Entire costuming community, off camera: "Honey? Can you just watch this video with me please? No reason..."
Also, Noelle's superpower: knowing literally everyone ever. Super connector!
Hi, Cathy.
For anyone in the UK who hasn’t found them yet: for ribbon VV Rouleaux is ribbon paradise, especially if you can visit their Marylebone shop and indulge in 2 floors packed to the gunnels. And for buttons vintage and new, The Button Queen, formerly also a shop in Marylebone but now online and in Wales. Both owners are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. I remember being taken to The Button Queen aged 10 - 50 years ago! An institution sadly missed in it’s London home but there’s plenty to choose from online
Thank you for recommending vv roulaeux, I will definitely be checking them out on my next visit to London!
Oh dear, I kept pausing and messing up the video as I was clicking on the "websites". Time for a nap and then a re-watch. Because this is a real wish list builder.
Same! 😆
I am being supper sad an using excel to make lists ad the tabs to sepperate different things out. Best put the website address in too, oh and where they are located....... yes i like lists.... queen of lists..lol
This video is going to be forthwith called “Why Jenifer is broke!”
😭😭😭😭 same
Oh, Noelle is hard on my wallet! She finds the best stuff to tell us about.
omg Those hats. I don't even have a historical dress (yet) but man, I want them all.
I initially read the title of this video as "Charming Buying Guide". Also an apt description.
awww Thanks!
i’m a beginner-level historical costumer but I can vouch for redthreaded! i just completed a victorian corset from their pattern + kit and it was wonderful! the pattern was super clear and easy to follow, and the kit had everything I needed (everything seemed like it was great quality) :)
Im trying to finish a crocheting project before the nights up but my cat decided he needed my arms for a cuddle so its on hold for a bit. This was lovely company to keep during my break. Thank you.
Must have been the evening for cats and crocheting. A snuggle does make for a lovely break, though.
Hello friend!!!
Yay!!! A buying guide!!!
Yay!!! Supporting costumers!!!
Thank you for this - nice to have links to trusted suppliers... looking forward to part 2!
In the UK, costuber Jalea Ward is an official reseller of American Duchess shoes from her Rags and Jags website; and Prior Attire has a small & ever changing range of both costumes & accessories.
An add to the hats list:Frontier Millinery, found on Etsy. She is amazing and you may see her in connection to Redthreaded as one of their staff. I had the pleasure of going to university with her.
I'm so excited about this. Norway is so lacking in many supplies for a lot of historical needs and just a bit better for fantasy costumes. I have some pretty decent google-foo but knowing tried and tested places to order from is an awesome gift to us, so thank you for all the work you put into this Noelle. You are a rockstar.
Oh I can't wait for part two! I love the ready made stuff but I'm definitely on a budget. Such a cool idea!
same!
The list of things I ‘must have’ had just grown a lot. Thank you!
Too lazy to take notes so I'll save this video and happily visit with Noelle whenever I want to shop and can't remember where. 😏
Thank you for sharing
It does feel like visiting with a friend when watching one of her videos, doesn't it 😊
@@canucknancy4257 definitely...actually I think Noelle is nicer than any of my friends.
Hi Noelle!
Thank you for popping in. :)
Sigh, no wonder I am broke. All the lovely things. Also the postal service in South Africa is terrible, that was the situation pre covid. I once waited a year for 2 t-shirts to arrive from the states. Well 11 months I think it was. So things have only got worse now.
Thank you for sharing!
Truly Hats have 16-17th century hats. I got my secondhand from a friend but it is a lovely quality. They also carry ouches which are the jewel clusters you see in tudor gowns as well as other jewelry.
I've had great experiences with Liz Emerson Designs. She has a lot more ribbon and embroidery supplies than she lists on her shops so it doesn't hurt to message her to see if she has what you are looking for. She's also working with someone to make gimp and soutache from antique silk so that may be available soon.
I love Truly Hats 💗
I just bought the embroidery pattern for the 2020 dumpster fire pocket from Sewstine and am super-excited to start it.
I just bought that pattern last night
Just popping in to tell you something.
I know you would like to visit New Zealand.
I have just found out that one of our cities. Oamaru (east coast, South Island), has a Victorian section. And they have an annual fete. In November.
It is the type of thing you would love. Maybe a group of you costubers could come on over. Bring your costumes and join in the fun.
Napier has a similar thing but theirs is Art Deco. So wrong era for you guys.
OH boy. This video looks VERY dangerous... 🤣 SO many pretty, pretty things.
Noelle, this was interesting and very comprehensive. Thank you for sharing this with us. There are definitely some shops I will be looking into and patronizing. Since, I love all things vintage and antique, I am sure I will find something I like. The hats were to die for. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. So, incredibly beautiful! I am looking forward to Part 2 and perhaps a Part 3, lol. I have been extremely business so I have some binge watching of your videos and others to do. Take care, dear and continue to stay safe and healthy!
Hello Noelle. All the pretty pretty things. This is a great idea putting many of your favourite places to shop together. Love the fact that they are all small businesses. Thanks so much for taking the time to gather this info, it will be an amazing resource for lots of your viewers. Can't wait to check out the next one. Take care.
This probably falls more under part 2 but my go to place for hat making supplies and notions is petershams they're on etsy but they also have they're own website. They have an amazing range of caplines and sinamay if you're making hats from scratch, but they also sell premade hat/facsinators bases to decorate how ever you please.. They also have anything you could ever want to decorate a hat: feathers, flowers, beads, vintage beads, ribbons etc.
I was drooling over this list and was told that I should make a list for Christmas which they tell me is coming!! Thanks for this amazing list I will rewatch while making my list. It’s like when I was a kid going through the Sears catalog!!!
What an amazing video. So many wonderful resources. 👍🏼😀
Thank you! This is such a good resource! It can be hard to find small businesses that are making quality stuff like this amongst all the results for cheap Halloween costume pieces.
Thank you for this thoughtful video of small businesses to support. I'm looking forward to the next one. Bonus: your soothing voice over explaining everything!
I'm overwhelmed with autoimmune health issues and struggling to not let it incapacitate me. Engaging with the costuming and crafting community on RUclips has been an endless supply of comforting entertainment. I'm feeling forever blessed that there are so many wonderful people who share themselves through social media eventhough it has it's challenges. I admire those who are strong enough to rise above the negativity and continue to share their talents. The world is so dark and scary. I wish the were more bright and safe spaces for people to gather virtually and in person. Sending positive vibes and well wishes to everyone xo
You made my day having a video today.... my darling little ones were driving me nuts, and this was the mini break I needed
I have never heard of most of these folks, so mahalo nui for turning us on to them!!!! SHOPPING!!!!!
Most of these I knew, some I didn't so thank you for giving me more small businesses I will happily throw my money at. :)
I would also like to recommend 2 other places for reproduction shoes. First is Fugawee shoes they range from 1600’s to the Edwardian period and Garb The World. They sell good basics for SCA re-enactments but they have a line of shoes from Roman to Brogans.
For 18th century household goodies, Townsends.
I just finished up fitting and boning the mockup for my first pair of stays. Taking a break to make some Christmas ornaments (pin balls with beaded tassels) and gift bags out of fabric from my cabbage patch. Shout out to Burnley & Trowbridge for their recent mini sew-alongs to show me how.
I think I will reference this video and the upcoming one a lot! Thank you very much!
Thank you Noelle for taking the time to do that info, Jsson from England 🤓
You are so thoughtful, doing this.
I hope it helps these sellers.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!!!
Well my wallet was not ready for this list 🤣
This was full of really love things, but I'm all about the fabric (and trims, I too have favorite ones on etsy, but they aren't historical). I am looking forward to part 2.
What a great list! I love that you support other costumers. Thank you for sharing this with us and I can’t wait for part 2!
Goood LORDT that shot periwinkle-sunflower pilgrim-lookin hat at 11:45
That is my freakin JAM, its SO pretty!
(Also feeling some crafters' shame in not being nearly good enough as a jewelry maker to warrant being even submitted or considered for the list LOL- im sure having an actual website would help. Soon (tm))
Hi, Nicole: It has been a while, glad to see everything is going great.
This is the most fun video and I don’t even see costumes!! 😁☺️
Thanks for this awesome video! I will definitely use it as a resource. And I second Jess' awesomeness at Penny River!
Thank you for sharing. I am shopping for wool things. Gonna sew a Newt coat for my teen!
This was excellent, Miss Noelle! Thank you… I now forsee my future going down many many rabbit holes! Like going to the candy store! Thank you! Looking forward to part two!
Thanks so much Nicole
I don't have a fabric district so this kind of thing is very much appreciated.
What a treasure box! Thank you!
For people in the UK, looking for bias tape/binding, I've found that frumblefabrics.co.uk is excellent (mostly for general sewing rather than costuming, but also a fun site).
Thank you! I am so excited about the ribbon!
Great video! I got a couple of new places to check out from your list. I also wanted to add Custom Wig Company who I have been buying wigs from for 7 years. One of their makers is JediAmanda who does lots of cosplay wigs and there's also FabricnFiction who is another of their makers/costumers that specializes in historical wigs and making some of them with historical methods. They're wonderful to work it.
Thank you for the list and info on these small stores.
Thank you so much for this! I was looking for a lot of these accessories, so this helps a lot. Also, I love penny river stockings!
Thanks Noelle what a great idea putting these in one or two videos. Nice quick resource much easier than trying to remember which video you something on. Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving.
I love this! There are so many neat shops I was un aware of! Thank you, Noelle.
I don't have any suggestions, but I have some information from something you said in a previous vlog. I've been catching up on your vlogs and you mentioned something in one when you while working on Lady Watson. You mentioned a type of jacket I didn't remember hearing about when taking my costume history class (even though it was mentioned in the text for the class - Survey of Historic Costume (2010)). You were insure of how to pronounce the Caracao jacket. So I had to look it up. I found the FIT Fashion History site and they had the correct spelling as well as a pronunciation key: it's caraçao (kara-sow). Just thought you might like to know.
Thanks for this list!
thanks for this great resource noelle!!!
This is such a helpful guide and I plan to use this video in my future buying needs!
Thank you for sharing the resources!
So many beautiful things. Thanks for putting this together and I am really looking forward to the next one.
Love the video and will definately check out a few of the stores. Thank you for making this list available. I'm looking forward to part 2.
OMG I'm in heaven. Thank you so much!!! Saves a lot of research time and makes shopping so much easier! Many, many thanks!
Thanks, this was great - several merchants that I did not know about.
This was very enjoyable.
**casually plays this video as Mr. Vintage Guidebook walks in the room**
Thank you so much.
Thank you!
I wanna add Hamburger Galanteriewaren in the jewlery department.
They are from Hamburg, Germany & make jewlery. :)
They are a pretty new company, came out in pandemic times, if I'm correct.
I would love to hear how a wild community of international costumers flodded their store! :D
my favorite alternative milliner is Evercrumbly and Witch - they do handcrafted witch hats of all descriptions- from elegantly feathered to excessively botanical to jeweled, but are also branching out into other styles of hat - fedora, pillbox, porkpie, deco, etc. etc. etc. They're pretty light on stock at the moment because Halloween, but they still have some gorgeous things in their etsy shop. And they are SUPER kind people (and willing to do special orders - so contact them!).

I have nonchalantly sent this video to my SO saying "see im not that bad" but meaning for him to get to the bit of the video where Noel says "these are really great gifts to give"...........
I NEED a pair of button up Victorian boots! I've wanted some for over 20 years but they never seem to make it into the budget, lol.
I managed to get a pair second hand through Facebook marketplace. The lady had bought them to wear for her wedding. Try looking second hand
I realised that the boots I've been drooling ever 5eva at AD were going to sell out so asked for everyone who was going to get me a Christmas gift to contribute to a money pool instead so I could get them!
@@suzanneirving7257 thanks, I may do that!
@@bookworm266 that's great! I hope you get them and love them. I'm terrible at saving for stuff that aren't really a necessity lol, maybe friends and family can help me with that.
@@nataliestanchevski4628 they are ordered and will arrive in February with my girlfriend's pre-orders!
For anyone in the Netherlands (or Belgian or Germany) I recommend checking out la-rose-passementarie.com/. They sell mostly hat & corset making materials, fabrics and patterns, but they also sell American Duchess and Allures D'Antan items, like shoes and stockings.

I absolutely love the jewellery, but I have a major challenge in that my skin reacts very badly if any metal other than gold touches it! Even gold-plated makes me break out in (sometimes quite bad) allergic reaction. Do any costume jewellers work in gold but historic designs?
You know, I’m not totally sure! You’d probably need to ask them if their stuff is full gold or plated….
✌️❤️😊
Random question, my great grandma had ALOT of costumes peices and picked out peices for each of her grand and great grandkids when were were born, I have this BEAUTIFUL costume necklace thats at least twice my age if not 3 times. But its very broken, I would love to have it either fixed or replicated. Would anyone know where I could go about this goal?
How is it broken? Often a pair of pliers can go a long way in my experience.
If I’m looking for a pressing ham/tailors ham where would I go to find that?
Most fabric stores carry them.
I found mine in a thrift shop!! I was so excited and it was 3 bucks
I found a pattern online. Using a flannel plaid, muslin and guinea pig litter as stuffing, I made my own, with a sausage, for sleeves.
For people in Canada (west coast mostly), I need to plug my friend Janice, @cauldronbroomhatshoppe on Instagram. She makes the most awesome witch hats, and her other lines (@my_tell_tale_heart) include beautiful historical costuming as well.
Hi, I want to invest in the American Duchess shoes but my feet aren't corresponding with the normal sizes due to years and years in dance... Does anyone have any tips how to choose the right size? Thank you!
Have you tried their website? They do have a very extensive page covering that and a youtube video embedded in that page as well....
@@Costuming_Drama oh, I didn't see that, but now I'll look for it. Thank you!
Oh dear, my Paypal card is smoking!
Lmao, I just tried to start scrolling your video to see more items. 🙄
