I must've looked at a thousand trucker videos over the past 3 months about what company to go through to get my CDL along with the experience. I was so indecisive but i must say that within the first 8 minutes of your video..i knew what to do. The 'ramen noodle' analogy was pure genius and choosing a terminal closest to where I live helped make my decision that much more easier. Some master their tools, and others don't. I eventually moved on and driving for a smaller company. I feel what people need to do is focus on the Greater purpose. I love this video, after 6 months to a year of researching companies I just realized that the average trucker is a complainer. Mostly because a lot of new bloods get into the industry because they're lazy and they think it's going to be an easy job just driving from point A to point b. Still though, I'm having trouble finding a company because of all the negative reviews from truckers on the companies I look at. At this point I'll probably just jump on a random company or Werner because they caught my eye when I was in school

Once I have another few weeks experience and get my hazmat (in process) I’ll be going out 2-3 overnights per week. $.52 per mile to start, a raise per mile after getting hazmat. Fully paid health care, per dime for overnight trips, demurrge pay. Only downside is old equipment, but they are big enough to have a fully staffed shop.

I’m currently training with Werner but about to start with Swift on Monday for a better opportunity and to JUST GET MY FEET WET and some skin in the game. Not to get rich. Not to get favored by the company. Not to get every single thing I want lol Soooooo many people have sooooo many opinions about company choices, but at this point in my life whatever sits right with my spirit, that’s the way I’m moving. If it’s a Blessing, thank God 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 If it’s a lesson, thank God 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 Either way, it’s a win win for me.
Some may wonder why I’m switching: I’m switching because Werner gave the impression during school that we were able to choose the type of account that we wanted. So I went through a whole choosing process, got my CDL, and got touch freight (Dollar General) opposed to no touch like I requested. Swift has a great opportunity that feels right so I’m gonna see what comes of that opportunity. I’m optimistic by nature, so whatever is for me is already mine. I literally have no worries. I hope this helps someone.
Again, thank you Gene for this video 💯💯💯

I would like to say out of all of the videos that I have seen on RUclips about trucking companies your video is the most sufficient and it is dead on correct. When I first got my CDL I was panicking on what company that I wanted to go to being a school bus driver for over 20 years I was so stuck doing the same routine everyday that when I did go to these companies they told me one thing yet when I get there they completely changed what they told me. Of course I was new and I went with what I felt they were going to allow me to do until they changed and told me what it was that I was going to do. I got very stressed out and did not like the company for lying but now I am about to own my own truck and I have my own authority so I'm running the show now.

I hate some of their equipment and I hate their disorganization but other than that they never micro manage unless you give them a reason🤷🏽‍♀️I’ve seen guys take down fences with the trailer and as long as you report it they will give you a slap on the wrist and you’ll be back trucking with possibly nothing getting on your record. Perfect starter company in my opinion I’ve been with them 8 months and plan on using them to get a little OTR experience before I branch off.

Well said!! I'm in the process now of getting my cdl on my own thru a private school. Reviewing all the companies that your talking about for inexperienced driver hires. I've come to the conclusion of going to Schneider tanker division. Thanks for the tips!! Much appreciated!!

I knew coming in I was going to get shit routes, shit pay, little time off, and I was going to have to say yes to pretty much anything they threw my way for the first 18 months. Stand up for yourself and don't do anything illegal obviously, but otherwise you just have to grit your teeth and put in the time; the company doesn't matter. After 18 months you can start being picky and maybe even start looking into becoming an owner operator

Schneider only takes on about 15% to 25% new drivers. I have been with them for 14 years now and I have 25.5 years experience. I started in January of 1997 spent my 1st year with them and moved on form them just to come back 14 years ago and yes I was in the Army for 8years and you are wright they are about 80% Military and runs like that as well.

I was thinking of going Old Dominion or Swift. They both have terminals less than 5 miles from my house. This video made me rethinking swift as before I wantched I had truckers I know saying dont go near them.

I’ve heard that old dominion is a great company. It’s not as easy to get hired there compared to swift but if they have availability I would recommend them. Swift gets a bad rep but I’ve met drivers who work for swift and have nothing but good things to say. It’s all about perspective. Best of luck!

@@_GR2 Yeah Old Dominion I need prior experience. I found out that Yellow was about 10 miles away, but they got things going down with the teamsters. Called Swift Recruitment and have been waiting a few days for a callback, so fingers crossed they have something available in my area.

Just came across this video and I’ve been driving now for 2 months and I feel you bro I feel like people bash all these companies but forget that everyone has to start somewhere just because one driver makes a mistake on the road doesnt make it a horrible company every job has good and bad
