First things first, get an action replay so you can eliminate the region lock & integrate the 4mb ram and memory unit in one cart. I personally have a few US consoles as well as a JP console with the OEM ram cart since it's so much easier to collect for. I picked up about 15 games this summer for much less than the price of one heavyweight US title. Secondly, there are so many great fighters here. I recc. the Vampire Hunter & Vampire Saviour games, Street Fighter Zero 1/2/3, Capcom vs titles (Marvel, X-Men, etc), tons of great SNK titles like KoF, Samurai Shodown, etc. For 3d fighters I say Dead or Alive and I think it's called Fighting Vipers? It's Virtua Fighter and another franchise collaboration. Otherwise there's other titles like Rockman X4, Biohazard, etc. that are way cheaper as JP and fully in English. For example, my US copy of MegaMan X4 last I checked was over $500, Rockman X4 was maybe $20? I only have Panzer Dragoon 2 in English but I got all 3 PD titles in Japanese for about $60. Never gonna be able to play Saga/rpg but the US version is like $1200 so...
The action replay cart (while convenient) is not a good long term solution for the saturn. It will damage the expansion slot and it made my system finicky when inserting the carts. I ended up replacing the console and for Japanese saturn games, i bought a complete in box Japanese saturn for less than the price of a couple of saturn games.
@@wilfrido16 I brought up the Action Replay as an affordable option. My brother's been using one on his US Saturn for years without cart slot issues so I dunno what to tell you, mileage may vary when using an AR I guess. I personally also bought an ntsc-j Saturn CIB & I think 15 games for that purpose, and I also have three ntsc-u Saturns, one CIB, and about a half dozen games. I've given up on the US titles as they're far too expensive these days. Thankfully all of my collection came from local second hand sales for dirt cheap years ago. But in the end, I think using an AR or equivalent is a great option for someone that doesn't want to spend the extra money on yet another console.
The action replay cart is a good value for everything it does and had allot of cool functions. Maybe there not all built the same, but unfortunately for me i left mines in my console for an extended amount of time. One day i wanted to insert my official backup ram cart and the saturn wouldn’t recognize it. I had to resort to loosening the connectors screws inside the slot and that fixed the issue temporarily. I don’t think its necessarily just the action replays fault but most 3rd party accessories are thicker and some don’t have beveled connectors and that widened the connector.
I remember the Saturn. Didn't have too many games for it, but I loved Virtua Fighter 2, Panzer Dragoon Zwei, Sega Rally Championship, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Night Warriors, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Nights Into Dreams.
Sega Saturn Mark 1 - oval shaped power & reset buttons with red power & green access LED's & has a nice finish. Sega Saturn Mark 2 - rounded shaped power & reset buttons with no red power & green access LED's & has a more of a mat finish. I have X2 Mark 1's which I myself resurrected, I bought them non working for about a tenner a piece with no joypads or leads. I bought a non working Mark 2 & it looked pretty wrecked & I think the power button was missing, but it came with a joypad & the RF lead, I also paid around a tenner for it. My nostalgia hit the ceiling when I heard the boot up sound & hearing the SFX when navigating the CD music functions. What I call a starfield screen saver with the space craft blasting away from the camera also made me feel like a kid again! Your other half - why have you taken all the game manuals out of their cases!😅 I hope you remembered to put them back!😊
Good to see you getting into something new in the shape of the Saturn. There's a lot of great games on the console. I recently added a Fenrir ODE to one of mine so I can load games from SD card. Some of the games are ridiculously expensive now so it had to be done. You can use pseudo Saturn Kai cart for playing imports and backed up discs though, which I think you may already be aware of. Anyway, enjoy getting into the Saturn.
It's definitely worth doing it for the Saturn, some of the most expensive games I've seen have been on the system. I think Ant has one of those somewhere too, but I could be wrong 🤔
Always enjoyable to see people getting into the saturn. So glad you enjoyed sega rally, Nights, and virtua fighter 2. Those are cool games. Hope you keep playing.
Just got one too! although i went with a Japanese console to collect the japanese games since they are a fraction of the price and you dont need to know much japanese unless you wana play RPGS but even then there are translation guides. Such a great system!
Christmas Nights into dreams is definitely worth getting. Its only a demo but contains lots of unlockable content and by setting the Saturn clock for around or at Christmas changes music and the visual look of the background. Quite fun and unique. Nice Saturn collection. 😊👍
Panzer Dragoon Saga is probably my most favourite game of all time. Since you have a partner who enjoys playing games I would recommend a couple of really excellent co-op games; Guardian Heroes for its brillaint brawling action and Story of Thor 2 (there is a cheat where you can play two player and its alot of fun). They are a bit pricey now but sega saturn collecting is these days. Looking forward to the next video.
If you've got an action replay device it breaks the region lock and you can play Japanese and PAL region games. Japenese versions are typically cheaper. Some saturn games get pretty pricey.
Nice to see the Saturn getting some attention, it kind of get ignored a little compared to almost all of saga's other consoles. I also liked your chilled presentation style.
Just come across this video, which I enjoyed! Have both the model 1 grey saturn and model 2 white saturn. It's probably my fav import console. So many great shooters and fighting games, which most are Japanese exclusive. Subbed. 👍
You have great taste in games! The Saturn had an amazing library, especially the Japanese side. But I think the PAL side does have a lot of the quintessential releases for the console like for example: Parodius, Deep Fear, Darius II and many more.
I got mine chipped with the Phantom chip and my system is region-free; otherwise I could never afford to play my favorite games the Saturn. If you can get a chance to play them, I strongly recommend the follow games: Magic Knight Rayearth Keio Flying Squadron 2 Dragon Force Lunacy Super Tempo Pandemonium Powerslave Rayman Fighters Megamix Astal Albert Odyssey The Legend of Oasis Dark Savior Shinrei Jusatsushi Taromaru Regardless of their rarity or even whether or not they're Saturn exclusives. Every game on that list is great.
Saturn was an amazing system that I came to 20 years after its launch. Some stellar exclusives and a JPN library to die for. PAL cardboard cases are awful though. Later PAL plastic cases (like PD Saga) are better.
Yup... Like i said in my post , who in their right mind at Sega thought this was a good idea ... Specially since the Mega Drive Games were already in hard cases
Saturn is my fave I had a ps1 in the 90s as a kid and even though I always knew I had the superior console, I always wanted a saturn for some of the games, but cuz I was young and broke I couldn't buy one but now I'm old and broke I brought one anyway 😂
Saturn was great until I had memory card issues. The memory card stopped working and went blank, wiping out all progress on all games. At that time, cause it was such an issue, no game store would accept Saturn stuff.
one of a few consoles i sold last year and stopped collecting for , the Risk of disc rot with saturn & sega cd games is just to great and to much of a risk right now , specially with the prices most of these games are going for , once you have 2 discs of panzer dragoon saga go bad ... makes you think twice 😅 Also never understood who thought it was ok to release PAL games in those horrible boxes back in the day , wish we had those NTSC Jewel case designs instead with a normal front cover inlay instead of cardboard glewed to plastic
Great to see some Saturn love. As much as I love the original Panzer Dragoon, Zwei is a much better game, it had a much better frame rate and the difficulty is more fair. It also takes place before the original so no problem playing it first. Also as others have said, you should get a model 2 controller, the triggers and the Dpad on the model 1 controller are terrible compared to the model 2.
Half of Sleepy's games here are gloriously predictable 😆 To be fair, I've got plenty of football and racing games myself, but the only golf games I've ever played are some in the arcade, one my cousin owned for the Atari Lynx plus, er... Toadstool Tour. Virtua Fighter 2 has just been added to the NSO Expansion Pass thing. Used to enjoy the original trilogy of that franchise in arcades. NiGhts is definitely worth playing at Christmas time!
