    I'm commenting to make you be aware of of the outstanding discovery my wife's princess enjoyed watching through your video. She came to understand many details, most notably what it's like to possess a wonderful helping spirit to make the others with ease fully grasp a variety of tricky subject areas. You undoubtedly exceeded our expected results. Many thanks for offering those great, healthy, edifying not to mention fun thoughts on that topic to my wife.

But yes, as you noticed, the unit is expensive, rugged and required advanced knowledge of how to use it. The large auger and cables can cause injury if not handled correctly. • @VintageVideos2009
      @VintageVideos2009  8 лет назад +1

      +beastumfan Hi beastumfan, that's a good question? Unfortunately it is not feasible to get the lye all the way out to the sewer line, in full strength before it washes out, where the roots are forming, in a high concentration. This is also a common issue with using drain cleaning chemicals. Thanks again for the great question! We invite you to like, share and subscribe to our channel.

    Hi there, Greeting from Malaysia. You did a wonderful job ! We as a plumber wanted to know the material that you using to settle the clogged drain problem. Most ours is sewerage clogged, toilet clogged in which some issues we can't settle it. Mind sharing. TQ

    • @VintageVideos2009
      @VintageVideos2009  9 лет назад +2

      Hi MV General Services,
      Thanks for your questions. As a licensed, professional plumbing service, we have removed a lot of different materials from sewer drain lines. Sometimes it is tree roots, broken pipe lines or natural disruptions. Other times, man-made materials like children's toys, clothing, plastic kitchen utensils and such can fall into the drain line and require a high-strength commercial auger to grind the items and re-open the clogged sewer line and avoid the huge cost of demolition or excavation to remove a section of pipe. Please like and subscribe to our channel for future plumbing videos.

    Can you run the cable through the floor drain itself? I’m having an issue at a Belk store, whenever I flush do a constant flush on any of the toilets the drains all back up and I ran my cable machine through the clean out but it’s getting blocked right in front of one of the floor drains so I’m thinking of running cable through that floor drain

    • @VintageVideos2009
      @VintageVideos2009  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, you can run the cable through the floor drain. However, the reason for running it through the clean-out, is that you will service the entire drain line vs the area after the effected floor drain. Plus, when we run the camera and record on video, we want a complete illustration of the drain system, from the clean out - all the way out and into the lateral and until it reaches the main sewer line out on the street. Thanks for watching our video and sharing your question. We hope you are able to remedy your floor drain situation and restore your service.

    Great video and explanation of everything. Thanks!!! I just had my main line unclogged but was a bit disappointed with the service since I watched your video prior. The plumber had indicated I had some root build up in my 6in pipe but they weren't able to fully clean it because they would need to use their "Hydro Machine" which wasn't available at the time of the service. Apparently, they never heard of the expanding cutter head you elaborated on or they're setting me up for a return visit. Their cost was very good for the service but I would have happily paid more if they would have run their auger with the expanding cutter and left me with a feeling that the job was done completely. How much is the cost of one of those expanding cutter attachments?

    • @VintageVideos2009
      @VintageVideos2009  8 лет назад +1

      +rednroll1 Thanks for your comments. Prices start at about $250 to repair a clogged sewer line and go up from there, depending on the extent of the root invasion. The cutter attachment for the RIGID auger unit is ideally suited for these specific components, so you would really want to have both the expanding cutter head and a super heavy duty auger to handle the job. The video inspection costs about $200, including the DVD recording. Again, we hope this video helped and that your situation will be resolved economically and prevent any further issues. We hope you subscribe to our RUclips channel and you can also follow our Facebook page at Castleman & Sons Plumbing.

      +Teila Sherwin Hi Teila, thank you for sharing your comments. We agree that having using professional equipment with a large auger head, along with a video inspection is essential to determining the extent of tree roots in troublesome sewer lines. Unfortunately, your location is beyond the service territory of Castleman & Sons Plumbing, here in Franklin, Wisconsin, but we would urge you to seek a licensed professional plumbing service that is willing to go the extra mile and complete your job. Perhaps you can Google licensed plumbers to see if someone can get your system back in order. Thanks again for watching and sharing your comments. We wish you success on regaining water service for your home.

      Hi Garrick, we totally understand your urgency when the sewer line becomes clogged. Unfortunately, we do not have a direct recommendation in Houston, TX, but we would urge you to find a licensed plumber that may be able to perform similar work. And we hope you can also find a plumber that will stand behind their workmanship. Main line sewer problems are usually too large of a job for most DIY homeowners and usually require profession, heavy-duty plumbing equipment to complete the job. Thanks for watching our video and sharing your comments. Best of luck on a speedy resolution to your home.

    **If part of the plug cap fell down the clean out drain, can it block drain or cause a problem??

    • @VintageVideos2009
      @VintageVideos2009  11 месяцев назад

      Hi Judy Brooks, thanks for watching and sharing your question. Unfortunately, yes, a broken plug or obstruction like that could impact the flow of in the pipes at some location. Today, it might not be an issue, and if the obstruction is not too big, it could potentially break down and get washed out of the system without an incident of any kind for you, for years. If you want "peace of mind," having a video inspection of your system that costs a few hundred dollars should remove any doubt. The video inspection will also reveal if there is any other possible issues, such as root infiltration, or any broken pipes. Again, these issues might not cause a sewer back up today, but they may become a problem months or years in the future. If you watch the video inspection we have, you'll see that the sewer pipe if reasonably wide, and obstructions need to be fairly large in order to create a clog and resulting back-up into the home. If you've never had a video inspection of your sewer line and lateral - it might be a good time to do so. Thanks for the great question. Wishing you all the best with your home water system.

    This is exactly what has happened to me! It’s been more then two weeks since the septic system backed up in my basement and just yesterday the property maintenance crew came to dig outside, but my basement is still flooded and I’m left to clean and cut down on the smell. What can I do myself to unclog my basement pipe?

    • @VintageVideos2009
      @VintageVideos2009  3 года назад

      Hi Yonna, thanks for watching and sharing your experience. I'm hoping the property manager's crew has found perhaps a broken sewer lateral pipe, outside of the home foundation, and that they are working to clear it, repair it, and get everything back into working shape. Even though your basement is backed up, the problem might be due to a clog or break in the pipeline outside the home. Unfortunately, this type of problem is generally beyond the scope of most homeowners or renters to do themselves. For example, an economy "snake" or auger system will probably not clear the problem. You may want to try using some air fresheners to minimize the smell until the service work is completed and the sewer line blockage is removed. Best of luck on a speedy repair!

    i live in Arizona in a comunity built in the 60"s. Residents are having water line problems and back ups. It appears it is a big deal ($$$$) to take care of this. What is your best suggestion? Would pipe relining work, or other cheaper method? This is a senior community and many cannot afford major repairs!
    We see them breaking the floors, the front lines under the porch etc., etc. Please help us with your ideas!
    Thank you!

      Hi Eve Shrie, thanks for watching and sharing your question. Unlike this video, where we were successfully able to clear the home and sewer line without any significant reconstruction - the situation you discuss could be far more expensive and labor intensive. It's particularly difficult to suggest some broad method, when some homeowners may have different issues affecting their sewer lines/lateral lines/etc. If there is a community-wide issue, perhaps your municipality or even the state government can investigate an offer some form of financial assistance? Wishing you all the best in resolving your situation.

      Hi dalsmoua, thanks for the question. Unfortunately, we do not have a personal connection with any plumbers/companies in the Twin Cities, but we would urge you to review plumbers that are part of the Plumbers Union, and are licensed master plumbers. We also list our company on Angie's list, so that is another source you may want to review when making a selection. Word of mouth, personal referrals, Better Business Bureau reports - these are all great sources to review as well. Best of luck on your repair and thanks for watching and sharing your question with us.

      Hi Don, thanks for the question. The video inspection usually accompanies a clogged sewer drain line, so the pricing varies somewhat, based on the complexity of the clogged drain line or extent into the sewer pipe. Prices start at about $250 to repair a clogged sewer line and go up from there. The video inspection alone runs about $200, including the DVD recording. Because the video inspection pinpoints exactly where the trouble spot is, if excavation is needed for a broken pipe, you will save hundreds of dollars by minimizing excavation time. Great question! Hi hardlines4, thanks for watching and sharing your comments. We're glad to hear you were able to resolve your plumbing problem, easily, quickly and affordably. For many customers, using a plunger and liquid plumber can suffice. If you have more significant issues, as in this example where the clog was underneath the basement slab and the blockage was far more severe, other professional methods will be needed. You were wise in giving it a try on your own and resolving the problem.

    Can I use this method on a main that has a liner?

    • @VintageVideos2009
      @VintageVideos2009  3 года назад

      Hi Bob, the professional equipment used for removing tree roots in this video features a metal, expanding cutting head. If you notice the shape of this cutter, it's designed to sever and remove minor tree roots and debris in the line and can be operated inside of PVC pipe with care and supervision by the plumber. However, to avoid any warranty issues with the company that installed your pipe liner, you need to check the warranty and specifications details, due to a variety of methods and components used for the liners. Your situation calls for an onsite inspection to see where and what has failed in your liner, and then determining the best way to address the problem. Best of luck on the repair and thanks for watching and sharing your question.

      Hi Shaker 74, sorry you are having repeat issues. We have heard similar complaints, from customers that hire companies that fail to perform the extra levels of service, to better ensure that your sewer line system remains clear. There can be a lot of reasons why you have continuing issues, including tree root invasion, or perhaps a broken pipe or lateral line. It is very helpful to find a company that offers a video camera inspection, to see what the culprit really is. Best of luck on your home repair and thanks for watching and sharing your comments with us.

    • @VintageVideos2009
      @VintageVideos2009  5 лет назад

      @@shaker7440 Thanks for watching and sharing your comments. Have you determined whether the blockage is under your basement slab, or whether it is outside the foundation? If the blockage is located under the basement slab, clearing roots and replacing beyond the home's foundation, will not resolve the issue. If the blockage is indeed outside of the home, and root system has been removed, and all of the lateral pipe has been correctly placed, the issue may be in your main sewer line. The main sewer line is often maintained by your municipality, so they would need to be contacted to resolve a mainline problem. A video camera, like the one used by Castleman & Sons Plumbing, is essential for visually inspecting the entire drain line system. Hope this helps and best of luck with your blockage.

Since my concern was that the blade will clog the pipe again. Is this normal? Thanks!

    • @VintageVideos2009
      @VintageVideos2009  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Bri Emery, thanks for sharing your comments. It's highly unusual for an expanding cutting head, like the one we used on this video, to break, but it could happen. If the cutting head or blade is small, than it is likely that it will not cause a problem in your main sewer line, especially if you have 4" or 6" pipes. Because we were not onsite, we can't be sure exactly what your plumber used. I would advise that you keep track of the day/date of service, the plumbers name and other information, just in the unlikely event that you have a problem in the future. At Castleman & Sons Plumbing, we have a camera head that an travel into the pipe and record an obstacles, debris or tree roots that might be in the line. Having the video recording provides a great deal of peace of mind, for an instance like this. We hope you have no more problems with your sewer back up issue.

    For This Ain't Trap, Yes, it sounds like you have figured it out for yourself. The clog may be likely beyond all your smaller drain pipes and into the larger diameter sewer lines. A camera of course would be very helpful in a situation like that, to know for sure where the clog is and what material is creating the clog. Thanks for watching the video and good luck on regaining your water service.

      @VintageVideos2009  6 лет назад

      Hi Mike, sorry to hear about the difficulties. Having a plumber that utilizes a video camera to assess the sewer line may help prevent your situation. Sometimes it's a broken lateral or failure due to soil settlement. So even though a plumber may clear a line of soil or roots, if the pipeline itself is broken or defective, it will not take long before the problem re-occurs. We hope you can get your flooding issue resolved and returned to normal service. Thanks for watching and sharing your comments.

      Hi gummy bear, thanks for watching and sharing your question. There are multiple aspects of job like this, including removal of the obstruction, and also the video recording portion. The obstruction removal is based on how long it may take to remove the obstruction. Sometimes it can be done in less than a couple hours, whereas other issues may occur, such as a broken pipe or need for an excavation, if a lateral is both obstructed and broken and needs replacement. So you can see, offering a generic price is a bit challenging. On cost for this job, was several hundred dollars, including clearing the obstruction and providing the homeowver with the video service and video recording. The homeowner has not experienced any issues since this work was completed. We appreciate you watching and sharing your question with us.

      Hi Rex II, thanks for watching and sharing your comments. Regarding the odors in your home, you should try and determine if the smell is coming from pipes in your sinks, your shower or your toilet? Because you are the only one in the home, some of these fixtures may rarely be used. For example, a spare bathroom might not get flushed, or the sink used. Sometimes odors would not be noticed when the plumbing is constantly working, but when rooms or fixtures are dormant, odors can become more apparent. If there are no plumbing clogs or restrictions, you may be able to greatly reduce the odors with some simple cleaning methods, such as vinegar and baking soda. Hope that helps.

      Hi Benzino 454, thanks for watching and sharing your question. Given that you feel your entire system is clogged, there may be something more happening here, beyond cutting/removal of some object or debris. It could be possible that your segments of your pipe are broken - which may require demolition of your basement floor or - if a break has occurred outside your foundation - excavation may be needed to replace a broken section of sewer lateral. Giving a price for a situation like this is very challenging. Removing an object and also providing a video copy ranges from $600 and up, but there are a lot of variables in a situation like this. Best of luck with clearing the clog and getting your home plumbing back into service.

      @@seanx2241 Thanks for watching and sharing your comment. Yes, there are a lot of plumbing services that will charge $250 - for a quick clean out of a residential clog. Unfortunately, many clients who have chosen this cheaper method, often have a new clog within 6 months from that service call. This is because the cheaper service does not use the RIGID, expandable cutting system to fully remove roots from the entire diameter of the pipe. And the cheaper version does not include a video camera placement and recording, to visually inspect the entire sewer line/lateral to ensure it is properly cleaned out. We recognize that prices vary significantly, and customers often "get what they pay for."

We do know a number of clients that chose to use a "discount" service for about $300, only to require that same company to return a couple months later and try to clear the problem a 2nd time. Of course, there may be the additional cost of taking a vacation day to be there, or any resulting damage to our property from a second sewer back-up in your basement. Piece of mind is one aspect that DVD provides, so the customer can see that the roots have been successfully cleared all the way out to the main line. Wishing you all the best with your dwelling.

    I'm a video guy. Video is visual. I watched it all. My previous comment was symbolic of bad video technique. For example you show the cutting head from far away., hard to see. Later you say here is the head but we see you. Here is the drain. We see you. Etc. Then we do see something, is it a pipe? a drain? it is draining but what is it? And what caused that draining? (visual continuity.) We hear about the wet floor and the drain but we see you, and eventually we do see a drain, and there are plenty of words and descriptions but too few visuals of the process. Similar for the other scenes. Please take this constructively. Your knowledge is great, your experience shows, but the video technique left me with unclear images of the process and a feeling of frustration

    • @VintageVideos2009
      @VintageVideos2009  7 лет назад

      OK, thanks for a legitimate explanation. So, for a videographer like you, it's important to see visuals, have voice overs, flow, continuity, pacing, some graphics, some music, etc in a more finished "how-to" piece. All fine and dandy. What if the intent of this video was to showcase the knowledge and professionalism of the master plumber? Would it seem to make more sense then, to have him on camera a bit more, describing the situation, so customers will trust him, and contact him to resolve their plumbing issues. I realize a general "how-to" video could certainly be done with more video of the project and less on-camera talent, but frankly, Justin Castleman's expertise helps tremendously in selling his services to thousands of area customers.
      Calling the video horrible, after it has helped tens of thousands of people to better understand the problems associated with a sewer drain clog, the equipment used, advanced drain-cleaning techniques, newer video recording technology (6 years ago) and also improving the brand image of the client seemed rather condescending instead of constructive.
      As a general consumer experiencing a sewer drain issue(rather than a video guy wanting lighting, voice overs, graphics, etc like yourself), after watching this video, would you agree that a sewer drain clog is likely more involved than most homeowners would be comfortable handling, and after watching this video, would you trust this plumber to resolve your sewer drain problem, and also, might you be interested in obtaining a video recording using his video inspection equipment?
      Humblehugh, thank you for your suggestions and we look forward to seeing your extraordinary work.

      I'm a professional audio guy, video really isn't my thing although we work in the same circles and I do some video editing work. Humblehugh reminds me of someone just getting started in the industry, trying to boost about how much they recently learned or they're one of those guys who do it as a hobby and always think they can do it better than the pros without ever having the experience to identify outside variables which makes shooting the video a less than ideal situation. Whichever the case, a pro knows to seek to understand before offering criticism, otherwise you just come off as a jerk, such is the case with Humblehugh's so called "constructive criticism". I thought it was a great video, that I learned a lot from because I know very little about plumbing and I'm greatly someone with your kind of experience is willing to share. I sure wasn't thinking about video angles or microphone placement for the audio while viewing it.

      Rednroll1, thanks for taking the time to comment on the video. During a live event with a single camera, it's often not feasible to cover everything. And in this instance, having the business owner and master plumber sharing his knowledge and explanations on camera was very valuable in building his brand and credibility, and is equally important in the purpose of this video. We just felt Humblehugh wasn't very "humble" and didn't take that into consideration when being critical of camera angles or scene elements. But we do thank you for sharing your professional insight and also your views as a potential customer of this plumbing business.

    horrible video. You show nothing but the head shot of the plumber. Not helpful.

      Wow, so...did you only watch the first 30 seconds? Didn't you see the cutting head, how it works, the auger unit, the clean-out, the video recording showing the sewer pipe line? We would encourage you to watch the entire video, listen to the explanations from the master plumber too, to understand how to effectively unclog a sewer drain line.
