A petrol car fire usually stays contained to itself and can be extinguished in minutes. An EV in thermal runaway destroys everything within 10 meters or more, like the Fremantle Highway (ship) and sinking the Felicity Ace (another ship) the Luton airport ramp and 1000 cars, the residential building in Korea creating 1500 homeless or the Houston Amazon van debacle at Rivian that claimed 50 or more vans and takes hours… if not days to extinguish those fires. Plus your petrol car won’t burn under water like an EV does!
@@markjoppru8015 If you can charge at home and you are okay with not getting the highest trim leasing an EV seems like a no brainer to me. In some places like Colorado you can stack the deals so well that the car pays for itself when taking into consideration the fuel costs. I think there is kind of an irony going on here in the all of the anti EV FUD is making EV’s in less demand and therefore cheaper. Who knows, maybe all of these people getting great lease deals will get hooked on EVs. I don’t think EVs are for everyone, but I’m not sure if people know how affordable they’ve gotten compared to a couple of years ago.

Insurance is comparable to gas cars, I've owned gassers for decades and own 3 EVS for almost 6 years. If they try to charge you double shop around, like anything
From what I've read, regular door handles are just as good for aerodynamics and work better. Those flat handles are just a terrible trend similar to tablets glued to dashes.
Big touch screens are really just a cost cutting measure by manufacturers who don't want to source many physical switches, easier to do many relays and a touchscreen. But they totally market it as a high end new tech because they can, and people seem to love to pay for it
@zpilot4523 I totally agree! I'm OK with some things being in a screen, but not things I use all the time or when driving. Those need to be physical controls.
It's nice to see a well thought out EV come to market. Anywhere above 200/250hp will keep most families quite happy. I'm not a GM fanboy, or owner, but I'm glad to see a North American automaker succeed.
200-250hp in an EV feels a lot stronger than 200-250 hp in an ICE. The instant response and lack of transmission gears makes the EV much quicker real world
GM has had a confusing journey into the EV world. First, they killed and crushed electric cars. Then they half-heartedly supported them, and finally, they were humiliated into joining the revolution. I was at a car show a few years ago, and they had an EV on display, probably the Bolt, and one of the GM representatives was doing his best to talk down the EV. Their antipathy towards EVs is slow to diminish.
Internal struggles. People fault them for EV1, but no one else was making EVS they're the ones that should be faulted, proof of concept if nothing else. Bolt was the best deal in EVS yet & 3rd selling EV of 2023 behind 3 & Y. Currently 3 EVs, not counting Hummer EV
So I know it seems small.. But the whole doing away with android auto /car play, is enough for me to not even consider buying it.. Just exactly how greedy can a manufacturer be?? Everything I want is on about all 2018- 2020 models.. I will b buying used from now on
The car comes with the Google apps for 3 years so people changing cars frequently like you have been doing will not have to pay a subscription. I’ve been using CarPlay since 2014, and I use Apple Music, both of which work well for me, so I’d have adapted to the car which would annoy me. I’d rather have the choice, but if I were to get a good lease deal I might be willing to do so. There is an advantage to the built in android system with an EV in that it can communicate with the car and when you are on a trip and need to find chargers, it will know your charge level. If it wasn’t an EV I’d definitely want to stick with CarPlay, but GM isn’t taking it out of their ICE cars.

30 years ago, I was working at a startup that was doing the wireless communication in the charging paddle for the fast charger. There was no connector on the EV1. It was like your iPhone and charged when the paddle was inserted into a slot. GM was so far ahead and spent a ton of money in the early 90s. Then they crushed everything, and we drove gas SUVs for the next 25 years, and forgot that we knew anything about EVs.
Every auto manufacturer has had a "rough electric journey," including Tesla, GM, Honda, etc.. GM is mostly a case of courage and visionary leadership, followed by fear and trepidation. GM could have owned Tesla's market. They were way ahead in every way, but they lost their nerve again and again because of 1) Politics -- the Republican Party was/is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the oil industry (or anyone else who will pay them -- ask Peter Thiel) and was on a campaign against vehicle electrification via their mouthpieces (Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, et al), 2) consequent investor trepidation, 3) consequence management trepidation. Also, I understand that they were losing money on every Volt sold. It is cheaper to make a car with one propulsion system -- either gas or electric, not both. When Tesla broke through the political and public resistance barrier to achieve mainstream success and Elon subsequently became the "richest man in the world," GM looked very cowardly and foolish -- having been there first with far-sighted vision as to what the future would require -- and battery technology would allow. But Wall Street likes giant corporations, and their leadership, to not easily take risks. Example: Why is IBM where it is now? It could have been Apple, Microsoft and more all rolled into one. They could have owned the world as we know it today. But, they are a shadow of their former stature. What happened to IBM could happen to GM. But, GM has great engineers, who make great products. I would argue that they saved the company from total failure. And leadership there is less cowardly than it was. They're trying. Which is why the Celestiq exists. Going forward, GM has an opportunity to become strong. Probably not to where they were at their peak, but very much in competitive play today. This is because now Tesla's automotive products are faltering, languishing unsold in fields and pastures and the Japanese companies, having been as conservative as GM, or even more so, and are behind GM in EV R and D. I own several GM EV products. They're pretty good. And yes, they should (must) keep CarPlay in their EVs.
Man, your intro reads like one of the TSLA fan blogs. As an owner of two 25-year-old factory built Ford EVs, two 10+ year old Chevy Volts, and an 8-year-old Chevy Bolt EV, I can tell you that *all* of those "issues" were blown way out of proportion. People like to forget that out of nearly 150,000 Bolt EVs that were recalled, there were only about 20 documented fires. Still far too many, but for reference, that's actually *less* than the average number of EV fires per 100,000 vehicles and 75 times less than the average number of ICE fires per 100,000 vehicles. Ridiculous.
I agree about the door handles. It’s one of the things I like better about the Blazer. The flush door handles look cool, but I prefer the function of regular door handles. My guess is that it’s more about looks than aerodynamics. Manufactures will put flush handles on a car and then give it large wheels that reduce the range.
These dumb a$$ designers of these pop out door handles have obvious never experienced a freezing rain event, where it is sometimes hard to pull out "normal" door handles.
@@alsheremeta I don’t have to worry about freezing rain much where I live, but ergonomics of the paddle seem inferior, the motor seems like another thing to break and they telegraph to everyone when the car is open. Not a deal breaker for me, but when I’m looking at an EV, having normal handles gets a check mark in the positive column. Just about every EV has some feature that I would personally consider asinine so I’ll have to live with something I don’t like to get the overall car I want.
@@rp9674 I don’t really appreciate them at all, I don’t hate them but I don’t see them as improving the look of the car. So if I had the choice I’d always go for the smaller wheels. If I look at smaller wheels and I see more range or a more comfortable ride, then that’s beauty to me.
I do not like chrome, but on this one it's looking good. Tired of the over used black out trim. Kindigit door handles are awful. HVAC control knobs over touch screen.
Curent Bolt and Equinox EV owner here. Let me tell you I use car play on all of my other cars but I DO NOT MISS IT in the equinox ev. The google interface is so good i use google maps in car play anyway and spotify for my music which you can download any music app you like from the play store. Music starts playing the second the car turns on its fantastic. The charging way point son google maps are added very intutively showing you your route and where they are with numbers so you can choose accordingly. This car is a slam dunk and im glad I leased it. I am going to buy one of these in 3 years off a lease hopefully for the low 20s its that good.
Love the review. Please remember that the battery fire was caused because of LG faulty batteries. I am waiting for the 2025 Equinox Lt for $35k and add a few things.

One problem Tommy, I detest a black roof lining and I will never buy a car with a black roof and I don’t want sunroofs or any holes in the top of the car. That’s my ten cents worth.
For some reason car companies in the past thought that EV's needed to look ridiculous. Now they are starting to look like regular cars. (thank goodness)
I don’t like when car companies don’t use unique names for the electric “version”, unless they are the same car. This looks nothing like the gas version and warrants a different name.
These cars are actually damn stunning looking! I’d totally consider one myself. Shame about the no Apple CarPlay though, that bums me out to a major level personally.
I’m a little taller than you, and think that these days, it’s not so much about the actual headroom, as much as “can I see under the all electronics around the rearview mirror”. Do you recall how that visibility was with the Equinox?
Nice to see more options out there. This particular one is too wide for us at almost 8 inches wider than my gen4 prius (both excluding mirrors). We've got some narrow parking around town and neighborhood roads where people like to park on both sides across from eachother. Otherwise it would be a strong contender to replace our 2017 Prius in a couple years.
I just traded my 2017 kia Sorento for a kia niro. Why? Because the word from kia was DO NOT PARK INDOORS DUE TO FIRE DANGER 🔥 it is a fact a gas car is 29 times more likely to catch on fire but that number is already going up past 300 times with new battery technology which h is advancing daily with sodium ion and aluminum ion just to name a few. Yes ICE has run its course and is past its usefulness
FYI - Sorrento is a gas vehicle. Where were all the warnings about gas vehicle fires, that's proof EV fires stories are hyped BS

People here the word "Recall" and they loose their minds. You have to look into what the actual recall is to get an accurate description of the issue. Recalls happen. Especially nowadays with all this crazy technology. But, what the recall really means, put's it into proper perspective.
Sorry but this is a complete no go for me. I'm not paying for a car that forces you to pay constantly for features (hint: you don't own the whole car) and 100% agree with the comment about android auto and carplay. Give us choice!
Did I count 23 individual selections on that 17" touch screen alone? What happened to tactile feel, so you don't have to take your eyes off the road? I'd imagine there are dozens of additional selections behind those twenty-three. Is this really a good idea?
I also own a 2017 Bolt. It is the best 2nd family car there is. It is very impractical for a primary car-not good for trips more than 100 miles one way. But fantastic for anything less than that.
I have a 2LT 2024 Blazer EV eAWD 85KWh that is heavily related to the Equinox EV. I have 10K miles on it. It's been a great vehicle (with normal door handles :). The Equinox EV looks like a great vehicle and the 1LT [$35K] should be in production shortly with the 2025MY.
Like someone said below, there were about 11 issues with the Bolt but GM replaced them all! they did not have to but they did. ALL manufactures have had an issue with potential thermal events, gas or electric. Google built in is a great system in EVs... ACP and even AA wont tell you where, when, and how long to charge for. The system know your range, terrain, temp, everything that will effect range... Also Google built in is free for 8 years! Super Cruise is free for 3 years! No other system gives you that long of a trial, that I know of. I think TFL will go out of their to find more negatives on a GM product. There is some bias. You can tell there are some manufactures they like more then others, but that is human nature.
At least we didn’t get Roman as the reviewer . He doesn’t know you need to download charging apps and put your credit card on them before he. Goes to do a review and whines like a 1st grader if things don’t go his way. Andre is the best at tfl and Tommy 2nd.

GM got rid of Carpland Android Auto because they want to sell you apps. Bottom line. Greed. Continued use of Google Maps in this car already has a price. Makes me sick.
After owning my Bolt, while I love the car overall, I don’t think I would buy another GM product for two reasons, mainly around greed: 1. The requirement to have a subscription to OnStar to get any decent functionality. 2. GM is super uptight about releasing higher level diagnostics capabilities. I have on of those $400 launch diagnostic tablets that works as a dealer level diagnostics tool on my Lexus and Ford, but it’s virtually useless for anything on the Bolt. Other OBD apps I have also have virtually no GM enhanced diagnostics while they have all the other MFG’s.
Yes! Those small little holes for headlights will get fill with slush, snow, and the like in bad weather. I also think the entire front end looks like trash, but we all have our own tastes. Preferences aside I think the recessed headlights will be a problem for those is bad weather areas.
The subscription is included for free for eight years. The built-in Google platform provides the needed charging integration information that Car Play cannot.
I imagine I'm in the minority, but I'm not a fan of big wheels. Give me 18" or even smaller. I wonder how much big wheels and tires add to the cost of the vehicle. Not to mention replacement tires.
Totally agree, big wheels look good, but they're not worth it and everyone has them. My final decider was when I found out small wheels are more efficient
I'm pretty impressed. However, I hope that GM addressed a heat pump instead of the heating element inside the Bolt. That is one detractor that would keep me from buying. My AC in my Bolt It's much more efficient than the heater, And I live in So Cal.
I think Chevy has always had flat out unattractive designs. This is no exception. It looks like a giant Jordan shoe. And it's red on the outside, blue on the inside???
I'm concerned those low embedded headlights will accumulate snow in a snowstorm. They are basically a cavity just above the leading edge of the car, and those LED headlights are unlikely to generate enough heat to melt any snow that finds its way in there. If you happen to be driving in a blizzard at night, you might just find you have two reasons why you can't see where you're going... 😳😬
My 2020 Bolt was amazing, had it for 4 years and no problems, and my new Blazer is fantastic! I will never go back to gas. Wish they had a Colorado EV, that will be my next ride
The biggest "unfinished" aspect I can see for the Equinox EV right now is that the DC fast charging profile needs to be finalized. It is still too erratic/inconsistent, and it has a significant dip in charging speed between 40% and 60% battery. If Equinox EV owners want to travel as quickly as possible right now, they are priced into driving it like a Tesla (making about twice as many stops as reasonable and only charging for 15 to 20 minutes at a time). Ideally, these Ultium batteries should be charging from 10% to 80% in 30 to 35 minutes instead of the 40 to 45 minutes we're currently seeing, giving drivers the option to travel 600 to 700 miles with just a couple of stops.
so need subscription for using things like maps ? considering you have a data plan already in your phone….also does it have a 110v regular outlet for V2L ?
I only use the dash screen for the radio - im old school like that. I still use a vent clip phone holder for my phone and use google maps on my phone - its just better🤷
Narrator: Chevy didn't had a rough Electric Journey. They did more than most Manufacturer would do: recalling otherwise perfectly good Cars for a single Problem. Contrary to lets say Tesla who didn't recall a single Car after hundreds of Fires and dozens of Deaths Chevy would get sued into Oblivion by their Customers and their Shareholder if something would happen over and over again. Most likely because Chevy isn't protected by a Cult which does its damnendest to protect their beloved Car Brand and its Owner from any Damage.
I have an Equinox AWD to test drive over the weekend, and it IS a very nice vehicle. Not as maneuverable as my Bolt, but it is significantly quicker in a straight line. Seats are better, and there is much more room in the back hatch area. Unfortunately, in order to get the features I want, I will have to move up to the RS or LT 3 speck level.
The door handles on the EV6 are similar and while i don't have the fancy ones that pop out they begin to make sense after dealing with them for a while.
The biggest deal for me if I were to buy an Equinox or Blazer EV (which I'm not right now) would be the towing rating. I would like to be able to tow a pop-up camper and the Blazer has a much better tow rating.
I have a difficult time getting past the horrible experience of a rental 2021 Equinox: painful front seats, ridiculous speedometer. GM needs to listen to the critics.
The LT seats are horrendous! The RS seats are perfect. GM should make the RS seats default. And add Apple Carplay. Then, this could become the best seller in 2025.
Android Automotive will have all your apps, except for Apple Maps. You're not losing anything not having ACP, as long as the ecosystem has all the apps you use. The problem with Tesla not having AA/ACP is that their app ecosystem is small. That problem doesn't exist with Android Automotive.
Equinox had a pretty good reliably until GM bought out Suzuki at the CAMI plant. GM worked their magic and turned the Equinox into an unreliable platform by stipping reliably from it to support the GM Executives bonuses.
Tom Maloughney on the State of Charge channel leased one. Unfortunately, he's reporting that it won't accept a charge from either a 110V or 240V AC charger. DC fast charging works, but having to use a DC fast charger negates one of the prime benefits of owning an EV - charging cheaply at home overnight. I'm sure GM will sort this out, but the problem certainly doesn't look good for the Equinox EV... PS: This comment isn't meant as a smear on GM, as I truly want to see the Equinox EV succeed.
You beat me to it.... And the DC charging curve sucks, especially on a 150 kilowatt charger.... Since it has such a high amp requirement... There's no need to smear GM, they are doing a good enough job of doing that to themselves...
A starting price under 30 grand is the sweet spot for this inflated economy . I think this one will work as long as the battery and motors are durable . I have a feeling that Tesla will put out the Model 2 and kill sales.
I test drove a Bolt loving it and almost got one but the battery recall hit at the same time. By the time the car was ready... didn't need it anymore. Been watching Chevy struggle for a while with EVs but I think they are finally turning a corner.
I own a 2022 Bolt LT2 and i love it! I don't understand why chevy would drop Apple CarPlay. As long as CarPlay exist I would not even consider buying a car without it.
Android auto on my 23 bolt EV 2LT is a little flaky, maybe they're trying to avoid that type of experience, I'd still prefer to have it. Also proprietary nav can be better integrated especially for charging
Your comments about Apple Car Play and subscription models are very inconsistent. "Give people what they want" is exactly why subscription models are the best. Those who want the item can get it, and those who don't won't have to pay for something they don't need or want. Apple Car Play as a subscription would meet both group's needs. (It would be interesting to know what Apple charges for a Car Play license. I doubt it is free.) I never use mine because I have an Android phone.
To me, this appears to be an archaic design. You are right in that Chevy has indeed had a rough electric journey - one that they can clearly blame on themselves for their lack of consistent effort and non-devotion to the EV auto space. This changes nothing for them, and the people that want them to stay in business. Reminds me of a science magazine's render from the year 1999, of what the future electric car will look like in 2024.
I don't like how far the headlights are tucked into the bumper. I bet they can't shine upwards very well. I ran into that problem with a 2005 Mustang. Driving at night sucked on the interstate, by the time I was close enough to overhead signs to read them, the headlights stopped illuminating them. You had to hope someone was behind you keeping the sign lit up for you. It's a small gripe, but one I remember well.

12 fires is Armageddon on fox news only😅 that many gasoline vehicles catch on fire every 13.5 minutes in america.
@@1225KPH new tech new manufacturing processes. It took 100 years to get gas cars so they didn't burn oil after 60k miles hopefully it won't take that long to perfect batteries.

My son just got one. Crazy great lease deals. Fine so far. We’re owned two Bolts too.
A guy i know leased a Blazer, great price too but insurance was about $2500 a year.
@@dewdew34 I was concerned about that so I called my insurance company and it was not a huge difference between the EV I’m looking at and the one I own, but it went up gradually, and I think the Tesla was the most expensive for some reason. It’s definitely something worth shopping around for and taking into consideration.

The instant response and lack of transmission gears makes the EV much quicker real world
I have a 201 HP Bolt, it's pretty quick for an entry car!

GM has a knack for shooting themselves in the foot unfortunately.
I would think Chevy could fix for handle with an OTA update. Let's go Chevy. Keep up
@@alsheremeta I don’t have to worry about freezing rain much where I live, but ergonomics of the paddle seem inferior, the motor seems like another thing to break and they telegraph to everyone when the car is open. Not a deal breaker for me, but when I’m looking at an EV, having normal handles gets a check mark in the positive column. Just about every EV has some feature that I would personally consider asinine so I’ll have to live with something I don’t like to get the overall car I want.
I'm over big wheels, they look good, but everyone has them, more likely to scratch wheels, expensive tires
@@rp9674 I don’t really appreciate them at all, I don’t hate them but I don’t see them as improving the look of the car. So if I had the choice I’d always go for the smaller wheels. If I look at smaller wheels and I see more range or a more comfortable ride, then that’s beauty to me.

@rp9674 'big vehicle'? Why are you talking about the Hummer EV ;)
Idk why people give GM ev’s such a hard time about them not having Apple CarPlay when Tesla, Rivian and Lucid dont have it in their vehicles.
If Tesla put an old phone handset hanging off the dash it would be raved about - Tesla invents rhe car phone, doesn't work, then they fixed it with an OTA notarecall update, genius!
Rivian - it part of the "lifestyle experience"
It's all propaganda, these people probably wouldn't buy a GM product anyways however they always find their way to see what's going on and chime in, it's the stupidest thing to me.

For some reason car companies in the past thought that EV's needed to look ridiculous. Now they are starting to look like regular cars. (thank goodness)
I don’t like when car companies don’t use unique names for the electric “version”, unless they are the same car. This looks nothing like the gas version and warrants a different name.

Nice to see GM finally starting to get their ev act together.

GM got rid of Carpland Android Auto because they want to sell you apps. Bottom line. Greed. Continued use of Google Maps in this car already has a price. Makes me sick.
I don't like it but arguably their app will be better integrated, specially for charging
After owning my Bolt, while I love the car overall, I don’t think I would buy another GM product for two reasons, mainly around greed:

I disagree that LED headlight is going to produce a ton of heat. But I still think it's a dumb idea. The LED lights not going to melt mud.
My 2020 Bolt was amazing, had it for 4 years and no problems, and my new Blazer is fantastic! I will never go back to gas. Wish they had a Colorado EV, that will be my next ride
No android auto and required cell monthly subscription is a 100% dealbreaker.
Tesla it's been doing this
The biggest "unfinished" aspect I can see for the Equinox EV right now is that the DC fast charging profile needs to be finalized.
Those door handles are just something to break and cost a fortune to repair. They are bad enough to kill this as an option for me.
so need subscription for using things like maps ? considering you have a data plan already in your phone….also does it have a 110v regular outlet for V2L ?

Narrator: Chevy didn't had a rough Electric Journey. They did more than most Manufacturer would do: recalling otherwise perfectly good Cars for a single Problem. Contrary to lets say Tesla who didn't recall a single Car after hundreds of Fires and dozens of Deaths Chevy would get sued into Oblivion by their Customers and their Shareholder if something would happen over and over again. Most likely because Chevy isn't protected by a Cult which does its damnendest to protect their beloved Car Brand and its Owner from any Damage.
Tesla dozens of deaths? How many? Show your work. 24? 48? 96?120?
Very well-reviewed. I just upgraded from my Bolt to the Equinox what a great car!
Also should offer premium audio, currently not available on any trim.

Android auto on my 23 bolt EV 2LT is a little flaky, maybe they're trying to avoid that type of experience, I'd still prefer to have it. Also proprietary nav can be better integrated especially for charging
So far, no manufacturer has created a car that I would trade my Bolt EUV Premiere for. PLUS having it paid for males it the Worlds Best Car! 😅
Best deal
Why isnt the rear wiper tucked under the spoiler???
Those A pillars look to create a massive blind spot. What do you think?
Massive pillars to meet rollover requirements with super heavy battery - unfortunate!
I think every vehicle has massive a pillars now
Non EVs also have them. @@YuenanCao
Very nice car. Glad it’s not built by uaw.
I disagree with your chrome assessment. I love chrome! Looks great!
I think this is the sweet spot!
To me, this appears to be an archaic design. You are right in that Chevy has indeed had a rough electric journey - one that they can clearly blame on themselves for their lack of consistent effort and non-devotion to the EV auto space. This changes nothing for them, and the people that want them to stay in business. Reminds me of a science magazine's render from the year 1999, of what the future electric car will look like in 2024.
the volt was actually a decent car. they shouldnt have gotten rid of it. as for the bolt its a shame about the battery pack.
I love the Door handles LOL
The only thing Equanox EV really should have is faster charging. There is really no reason a 70kWh + battery should not charge at 200kW +...
If only I hadn't been burned by buying a Chevrolet Chevette in years past, I might consider a Chevrolet, but not now.
