I like how he first acknowledged his education and learned skill set. He acknowledges that this allowed him to create more in top of what had already been done. Great vid.
Flash, fantastic video. This is coming from a 70s baby who was enveloped by this music and led me to spinning as a teen. Would you consider doing a "mixtape" of you half and double timing over those classic 70s grooves, an anthology of sorts if one doesn't already exist. Thank you for setting the foundation for what hip hop was and what it has led to. Kudos sir
Grandmaster Flash had little to nothing to do with almost none of Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five's recordings. In fact their biggest hit, 'The Message', Flash nor the Furious 5 were on it, except Melle Mel who did the last verse that started "A Child Is Born With No State Of Mind..." That song was written and mostly performed by Duke Bootie aka Edward Fletcher
@@bigolbabyhuey Really I did not know that, I remember Melle Mel, so many years have past and many new genres have popped up since i barely remember names of artist from back then, still love Frankie knuckles tears full frequancy records, my favorate tune from that era.

GM Flash blessed by the Creator to have a purpose in life. Clear reason to be here. Amazing. Never took the time to pay attention to his contributions. I’m embarrassed by this. Glad I know now.
Facts stated by Grandmaster Flash. Respect to Kool Herc for what he planted and it was to play the get down part. Flash added to this by inventing to seemlessly extend the get down part as long as a dj wanted to on beat. I myself witnessed Herc in the streets and also witnessed Flash in the streets back in 1977 in the Boogie down Bronx where I grew up in. Peace & Love to both of these legendary DJays.
Mad love Dj Louielo! And I always thought you were from Brooklyn or Queens. What part of the Boogie Down are you from? I saw plenty of Flash as a kid, but never got to see Herc, always heard of him, seen the herculoids, but too young for Herc himself. I always assumed he was similar to flash. Was he? Both legends, but was one clearly better than the other? Or about the same? Old cats used to talk about Herc like he was 7 feet tall with 6 arms.
@@pvj2234 I'm from the Boogie Down Bronx born and raised just 4 blocks away from Yankee Stadium. And yes Kool Herc is over 6 feet tall. Herc & Flash have different styles of deejaying. Flash was more the the scratching and cutting up to shreds type of deejay while Herc just blended the beat also known as the "get down" part of the song longer to party on to the extended beat part. Herc also had a system that was incredibly powerful that can only be felt in night clubs. This would also bring huge crowds to the street jams back in the 70's.
Flash is fast I met you back in 1981 at Gaints stadium at the Budwiser festival. You and crew was sitting in front of me, It was the joint, that Saturday afternoon . AND YOU KNOW THAT!!
So hype...the droning ambient hum behind Flash's ambiguous speeches is perfect, like a mastermind revealing his secret origins. "The third component" AKA Bam, plays the part of a fallen god of the big three. What will be the conclusion to this story?
Flash Is Flash! Only 1 Flash, you was the new kid on the block doing something new. I've only read about the rivalry between you & Herc 3rd hand. From Rap Book's from the mid-late 80s over here in the U.K.
That dark music turned this really Serious. GrandMasterFlash, aint nobody gonna take your spot or forget what you invented and contributed to Turntablism and Hip Hop. You will not be mistaken or erased from this history of the culture. You are a the pillar in wich we are all indebted too. We all know it. Congrats on your consulting with "The Get Down". Yet another undeniable record of you achievements and influence.
GM Flash, as a young kid from the West Bronx, I and my friends watched, studied and copied your every move. Herc was the first person I ever heard played the get down but GM Flash, Theodore and others perfected the mix, from which I learned.
He might be but, Herc gives us The Breaks beats Theodore give us the scratching and Flash give the three punch phrasing, scratching and backspin technique.
he never did it for money or fame but for love of music and culture. true legend

Thanks. Wasn't sure since he isn't dead... PEACE
he is not dead but exiled bad stain on the art form, do your own research on that.
Ok. Thanks!
I agree and I still respect his contribution but I am not looking to go to a Zulu anniversary or supporting anything Zulu as they have not handled there business internally. I know mad long Time Bronx Zulus who broke away to start something fresh and new they are heart broken over the fact of no real regime change. He did a lot for hip hop and I will never forget that he always be mentioned, you just wont see him any more. he left a lasting impression beat wise...
I like how he first acknowledged his education and learned skill set. He acknowledges that this allowed him to create more in top of what had already been done. Great vid.
Thank you both for bringing us Hip Hop.
Grandmaster Flash is a legend! A true genius creator and pioneer of turtablism and hip hop. Loved watching this video and everything said is 100.
This is art.... brua 🎧.it comes from within
Classics played with style!
Thank you grand master for the inspiration
Greatest DJ Mix of all time - GMF on the wheels of steel . PERIOD. Hail GrandMasterFlash
Kudos sir
Thank you God Father! Thank you Kool Herc, thank you Bambaata and thank you GM⚡
amazing so much love from us in the uk too . dj breaks for life x
I grew up listening to your music, your a legend 😎
Thank you for Hip-Hop and being PE#1 of the home. I was the Black Sheep of the House for electronics!! A closed ear kills the mind, an Open ear grows the mind. Let's Keep Growing!!
GM Flash blessed by the Creator to have a purpose in life. Clear reason to be here. Amazing. Never took the time to pay attention to his contributions. I’m embarrassed by this. Glad I know now.
Hip Hop is the most amazing form of creativity in music
That intro was so emotional.
This is one of the most important videos I've ever seen.
Dj Disco King Mario had echo chamber and all the equipment he’s talking about first!!
No kool bec had it first
Facts stated by Grandmaster Flash.
I thought Mario had an echo chamber first
Yes Mario and dj Kool d had the echo chamber first
Flash is fast
I met you back in 1981 at Gaints stadium at the Budwiser festival. You and crew was sitting in front of me, It was the joint, that Saturday afternoon .
AND YOU KNOW THAT!!
MAD RESPECT TO THIS
This one of the best letters intro ❤
Flash I admire u man I jus watched Get Dwn n man I must say it was very interesting shout out to the olschool
Tak tohle už je nestárnoucí klasika. Dříve, někdy v 90. letech v dokumentu-looking for a perfect beat 💓💓💓Já hi viděl snad stokrát.
I hope Herc and Flash do a documentary on history of Hip Hop
Flash is very humble human being.
Big up to Both 👊🏿👊🏿🇯🇲
This is off the chain!💪
Much respect!girls love the way he spins. Djays want to be like him.
So hype...the droning ambient hum behind Flash's ambiguous speeches is perfect, like a mastermind revealing his secret origins. "The third component" AKA Bam, plays the part of a fallen god of the big three. What will be the conclusion to this story?
Boom Boom this shit is epic. Hip Hop Gold
Flash Is Flash! Only 1 Flash, you was the new kid on the block doing something new. I've only read about the rivalry between you & Herc 3rd hand. From Rap Book's from the mid-late 80s over here in the U.K.
There is no way someone cant say they just didn't learn something just now. Flash is the true father of hip hop...bx native #forlife
Kool herc is the true father of hip hop
Seen a lot...Living in the Building, 1199. 168st Boston road, above the Livingston Family. There's so much credence to what Flash is saying.
And that is how hip hop was born
GM Flash, as a young kid from the West Bronx, I and my friends watched, studied and copied your every move. Herc was the first person I ever heard played the get down but GM Flash, Theodore and others perfected the mix, from which I learned.
Beautiful, just dope. The real Joseph Sadler put his ego aside to talk man-to-man.
Great video flash
This technique catapulted hip hop out of R&B's orbit to make its own distinct genere.
Much love grandmaster from Australia.
thanx for teaching the truth....legendary
SHOUT OUT :TO THE GRAND MASTERS OF HIP HOP!
Man this was legendary!
He might be but, Herc gives us The Breaks beats Theodore give us the scratching and Flash give the three punch phrasing, scratching and backspin technique.
