At 25:21 I think that since Yoshi ate the fruit his tongue was still over the pipe by the time he reached it's side which confused the game into believing he was on the pipe thus allowing him inside a few frames earlier. At 29:35 at the ledge of that platform in JP Sunshine there is an extra piece of collision which they used to save time and keep their speed for longer. For the trick at 14:17 RasmusSW said it himself at 42:12 what you might not know is the trick was orginally found by the same JP player who founded the banana 3rd balcony glitch. Yes the whole getting the banana on the top balcony in the hotel was done orginally by a human being and was extremely hard as unlike TAS guy who slowed the game down enough to have the banana barely be always in sight. The orginal guy had to just guess. As the trick requires you to spray it out of the fruit stand then start spin jumping while spraying the banana all the way to the second balcony jump. If done right then on the second balcony jump when you do it as spin spray jump the water will give it enough force to push it on top. Then, you have to perfectly do the final jump normally so the banana doesn't despawn. However if done wrong the banana can go over the glass meaning you have to restart. The trick and the guys other few tricks such as the one the blue coin TAS collector speedrunner guy did at 14:17 and the trick he did with the lava in the beginning of the run made it into a Japanese Nintendo magazine under the speedrun section for sunshine. The dudes fingers almost got arthritis from the hotel banana trick so he said it should just remain a TAS trick, and so it has. You were right about the nosel foward boost trick. It was discovered by another runner on the JP side. The trick done at 44:45 was also discovered by someone else from that side using the nosel trick to reach the secret area fast so they could skip the obstacles and swimming. The collecting the blue coins however is totally just the TAS runner being the Blue coin TAS guy lmao The balloon trick at 52:41 is actually done by breaking balloons that aren't even spawned in yet. As a European player, it was discovered that just like squid race, there are triggers. However, the triggers are the spot of the balloons in the further hills that aren't spawned yet. So you destroy the first balloons and shoot the other rockets at the direction of the unspawmed balloons and the destroy the other spawned balloons and with luck the triggers should hit as you destroy the other balloons in vision, thus ending the mini game and getting you the star. It's totally luck that you get the right angle for the triggers being hit, but since he's playing with TAS, he got them first try. The using tbe nosel to descend faster in the seal arena was also discovered by Europeans and does, save a few frames like you guessed. The trick at 53:34 abuses the fact that every 100 coin star has a secret activation spot under each map. However, that map is the only one that can be stood in front of. So he broke the box, then side jumped to grab the nosel and land inside the box as it spawned and immediately held back on the stick while nosel hovering about 5 frames after he was pushed under the map by the block so he could land in front of the trigger for the 100 star and spray it, foring the star to spawn. For 58:18 in the JP Sunshine the green wigglers hit box extends at spot Mario was standing, this was fixed in the American and European versions. For 58:41 in JP Sunshine the animation your talking about doesn't exist it was only created for the international American, European releases. So in JP that's how the mission is usually completed. For 59:52 in JP Sunshine you can stop yourself from falling off slopes by going into first person zoom and moving Mario away from the cliff allowing you to just walk back up. For 1:00:12 in JP Sunshine for some reason there is a single spot up there where the water extends hitting it saves time but requires extreme luck with TAS. For 1:00:44 you are right on how the glitch works with nosel underwater works. He basically combined it with the fact that in JP Sunshine there is a single frame of that rock that needs to be hit at a certain angle that will deactivate the water physics for Mario as long as he's in range of the rock for a short time. However when done with the nosel he uses the effect will remain until he leaves the raidus of the rock which extends pretty far. For 1:03:44 in JP Sunshine there are specific spots on every floor that have collision gaps letting you pass through them. In the American and European version the gaps were made smaller and the bathroom spot was sealed with collision. For 1:05:18 in JP Sunshine a specific spot on that building has wonky collision that when you let Mario fall on he will be pushed inside a invisible cube and pushed out of it letting you clip inside the building. For 1:05:28 there's a specific spot in the water there that has an entrance underground in JP and European Sunshine. For 1:07:05 in JP and I think European Sunshine that specific patch of lava isn't actually lava so you can just fall there and go underneath everything as seen afterwards. For 1:07:14 in JP Sunshine rocket storge combined with slopes always gives you an insane height boost. For 1:07:45 when the platform breaks the broken parts count as slopes which he's using with rocket storge and canceling with a spin jump to propel himself foward then do another foward rocket boost to get to the next platform.
I know how the spider glitch works. The spider on the wall can only be destroyed by yoshi normally, but for some reason hitting your head on the sewer roof changes your hit box into a state where you can hit it without taking damage.
@@supergamer1388 I knew they did that occasionally but did not know it was tied to sewers. It makes sense with the changed state of Mario tho so i can see it being the reason
Mario speedruns. Where everything is a suggestion including, but not limited to, walls, floors, doors, ceilings, lava, water, time, the fabric of reality and sanity
not to take ANYTHING away from the tas itself, or linkus for that matter, but one of my favourite parts of this video is linkus freaking out about strats being used that have been rta viable + in use for years, it's just been a while since he's done/seen a run 😅
Wall: “a continuous vertical brick or stone structure that encloses or divides an area of land. However, for those that are cracked at video games, they are encouraged, but not required”
Rules list for this TAS: Rule #1: Everything's a Teleporter Rule #2: Physics isn't real (only when you want them to be) Rule #3: Walls are a suggestion. P.S. ngl this sounds like a list the tf2 soldier would make. (Soldier is incredibly dumb but everything he does just works. like the TAS.)
Found my new favorite channel. I’ve found myself recently obsessed with speed runs and came from your TAS twilight princess reaction. Love your videos I just subscribed like 3 seconds ago lol
What makes this speed run so phenomenal to me is that the speed runner remembers EVERYTHING. Even with tools, he knows where every coin, position, action, and method needed to get this done.
I love how the tricks and clips become more insane the further into the movie you get. I imagine since it took so long to make they were incorporating new tech they learned about in "real time".
So, usually the only way to kill the yellow spiders is by using Yoshi, but if you "for some reason", go into the sewers and pop back out, even touch a spider, it kills it. Some weird property of going into the sewers, makes mario just..kill them on contact.
you have to jump or full rollout into the sewer so that mario hits the ceiling of the sewer. as hitting the ceiling is what causes it. it's called "sewer glitch". it not only lets you kill enemies just by running into them, but when you try to touch durians, even slightly, it shoots them across the map. it's a p easy glitch to pull off. try it sometime
I can explain the Pinna 100-coin Shine. As you already know, certain objects have an invisible, constant trigger to spawn a coin when sprayed. Pinna Park's beach has a massive number of them during episode 5 specifically. No RNG involved; just spray exactly where the triggers are.
I haven’t see a new tas yet but I’m familiar with this game because how cool this is. I still love they made wright tas in the beginning that was sick. 4:37 they skip the first shine for route optimization and other stuff as well. 360Chrism know this game too well because of his 602 runs and as a speedrun in general. 15:36 that tech is similar to dive grinding from Mario 64.
This was hilarious to watch you attempt to explain this TAS, while being unable to explain it without slowing it down bc that's just how fast TAS be lmaooo I didn't think I would watch the entire hour video until I was mesmerized by the TAS's movements from start to finish. Was crazy to see this TAS defy all rules and logic, and see it tear the most difficult levels to shreds AS IF IT WERE NOTHING. Great entertaining video, loved seeing my childhood game get beaten just like that
I just played this game for the first time a few weeks ago. I clipped OOB at least 5 times by accident during my playthrough. I'm glad the bad collision detection has been abused to its fullest extent.
On the giant mushroom level I've accidentally clipped out and landed on the surface at the bottom of the pit. From there I could walk around and saw the fairgrounds in the distance above me
29:30 has gotta be that the camera hadn't caught up with the block so its collision was still in its default position, and he jumped off it in whatever short time the collision wasn't synced. He probably kept the camera like that just for simplicity, though maybe also for more default positioned-blocks
yeah if you keep the camera facing backward like that, the collision stays there and it goes away as long as the camera faces forward. so there's some real tactical reasons to keep the camera backward and it isn't JUST for the viewer's anxiety levels lol
I agree with Linkus' statement "This is too fast." As someone who usually watches videos at 2x speed, I had to watch this at regular speed just to see what the heck is happening.
Hey Linkus, I had an idea for a new speedrun category you could try. Crowd control co-op any%. You run a game while your partner is logged into your CC account with unlimited coins, and they strategically give you all the items you need to beat it as fast as possible. Might be cool.
My favorite part of watching these TAS reaction videos is when Linkus assumes that he knows what tricks the TAS is about to do and starts explaining them, only to be left absolutely speechless when the TAS does a completely different strategy even faster than the normal strat would be lol
So many moments where Linkus is just looking around like "What in the flying fuck just happened?" Also all the "Wha... What?? How???" Moments xD Honestly can't help but feel like the TASer is secretly GrayStillPlays just yeeting through the game like an absolute lunatic, the whole time shouting stuff like "NOT TODAAYY SATAAAAN" and "WE DON'T NEED PHYSICS WHERE WE'RE GOING".
The clipping under the lava bit reminds me of the Ed Edd & Eddy episode where Ed goes "Look I'm smarter than a sign!" And rips the edge of the grass up and crawls under the turf and pops up through it with a "boing!"
Absolutely insane 😂 hard to believe even with a TAS somebody had the patience to perfect run Sunshine lol Its also funny to me how Ive gone from watching/trying HALO tas runs to watching this kind of thing 😂
The funny thing I always find about TAS since I helped a friend work on one (didn't play or give advice just mental support cause she needed it) is it IS the fastest form of a Speedrun that takes the longest to do
43:48 Its not because Mario is rolling, the TASer used a glitch called Rocket Storage and you can save a rocket launch by cancelling it at the second when its fully charged so by jumping frame perfectly the game registers the launch causing Mario to move upwards diagonally, backwards and forwards. The game can also register the launches by simply side stepping to a ledge.

29:18 Linkus commentating that the TAS is too fast and not catching that TAS gets a perfect gamba spray on the slots
Love this Tas, it's so insane. Chrism was actually able to breakdown a lot of what happened somehow, but it still doesn't make sense lol
I love how he repeats "Shine Get" and "Super hard shadow mario" almost 50 times
Rules list for this TAS:
Rule #1: Everything's a Teleporter
Rule #2: Physics isn't real (only when you want them to be)
Rule #3: Walls are a suggestion.
P.S. ngl this sounds like a list the tf2 soldier would make.
"Collision is a suggestion" that's so true with these TAS runs
I think seeing him write "TAS" in the goop without us realizing should have been a sign of the insanity to come
The peak definition of "don't underestimate my power."
I can explain the Pinna 100-coin Shine. As you already know, certain objects have an invisible, constant trigger to spawn a coin when sprayed. Pinna Park's beach has a massive number of them during episode 5 specifically. No RNG involved; just spray exactly where the triggers are.
10:09:22 "Who is he talking to?" during the fadeout LMAO
I haven’t see a new tas yet but I’m familiar with this game because how cool this is. I still love they made wright tas in the beginning that was sick.
4:37 they skip the first shine for route optimization and other stuff as well. 360Chrism know this game too well because of his 602 runs and as a speedrun in general.
15:36 that tech is similar to dive grinding from Mario 64.
44:11 I figured out why we have a problem with the bee population. It’s this guy. TAS. Him and Yoshi have to be STOPPED. 😂
Wishing you luck in avoiding Nintendos strikes streaks. Love your videos ❤
Speedrunner stays a long time watching a casual playthrough of Super Mario Sunshine
Great job on the editing ^^
This was hilarious to watch you attempt to explain this TAS, while being unable to explain it without slowing it down bc that's just how fast TAS be lmaooo
I didn't think I would watch the entire hour video until I was mesmerized by the TAS's movements from start to finish. Was crazy to see this TAS defy all rules and logic, and see it tear the most difficult levels to shreds AS IF IT WERE NOTHING. Great entertaining video, loved seeing my childhood game get beaten just like that
Linkus has "THIS MAN CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS" energy all video, and it's amazing.
this isn't a TAS. This is me playing
I just played this game for the first time a few weeks ago. I clipped OOB at least 5 times by accident during my playthrough. I'm glad the bad collision detection has been abused to its fullest extent.
Things that are optional:
Walls
Water
Floors
Chucksters
The Sand Bird
The Intended Route
Ceilings
Blooper Riding
Time
On the giant mushroom level I've accidentally clipped out and landed on the surface at the bottom of the pit.
Very few things are as nice as watching Linkus talk about speedruns
I agree with Linkus' statement "This is too fast." As someone who usually watches videos at 2x speed, I had to watch this at regular speed just to see what the heck is happening.
I love how Linkus legitimately made the "amphibian" "Reptile" joke by sheer accident.
TAS Sunshine has a terrifying aura around it...
Imagine being only half an hour slower than this absolute unit of a TAS…
Hey Linkus, I had an idea for a new speedrun category you could try. Crowd control co-op any%. You run a game while your partner is logged into your CC account with unlimited coins, and they strategically give you all the items you need to beat it as fast as possible. Might be cool.
My favorite part of watching these TAS reaction videos is when Linkus assumes that he knows what tricks the TAS is about to do and starts explaining them, only to be left absolutely speechless when the TAS does a completely different strategy even faster than the normal strat would be lol
Love Sunshine and really appreciated the breakdowns!
Linkus being excited for tas is how i feel watching linkus speedrun XD
So many moments where Linkus is just looking around like "What in the flying fuck just happened?"
Also all the "Wha... What?? How???" Moments xD
Honestly can't help but feel like the TASer is secretly GrayStillPlays just yeeting through the game like an absolute lunatic, the whole time shouting stuff like "NOT TODAAYY SATAAAAN" and "WE DON'T NEED PHYSICS WHERE WE'RE GOING".
It's so satisfying to watch the perfect movement
17:32 WHAT IN THE WORLD! What kind of movement is that to get that shine! Holy 💩 dude! What is going on!
This TAS is the product of what happens when one is possessed by the DEMON that is Speedrunner Mario.
The clipping under the lava bit reminds me of the Ed Edd & Eddy episode where Ed goes "Look I'm smarter than a sign!" And rips the edge of the grass up and crawls under the turf and pops up through it with a "boing!"
Absolutely insane 😂 hard to believe even with a TAS somebody had the patience to perfect run Sunshine lol
Its also funny to me how Ive gone from watching/trying HALO tas runs to watching this kind of thing 😂
Linkus pogs so hard that I woke up from my nap I started while watching this
24:16 is one of the funniest TAS shenanigans I’ve seen in a while
The funny thing I always find about TAS since I helped a friend work on one (didn't play or give advice just mental support cause she needed it) is it IS the fastest form of a Speedrun that takes the longest to do
Linkus: "This is one of the hardest stages"
TAS: (Already halfway through it as he says that)
43:48 Its not because Mario is rolling, the TASer used a glitch called Rocket Storage and you can save a rocket launch by cancelling it at the second when its fully charged so by jumping frame perfectly the game registers the launch causing Mario to move upwards diagonally, backwards and forwards. The game can also register the launches by simply side stepping to a ledge.
i like how this video slowly goes from a explanation to an explanatioff
"..they have partnered up with the testicular cancer foundation, which not only helps bring awareness to something that I think is absolutely amazing.." I LOVE TESTICULAR CANCER
Love these TAS Breackdowns/Reactions
I've never played mario 64 I loved sunshine though so seeing a tas speedrun is blowing me away the yoshi carousel stage was pure insanity
So i have two jokes i always love when it comes to TAS videos. Ones universal and the other tends to be a bit more specific but it works here.
"Noo, every time you say 'bro', he runs 3% faster"
And
"Wow, this Mr. Tas guy is really good at games, he should make a career out of it"
