    Texas folks... has anyone had th MX4 long-term..say.. 2-3 years or more? I've had two Bakflip Revolvers, my neighbor has had two, and my brother in law has had one. On every single one, after 2-3 years in the Texas sun, the vinyl starts shrinking and failing around the edges. I'm thinking going with an MX4 if they don't have that problem in Texas.

    I put a BakFlip cover on my 2016 F-150 shortly after I bought the truck in March, 2016. Mine was covered with a flexible vinyl sheet, but folded just like this one. It was great for about five years, but now two of the panel edges have been deformed, causing sagging of two panels at the panel joints. I have never put anything in the cover, but I do go through an automatic car wash regularly, and I think the spinning roller that does the top of the vehicle might be the source of the load that’s deformed the panel edges.

    Just wait a few years.....that pull cable assembly uses a few rivits into the bottom which on ours is the same thing aluminum as the top side. The opening and lifting from one side flexes the panels and causes that thin aluminum to allow the rivit to pull itself thru. I disassemble mine and added additional stainless steel rivits after one pull cable assembly fell off. I did the rest too. But I discovered the other day when I got home, one of them pulled thru and it fell off I to the bed. Just from vibration of drives.
    So now I got to figure out a new 'fix' for this expensive junk cover.

      @@donaldalderman2424 we have a Roll n Lock on our F350 DRW. The second version with the vinyl top. It's doing well with little maintenance but the only issue is if left rolled up for a long time, the vinyl top gets silver lines from the aluminum bottom....just the nature of how it rolls up. Hard to clean off. But if you keep it closed mostly, it's a non issue. We have a 5th wheel and it stays rolled up while towing. They are expensive but you can find them used pretty reasonable.
      My friend has the BAK model that is 3-panel flip but sits on top of the bed rails. Other than it's not as flush and is heavier when removing, it seem way better made than this other design.
      I had a US Tonneau TRI fold soft on my Ram. In Florida, you get about 3-5 years out of those with the sun beating down. I loved it. Light weight, easy to remove when I loaded up the motorcycle and cost around $200. Yea, not as secure and vinyl will wear at the folds eventually, but $200 every 3-4 years isnt really a bad deal. I think they are more $$ now but still.

    what exactly is meant by full bed access? I put my atv in my 6'6" bed. I have about 2" to spare. Does this take up ANY space in the front of the bed when up against the window? Also, I'm definitely afraid of it scratching my paint around the window when fully open, especially when traveling long distances (which I do with my atv in the back). Any concerns there?

    • @LivinginAlaska
      @LivinginAlaska  2 года назад

      Hi Scott, no worries on scratching paint as it has rubber bumpers on it that rest against the window and not the paint. Giving you full access means basically with it on and open you can use the bed itself but it does take up about 7" from the front of the bed if you leave it on the truck. It takes me about 5 minutes to remove it if I need to transport something taller than the sides of the bed. I have the long bed so transporting our ATV was no issue since it didn't interfere.

    Great video. Wanted to add that the MX4 is only about $150-200 more that the G2, and worth every penny. The MX4 has a 5 year warranty!!!! But that is not the best reason to favor it over the G2.
    With the G2, you MUST close the tailgate first, then the cover. Not a problem for me, but I am not always the one closing the tailgate. Took my truck to the car wash, and the guy opened the tailgate. He did not know about needing to open the tonneau cover and closing the tailgate first. So, when it didn't close easily, he SLAMMED IT, again and again, until he did over a thousand dollars worth of damage. The car wash made good, but who needs that aggravation!!

      Well nothing is 100% anything. Where is it leaking? If it is installed properly the only possible area for leaks would be around the tailgate. And as long as your tailgate is locked they shouldn't be able to open it unless they are there with crowbars and in that case, there isn't a tonneau cover out there that is 100% secure (Diamondback is definitely better but if someone wants in bad enough they will figure out how to get in). I consider it keeping the honest people honest.

    It’s not worth anything if you have winter, snow and freezing temperature.
    Snow melts, turns into water then it gets cold again. Water freezes, not just on top, it will gwt into places where it wouldn’t before cause yes it’s not waterproof. My tailgate is frozen, can’t move it at all. Never happened before i got Bakflip mx4. On top ice sticks to it like glue and instructions say clearly you cannot open it in that case.
