@Warren Oakley thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I agree 100 percent with the way you feed you're fish and also i been in the hobby 40 plus years and i have never ever feed live fish to my fish and never would. to risky like you said and for humane reasons sounds corny but i love my fish and have respect for all life. Good video take care and god bless!
Oh, and yes the Omega One algae wafers have the very best ingredients. Almost every fish I have likes them. I crush some up for easier access to more fish, especially the smaller fish. My large severums eat the wafers whole, if I dont break them up. Agree totally with your opinion on them, best you can buy and the fish love it.
My jaw dropped when you said you go through a huge can of flakes within a few days. Even with that many tanks I would have guessed at least two weeks. Crazy! I never thought about how much food a large fish room would go through. I have 4 tanks- a 60 gallon, a 55, a 20H, and a 10 gallon. I feed 4-5 different foods, so sometimes I am throwing food out for being old before I even get past 3/4 of the bag. Although, as shocked as I was at hearing how much fish food you go through, some people are shocked at how much dog food I go through. I breed Olde English Bulldogges and Bullmastiffs. Their food bill could rent an apartment in some areas of the country 😂
Nice overview. I would like to get your take on the ingredients in the foods you talked about. Ratios, quality, fillers, etc. I too feed variety because no one food can be everything to every fish. Variety helps fill in the gaps, IMO. Thanks.
Variety is the spice of life. I have two cold water aquariums with small fish. They have a regular flake and a small flake. I feed small amounts every other day. On the in-between days I give them...on a rota:- Hard boiled egg yolk ... boiled, SKINNED peas and broad beans... frozen blood worms ... carrot slices, boiled and occasionally boiled cucumber slices. Some nibble away at algae... They love everything I offer them, they are happy, dorsal fins always up.
It's interesting how fish react to different foods from the same company. I also use the omega one veggie rounds, fish and shrimp love them. Omega one flakes? Won't touch it. Ended up feeding it to my assassin snails. Half of my tanks get Cobalt Mysis Spirulina flakes: the fish in those tanks absolutely love it, but the fish in the community tank don't, they prefer the Aqueon Tropical flakes. Northfin pellets are received well by the fish large enough to eat them. Bug Bites are a winner all around.
I have the same thing. Some of my fish won't eat NLS pellets while most devour them. I also bought some really expensive flake food only to watch it all go uneaten. Crazy how that happens.
Have 7 female bettas with Rasboras and cories and they like frozen bloodworms, Omega flakes and Bug Bites...so far they seem to like it...always worry that they all got fed though...feed lightly twice a day too..
Tetra has some good products. I feed a couple of their preparations, on a rotating basis with other quality foods, throughout the fish rooms. A good variety and balance, as you said, is key to healthy fish. Looking forward to part 2. Thanks.
I feed my fish twice a day. Morning is a 50/50 mix of NLS and Omega One pellets (NLS Algae max for cichlid tanks). At night they get either pellets again or a frozen (brine shrimp, mysis, krill.) My exodons (bucktooth tetras) get pellet mix in AM and beef heart in the pm. The beef heart i get from local butcher and slice it up and chop in food processors. I am not a fan of any food that the ingredients say 'meal' after the item.
Thanks for the video, you have me reading all the ingredient labels on my fish food. the Omega one and HIKARI have been good choices, I will change my Alge tabs to a different brand. I didn't know african cichilds liked snails, do you have a recommendation on a spieces of snail, size and how often to feed them. thanks again I've enjoyed many of your videos, and look forward to more.
Hi Jason. Could you please suggest a high fiber food for my discus? I tried one suggested by a LFS employee that stick to the inside glass. They won’t eat it. This has been a thorn in my side to find a good high fiber food. My discus are all adults. Suggestions PLEASE. Thanks.
My sister has had a beta and know that I found ur channel I feel so bad for him I’m going to get a beta to but I’ll feed it with tetra and won’t get multiple fish until I get more experience with being a fish owner :D
I found this video to be very informative, and it shows how a good variety of foods for your fish can be a good thing, Anyone with a fish room would certainly save money by purchasing the larger tubs but for the hobbyist with just a few tanks there are the much smaller options. Paul in the UK.
Great video, thank you for sharing! I’ll have to give the Tetra flakes a try. As you said, the cost doesn’t matter if they will not eat it. Northfin isn’t a “cheap” food, the ingredients look great, but my fish simply don’t like it. I look forward to part 2 of this video. Take care 😊🐠
I'm only feeding Tetra tropical flakes and Fluval Bug Bites. I also have some dried bloodworms and shrimp that I feed on the weekends.. I keep it simple. I work long days, and need to make it simple as possible when I get home. Thanks for sharing.
Hello, I really enjoyed watching your videos and I learn a lot from you. You are the most knowledgeable and honest creator of fish hobbyist videos! I am just a beginner with only one 36 gallons aquarium with platys. By the way, if you happen to know where I can purchase healthy, colorful platys online, please let me know. Be well and stay safe. John ( Jean-Pierre, I am a native Frenchman ! )
I tried feeding green beans and all my fish ignored. The snails took it down and the shrimps only looked at it once the green bean took in some water and grew a bit.
Wow what a video ! Very detailed. ..good fish need good and healthy food. .sometimes it costs a little more but your fishes are a lot more helthier (?is that write right? ).My fishes are so strong..and yes it is my proud to see them in that beautyful colours. ..thx for the video
Hi Jason, I enjoyed this video! It was also nice meeting you at Aquarium Adventures last weekend. I was surprised that Northfin and Piscine Mysis Pellets are not part of your arsenal .i was just curious if you had issues with these two brands? Anyways, thanks very much for sharing 👍.
Hey Denny! It was great meeting you too. I've generally just stuck with what works. I haven't tried the foods you've mentioned. With 60 tanks I have to balance cost and nutrition with what my fish will eat.
I came across a lady giving away a bucket of tetra koi pond sticks. Can I feed oscars and severums and angels this stuff? I couldn't pass it up, 3 of the 4.4lb buckets, but I don't have koi, just too many oscars in a 340gal, and they eat a lot, these fish are my safe space and we love them, if I can't use it I will find someone with a pond to give to
Well, I guess there are a couple ways to look at it. I think the stuff can be pretty messy to feed (I'm sure the Oscars will do there part on that as well). :-) Almost all of the main ingredients are some type of wheat, corn and flour - so for me I might take a pass on feeding a lot of it to my fish. Occasionally it won't hurt, I just wouldn't make it a staple.
Hi everyone and Primetime aquatics. Firstly thank you very much for sharing this wonderful video. As I am a complete newbie and just bought first few fish yesterday for my 70 litre Juwel primo tank aquarium which I had setup for nearly 1 year but had no fish till yesterday late evening/ night around 6pm- 8pm or so. The fish are very tiny 3 Rasbora fish and 2 tiny catfish or as some may call pleco fish. I was just wondering when would be appropriate to start feeding the fish? Any useful information about this would be very helpful/ useful. Thank you, Tom from UK.
Love this!! So informative and helpful. I don't think that clip does that size of you food freezer justice...thing was massive lol Awesome video, thanks for sharing!!
Hi could you please teach me how to feed my small fish. You gave great info for all your big fish but I like little fish and I want to know what is best for them. Like neons and other small fish under 1” to 1 1/2”. Also something for my baby ottocinclus. I love my little fish but I never know if I’m giving them too much or too little. Please let me know. Thanks a bunch. Alice Haydamach or Grandma
Just subscribed. Watched a couple of your videos and found them really informative. Love your work. Keep up the great work, you are helping newbies everywhere.
Jason, I've used Hikari before but notice that the ingredients - 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th ingredients are all terrestrial grains/plants - wheat flour, flaked corn, wheat starch -- and also uses artificial color (red #3). Have been trying to use foods without artificial color and less, if any, terrestrial plant material as filler. Great video!
I would love to hear if you see any noticeable difference breeding or longevity after the switch. I haven't yet, but that could just be based on the fish I've been keeping.
Purchased a reef butterfly fish 2 weeks ago, would not eat any frozen or flake. Lfs recommended clam on the half shell and he/ she finally ate. Will the fish ever eat anything else or is it going to be clam? Tia Dave
Sir my betta won’t eat anything except frozen food and freeze dried food ik they aren’t good for him to feed everyday plus it’s expensive and I recently purchased a very high quality food for it but it is not eating it any tips
I got a can of the Omega one flakes they didn't care for it so I mixed it with the other flake they eat it all just a tip 😉 sorry I don't wate till the end to commit 🥴
Right now we are feeding exclusively North Fin prepared food along with blood worms and frozen brine shrimp. The blood parrot might like small floating pellets and your neons flake food. Should satisfy both their needs. Look for a food that has fish or shrimp components as the first ingredients and you should be good.
Great video!! I am new to fish keeping and am learning as I go. I started out with a betta the beginning of this year. I now have 7 tanks and have enjoyed adding different species of fish to my tanks. I too use the tetra flakes and have had good luck with them. I use rapashy and bloodworms. I recently purchased 3 figure 8 puffers. I buy frozen silversides, Krill and shrimp. I am going to see if I can start some snails breeding so that I have a supply for them to eat. My LFS told me they were freshwater fish. Everything I have read says they are brackish. I started transitioning them over from fresh to brackish with my water changes. Thank you for your valuable information. Keep it up, I’m still learning. :)
i have food from TETRA MIN... flakes and crisp,s... my water is cloudy from the fish food... when i do a 75 % water change , the water is clear... when i feed them this tetra min stuff... CLOUDY WATER.. any suggestions... i have tetras , Tiger BARBS and Convicts in my 29 gal tank
@@PrimeTimeAquatics did you have cloudy water from the TETRA MIN flakes and crisp,s.. .My cloudy water is absolutely being caused by the food.. i think that their is a coloring agent in their food, and is causing the cloudy water... i will look for your brands that you recommend.. THANK YOU.
I love the Repashy foods! I keep it in glas yars in the freezer, lasts for months! And you can really mix the different kinds as you please. Smells a bit like... well, fishfood - but the fish absolutely love it!
@@PrimeTimeAquatics I will have a look for it, thank you. How about those floating pellets couldn't you use one of them in a small fish tank & let the smaller fish nibble on it?
May I tap your expertise? (I'm an experienced fish keeper.) Female Platy, has bulge on left rear of body, a vertical bulge. I'm thinking a benign tumor? Looks happy, active, eats well. Thoughts on what this could be? Thanks in advance for your help. Bob
Please can You help me? I have a 20g shrimp tank. I decided to add 10 CP danios into the tank soo i didnt have to find a place to giveaway the extra shrimp every 2 weeks (i got to the point of having like 300 shrimp in one tank). My problem is that danios eat ONLY the live baby neocaridina shrimp, never ever seen eaten flakefood or pellets. Is there some sollution to this? thank you
The only solution to that is to feed them live baby brine, but the problem in going to be the possibility of hydra growing in the tank and damaging your shrimp population.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics well I inherited my buddies koi he impulsively bought, he had it in a 50 gallon tank and it's about a foot long now. Obviously this is way way too small for the guy and I know he needs a pond but I'm in a temporary house. Should I get a large tank or should I buy like a 300 gallon stock pond and make an above ground pond ? All the options are extremely expensive though
i watched this video a long while ago, but i have a question if you see this and have time. About the Repashy -- if I have nano fish, can i just give them the powder instead of making a batch? Someone said they do that, but i was concerned about the gel in the Repashy in powdered form. Thank you very much!
Do you still stand by these products three years later? I've taken a look through the comments but can't see anyone in the last six months ask this. I got told by several respected companies that they wouldn't recommend Tetra branded food any more. They all more or less recommended JBL. We have various kinds of tetra and bristles plus cory.
I have 12 Black neon tetra and two macropodus in my 200l Aquarium the neons are a bit shy while eating often they don't get to the water surface because the macropodus are eating there i have flakes IT Looks Like the are prefer the Red flakes the don't eat the Green ones i don't want to Clean that mess every time is there something you can recommend to me (sorry for the spelling I am from Germany 😂)
That is actually somewhat common. I find the same thing, some of my fish don't like certain color flakes (different ingredients). Sometimes it's just a matter of changing the brand of flake food. Buy a small container and see if they start eating it?
My peppered corys wont eat anything, why? The small pellets fall to the bottom and they totally ignore it, keep diging for other things - i thought they eat everything? Its nutrifin max 40% protein fish meal micro pellet...
Fake sometimes fish will reject certain foods. If they continue to ignore it you could try switching foods, but buy a small container and see if it works.
Ocean nutrition discus flakes are a favorites for all my tropical sand fancy goldfish too. Mix it with omega one veggie flakes and then use repeshy gel food and frozen blood worms and brine shrimp along with steamed peas for good digestion. Fish eat well.
Ok i have a question, i own a 4 inch goldfish and I’m wondering does it matter if i feed him tetramin granulas, or should I opt for the flakes? He will eat both.
Hello Jason great video, do you have an opinion if flakes or pellets are better for peacock's or haps.I have heard that pellets are easier to digest for them, but is that true?
I feed my tetras chiclid flakes, basically all chiclid foods are what my tetras have to eat. The tetras are mixed in with chiclids so that's what it is. No issues.
I don't like fish food, I prefer prime rib. 😂😂😂 But seriously, great video! I don't have a huge tank or a room full of tanks so I just have 4 staple foods, flakes, bloodworms, algae wafers and bottom feeder pellet food. I seem to have good results with that. 🍽🐟
Hi everyone, can someone explain what different between cichlid food and tropical food ? And why they make 2 different food but ingredients looks like the same? Thanks 🙏
So many great options out there! My African cichlids seem to do great on Ron's cichlid, Sera and some mysis and brine shrimp. I would like to try some of the cobalt flakes as well.
It never did in mine, but I have limited experience keeping Goldfish and wouldn't discount what others have said if they have kept them for a long time. If I were keeping them again I would probably just feed them sinking pellets to avoid any potential issues.
What would be the disadvantage of feeding general community tank fish a more high in protein rich tropical granule. Was told at a store it is very good but have a feeling the proteins in it might be too high. Note...I'm very new to fishkeeping. And still learning to feed fish a variety.
Not sure if I should mention the brand, it mentions it is a PRIMA Granule for Discus and general midwater fish. Just don't want certain fish dying because I feed this to all my tropical fish. Do not have Discus yet, but have 9 tanks with different kinds of tropical fish.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thanks for the reply and feedback. I'll keep.feeding the food I have then. Just don't want any fish to die because of the wrong food they eat.

Sure
Cool! Once you get the snails going they really take off. : -)
have you tried the north fin algae waffers ? I recently have my pleco and snail and even a cory female will leave nothing
I haven't tried them just because the Omega Ones have been working so well.
What you think is best for gut health frozen food wise ? To help keep it clean and Moving ?
Brine shrimp
Xtreme nano pellets are my favorite.
i have food from TETRA MIN... flakes and crisp,s... my water is cloudy from the fish food... when i do a 75 % water change , the water is clear... when i feed them this tetra min stuff... CLOUDY WATER.. any suggestions... i have tetras , Tiger BARBS and Convicts in my 29 gal tank
We feed Northfin Flake and Pellet food now - no cloudy water at all.
THANK YOU.
How should I handle feeding our fish while away for vacation?!
Depends on how long. We usually don’t feed them if only gone for couple days. Beyond that someone will feed them every other day.
Good stuff. Thank you!!!
I am glad i found this video
what is the Best options for getting plants if my local fish shop doesnt have some in stock, seen seed on amazon But has Bad review
CHeck out Flip Aquatics. I just did a plant and fish unboxing from them and the plants looked good!
I use Hikari and Northfin for my African cichlids.
Awesome!
I love the Repashy foods! I keep it in glas yars in the freezer, lasts for months!
And you can really mix the different kinds as you please. Smells a bit like... well, fishfood - but the fish absolutely love it!
I mix it too sometimes! : -)
Video starts at 6:12 lol
How about how you prepare things like brine shrimp? Also can't you break down some of the larger foods for the smaller fish?
I have an older video about how to hatch live baby brine?
@@PrimeTimeAquatics I will have a look for it, thank you. How about those floating pellets couldn't you use one of them in a small fish tank & let the smaller fish nibble on it?
the tetra cichlid flakes is that good for mbuna only tank?
I have since switched to Northfin - community and cichlid. We did used to feed the tetra to mbuna though.
What is best food for guppies and mollies. I have 2 plecos
We've been feeding our Northfin Community flakes.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics
Thank you for your response
I will try the bbs and I will feed only small amounts to reduce posibility of hydra
Hi can u suggest me whether tetra cichild flakes is it suitable for Oscar fish
Mine ate them for a long time. As they grow they will begin to ignore them and require large pellets.
What's a good size tank for a 12inch fish ? 200 gallons of more ? Or is 100-150 a good option?
Depends on how active the fish is - if it's a pleco than a 125 or 150 gallon probably works. If it were a tinfoil barb I like an 8ft tank for them.
Any videos on dry food free of preservatives and colourants?
Here you go! ruclips.net/video/18zLyt4h-A8/видео.htmlsi=on5dzL_8gwnt2jcG
i watched this video a long while ago, but i have a question if you see this and have time. About the Repashy -- if I have nano fish, can i just give them the powder instead of making a batch? Someone said they do that, but i was concerned about the gel in the Repashy in powdered form. Thank you very much!
Absolutely! Stuff is great for tiny fry.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thank you so much!
Do you still stand by these products three years later? I've taken a look through the comments but can't see anyone in the last six months ask this. I got told by several respected companies that they wouldn't recommend Tetra branded food any more. They all more or less recommended JBL. We have various kinds of tetra and bristles plus cory.
We will sometimes use Tetra as a backup, but have since shifted all of our prepared foods to Northfin over the last couple years and much prefer that.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics I appreciate the response.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thank you
My peppered corys wont eat anything, why? The small pellets fall to the bottom and they totally ignore it, keep diging for other things - i thought they eat everything? Its nutrifin max 40% protein fish meal micro pellet...
Fake sometimes fish will reject certain foods. If they continue to ignore it you could try switching foods, but buy a small container and see if it works.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thanks mate ill give it a shot
My fish love San Francisco Bay frozen foods. My Geophagus especially love the spirulina brine shrimp.
I prefer feeding sinking foods to them.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Alright, it won’t affect his health in any way though right?
Hello Jason great video, do you have an opinion if flakes or pellets are better for peacock's or haps.I have heard that pellets are easier to digest for them, but is that true?
I use them both and don't notice a difference. The pellets tend to foul up the water a little more, but are still good.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thanks for the information.
I feed my tetras chiclid flakes, basically all chiclid foods are what my tetras have to eat. The tetras are mixed in with chiclids so that's what it is. No issues.
So many good choices for food! Can't wait to try those algae wafers from Omega one.
I think you will like them!
A Gamer's Wife they are the best
I was so happy to see that you had a video on this because I knew I could learn valid knowledge from watching it.
That's a great selection. 😃
Hi everyone, can someone explain what different between cichlid food and tropical food ? And why they make 2 different food but ingredients looks like the same? Thanks 🙏
It usually has to do with the percentages of what's in the food. Often cichlid food (at least for mbunas) have a higher algae/veggie concentration.
I like repashy. Doesn't stay in the tank for long. Cories really like it. Omega one goldfish pellets are good too.
My fish attack it too!
So many great options out there! My African cichlids seem to do great on Ron's cichlid, Sera and some mysis and brine shrimp. I would like to try some of the cobalt flakes as well.
Does feeding goldfish floating food really cause swim bladder disease ?
It never did in mine, but I have limited experience keeping Goldfish and wouldn't discount what others have said if they have kept them for a long time. If I were keeping them again I would probably just feed them sinking pellets to avoid any potential issues.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thank you so much for answering.
For a general community tank it can be ok. Some fish have an easier time digesting food with a higher fiber concentration though.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thanks for the reply and feedback. I'll keep.feeding the food I have then. Just don't want any fish to die because of the wrong food they eat.
Since Bettas have swim bladder problems, I just throw in 1 blood worm a couple times a day. More like how they'd find food in the wild.
I know people who chop them up into smaller pieces as well
Does dry pellets need to be kept in the fridge
I do if I have more than a couple weeks supply (or freezer).
Good God what a beard. Best in class!
Thank you :-)
