A Vintage Shop Owner’s House Surrounded by Greenery
This is the home of a store owner selling old Japanese furniture. A pottery studio is also located on the premises. The home was originally built in 1980 by the son of a prominent potter. It was badly damaged when he purchased it. He saw the potential of the building and renovated it according to his design in consultation with a carpenter. The ceiling was removed to reveal the structure, the walls were painted, the floors were replaced, and the metal sashes were replaced with old wooden windows. The space is composed only of items that meet his and his wife's aesthetic sense.
The wife keeps goats and rabbits. She likes to cook familiar seasonal foods the old-fashioned way. The rice cakes steamed on "kamado" (stove) transfer the aroma of the leaves. They watch over their son's healthy growth in this environment surrounded by nature.
