“Concert For Nuclear Disarmament “
The group High Noon with Joan Baez preceded these two sets. Mickey played drums, logical as the two were dating. Brent played a grand piano in the acoustic set and a few numbers in the electric portion. Jerry leaves during Lady Di, but returns later for the next set.
Matt Kelley on harp during the electric set
When did they break up,???
The venue was most unusual; an unheated Quonset hut style fairground building with the stage set on one side in the middle. It was small by Bay Area standards, a couple thousand people. The show wasn't really billed as the Dead but it was clear that at least most of the Dead would be there along with Joan.
I am very thankful for every Dead show I had the honor to attend. That said: Joan performed a rather long set and the crowd got a little impatient and rude. The sound was fine if you were in front of the stage but there was little space in front of the stage as it was on the side of a long narrow hall. The sound was far less than adequate at the two ends of the hall where the dancing areas were. The metal walls echoed, it was a cold evening, the floor was hard, The Dead's set was more of a first set than a second set. Baby Blue Encore @ 1:50:20 was most worthy. Overall, I would rate this as second behind Boreal Ridge as the least pleasant Dead show I attended. 😬 🌹😬💙
@@archstanton_live I didn't see them at Boreal, but had wanted to simply cuz I went skiing - night skiing, in fact, there as a kid; I think they played there on my b-day once, too. I am not a Joan fan, I woulda been miffed, LOL....
@@RicoSuave8 Not sure, but she was hanging around for the end of the year shows in Oakland. A few people were afraid she’d end up making more appearances during their sets at the New Years shows. I don’t think that relationship lasted too long.
fantastic
I almost skipped on this, but I’m happy I did not, what I needed without me knowing, wishing all here a merry Christmas, health, and peace ❤
Thanks Okie!!!

That first set was a doozy!
The Grateful Dead were the best pickup band. Cover songs? No problem.

Have you heard of Fukushima have u heard bob weir running nike sweatshop charging how much for a ticket.
For me, amazing to hear The Dead, Joan Baez and "Bye, bye love" all rolled into one. It's a fetish thing, I suppose.. Also the interesting process of a song changing from one originally proclaiming generatiional consciousness into another indicating intergenerational commodity.
Thanks a lot for sharing.
