    Effort seems like she was trying to lose that little girl. Such a shame such a beautiful baby strong and healthy too. Makes me sad. I hope zoo folk won’t let alika have her again. That has bothered me for days I was relieved to see the precious one is alive What’s going on with her mum??

      @beckyhodges4287 Thank you for watching my videos. Please be assured that Venus is absolutely fine and I have some very cute footage that I filmed yesterday, coming soon.
      I am going to put a video up soon that will explain things a little clearer than my answering individual questions, but I will try to answer your as best I can. Please know I am not an expert in primates and apes. My knowledge comes from watching videos, so I basically don't have much. All my answers are based on what I discussed with the Curator of Animals at London Zoo, the week following the first upload of the distressing videos (that were uploaded by a different channel to mine), and my own feelings and observations.
      I believe Effie does love her baby very much. However, she will never win mother of the year awards. She is very different from the other mother, Mjukuu. This baby is Effies second. Her first is Gernot, who lives with the troop. Apparently, Effie looked after him for around 4 to 6 weeks. Mjukuu decided to care for Gernot from then. She had Alika, who is a little older than Gernot. I have spoken to people who witnessed the actual event, and they don't believe Effie wanted to give Gernot up. Mjukuu comes from 'a line of very dominant females' as said by the Curator, and Effie is the least dominant, so she has to be careful. The zoo said it wasn't clear why it happened, but perhaps Effie wasn't producing enough milk. I have been told she followed Mjukuu and Gernot around constantly, and I do wonder if perhaps that is why she appears less interested in her baby than Mjukuu. That is just something I wonder. No one has confirmed or denied it, but please take it as just my pondering. It isn't a fact.
      The times I have observed Effie with Venus have been fine. She has always been very close to Venus, and Venus doesn't venture very far. I think this might be because of what happened with Alika because when I have been watching if Alima comes near them, Venus resembles the road runner cartoon, and scoots to mum very quickly, and Effie is also very alert to where Alika is.
      I hope this explains a bit. Effie has her baby all the time now (as far as I know), and she is the cutest little thing. I can't wait to put my new video up. I just need to learn how to do it on the laptop so that I can edit a bit better, so please be a little bit patient as I am very much a beginner.
      Once againthanlyou for watching. Please don't think you have to agree with my version of events, and only time will tell us what is what. Have a nice day.

    I can’t even watch the London zoo anymore it’s too heartbreaking to see what a poor momma is to that beautiful perfect little baby. She’s improved some but not enough in my opinion. Ck out kebi moyo and kunda from Cleveland zoo now that’s a loving mother.

      @Ape_Appreciation  Месяц назад

      @beckyhodges, I'm really sad that you feel that way. She isn't a bad mother at all. She has times where she is irritable but it isn't continuous. She has times where she is wonderful but that isn't continuous. It goes both ways. I haven't released anything apart for notice to release the video with Alika and Venus because I have so much going on and I've been trying to find research, papers on sibling behaviours before I do this.
      I understand how much you feel for Venus though and accept that I can't make everyone happy, although I wish I could!
      You take care and check in when you feel stronger. Take care Becky.

    🤦🏻‍♀️The way Effie peels off her clinging baby from its ventro-ventral grip.🥺 Thankfully the babies are getting older and stronger, but it has been a hair raising several months for Venus (Effie’s unwanted sweet adorable infant.) There’s simply no denying that a mother so rejecting of its baby to the point of leaving it alone and the mother drinking her own breast milk- created a nerve wracking, touch and go situation in the early months. At least it was just negligence, not purposeful harm, so at past 6 months of age things SHOULD calm down. No amount of condescending whitewashing changes these facts.

    I think I'd have to agree that Effie isn't going to win any mother of the year awards. That being said, baby Eff appears to be fine ( I'm no expert) she looks like she's developing well. Baby Kuu, yes is small. But she reminds me of Kunda a baby a Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Her mum is similar to Mjukuu and the hope is that once Kunda starts eating solids she'll fill out a bit more. Baby Kuu looks like she's reaching her gorilla milestones and we have to trust that the experts at the Zoo know what they're doing. 💖💖🦍

      Thank you for saying that. I have had a lot of comments today after two weeks of everyone being nice and enjoying the videos in one day I have had a lot of negative messages about the troop and I don't want that to be the purpose of thus channel. I know who Kunda is, and she is long and thin, and I actually talked about that with Tiegue the Curator on the 5th of August. The exact conversation about how they look like their mums and do have very different shapes. I'm not an expert, but I just trust what was discussed. Thank you for watching and being g OK and commenting , and I hope you stay and watch more. I have another video that I'm trying to edit a bit of 💩 out before I publish it, and I can't seem to do it. Why do you act like this Effie isn’t being tortured every day? Her mother is in every possible way and doesn’t care about her child in the slightest, everyone steals that poor baby’s food and when she try’s to cry they just fling her around the room or beat on her until she stops, she’s quite literally over 6 months old and has literally NO Muscle & No Fat on his body. It’s also disgusting that you try to hide the abuse and act like everything is fine. This is quite possibly the WORST ZOO I’ve ever witnessed, the place needs to be shut down and the baby needs to be relocated with an actual family that will love her.

      @Ape_Appreciation  2 месяца назад +3

      @cherryaguirredesamaniego8328 I know it can look that way. Effie is just a different character than Mjukuu. I truly believe she loves her baby as much as Mjukuu loves hers. The babies are also very different. I don't know much about what happened and I don't want arguments on here and there are different versions of events however Mjukuu has lost a baby in the past. Her babies are very small as she is quite slight as well. All I know/understand is the ba y was rolled on by a silverback that was new to the troop. We all marvel at how much lime us gorillas are, we'll if that's the case I'm fairly sure like most humans, the trauma of loosing a baby like that never leaves. I do wonder if that is why Mjuku is very possessive over her baby. Then when we watch them we are taking Mjukuus care for her baby as normal and Effie as not caring when quite possibly it could be that Effie is letting her baby grow and learn and have very important independence whereas Mjukuu is struggling to let her baby have independence because she is scared she might lose this baby as well. It's just a thought. I hope you enjoy watching them on my chanel and a subscribe amd like on my videos would mean alot to me. 😊

      @@Ape_Appreciation Well, we could all see that Alika stole and tortured Effie's baby for over 24 hrs and Effie didn't do much about it. Effie seems to be under Alika and I still see a danger from that. The baby is certainly traumatized from this treatment and it can't be ruled out that it will happen again. There are still organizations that know about gorillas and are critical of this. Let's hope for the best for the baby.

      @A.L.Gardner thank you for watching my video. I have a few more videos of this troop on my channel. If you like them please can I ask you to like and subscribe?
      The troop are based at London Zoo. Kiburi is the Silverback and mum is called Effie. There are two babies born three and a half weeks apart. This is Venus, born on the 13th February 2024. She has a half sister who was born on the 17th January called Juno.
      This link will take you to the London Zoo website where they announced the babies birth:
      www.londonzoo.org/zoo-stories/news/second-baby-gorilla-born
      Effie does appear uninterested in her baby a lot of the time which is heart breaking. There has been some controversy regarding the baby after her big sister Alika managed to take her from her mum and she was very rough with the baby. I did not post that video but I spoke to the Curator at the zoo the following week and he explained a lot about gorilla body language and why they believed the baby would be ok, which she was in the end. Some people are still worried which is understandable, and really only time will tell, but personally having seen her three times since the incident, she doesn't appear to have any physical injuries. She definitely watches for her big brother and sister and runs to mum if either come close, and Effie is always watching. I think she loves her baby, she just isn't attentive in the way Mjukuu is, but Venus appears to be growing strong, inquisitive and independent. Effie was hand raised and her first baby Gernot was taken by Mjukuu (who is the dominant female) at around 4 to 6 weeks. The keepers are not sure why, and there are different opinions about if Effie did or didn't want it to happen. So this is the first baby she has raised up to 6 months.
      Once again thank you for watching.

      @Ape_Appreciation yes, I read the comments to get an idea of the troop dynamics, it's always hard for a hand raised ape especially a low ranking one. • @Ape_Appreciation
      @Ape_Appreciation  2 месяца назад +1

      I went to the zoo and spoke with Gorilla experts. I am satisfied with their explanation regarding the issue. It is my right to decide that I don't want to continue the debate from someone else's video. If you have questions or concerns regarding what you see in any of my videos, I am happy to discuss it even if it's negative. I want people to discuss my videos because maybe someone hasn't understood what was happening at the time or the bigger picture. A two minute video doesn't give you the whole story. And if they still feel that way after a discussion, then that is OK.
      The owner of the previous channel has caused a massive scene and left people really upset, and continues to do it, but has comments turned off. That is cowardly, and yet I am getting it in the neck because I don’t want to discuss it!! That is really unfair to me. I dont want my channel to turn into a hate campaign towards London Zoo and it is getting really upsetting that I am getting abuse for wanting people to just enjoy watching these babies grow. I believe the zoo staff are far more knowledgeable than most of us and also think the gorillas know what they are doing far more than anyone else and they have managed the situation between themselves without needing intervention.
      This is getting to the point that I'm going to have to stop this channel because I don't want to continue to defend myself because I video gorillas that someone else videoed and caused major husteria and then was too scared to here the few people who disagreed. It would be funny if I wasn't so upset because she is the one posting the videos but doesn't want to discuss and has comments off, whereas I havnt caused any reason for people to be upset but I am the nasty one because I don't want to discuss it/take responsibility for a video I have nothing to do with!
      Venus has been fine in all my videos so far, and that is my start point for this video. I could speak for days about what the channel owner has done, but I just don't want to. You are more than welcome to continue to believe that Alika was trying to 'torture' Venus, but in my videos, she has not and she has been absolutely fine. Below is the contact details for the zoo.

      @@Ape_Appreciation Good idea, and I hope there won't be more negative comments in the future. I think we can witness some massive cognitive dissonance here, people who shared their concerns in the comments about the welfare of a baby gorilla and started acting collectively by bombarding the zoo with messages to save Venus were harshly abandoned by the video distributor when she stopped posting and shut the comment wall. But emotionally it's very difficult to admit and accept the fact that 'I was betrayed' - it's painful and frustrating, so some viewers just vent their frustration out on the only channel that is related to the event. I'm not sure if the baby was running towards mommy because of Alika, I think we could guess more precisely if we saw how the LE reacts to the others in the troop. Thank you for the footages!

      I will ask if I can, but since I met them a few weeks ago, I haven't come across anyone else who works there. I was told what Little Effies' name is, but it hasn't been released, and I don't want to put my foot in it and tell everyone when I shouldn't 🤷‍♀️. I'm annoyed that I didn't take notes! But my understanding is that they are nearly 100% sure on the gender of LE, less so with LM. Once they release the names I think the babies get entered into a European studbook/registry. They want to be sure of the babies sex as it's a hassle to change it later. I was told one of the most accurate ways to tell the gender is when the baby is climbing higher (than the people watching), if the baby has a wee they can be fairly sure of the babies sex. Apparently the boys wee comes from a different place than the girls wee! Sorry, this explanation is in layman's terms but that is how I understood what the Curator told me. If anyone knows better or if I have misunderstood please let us know! It's onvious to us that LE has been able to wonder away from mum more than LM who is lucky to get three steps away from mum before she is yanked back by mum 😂. So the keepers have not or hadn't when I was told this been able to observe LM have a wee away from Mjukuu.

      @@Ape_Appreciation Thank you for your detailed answer. I understand that the keepers want to make sure first about the sex of the babies - especially after the awkward case of Sully, the Columbus Zoo gorilla, who was believed male until she gave birth to a healthy baby! Anyway, lots of names, especially a few Swahili ones don't necessary refer to the sex of the holder, Mjukuu, for example means only "grandchild" without revealing the gender. So maybe it's the safest to choose a sex-neutral name for them to avoid embarrassment. They could even offer Banksy the chance to choose a name for one of the babies, now that the zoo received such a lovely graffiti from him! 😂 The wee-watching method sounds sensible, although not always feasible! 🤣

      @@latralla4577that would be a good idea! As far as I am aware they both have names. I don't know if they are definite though. Why don't you suggest that idea to the press Office. I think it is a good idea.

      I received an email.ail today from the zoo. Both babies names have been released.
      Little Effie is called Venus and Little Mjukui is Juno. Both are though to be girls 🥳

      @@Ape_Appreciation Oh, great!!! Thank you for sharing the info! 🥰I've checked an international studbook, in London Zoo there was a gorilla named Venus long time ago (date of death: 1904!). Little Venus deserves her name, she's exceptionally beautiful! Juno is a wonderful name for the other baby, I love that! 🦍🎆
