My bathroom is so small and is always cluttered and messy. Today I finally purged so much stuff and took one step closer towards my "Minimalist in Training" agenda.
I love using a tray system to organize makeup and these acrylic makeup organizers work perfect for this type of system.
I finally started using a pill organizer for my vitamins and I am saving SO MUCH space now in my medicine cabinet!
I purged an entire garbage bag from this bathroom today and I couldn't be happier. Stay tuned to more purging and organizing videos coming soon.

You can donate used makeup to funeral homes. That's what I do since they don't need to worry about transferring bacteria and you don't have to feel as guilty about tossing makeup!

mandyr1980 what a GREAT idea!!! Ugh...it's been killing me trying to think of how to "safely/ethically" dispose of makeup that can't be donated instead of simply tossing it in the trash and straining the environment with even more waste.

If I get a face cream that I end up not liking, I use it elsewhere instead. My face hates creams that are too heavy, so rather than have them sit in my cabinet, I use them as hand creams, or foot creams. They get used up really quickly and I don't have to throw them away. Thanks for such a great video.

I think so much of what we see in the media is so far away from real life that it makes us feel inadequate because we are comparing ourselves to a fantasy. • @voodle48
      @voodle48 7 лет назад +4

Kaz Hanlon honestly Kaz I didn't have a set system. I just knew I couldn't live with the stuff anymore. I think I started in the kitchen then lounge room. I do the bathroom regularly anyway. It just kind of snow balled! i did my laundry again on Monday. We are also renovating so organizing systems are not 100%throughout my house. I think purging is a continual war to be waged against😅😅

Cass, I love your channel so much. I was sooooo tired of these perfect organized women telling me how to organize and clean...and it just wasn't happening. I felt I could never live up to their regimes. Then comes YOU! I love how you freely admit you hate cleaning (because I certainly do) and for years I felt that there was something wrong with me. Truly my house is a vortex of chaos. It eats everything. And its never seen again. Until 2 years later. When you don't need it anymore. You inspire me to take on this challenge and this time....I think I can do it. I can tame the beast. I love your candor, I love your humor. I would invite you to my house--but I really think you would run away screaming. But thank you. And carry on.

Will add here another reason why I believe a declutter, pulling everything out, is needed on at least an annual basis. For me at least, I become blind to the things I have. A bathroom looks messy or cluttered but if I can remove a garbage bag full... then I've been kidding myself. I did my bathroom about a week ago so I know exactly. I've been looking "around" the stuff I don't use or need. So pulling the stuff out of context makes it easier to see. It's like a mark on the wall. At first it annoys me that I haven't fixed it. But after a few weeks or months I only see it when visitors pop over. 🕊🦉🇦🇺

I find that I feel better wearing a little makeup, but I don't *love* makeup, so as a busy mom who needs to get ready super quick, I bought a large makeup bag, and I put everything in there - my everyday makeup, my deodorant, hair straightener, a toothbrush, toothpaste, hair brush and dry shampoo, tweezers, etc and have that as my "go bag" which I can bring downstairs with me so I can get ready while the children eat breakfast or play. Since I have all the important stuff in this one bag, I realized I could just get rid of everything else because I was literally never using it. It was so freeing!

Yes! The clutter I pointedly ignore, is being examined today. I will have floor space to reach all my cabinets. Thank you. I hadn't considered the cost of guilt keeping. I also have hashimotos hypothyroidism, I tried that pill box idea...but my ADHD gets in the way of me self managing the vitamins weekly.
I also love the blackboard vinyl, I can hide my nag notes to myself, instead of post it notes.
Okay! I followed your show today, posted it on FB with a goal for the day. I did it! My daughter and I decluttered over 100 items, and moved 5 things to their appropriate rooms! Woot! Woot!

Wow, great job purging your bathroom! That's a ton of stuff. I, too, am a goo collector. I had a bunch of mostly empty bottles of shampoo cluttering my shower, and one day I decided to just mix them all together. Sounds weird, but it worked fine. Now my husband and I have one shampoo and one conditioner like civilized adults :p Makeup is the area where I still have a large collection, but I let it be. It's something I love and enjoy experimenting with, so I have the majority of my collection organized by type of product in a closet, and then a very pared down collection of what I'm currently wearing on a daily basis that I keep on the counter. I like to swap things out, so it works for me!

This came at the perfect time! Just started working on my bathroom. And what you say about wasting is exactly how i feel. And why my bathroom is 3/4 full of things i don't use. Thanks for inspiring me to get rid of it!

I have been so excited to see this! I started purging the other day, starting with mine and my husbands office. I chose to go with doing a 24 item toss (my hubby and i got married on the 24th of June...) and I am loving seeing my donation box fill up!

I just decluttered my one and ONLY bathroom in my house. It was hard to part with some stuff knowing I just "might" need it someday, but I remind myself that I share the space with 4 other people. I understand how it is with the vitamins, I have celiac and the struggle for body nourishment is real. I like your idea using the small acrylic trays segregating the makeup items. I should try that. I might actually use it them if I see it there, instead of stuffed away in a makeup bag. Thanks you for the helpful video! have a great day😊!

I've been purging too, yesterday I filled my car up with stuff and made a few dollars at Platos Closet then a major drop off at the Goodwill. My make-up is the bathroom under the sink too and it's been just fine.

So I just had to come back to this video and thank you for the tips. I love all your videos, but what you said about expensive makeup really hit home. I have purged and organized my home several times in the past couple years but would never touch my (enormous) makeup collection. Before I had kids, I was obsessed with makeup and had a HUGE stash. I had invested so much time & money into this that it was hard to let go. But after stewing on your comments in this video for a few weeks, I finally went though and purged yesterday. A bunch of it went in the trash, but I had a TON of powder eyeshadows and blushes, bronzers, etc that could be sanitized. So I literally took about 40 pounds (!!) of makeup out and posted it on my local garage sale site for free, and now it's gone. What I kept would fit in a shoebox and it feels great! So thank you!

I put all my vitamins in quart freezer bags. I label them on the top of the bag with name and expiration date. They maximize the space in a rectangle storage bin and its neat and tidy. I use a pill case daily and fill it up from the storage bags when needed.

This is so me w/ the lotions, sprays. Smelled good in the store, not so much now. But, felt I had to hang on to it. Same with makeup. On another note, I saw on a website, someone taped wrapping paper to one side of dollar tree poster board, took out the shelves in the med cabinet and put the 'backsplash' at the back before putting shelves back in. I did it. It looks great. Might work for you. TFS

Hi:) Love your videos! You are so much fun to watch with your sparkly personality and cool systems! I feel you. Alot! I am a "lazy" minimalist too.. I don't know what came first: lazyness or beeing a minimalist, but it goes hand in hand. You will have more free time when owning less stuff, and more time to do what matters in life. Before going minimal in makeup and clothes I didn't know how to dress or how to put makeup on, because I felt overwhelmed. Now I just put on the first ting I see (every piece of clothing goes together) and throw on my makeup in the morning (I only have one ting of each and buy new when empty) and all my makeup fits in one tiny drawer along with my vitamins. So easy!! And yes: I'm now 10 times as productive and get things done because I don't waste time on the small things. Keep up the good work! I love to hear how this new lifestyle treats you;)

"Yoga-loving hippie that keeps three things!" I LOVED that!!! I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe! I feel the same way! I don't want to have clutter but with 3 kids, a hubs, and cats, I can't be 100% minimalist either. Loved what you did here! Great inspiration! I have to keep makeup under my sink, too! So no judgment from me!

Hey Cas! You're sooooo crazy! In such a good way!You make my spirits happy! I've always put my makeup in the bathroom too. I have such small living space. I'm enjoying the decluttering this month. I've collected to much stuff over the years and have what you call somewhat of a separation anxiety thingy going on . Not wanting to let go of things. You inspired me all the time and I want to thank you for it.

I will be using your arguments with yourself when I clean out my bathroom. Thanks for the lines I will use to get myself to toss all the crap. My old house was burglarized 1 1/2yrs ago and I am still dealing. Makes it hard to throw out stuff. This house is much smaller, but I only worry about my end. My Millenial son has master bedroom & bath that I never enter. I have a smaller bedroom and bath. In between is a long living & dining room, tiny kitchen and laundry area. Son thinks my new hobby is rearranging kitchen cabinets. Working on it.
