DIY Bait Tank for CATFISHING - How to Keep Baitfish Alive at HOME

- I got frustrated having to spend hours getting bait before going out on the river catfishing so, I decided to keep my bait in my garage. This video is about my DIY Bait Tank that holds all my live bait for Catfishing.
I explain how the Homemade filter works along with aeration and water condition. This process took me a few months but, I now know and understand how these bait tanks work. For the first few months, I was castnetting and bringing home alot of good bait for the tank....Only for them to die a few days later. I didn't understand because I had properly conditioned the water by taking all the harmful chemicals out. There is alot more to it than that.
I learned how the tank needed good bacteria to start growing in it so that the fish could live properly. I learned how potent amonia is for fish and how they produce it.
This video is more or less showing my own setup but, if you have any questions, I am happy to help.

@@CatfishKC You are so welcome!
From emporia just finding you lol
Hey Nate from Emporia!! Thanks for watching!!
Perch and rock bass? Am I missing something here?
Sorry.... Blue gill, Green sunfish etc etc...
One of my main issues is fish jumping out, thinking I'll build a screen. Also I'm from KCMO
Hey!! Nice to hear from a local!! I built a different design a few months back with a tote and it a smaller opening on the top. I didn't have too many jumpers with this design but, it's nice to have. I remember adding around 25 large green sunfish to this tank and I woke up to at least 10 on the garage floor. Building a screen top might be a good idea for you
Sorry to be so offtopic but does anyone know a trick to get back into an instagram account??
I stupidly forgot my password. I appreciate any tips you can give me
@Frederick Shawn Instablaster :)
Crappie is considered a game fish in MANY states. In most of these states, you can't keep game fish for bait. Maybe it's different where you live.
Yep it's legal here and alot of places... unfortunately one of my friends is the game warden LOL. So, I have asked him every question in the book that are a little unclear. You weren't always allowed to use crappie and bass here in Kansas but now you can. There are still restrictions that come with it
You call blue Gill perch? What do you call yellow perch?
Gill hahaha
Just kidding. We grew up talking a certain way and it's hard to not talk that way on camera. We understand the difference and us here at Catfish KC are trying our best to be more accurate 🤣
Those are green sunfish not rock bass
Those looked like bluegill to me not perch?
Haha. Oh no... Not the perch vs bluegill debate. It's a bad habit and I guess that's what we called them growing up. You are right 😅😅.. Thanks for Subscribing !!!
Bass?? Probably not legal...depends I guess
Those are green sunfish bud not rock bass
@@stevefowler2849 I know if you are cast netting, you aren't allowed to keep crappie, bass etc... But they can be used if caught on a pole. I might be wrong and I know the law changed to where you can use crappie and bass as bait, but there is that rule that it has to be caught on a pole. I personally don't really use bass as bait. I do like to use crappie if I can catch them. I just read the Kansas rules again to be sure. We mainly use shad and any species of perch. I do have some bass in the tank as pets though.
@@rossram571 Your right. I need to change my lingo on the channel. Appreciate your feedback man!!
Crappie and bass are illegal to use as bait. Bad ass setup tho
Thanks for the compliment but, you can use those as bait if they were caught on rod and reel. Not a cast net ... The law had changed. Thanks for checking us out!!
It depends on the state. You cannot use game fish as bait in Missouri but you can in other states as long as it is a legal catch caught on hook and line.
But the black bass that he had was definitely not 15 inches and should not have been kept.
@@raptorshawn You shouldn't go FULL RUHTARD
