Remesh has always been one of my favorite modifiers. Essentailly as it was described to me at first from someone on CGCookie, is that it sprays a weblike mesh from all directions in a almost spiderman like fashion to wrap around your current mesh. The placement of the webs becomes the new topology. I also like it for it's blocks mode which will convert your mesh into a 8-bit voxel, minecrafty, sort of look.
I have this "problem" since I started with blender.I did follow your tutorial with a Japanese letter svg import, and it worked great. Blender teamwork is priceless, thank you very much for share!
Oh my gosh, THANK YOU! I have been trying to understand how to fix this but being such a n00b with 3D and Blender, I couldn't work it out. Button bashing was not working. Was literally about to model everything from scratch uggggh. You are a legend and I REALLY appreciate you right now.
FINNALY!!! Now i can use Blender for my project. I was using Photoshop for my letterings with great result yes but blender opens more opportunities to work with. Thank you
Your technique isn't working for me. I have to turn the octree depth to too high of a value in order for the text to be complete again but at that depth the geometry becomes too dense. And at an octree depth of 7, my mesh is still in pieces.
Thanks for another great tutorial man! i'm looking for a way to properly map extruded text in Blender. I'd love to see a tutorial on this. This remapping does seem to be very helpful
Most of the time you don't need to convert the text to a mesh, just change the extrude property on the text geometry and use the remesh modifier, IMHO you get better results and you can change the text if you want.
And 4 years later... thanks for this tip! Using this, I still achieved beautiful looking text while keeping it as text, very helpful when you aren't ready to commit text to mesh yet! And if you are using weird fonts, playing with the remesh settings helps to find what works for that font type. Thanks again!
This is 4 years after you published that video, for which I am very grateful! Now, in 3.6, when trying to do to the text what you describe, I am of course facing a bit of a change here. At 1:31, where you change the Viewport Display to wireframe, you also activate a "All Edges" option. This option is no longer available in Blender 3.6. Or do I have to activate a plugin?
Genius I've been trying to figure out how to remesh the text...with Quad Remesher I've been needing like 200,000 quads to make a text that looks as good as the original 😀'thanks!
You're also can use Decimate modifier to do it. Select text - Add modifier - Decimate - Planar - Limit angle at 5° is enough, but you can adjust limit angle for get different result.
Я очень долго искал это решение. Топология текста, реально, большая проблема. Спасибо!!! Очень много полезного и интересного узнаю в ваших уроках. Успехов вам! Здоровья и счастья!!!
Is there a way to do this with typographic logo's too? I would figure it works the same since it's an svg converted to a mesh but it doesn't respond to it
Nate: i'm trying to chisle letters into a stone slab. BUT I want the sides of each letter to be "chiseled" (not vertical), so that there's a vee where the font sides meet. IOW each letter front face is normal, tapering to a vee shape on back face. Any ideas? Thanks for your work. Alan
Multiple ways of doing this. Add a bevel to the back side and use a boolean to cut it into the slab. Or you could do it in edit mode by adding a loop cut and pulling it out then use a boolean. Be careful with booleans though because they create ngons
lost protonbender That’s not the point of the tutorial, the point of the tutorial is to add even topology on text so you can do things like sculpt or displace it well
Is there a good process to get the poly back down? My text didn't work until Octree depth 9, and Scale at 0.9 still. So, it's pretty vert heavy. Is there simple steps to getting it down after besides hand retopo?

Thank you! I watched so many text tutorials, and none of them covered remesh. This was exactly what I needed.

I have watched a few videos on doing this and yours is by far the best in both content and method. Saved me a ton of time !
Oh my gosh, THANK YOU! I have been trying to understand how to fix this but being such a n00b with 3D and Blender, I couldn't work it out. Button bashing was not working. Was literally about to model everything from scratch uggggh. You are a legend and I REALLY appreciate you right now.
Thank you! I just started Blender and it just hits me that investing in a Good Topology is a really good idea and a time saver
I have been two hours wasting time following another tutorial, and yours fixed my problem in a minute
This might help a noob (like me), if you apply remesh before applying Solidifying, it will vanish. So, apply solidify first. Great video Ducky!
Thankyou so much, 3 years later and this was exactly what I have been searching for text to mesh.
Most beautiful topology I've ever seen on text!!
I love you! there´s so many tutorials of 25 minutes with other ways... this is so direct.
I was looking for a completely different video, but I'm so glad I accidentally found this.
I stumbled upon this video looking for something else but it was something I needed to know. I have a project to redo!!! Thank you so much.
I really wish if I had come across this video in 2016 (although the video is from 2018) so simple yet so useful!!!
Thank u! That's my main concern with type in 3D, always a horrible topology. Thanks for this useful tip!
Jose Betancur no problem
how to add different materials in the text, like 1 material for the Text Face, Another material for the Bevel, another material for the Text Sides?
@@b1na276 just add another materials?
@@b1na276 look up assigning vertex groups on materials
Wish I knew that before! Thank you for this very useful tip.
Thank u man, u save my nervous system
2 days i was looking for ur video, thank u again
Extremely helpful and direct. Thank you very much!
thank you so much! this is the easiest explanation i found on this so far!
Thank you so much ! I actually abandoned a project because I just could't get around the horrible typology but now I picked i back up :)
God bless you Ducky !!! Almost gave up on my project
Ducky you're the man! Thank you !
Haha dude I love you, so many little things like this frustrate the crap out of newbies.
FINNALY!!! Now i can use Blender for my project. I was using Photoshop for my letterings with great result yes but blender opens more opportunities to work with. Thank you
Simple and objective! It helped a lot!
Thank you for that!
You are the man! Thank you once again as always!
thank you very much Ducky3D. very helpful
I needed this! Thanks very much :-)
Dude, I'm glad that found it. Thank you very much!
You are a life saver, thank you so much!
thanks so much, this will really help with some fast typography work!

Awesome tutorial. Thanks a lot!
Many thanks, I was struggling to get anything useful out of the text function!
Thanks Dude Helped Alot
Thank you! Saved my time! :D
Very cool, thank you man
Great tip!! Tks a lot! Greetings from Brazil!!
thanks so much i really struggled with this!

Thanks for this video. try add decimate modifier in bottom.stack if you wanna getting less polygon for text's front face
Thank you so, I've learnt something valuable
this video is a lifesaver, couldnt figure out how to bevel text for a 3d print STL, vertices were horrific
works like a charm even in blender 3.4 !
GREAT ONE BRO
amazing! so many thank you's!!!
Friend you saved me, great hint !
This is exactly what I have been looking for and you explained it perfectly - much appreciated!
Perfect. Can't wait to automate.
Thank you very much!

Need to try this method!
wow I actually applied the extrude and remesh modifiers BEFORE converting the text into mesh and it helped not to glitch! thank you!

Thanks, that's what I'm looking for~
Thank you for sharing.
0:40 You shouldn't have to retopologize for taking the easy route. It's ok.
I hate you.
I'm confused
😭
Nice one :D
still works in blender 3.5 , but you need to switch remesh into "sharp" from the remesh modifier tabs since by default it's on "voxel"
Same here 4.1
Thank you!

short and very useful
To view what is happening with the mesh (object mode) when you using modifiers. just go wireframe
Thank you so much
thank goodness i have been working on a intro for a while now and idk how i made my text to be so solid perfect 3 months ago :P
Finally a great tutorial with this theme, after all this crap tutorials i watched here on youtube.
very thanks bro 👍👍
To see the wireframe of this modifier you can actually just hit the wireframe render view in the top right next to solid and material render.
wooow that is easy man. thank for sharing.

My tip after experimenting a short while is to use "sharp" rather than blocks, smooth or voxel in the remesh mode.
Shift+Z's wireframe mode also shows the modified wireframe
nice
seems to screw up text with a beveled edge?
Yeah, it's helpful, thanks

Best one yet. Does this work for imported SVGs as well?
thank you

You can go into edit mode and use limited dissolve option if you want it cleaner and have no problem with ngons

REMESH MODIFIER PROBLEM = change the "mode" option in the modifier to "SHARP" to follow along with this tutorial, later.
Thanks a lot :D
Bro' You saved me SOME time !!!
For some reason, it isn't working for me. I have the newest version. It is different from the version in your video.
Tnx
Thanks!
Anthony Georgiou hope it helps
@@TheDucky3D It will! Although, maybe its because i didnt make a mesh out of the text but, hair particles work normal on the text(non topologized)
thaaaaaaaaanks

try Decimate modifer -> Planar
