- Today, we fix Blender's strange text faces. The default will sometimes cause glitches when modifying the text as an object. This should fix that right up! 😋

We usually ALWAYS use the "Auto Merge" feature! I didn't in this video, because I like to do things differently sometimes! :)
Auto Merge? What is this magic of which you speak, lol. Do a tutorial on this please :)
@@iamkrazashell3679 if you haven't found it yet, When in Edit mode, the Options drop down in the top right has an AutioMerge checkbox. enable that, then when you select a p[oint you want to merge with another, Press G twice, so G-G, and that vert will now move along the edge and you can slide it right to the point you want to merge with and once it's close enough, just let go and the point will merge and be gone!
@@DavesChaoticBrain My mind has been blown. Dude thanks for sharing that. Wow, this is great.
THANK YOU! This totally allowed me to fix some text in a model I received that I couldn't figure out.
OMG I'm still a beginner in Blender and this helped me with a job I'm working on, thank you!!
Kept forgetting about these modifiers. Thanks.
I love 'em! Glad to share!
this is the only tutorial I have found on this issue, thanks a lot!
This only works for simple fonts. Any script or curvy font, you text is mangled or you get a few million vertices per letter. Even decimating at that point deforms the text making it unusable. The only real option is still to do the remesh by hand.
As always Kai, PERFECT TIMING👌
( ^ ____ ^ )
Just came across this. Saved me from going insane after nearly 5 hours of trying to figure out how to make a nice grid
You are a lifesaver!! Great tip, thank you.
Very glad to help! :)
DUDE, you have no idea how many tutorials I watched. Crazy things out there. now one said anything about this "REMESH" and there are so many things to touch that I didnt event see the option eventhough I searched for any tool with name alike to my problem. THANX
In 2.79, I Remove Doubles before converting the text to mesh, then my remesh modify comes out perfectly. In 2.8 I think the equivalent of remove doubles is merge by distance.
I'm so happy you did this. When I tried to clean up text it took me forever and the disconnection thing was so annoying.
Haha! I hear that! :D
Just came from your png logo creation tips which really opened a lot of new possibilities for me! Your logo looks beautiful! You should extrude it too, with all the colors.
Now i know why i have so much trouble when working with bools. Thanks!
That's awesome, thanks!
I needed this video!!
Well here it is! :)
Or you can just
1. export your path to the mesh without extruding it.
2. And then use 'limited dissolve' and 'merge by distance' option which is in 'cleanup menu'
3. After that, you can use solidify modifier to solidify it but don't use extrude here.
4. You will get a nice geometry with none destructive method
Seems like you already know how to do this! :D Yup, that's another way to do it!
Limited dissolve, THANK YOU this cut my workload 10x. Convert to mesh, limited dissolve, merge by distance = clean topology ready for extrusion and bevel. And thanks Kai for the original tut. You know someone is desperate when they ready through comments for a solution.
Here is a tip that will take less time ( but is still a tedious process) just take the edges that are in the middle and dissolve them
Did this exact workflow a few weeks ago because I needed to bring text into Maya.
Nice!
Thanks dude, wonderful short little video
Thank you pal!
Not too bad. Thank you!
HEY KAI THANKS FOR THE VIDEO 🙏 MESSED UP BLENDER HAD ME NOW IM FEELING IT GOOD HAHA 😂
Awesome dude! Glad you got it all figured out! :)
Thanks kai, this is a wonderful trick
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it man!
I am using curved text and this is what i did:
1. Edit mode
2. Line selection
3. Circle select and selected all of the lines inside
4. Deleted lines and the faces left over
5. alt+left click the surround lines
6. Right click "New face from edges"
bro i was scrolling down in the serach result crossing my fingers to see a kai tut lmao
There is also an option to Automatically merge vertices moved to the same location. so you wont really need to go in edit mode and select the vertices and remove doubles. Anyway, I wouldnt recommend using the text tool in blender if you want to apply subdivision surface. To get it to look really great you have to spend hours to fix the topology and it takes about 5-10 mins to just remodel the text manually. You can use the text tool and make the actual text and then just add a plane in front of the text and just remodel it. Or you could even retopology the text and use shrinkwrap modifier, That way the text will look exactly the same but the topology will be x100 times better.
Yes. We've done thes auto merge feature many times on the channel. I like showing different ways to do things sometimes. The Text Tool costs money, no? I've seen it multiple times... but I like to promote free programs that ANYONE can use on my channel :)
Nice tut Kai, thanks. Now, how does one reduce/change the rear face so the letter looks like it was chisled? Tapering into a center line. Then boolean that letter into a sold block.
Looking for a result like the letters on a building that have slanted sides, like a vee.
This SOUNDS really neat, but is there a way that you could send me a pic of exactly what you mean? Just wanna make sure I fully understand what I'm picturing! :)
Really wish i had seen this tutorial earlier. I have gone too far in the project i am working on
Kai, in past versions of Blender, I would convert the text as you did but then immediately remove doubles. Wouldn't that resolve some issues before doing the retopo?
Totally. You could do that, but you'd still have to move the vertices to the position you'd want them in by hand. But all that is usually overkill :D
it's a bit of a combo...
I agree with removing doubles,
then remesh
then decimate,
and perhaps remesh again,
and remove doubles... again...
etc... until you get it right
It depends on which type of font you're using, and the amount of bevel etc. etc...
Removing doubles often is important, since there's a huge chance of getting faces on top of each other
And no harm in starting over again. Cleaning up the mesh by hand can take to long.
Oh and if you have a few rough edges... try selecting all vertices and hit "smooth vertex" a couple of times.
and finish it with subdivision surface, whipped cream and a cherry :-)
thank you love you
A good add-on would be to have several font types already converted to meshes cleanly, and just let's you grab letter by letter from an asset pack - with 10 or so different fonts. Cleaning up fonts is a real time killer.
thanks! you have a new subscriber
great tutorial
remesh is the only tri count reduction method that actually seems to work
Try selecting the whole mesh then hit delete > limited desolve.
Thank you so much-much ;)
Anytime anytime!
thx for this video
to merge vertex you can use auto merge too (they merge automaticaly when you grab un vertex on an other)
There's an option called auto merge, we do not have to merge manually.
Thank you Sir It Was Very Helpful video for Thank you sir 🙏🙏
I don't know if it's in Blender 2.8, but there is also a setting that makes it so that when you snap 2 vertexes onto each other, they merge automatically :)
Thanks for this video though, these stupid text meshes always skrewed me up when I was trying to engrave text for 3d printing.
Yup! That is a setting!
bro!, you can use 5 on a numpad to change perspective view to orthographic view, so you could get closer to the objects without them disappearing when you get too close, just tu hook you up, Anyway, the tutorial is excellent and I learned a lot, keep on blender, greetings from Argentina
Thanks! But, actually the period key zoom in on objects, allowing you to rotate around them specifically. That's always the best way to go :)
@@TutsByKai NICE!!!
update to blender 2.9 perhaps ? thx for sharing, have fun, aum, s love nia
When I go to modifier, add 'Remesh' it doesn't come up with any of that. It has 'Apply', 'Copy', then Mode: Voxel, block, smooth, sharp, then 'Voxel Size', 'Adaptivity', and a tick-box for 'Smooth Shading'. Nothing else. As soon as I try to mess with any of those settings, Blender freezes and my pretty powerful computer's fan starts to go into overdrive and sounds like it's about to explode.
Make sure Remesh is set to "Sharp" mode
but its not worked for bevel issues
why not selecting all vertices in a row, double tap g and then slide it over. repeat for all vertices you want do get rid of. at the end select all vertices and after that choose remove doubles
There's many ways to do something a Blender. This is just one of the ways.
Yeah, i was wondering about that too, would be much faster. What would be even better though is to just make the text without thickness and extrude it after you've cleaned the topology and you wouldn't have to deal with any of that manual cleanup work at all.
this is an interesting learning approach, but you would do much better if you select all of the polys and remove them with no level extrusion, then the edges, and by hand just fix a few points and then create the surface by hand. it takes longer, but this sampling might be good for a particle system explosion or cloth system, but not for model building where you will add to it.
everytime i try remesh pc crashes
thx
blender newbie, how do go back to being able to change the font, seemed to have lost that option
Yeah, I stressed that in the video. Once you convert it, you can't edit what it says :/
@@TutsByKai must have missed that part, thanks
Man, you are great! Thank you!
Thank YOU for the kind words :)
Sir one problem solve plz blender app plz sir
Just a short question. Are you a game developer?
Yes. But I haven't published a full game yet :D
Ahamahazihing!
This is totally offtopic but I’m curious as a non-native English speaker, why do you double the word “is” sometimes? Like you said “The problem with this IS IS that...”
Just me stuttering ;D Don't worry, my guy!
Is there a way to rid of all the verts
Well, if you get rid of all verts, you'll have no mesh o.o
@@TutsByKai I said it wrong, at the time I was at the Drs office and was being called in So i just posted and forgot about it.
What I was getting at was to get rid of all the extra verts added to the mesh, to take it down to just the needed amount to form the shape.
I was making blue prints and the verts are way to many.
Merge by Distance and Limited Dissolve is your best friend
Is there any way for it to not take 4 hours to clean up a mesh? LOL, this would take an unrealistic amount of time, unless you are charging $1 per hour.
Or you could do the remesh then decimate and maybe subsurf to finish off?
You could... but it might make the faces a bit strange and chaotic. The decimate feature really does decimate things :D
0:55 that's all I came for tnx :)
You're welcome!

Id like to NEVER go to this school where they teach you how to say "Go ahead".
Man it's a plague, takes me right out of the zone when I hear it. I'm gonna go ahead and go ahead and go ahead and go ahead and leave.
you just dissolve edge .
Maya retopo and remesh is way better I guess.
Eh. Maya costs a load, so I'd hope so.
You don't need this in cinema 4D
Yeah, but then you'll need $995 - $3,695 ;D
I would say have the text ALREADY made for the video next time. People coming here already know what the problem is, but you went through creating text anyway. Otherwise, good vid.
It's very concerning hot many tris you have in just the letter E
:o
Unfeasible
WTF did i just watch???
dafuq?? :D this is bullshit
