  • Speed limits of 20mph on residential roads in Wales could start going back up to 30mph by the end of this year, the country's government has said.
    Ministers have urged the public to have their say on which roads should be returned to the higher limit.

      I've got a radical idea. Why don't we all drive at half the speed limit say 50 down to 25 - 40 down to 20 - 30 to 15 etc. They would probably make some kind of adjustment to the speed camera's and fine us for going too slow....

      Drive everywhere at 5mph and no-one will be killed on the roads. It's crazy. How many lives would be saved on Motorways by lowering the limit to 30mph? The true answer, as it always was, is driving according to the conditions. I used to use a rural road that has Average Speed cameras along a 15-mile stretch, 50mph, but I only used it at 3am. Almost zero traffic, but I still had to crawl along, chug chug chug, because the cameras were still recording.

    We were told that the local authorities could set the limits on roads in their area when this came in? If so then if they set roads to 20 then and left a small percentage stil at 30 why would they change it? Our local council had the option to keep certain roads at 30 after complaints but refused. My take on it is that only certain main roads will change and the rest will stay at 20, so it's only a subtle change to please the masses and speed limits fines will be imposed more toughly. So it's a win/lose situation.

      The councils will also claim that there is no money to change the signs, even though they would "love to do so". That way, they can still impose their will against us whilst pretending to be on our side.

      @@martinf8508 Only a fool would fail to recognise it's a stealth tax on motorists by reducing the speed limit and putting up speed cameras to raise money. They have already done the research on the number of car owners per house hold. I personally know people who were engaged in this research.
      Next step is how to turn this knowledge into cash for the local governments by claiming/lying that they are protecting us from ourselves! 😂😂😂😂

    20mph around schools and certain roads yes, but not on main roads. People need to be more aware of cars when crossing roads and police need to catch idiot drivers.

    • @TonyMontana33452
      @TonyMontana33452 5 месяцев назад +1

      But that costs the council money. It's more financially rewarding to the council to just lower the speed to 20mph and put up speed cameras especially and strategically on hills/downward slopes where cars will inevitably pick up speed and then count the cash generated/stolen from the public!

    Although I am not convinced about implementation it would be interesting to see if in Wales, over the last year or so, injuries to pedestrians have changed. If they have reduced then a more considered approach where local authorities apply lower limits is justified. Central Government should provide guidance on road safety nationally but leave it to the locals to implement. I find it strange that nobody seems to have noticed the vast swathes of central London with 20 mph speed limits. Some of these have been in effect for over 20 years.

    • @joules531
      @joules531 5 месяцев назад +1

      Many pedestrians are killed or seriously injured because a car has mounted the pavement and hit them at 30. 20 would be safer. And thesis important because so many drivers are distracted when using their phones these days.

      @@DisleyDavid but central government also doesn't oppose it leaving cities and towns at the mercy of local labour councils run by criminal gangs who have decided to raise money by changing the speed limit from 30 mph to 20 mph whilst setting up speed traps. So while Wales may change to this "policy" nothing will change for the general public.
