I tried to be as calm as possible when I sing on stage though I feel nervous. I'm no good at singing but I feel the connection with audience. Thank you for this.

Thanks Dr Dan! this is vital for me. Bands hire me because of my singing but my stage presence is 80% anxiety :(
I try be as relaxed as a Master of Ceremony and I try, but it's so hard :/

Thank you - I really needed this video (and I've always felt that the advice to imagine the audience in their undies or worse was just nasty!) I'm trying to learn to channel outwards the joy I feel in the song so the audience can share it instead of my stress that I won't do the song justice.

Very thought provoking and Thank you. My question is a touch away from this topic, but still relevant. I am part of one worship team as a vocalist..-. but I am not a qualified singer. Before we start singing.-.I look around the congregation and share some smiles here and there. BUT once we start singing I follow the lyrics far ahead of us. I look away at times, but I very much look at the lyrics. I used to sing alto in the church choir for many years as a girl and I am used to having a folder in my hands and from time to time we would sing from the folder. But our eyes was both on the choir master and the book. I knew the songs, but this is how it was. MY QUESTION is this: is it a bad thing to do it similarly when I sing with the TEAM? I enjoy when the congregations sing their hearts out, and I can tell when they notice when my heart is in the singing too. Hope this makes sense:) As mentioned earlier from time to time I do have eye contacts with the congregation, the team members, but for the majority of time I check on the lyrics even if I know it off by heart. Do I leave a bad impression on the congregation?? Much appreciated 🙂, Maria

As long as your not avoiding eye contact...remember, we don't want to conduct a staring competition either. Try to engage the congregation as if you are in a conversation with them...a shared moment.

Thanks Dan, I know that I often try to not intimidate my audience, but I also struggle to really feel connected because those gazes can make me feel nervous. Wondering if you have heard of Dr. Joseph Stemple? He’s a voice therapist who uses Vocal Function Therapy.
