    How do you connect the Apple Watch for heart rate in the Peloton app with an iPad?

    • @JamesMontemagno
      @JamesMontemagno  3 года назад

      I use an app called HeartCast heartcast.app/ completely free. It has worked well for me.

    Hi James, I am having that exact same issue. I’ve been able to download the Fitness on my iPad 8 generation finally but whenever I start a workout it says “Looking for Apple Watch”. I followed the instructions you mentioned but still getting the same error. Tried contacting Apple support for 3 days now and they don’t have an answer. What generation iPad are you using and any suggestions what I should do? Thanks.

      I recommend logging out of everything on the iPad including iCloud, App Store, etc. and then re-login and reboot and try again.

    Can I ask do they do cardio classes? I know they do hiit but I refer cardio

    • @JamesMontemagno
      @JamesMontemagno  3 года назад +1

      so kind of... depends on what you are looking for. They do have HIIT like you aid and then also Core & Strength classes. They also have Treadmill walk/run, dance, yoga, and rowing. You can browse through the classes for free in the app.

    • @Ba1ster

      @@JamesMontemagno thanks for that. Strange they don’t have a class called cardio. I was doing FIIT before and they had cardio classes which ranged from 25 mins upward and they had also different difficulties

    Do you need to have an apple watch in order to use it on Apple TV?

  • @johnbreznau1352

    I am pretty sure you are not getting an accurate calorie burn count without built in cadence. Before i got a sensor with the Peloton app it showed significantly less calorie burn than when paired with cadence. When I switched to apple fitness same thing, much less calorie burn since it cannot do a calculation based on how many rpms.

    • @JamesMontemagno
      @JamesMontemagno  3 года назад

      I always think that they are kind of estimates. It is all about combining the heartrate monitor with peloton -> montemagno.com/indoor-cycling-stats-comparison-peloton-app-vs-apple-watch-fitness/ was my breakdown :)

    I'm looking at your comparison on the Scwinn and Sunny and the bikes can not be any more different, even though you "DIY" to make it similar... Having resistance numbers and just following along to the instructor makes it much easier. Magnetic resistance >>>>>>> pads, they feel much worse and you'll have to replace eventually.

    • @JamesMontemagno
      @JamesMontemagno  3 года назад

      Hey there! For sure they are quite different as I call out in the article that I wrote. Obviously, the biggest difference is the $550 up front that you would have to pay for the Schwinn bike. For resistance I haven't found the numbers to be important because I know the numbers based on the resistance of the pad that I put down. Even with a resistance display the numbers don't align with what peloton bikes have. You can do conversions here and there, but at the end of the day it won't be perfect. I do think it is nicer to have numbers for sure!
      On pads I don't mind the leather pad at all, and it feels fairly good with the 49lbs fly wheel. I mean I really bought the bike for the flywheel and it is lovely (although I know magnetic is smoother)! I did buy some 3-1 oil and a small brush like they recommend doing monthly maintenance. I am not sure how much the leather pad is to replace but reading online I haven't seen anyone have to replace it in the first year at least.
      Like anything you buy, if you are really into it and are going to do it every day for years you should invest so you don't have to upgrade over time. However, many people are in the position where they are just getting started and are looking to not have to break the bank and I think the DIY option is very nice for it :)

    I wish it would work with AirPlay so I can use it on a bigger screen so far dongle nor wireless AirPlay works people have been complaint about this since they released apple fitness and nothing was done not even a response to the complaints on multiple apple discussion boards some people don’t want to spend $150 on a Apple TV just to work out when there are quite a number of other apps that would let you AirPlay to a tv

    • @JamesMontemagno
      @JamesMontemagno  3 года назад

      Yeah, totally understand, pretty odd that they don't allow airplay at all. It seems like an oversight in my opinion.

    • @TheTommyCraft
      @TheTommyCraft 3 года назад

      AirPlay has always only worked to an tv, that isn’t new. To use AirPlay at all required an AppleTV. Now, modern TVs can have AirPlay built in to them, but that is only in the last 2 years. macOS 15 will enable AirPlay to a Mac, but unless you are referring to Chromecast or whatever Samsung calls their protocol, there is no other universal casting method on iOS devices. Also, of course Apple is going to require their tech, that shouldn’t have been a surprise to you at all.
      As a side note, there are no online discussion boards anywhere that Apple participates in. They do host a community, but it is 100% community/user driven; no apple staff participate in any official capacity anywhere and they never have. That’s why no one responded to any complaints, they are using the wrong method. If you want Apple to hear your voice you must use the Feedback tools in the various apps.

    Dude. Sucks so bad without Apple TV forth gen or later.
    iPhone 12 and AirPlay 2 on your big ass tv?? Not good enough. Need an Apple TV.

    Love fitness plus, but it’s intentionally crippled.

      Right now looks like United States, Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and United Kingdom. Apple always add more countries to their services. I assume they are going to localize the content, but who knows.

      No live classes in Apple Fitness+. They are only doing on demand currently. There isn't a leaderboard or anything like that, but everything is synced to your watch so your leaderboard is you vs your friends technically.
