@@trishameloling2367 not sure about from Garmin, but most heart rate monitors with blue tooth will connect to peloton app, only apple devices will display cadence, I use the wahoo cadence sensor for this on bikes that dont have cadence built in
Just a little insight from a Spinning instructor. Apple+ so far seems to be more aligned with the style of Spinning, rather than Peloton. The difference being without a resistance number, it can be tailored for beginners and experienced riders alike. Also the burn bar always reads at that level until it periodically “ranks” you. If you weren’t pedaling and sitting still, you would likely be “ranked” on the lower end as it goes by calories burned. If you’re riding for you, rather than competition Apple+ is pretty good for being so brand new.
I would like to thank the author of this video for the inspiration to finally do something I have wanted to do for a long, long time. After four years, 1100 rides, and spending $44 a month for a Peloton subscription, I finally canceled my account this morning after taking my first Apple Fitness+ cycle ride. As someone who is retired, I don't need to spend that kind of money on a bike membership. In fact, for almost $10 less a month, I now subscribe to Apple One Premier and share a whole handful of Apple services with 5 other members of my family. You can't beat that! I hooked up a 27" monitor I had lying around to Apple TV and put that in my workout room. Now, when I ride on my Peloton bike, I sync the Fitness+ ride to my watch and put my bike in JUST RIDE Mode. The Peloton still shows my cadence/resistance and calories burned while my heart rate and workout are displayed on the Fitness+ workout screen.
Thx for the video! I was able to connect my Apple Watch with the Peloton app but it was never a seamless connection as my workouts always missed a % of my HR. I wound up using the HR monitor, which came with the IC4 and running Kinetic on top of Peloton via my iPad split view. Personally, I love this set up as it gives you customized metrics, such as power, which makes the DIY setup as close to Peloton as possible...less the leaderboard. Sticking with Peloton, for now!
I love the peloton app, but I am certain apple+ will take over! This is the reason I didn’t purchase the peloton bike but purchased the schwinn AC performance plus carbon blue power so I can always cycle with any new options.
honestly, the fact that fitness+ has 9 different exorcises and just one of the exorcises are as good as the entire peloton app, and fitness+ is cheaper. I think this is one of the most amazing deals, not a reason to buy an iphone or ipad or apple tv if you weren't already looking at one but if you already have one then this is a no brained. I got it and am completely satisfied and daily i got a notification for a new class they just added and the fact that apple will automatically string workout suggestions for you to do next is a nice touch.
I did two rides with fitness plus cycling, and many rides with paleton I love it so much more than paleton 1,for one I love to compete so that bar is nice 2, I need to see the time count down And finally paleton instructors talks way too much , I do need to hear the music! Thank you for your review
Hey, I just wanted to say that I’ve really been enjoying your videos about cycling lately. I’m addicted to indoor cycling. I’ve gone to many different types of classes and just recently purchased a bike of my own for home! Super stoked. It’s the bowflex c6 (same as that schwinn bike). But it’s a 10 week wait. So I have been watching all your videos while I wait!
You missed a big price difference at the beginning. Apple is indeed $10 a month for a single user, but it offers an annual subscripting of only $79 and that price covers a household up to 6 people! This was a huge deal in swaying me over to Fitness+ since for me my wife it was costing us over $300 a year with Peloton Digital. That is a huge price difference any might be enough to sway many users/households like me.
Thanks for the review. I have all Apple products but I’ll continue to use Peloton app until Apple builds in a cadence sensor and has rides that matches it.
Did you know that as long as you pay for a Fitness + subscription you can do a class without even owning an Apple Watch. Currently using a Garmin Venu 2s with speed and cadence sensor connected and start an indoor ride when I hit the start button on the class
I have my peloton app connected to my Apple Watch and I love the metrics. I have been pleased with the variations and options of the rides and workouts. I just have a cheap stationary bike, but have been riding long enough to know how to increase my cadence and resistance to get the desired workout. I would recommend peloton for sure. Been using it since October 2020. 👍🏼 thanks for the compare video. I was curious if I should switch, but I think I have the best set up for me.
Very late comment but new to the channel and af+ is what got me to your channel bc I enjoyed it so much I want a bike in home. Wondering if you'd do an updated video since the app has grown so much.
Peleton looks cool but the continuing drop in share prices, a reduction in the cost of their bike plus subscription speaks volumes - its simply an expensive and risky investment, plus the bike without the monthly subscription fee renders.it pretty limited. Apple fitness plus really does look like the smarter choice despite any limitations. But history tells us this will rapidly get better and more affordable.
Thanks for the video. You can connect the Apple Watch to Peloton now but you have to use the iPhone Peloton app not the iPad. As of Jan 23rd 2021. If you want a bigger screen air play using Apple TV on tv.
This is a great overview video. I have had Peloton for 4 years now and love it, but it's just very expensive between the bike purchase and the $44 per month subscription. I would love to drop down to Apple Fitness and use it with my Peloton via Apple TV or an iPad. The problem is, as has been discussed, that you lose the cadence and resistance numbers as well as the instructor instructions that pertain to the Peloton bike. Would love to hear from people who actually switched from the Peloton ecosystem to using their bike with Apple Fitness and how it is working out for them.
I have the bike + and just recently switched over to apple fitness. I use an over the screen tablet holder and can still see all of the bike’s metrics below in “just ride mode”. It really feels no different than taking a peloton class. Nothing is taken away from the experience for me. I enjoy the burn bar much more on Apple fitness and find that I’m actually pushing myself harder on it than I was on peloton.
@@ECA-14 Thank you for this response -- and quite frankly, it was the response I had been hoping for. I love my Peloton bike but not the fact that I am locked into a $44 per month subscription with more potential price hikes on the way. Sure, one could say that for that price I am getting the benefits of a gym membership that might cost more. However, I am firmly locked into the Apple Ecosystem and have Apple One Family. It would only cost me $10 more a month to upgrade to Apple One Premier (I save with Verizon Wireless) and by doing that, I can cancel Peloton and save $34 a month. I would put a small TV in my Peloton room. I would connect Apple TV to the television and select my rides through Apple Fitness, keeping my cadence/calories/resistance displayed on my Peloton screen in "just ride mode" as you described above. And, I have an Apple Watch so that will keep track of my ride, calories burned, and activity goals. I was going to sell my Peloton for a cheaper bike and pocket the money. However, Peloton makes such a solid bike that it can easily be used with any other service. AM I MISSING ANYTHING HERE? LET ME KNOW. THANKS
Thanks for doing this video. I am starting my Apple Fitness + January 1st (have the 3 months fro the apple watch) and will see if after 3 months they add to it as well as if I still use it.
I haven’t been impressed with Apple so far, but it’s only a week old. I also haven’t really used it much since I haven’t even assembled my bike yet. I love the rings on screen though. I hate when I’m riding my regular bike and try to look at my watch to see what’s going on...I probably shouldn’t be doing that anyway, but I do.
I much prefer low key coaching and outdoor scenery to either Fitness+ or Peloton’s “urban warehouse” vibe and over-the-top hyper energy coaching. I still come away sweat-soaked but I get to see the world in the process 😉. The one thing that Fitness+ offered that I couldn’t do elsewhere - display stats on the iPad screen. Then Ana (in comments below) mentioned Blue Heart - I grabbed a copy of that app - now I can run BitGym with my heart rate onscreen. (BitGym calculates cadence using the camera in the iPad. It sounds hokey, but I’ve found it surprisingly accurate - never more than 1 0r 2 RPM from my old Schwinn recumbent.
Matt, I really appreciate this video. I have Apple products, so this will work out for me. It would be great to have that motivation to keep you going. My wife enjoys using her elliptical machine, so I would assume that fitness + have classes for her? Much mahalo!!
yes because thats what i use. Zwift with my road bike on a trainer.i figured it gets me a bigger bang for my buck as I can take my bike outside when the weather is nice for the same price or less of what a peloton bike costs.
You were high up on the burn bar because your heart rate was sitting at 110 from the start. You said you weren't pedalling, how was your heart rate so high?
Thanks for Very detailed analysis. How good do you think is the Peloton bike without Peloton app if we decide to use Apple Fitness on Peloton? I think That is biggest downside with Peloton that even after paying huge money for the bike, you are tide up to their app only.
The peloton app is actually running on android. By enabling developer mode you can install a different launcher, then load any app you want on the peloton screen. I know you typed your comment a long time ago and have no doubt made your decisions, my response was really for those, who like me, came across your comment at a later date. All the best.
I have had issues getting my Apple Watch to sync with my iPad, which is frustrating while using the Peloton App. I have bought into the Peloton app community, for me, it's worth the few extra dollars every month. Cycling is what they do, they really have an advantage with the experienced instructors, etc and leading classes. But the Apple classes might be right for others. As always, great job with your presentation.
The burn bar doesn’t show your position all the time. That was not your burn progress. A minute later when it hopped down to about 50%, that WAS your burn result. It only shows your actual burn bar progress a few times per ride.
Les Mills on demand is superior to them both in my opinion. Better music and energy, group instruction and feel. Excellent queuing and variety throughout the classes. I use the Les Mills app with a large screen TV with an apple box, and Bluetooth the sound to headphones cranked up loud. Works great with my IC4.
Peloton has a greater sense of community while also foster a competitive dynamic if you want it. While Apple Fitness plus has rowing to differentiate it, Peloton has pilates, meditation, and barre classes. Overall, Peloton is a better and more comprehensive workout app.
Could you perhaps do a review of the sound/music quality of each app (Echelon/Peloton/Apple) especially when paired to a good Bluetooth speaker system? I'm finding my Echelon fit app's sound quality quite lacking compared to (for example) RUclips spin music.
So if I have an echelon EX5 (non s model), what would your thoughts be on connecting my phone for free ride in their app (and to see /save stats) and then use the iPad at the same time for Apple Fitness +?
Apple. - All the way. $13 for Peloton bike only solution $10 for Apple’s entire workout solution (bike, rowing, weights, running, yoga, Hiit, Core, etc..) No comparison
Peloton is not bike only. Apple costs requires additional purchase of an Apple Watch. Apple is still new and working on fixing bugs and adding features. It also has an extremely limited number of classes so far. It will takes years to build out their library to be comparable to Peloton. Also, no live classes.
I used peloton for 2 years before switching to Apple and have been using it for 1 year. Apple is far more polished then Peloton. Instructors call out cadence numbers and you see your cadence on your spin bike monitor or if you don’t have that metrics you can match your legs with the instructors. Resistance is called out as rate of perceived exertion, rather then an ambiguous resistance number that is different for every bike. Apple instructors are actually cycling instructors not former dancers who were put on a bike to be eye candy.
Have you done a review of the Sunny Synergy I heard you mentioned on one of your other videos. I’m thinking of purchasing and would like for you to get credit for it. If not is there a way I can get your channel to get credit. I’m purchasing two bikes. You videos are great. Thanks
I haven't watched your video yet...I always start by reading your transcript first (by the way...they are one of my favorite aspects of your channel. I wish more content uploaders would publish transcript as well) Any case...according to the transcript..you are an android user & don't have an apple watch , so how did you make the video review of Apple Fitness plus ?
@@TailHappyTV I figured that out after I watched the video ! I heard her in the background! So what are you going to do with all the bikes ? Other than the Peloton are you going to keep any of them long term ?
@@TailHappyTV So which bike is about to be delivered? I personally used to ride Keiser M3s ($2000) at LA Fitness & Stages SC3($2500) at Golds, so never considered ever buying a home bike before COVID 19. Golds is open for outdoor workouts...but with the Spike in Socal, I have been hesitant to go ( I am primary care taker for my 86 yr old father & 78yr old mother , so I can't take the risks). So I might have to take the plunge soon & consider getting an at home bike...I believe you are somewhere in Socal/LA area so if you decide to unload in the future let us know. Does RUclips give you a way to Private Message someone?
Too much focus on the Apple side on this comparison. I wanted to get more info on Peloton as I’m considering going Android for 2021. Perhaps there was another video in your arsenal that went more into detail on Peloton that I haven’t discovered yet. One thing I would mention in an update to this video is my wife and I share Apple Fitness+ at no extra charge. Just set up family sharing. Not sure if Peloton has something similar.
i think they are on the Schwinn AC Power, a $3000 bike, the Schwinn IC4 is a good and popular cheaper alternative - ruclips.net/video/wIDaMlkKM_Q/видео.html (my official review)
We tackled assembling the bike as a family project. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxzg0clhbtRf2gGxPkVETFKJJKGqdsorQu The package is heavy, but I have 2 teen boys that were able to move it. The written instructions were great- we didn't need to watch the videos, but it was good knowing that the option was there if we needed it. After we were able to get it set up, the boys each rode 3 miles and I rode 8 and the bike stayed quiet. The display is easy to reset, and you can put it on whichever setting you are using (time, distance, calories, etc). I will say that my butt is a little sore from the seat, but that could be because I haven't rode in a while. While it is comfortable for me, it was not comfortable with the seat position for my friend (could not move the seat back far enough and he slightly looked like a kid riding a tricycle that he had outgrown). He also said that the seat hurt his manly parts. We are going to look for a different seat that will be compatible with this bike for him.I did purchase the Wahoo Cadence sensor and strapped it to the crank of one of the pedals. This will sync with my Apple Watch, iPhone and will import data in to my Health app. Wahoo does have other sensors available other than cadence. I can also keep either my phone or my iPad on the display and they both feel pretty secure.
I overall like Apple Fitness better (look, feel and more polished look and better price). When it comes to cycling not able to see cadence and no guidance for resistance kills the deal for me. Don’t think you can have a serious workout w/o being able to follow at least something. For casual and supplemental stuff maybe this finger in the wind approach is ok but for training don’t think so. Apple needs to support some other fitness devices beside apple watch.
lol. if anyone can afford another additional few hundreds bucks..just go with wahoo+zwift. at least wahoo gives you real, meaningful numbers.. like cadence, power etc...
Apple doesn't even seem to be trying to compete with Peloton. The variety of music for Fitness+ cycling classes is limited. Currently, Apple has a total of 46 classes available and are adding 4 per week. Peloton has about 7,000 classes available and are adding 8 per day or 64 per week.
Everyone has done this, but it is misleading. They show the subscription cost for Peloton vs Apple fitness +, but everyone seems to miss the minor detail that YOU MUST HAVE AN APPLE WATCH TO USE APPLE FITNESS plus. You have to take into account the cost of the watch with the apple fitness + subscription to make it apples to apples. Therefore Apple, as usual, is more expensive
He did mention that you need to have Apple Watch and either an iPad, iPhone, or Apple TV as a second screen. It’s for those already on the Apple ecosystem.
@@chris03661 yes he does, but he and like others, don’t point that out on the cost comparison. Everyone says fitness+ is cheaper than peloton and that simply isn’t true. It’s a point that should be made clear on the cost comparison slide. Still makes no sense that Apple won’t even let people trial without a watch. They are losing a huge potential of new subscription customers that simply have no interest in an Apple Watch. The Apple Watch lacks in many serious sport metrics like threshold, HRV, VO2 max for cycling, etc. Anyone who is serious about fitness is not happy about charging the watch every day.
@@puddleduck112 but don’t you also need to buy the equipment for peloton unless you just want the App? And the whole point of the Apple fitness+ requiring the Watch is so it can measure your stats. That’s where all the sensors are located. So it’s impossible to get a trial without the Watch unless you just want to follow the workouts which you can already do by watching it on RUclips. And for sure, they will be adding more stuff on this in the future updates.
VO2 support and higher ECG detection have been added to the new watchOS update. Also, it turns out you can use Apple fitness without a watch but then what’s the point if it won’t show your metrics because you don’t have Apple Watch. You still will be paying for subscription anyway.
Good video, but you start by saying "Fitness Plus VERSE Peloton". Forgive me, but the English teacher in me requires that I let you know that's incorrect. The abbreviation "vs." stands for the word VERSUS, not VERSE. A VERSE is a stanza in a poem. You mean VERSUS (two syllabus: Ver - Sus) which means a competition. Just sayin'...
A resting heartrate of 117 (you said you weren't pedaling and apparently just talking) is usually an indicator of being out of shape. So, it must be interpreting your heartrate as resting, since no pedaling was going on, and tilting you towards high-end to keep you form getting a heart attack! It's interesting how you can call this a review and not actually use the product in a real world context. Just saying a spin bike app usually requires you to, well spin on the bike. Maybe you were just nervous being on camera and all, its okay public speaking is the supposedly the number one fear.
@@TailHappyTV Fair enough, didn't read the liner notes, just watched the video. Both peloton and Apple are ecosystems, so it was fun to watch an android guy review two ecosystems that by their very nature go against all the android values. It was a very even-handed review so thanks.

What wheel size should I enter on WatchOS when connecting my Bowflex IC SEi to use Apple Fitness+? Thanks for your help 💁🏼♂️
I'm wondering if the music is better on the Apple app, the peloton music has been poor since they got sued from music industry
Peloton has a greater sense of community while also foster a competitive dynamic if you want it. While Apple Fitness plus has rowing to differentiate it, Peloton has pilates, meditation, and barre classes. Overall, Peloton is a better and more comprehensive workout app.
true on all accounts. apple is just getting started, it'll be interesting to see how they evolve fitness+
I call bs on the peloton community. It’s known as being very toxic on Facebook.
I’m new to the cycling game I love my Scwinn ic4 I’ve been using Zwift trial is up not sure which one I should go with
Could you perhaps do a review of the sound/music quality of each app (Echelon/Peloton/Apple) especially when paired to a good Bluetooth speaker system? I'm finding my Echelon fit app's sound quality quite lacking compared to (for example) RUclips spin music.
*you can run the Apple Watch Cycling app while using the peloton.
I was actually thinking I could do that, use Apple Fitness+ to change it up from my Peloton classes.
With a fitbit watch, android phone, but iPads and apple tv..it still looks like peleton or zwift
Should I be concerned that your hear rate is 110-120 even when you aren’t working out? Nice review as always btw!!
No he’s talking kinda fast and being focused, it’s high yes but it’s not too high considering how fast and how much he’s talking
Is the Apple Watch an absolute necessity even if I already have (all 3) an iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV.?
Yes, the watch serves as the heart rate monitor. I think you can still do them without but no data then
How did you sync your heart rate monitor to the app. Is it ant+ as well?
All I have is apple tv and ic4 would you suggest peloton or apple fitness plus
Peloton app is great, each are simply different styles so it’s really a personal preference thing, hope this helps dude
So if I have an echelon EX5 (non s model), what would your thoughts be on connecting my phone for free ride in their app (and to see /save stats) and then use the iPad at the same time for Apple Fitness +?
You borrowed an Apple Watch from a woman. It had her metrics there. You are crushing that class as Sabrina - that’s why
Apple. - All the way.
$13 for Peloton bike only solution
$10 for Apple’s entire workout solution (bike, rowing, weights, running, yoga, Hiit, Core, etc..)
No comparison
Apple instructors are actually cycling instructors not former dancers who were put on a bike to be eye candy.
does apple fitness require you to have apple music in order to have background music during workouts?
Not at all. They have the music preloaded to the workout!
@@KK7THK thank you!
The Apple Watch does work on Digital.
Have you done a review of the Sunny Synergy I heard you mentioned on one of your other videos. I’m thinking of purchasing and would like for you to get credit for it. If not is there a way I can get your channel to get credit. I’m purchasing two bikes. You videos are great. Thanks
I literally added the synergy to my cart and then canceled lol. I bought the ic4
@@JustBeYouTy I love the Synergy I will check out the IC4
I just ordered a Schwinn IC4, what size of Apple Ipad do you have? I just noticed in your video it was a good size for it.
It looks like the 12.9 iPad Pro
I haven't watched your video yet...I always start by reading your transcript first (by the way...they are one of my favorite aspects of your channel. I wish more content uploaders would publish transcript as well)
Any case...according to the transcript..you are an android user & don't have an apple watch , so how did you make the video review of Apple Fitness plus ?
Thanks Paul, Sabrina came home for the weekend and let me borrow all her apple stuff to test out the classes
@@TailHappyTV I figured that out after I watched the video ! I heard her in the background! So what are you going to do with all the bikes ? Other than the Peloton are you going to keep any of them long term ?
@@paulloren66 not sure, never thought I'd keep so many so long but I can't seem to let them go. Another one is arriving in the mail in a few hours.
@@TailHappyTV I’m submitting a link to your channel to the “Hoarders: Buried Alive” people.
Personally I like peloton better. Their instructors are better IMO and they have so many classes to choose from
Too much focus on the Apple side on this comparison. Not sure if Peloton has something similar.
peloton app vs all access: ruclips.net/video/8GJnxrNA8vg/видео.html
You realize that your Apple Watch works on pelotons app for heart rate too right? You don’t need the arm sensor.
i think i did that because i was running two apps at once, i forget
What bikes are the Fitness+ instructors using?
i think they are on the Schwinn AC Power, a $3000 bike, the Schwinn IC4 is a good and popular cheaper alternative - ruclips.net/video/wIDaMlkKM_Q/видео.html (my official review)
Burn bar fail lol. Btw I have the Schwann IC4 and love it.
Nice, great bike. And yeah... not sure on that burnbar yet lol
Great video
Cadence doesn't work for Android wahoo rpm sensors
Spin bikes are all over the place. Better to use a smart trainer.
do a soulcycle bike review
On my list
@@TailHappyTV this is one I *might* be willing to participate in 😏
I overall like Apple Fitness better (look, feel and more polished look and better price).
Ur not pedaling and your HR is over a 100?🤷🏼♀️
I'm workin' on my fitness, you're my witness
@@TailHappyTV 😂
Geez after you buy the Apple Watch iPhone and iPad you mightiest well off bought the peloton and more than a few months of off $39 app. Smh lol
Surprised you haven’t gotten a copyright strike yet
What are you going to do with all those extra bikes? 😁
Not give any to you. Lol
Peloton is miles ahead in terms of quality and functionality
They should be.
If you are not peddling...Why is your heart rate 112.+
So helpful
Dude, why is your heart rate so high, your heart rate should not be 120 standing idle
Maybe he smokes meth. You dont know his life
Your resting heart rate is very high for not even pedaling the bike. Maybe you get nervous while filming.
You keep repeating yourself especially about the Apple Fitness+. The video could have been easily condensed.
I'll run it through winzip next time
A resting heartrate of 117 (you said you weren't pedaling and apparently just talking) is usually an indicator of being out of shape.
Never said it was a review, specifically said it was not a review
@@TailHappyTV Fair enough, didn't read the liner notes, just watched the video. Both peloton and Apple are ecosystems, so it was fun to watch an android guy review two ecosystems that by their very nature go against all the android values. It was a very even-handed review so thanks.
