18 Route 66 - The Oatman Highway - AZ Part 6

- In this segment we’re driving on the legendary Oatman Highway.
Our first stop is the Cool Springs Station.
After the Cool Springs Station we get our first glimpse of the infamous Burros of Oatman.
The wild burros that roam around are the relatives of the burros used by miners back in the day.
When the gold dried up, the miners left town and left the burros to roam free and they're still roaming free in the streets of Oatman today.
We come across the ruins of what once was Ed’s Camp.
And more of Oatman’s Burros.
Do you know about Schaeffer Springs - Oatman’s super-secret fish-bowl?
We climb the stairs and look for fish.
Then we summit Sitgreaves Pass at 3550 feet above sea-level.
And we finally make it to the town of Oatman and the historic Oatman Hotel.
After checking out the inside of the Oatman Hotel we drive by the remanence of the old Oatman Community Swimming Pool before heading out of town to an “Easy Rider” movie location.

The Oatman Highway is one of my favorite drives @mikewallace6957 !! A lot of people don’t even know about the secret fish bowl. It’s pretty cool right?!?
Crusin the back roads of America in a hot rod. I LOVE it!
Thanks so much @budlandacre2368
I love to see the USA in my Chevrolet!!
Thanks for coming along for the ride with me!!
This is one of your best videos, Jeff! The Oatman highway on Route 66 is amazing, and your over the shoulder video makes me feel like I am your passenger. The scenic drive is lonesome, no traffic, except an occasional burro. Shaffer Springs is a neat stop, then the Oatman Hotel with $1's on the walls, another fun ride!
Thanks so much for coming along for the ride with me @papatangoable !!
That was a Great Ride, Thanks !!!

Are you serious? I can't wait!!!!
I can't wait to get it out on the open road and let it eat @@sibman77 !!
Thanks so much (JEFF) I Miss driving that RT 66 Every Morning to work. Worked at Eagles Nest Antiques for years then at the Gold Road Mine. Also the old Duval Mine (Kingman). We were married in a Gun-Fight Wedding in the street in Oatman 1998. Stayed in the Oatman Hotel that night. (Back then you could). The Spirits were flowing from the Bar & In The Streets. 😃😅 Costume Rentals & all. / Now living in (TX) this was an awesome treat. Thanks so very much.
You're welcome @debrablue !! Thank you so much for the kind words. How was spending the night in the Oatman Hotel?? That must've been awesome.
I was managing the Hotel restaurant back then, if you ate there, I probably cooked your food!
That’s so cool @cavecookie1 !! Tell me more about your time in Oatman
@@jeffthisted LOL, I got LOTS of cool stories...I lived there for 10 years, all through the '90s. Just down from the top of the pass is a big turn-out where you can park and have that spectacular panorama of the valley. At the very end of that spot, there's a big flat rock that resembles a conference table. After a busy day working in town, we'd grab some beers and run up there to relax, decompress from the day and watch the sun set...we called that place "The Office"! The best part of my time for me was talking with people from all over the world as they came through. My buddy and I had a mechanical horse that was made from a 55 gallon drum, with a 5 HP motor that we would bring to town, and drive up and down Rt. 66, used to really freak the burros out!
That’s awesome!! Thanks for sharing @cavecookie1 !! Oatman is one of my favorites!!
That old gas station you stopped at at Cool Springs they filmed Universal Soldier there as well the original building got blown up in the movie and got rebulit years later and now it's a tourist attraction I've never been by there I always wanted to I remember when Kingman had everything in business as well
The Cool Springs Station is pretty awesome right @lancecharley88 ?!?
Got a great t-shirt at Cool Springs advertising the Arizona Sidewinder. Had a fun drive across to Oatman in my Bullitt but think my steering wheel still has finger intentions.😂. Not many roads like this around Houston.
The Oatman Highway is one of my favorite drives @charlescahoon3557
What's your bullitt? Is that a bourbon?
You need to come out to Colorado and drive the Mount Evans Scenic Byway!! It's the highest paved road in North America. We do it every year on opening day.
@@jeffthisted Nope. 2019 Mustang Bullitt. But there is a pretty good bourbon by a similar name!!
Gotcha - thanks@@charlescahoon3557
I'm a big fan of Bulliet Bourbon.
Last time I made that run, it was in a 33.5 ft. Pace Arrow.I was cool with it. The missus was a little freaked out.
Very cool @markyac got any pictures of your Pace Arrow?
@@jeffthisted....I'm sure i do ...parked at a gas island, I'm sure. ;-)
I can't wait to see 'em@@markyac !!
Sorry Jeff, I didn't mean to do that. Radiator Springs is a mythical city in the Disney movie Cars. my son and I took a drive from Needles to Kingman, after rounding a curve looking down into a valley had to be inspiration for one of the scenes.
It’s all good @genewilson2705 the Oatman Highway is one of my all-time favorite drives.
Most People Dont slow Down enuff to Notice the Stairs to the Gold Fish Bowl.👍
Did you know about the super secret fish bowl @motorhead2168 ? The first few time I drove the road I drove right by it. It’s pretty cool right?!?
@@jeffthisted a friend was a motorcycle test Rider in early 2000s and told Me about it.
It's one of my favorite drives @@Motorhead-y3 !!
Have you driven it??
We live north of the Kingman Wiegh Station so we go to Oatman 2-3 times a year for Icecream and the Gun Fight 🇺🇸
That's awesome@@Motorhead-y3
If I lived there I'd go to Oatman every chance I got - it's so cool!!
Hay Jef, your in Radiator Springs Teritory
Where is Radiator Springs located @genewilson2705 ??
I can’t find it.
Cool video. Thanks for sharing. Does the video start near I-40 in Kingman?
Thanks so much @azslotracer I really appreciate it!!
Thank YOU for coming along for the ride with me!!
Yes - we start basically at Exit 44 off of interstate 40.
@jeffthisted it was fun coming along with you thanks!
Thanks so much@@azslotracer !! If you like what you saw would you do me a favor? Gimme a like & subscribe to my RUclips channel if you haven't already. I'd appreciate it.
