A Finnish (Finnish sauna strikes again!) melodic power metal band that has been around forever (formed in 1984), multiple amazing albums, too many epic songs to list. One of the first power metal bands I discovered after my son introduced me to metal, and one I still love to hear. The band and their sound have undergone considerable and often chaotic changes over the years, including the original lead guitarist quitting a week before a big concert. The band called Timo Tolkki, who learned all their songs off a cassette in time for the concert. great reaction, stay safe, keep rocking down to M Day.
Finnish band Stratovarius was one of the biggest power metal bands in 90's. And they were one of the biggest influences for early Nightwish. The guitarist Timo Tolkki is a real guitar virtuoso, one of the fastest and cleanest players, and he was the mastermind behind the music. And the keyboard player, Swedish Jens Johansson, has earlier played with Yngwie Malmsteen and Dio. Dream Theater also considered him as their new keyboard player after Kevin Moore left, but ended up choosing Jordan Rudess. They are still playing, with a bit different lineup, and their latest album Survive (2022) is actually quite good.
I think they played along to the song slowed way down, then sped it up to normal speed. The opposite of what they used to do in old Nigthwish videos with Tarja, where they woudd play along to the song sped up, then slow it back down so it looks like they are playing in slow motion. This is a poppy song for them, they are one of the old school power metal bands from the 80's, and were actually an influence of Nightwish's early sound.
Please do more reactions to them. The keybordist Jan Johansson is the brother of former Hammerfall drummer Anders Johansson! Also I know that 1 song Hammerfall done (Cant remember witch right know) was written in Stratovarius singer's (Timo Kotipelto) kitchen!! Some fun fact for you.
They have a newer music video, out this year called "Survive" I think you guys would like. Similar to this one but a little more modern and definitely more energetic.
love your music and that you have that feeling impresses me. . especially you mr guitarist . . sorry don't know your name but you're awesome anyway. . if we should change the subject. . have you heard of the dark element "the ghost and the reaper" . . old singer in nightwish Anneth Olsen. . also from Sweden. . little tips. . as I said recently found your channel but awesome. . I will follow you with pleasure, I love you because you are who you are/Thobbe
Back in the day they were played in Finnish TV all the time, it was mostly these poppier tunes though. Heard the song to death but their other golden era stuff is still the absolute tits. I have to say i can say with quite the confidence that i remember every lyric these guys wrote during their golden era, that's how much i've blasted their stuff through out the years.
Hi Frank. These guys have been all over the place with their sound, their early stuff was pretty heavy, according to their comments they were influenced by a lot by Black Sabbath. They have had a lot of lineup changes, and it seems they changed direction on their sound with every one of them. One of the bands I listen to when i am in the mood for a little prog metal but not when I want to headbang or fight dragons. And yes, I avoid their poppy era like the plague.

Id recommend something more progressive and melodic by them like Eternity, Legions, Father Time, or Black Diamond.

Only for connoisseurs!
I’ve heard of them, but never listen to them. This song is also too poppy for my liking, still okay though.
