Gotta factor in how much it costs Todd to cut up his sculpts which he has said on the record that he doesn't like articulation vs. how much does it cost to paint a movable statue. Also, to keep the price point at $20 for his basic stuff, corners are being cut.
I was actually able to pick up Violator Redeemer and Raven on sale for 80 plus tax all together. I don’t have the old Spawn stuff as I wasn’t collecting back when they came out so I’m pretty happy with them.
i completely agree, art is the gold standard in action figures knowledge imo. this guy actually lived it through the prime of action figures and still has ALL of them. im only 27 but i admire art being able to keep such a strong collection, life hit me a little harder but luckily now im collecting like crazy and life is good!

I display the old ones with the most detail and keep the newer articulated figures in box. The older more detailed figures do it for me. The newer stuff serve as collectibles for me. Can’t get enough of Spawn and the lore and figure we’re getting the best of both worlds now. Super detailed but very little articulation = old stuff, more articulated but less detailed = new stuff . Best of both worlds.
I've actually been buying up older McFarlane stuff... The big figs ... Creech.....Overtkill...Cygor...all from watching your Spawn Collection vid... Haven't completely dove into the new stuff...but have picked up some .. Your take is always fresh and honest....👍💀
I know we grew up with Anorexic Violator but I'm digging what they did with this new version. I also digging the added articulation in the new figs...I know you may not be big on articulation but that coo bruh, but for a guy like me that likes snapping shots of his fig its dope AF...I always understood your point of view Bruh, stay up!👊🏿
Only grabbed the Gunslinger spawn, and I was iffy on that one. The rest are an easy pass, I’ve seen what Todd can do and this isn’t him. Maybe one day the aliens will finish their experiments, and bring back real Todd.
New violator looks cool. Shame about the cost cutting on the paint. You expect it from hasbro, but sad to see on Spawn. I remember seeing all the og direct market shit in import stores at the start of it all, and they were gorgeous monstocities. Still got a couple of them and i picked up a large scale tortured souls fig last year.

The Redeemer is a soldier from heaven, he should be bright and not resemble the dingy and corrupted look of hell's pawns. The older Spawn figures are trash when it comes to articulation, good to see McFarlane finally stopped giving us nonsense statue-figures (make up your mind) and is producing highly articulated pieces that we can pose however we like. I don't mind him producing statues, but they'll never take the place of action figures.

The newer Gunslinger (Gunslinger Issue #1) comic reveals that the reason his hat top is so tall is because he keeps his knives in there. Don’t know if that helps make it less irritating knowing that.

I COMPLETELY agree about the new Redeemer. I hate that thing. But I did buy a 2nd one because I am going to give it a full paint job and tone the blue down to a darker more subdued color of blue and give it some gritty washes and some subtle dry brushing. It looks like a figure that was manufactured at Jakk's Pacific, imho. Disappointment. The sculpt itself even, isn't so hot. It's too refined and "safe" from artistic expression. The antithesis of McFarlane Toys. Anyways, great review.
