How to Fly on VATSIM Without an FMC (Use Default GPS!)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 15 мар 2015
- In this tutorial I explain how to fly on VATSIM using the default GPS instead of a Flight Management Computer (FMC). The first half of the video shows how to plan basic routes while the second half demonstrates how to plan more complex routes including SIDS and STARS. I use a website called SimBrief.com to help me organize my flights and generate a flightplan that can be imported directly into FSX.
Be advised: Flying SIDS/STARS using this methods requires that you have all charts available and meet all altitude and/or speed restrictions manually. There is no LNAV/VNAV capability with the default GPS. Using an FMC is a more efficient way to fly complex routes, this video just shows you an alternate method.
Thanks for watching! Comments are always welcomed. Хобби
"the alternate can be weird sometimes"
lol true. One time I was on Simbrief creating a flight plan to Seoul Incheon and it gave me Pyongyang as an alternate XD
North Korea just wants to take u captive cuz ur a western spy. Lol kidding- that's strange
its still correct tho, even if you know
HAHAHAHA
I get so embarrassed when I do direct in default airplanes....Thanks man!
same
Back when I did VATSIM with a friend we flew a POSKY 744 as KLM610 from Zurich to Moscow-Sheremetyevo. Neither of us knew how to properly program a flight plan so we just plugged it in as direct to UUEE. After the tower controller at Zurich thought we were landing (somehow), we took off and flew the direct. As such, the departure controller was confused as to why we flew into Germany and gave us vectors. It's still pretty embarrassing when you want to know what you're doing but can't.
This video really helped with me and my flight plans on FSX! With finding every single waypoint that takes so much time, but this website is very quick! Thanks! :D
not only that less stressful makes flying and getting the atc less annoyed when you know what your doing do this helped
DUDE! I used to be just interested in your multiplayer trolling videos, but thanks to you I have finally got interested in vatsim. This video is so amazing and you are the best. I'm still trying to find an opening in the friendslist of kilocharlie1 and I just wanted to say keep up the awesome work, you are truly what youtube is meant for.
This just answered all of my questions, and fixed all my problems I had with filling a flight plan that's valid for VATSIM, and works on FSX. Thank You!
This has allowed me to be able fly a larger amount of planes on VATSIM! Thank you!
Glad to hear it!
Really appreciate this info AFP95! Got me using SimBrief and actually decided to update the website to the current AIRAC cycle since i decided to update the FMC data on my PMDG737. I still like using this freeware CRJ-7 i have along with the default LJ45 for vatsim flights so this comes in handy. You sir are a valuable asset to the flightsim community
I have the PMDG 737 and that's the only aircraft that I use that has a realistic FMC. This helped a lot!
Pmdg is what I fly all the time but sometimes a freeware A380 is fun :)
I can't remember anymore lol
Yep :/
I do, but only the PMDG 737 and Aerosoft A320
Thanks for sharing this much needed information. I have never used SimBrief and did not realize it was that easy to use. Keep up the great content.
Ganon136 Thanks Patric!!
This helps so much because I just learned what sids and stars are, but had no idea how to fly them with this default gps.
nicholas johnson I'm glad!!
Might be quite late but you are an absolute LEGEND! Thanks,
GOOD JOB! keep up the good work
To make things easier, get Aivlasoft EFB. Not only does it provide charts, but it injects data into FSX's garmin gps so you can go direct, perform SIDS/STARS without tampering with the original filed route. Flew a lot of flights with it and never dissapoints me
Thanks so much for this tutorial!
Well done, if a little quick. I learned a lot. Thanks! :)
+Bud Fields (PPTS) Great! Thanks Bud
@@Airforceproud95 I see what you did there.
Thanks so much! This really helped a lot!
Yes, finally!
Thank you soooo much!
Charlie Tsai Thanks for watching!
THIS IS WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR.
Great vid. Thanks for the info.
Great instructional video, thanks for posting this.
Question 4 you or the group here. I'm new to FMC- I know the basics. I paid for update Navigraph subscription and downloaded recent AIRAC cycle for my Plane in the Sim which is a Wilco 777-200ER.
One question is, the new AIRAC cycle show correctly in my FMC CDU screen ok.
But when I enter say New York (KJFK airport then try choosing runway 31L or 31R for Departing its not there listed as an option. It only showing 1/1 pages so there isn't another page. Only runways showing for KJFK are RW04L, RW04R, RW13L, RW13R & RW22L) thats it- No runway 31L or 31R for departures.
Strange thing is on my FMC if I try seeing what runways are available at KJFK for Arrivals I'm seeing all runways including 31L, 31R. But I noticed its also missing IAPs- they show the runways but do not list ILS or RNAV approaches.
Anyone have a clue whats going on or how to fix/remedy this issue? or experienced this themselves?
Great video. Can you do a video on the QW 757 I'm trying to learn it, thanks
I subbed! Enjoy ur vids!
Aviation 191 Thanks man!
was trying to figure out how to calculate the fuel burn today but couldn't figure out how to do that, is there an easy way of doing so?? Was trying to file my first vatsim flight plan tonight but that was the one thing that stopped me
I know this video is old, but I tried using it the other day for FSX:SE and instead of loading the waypoints/stars/sids I wanted, it choose 'high altitude airways'. Any help?
Would typing each waypoint in the STAR to SimBrief work?
I dont have the drop down menu under DISPATCH OUTPUT like you do..... How can I change which Sim I am using....FSX or FS9É
After I install the Aero navaids I'm able to navigate them but I'm not seeing them on the map in the fax flight planner.
I also found out you can import routes from vroute too into fsx :D
Nice tut! But what if the wind changes its direction and i have to use a different star? Do I have to create a new plan on the air and activate it? And what if I get a direct?
Yeah this is what I do because I don't know yet how to use the FMC.
I suggest you to download Little Navmap which is really great at creating routes, it also exports files for FSX/P3D and shows your and other planes' positions and info on the map. You can auto-generate a route, then paste it into this application, and keep it open while flying. Then at the moment of re-routing, you can rapidly switch to Little Navmap, fix the waypoints, then save the .pln and reload it in FSX/P3D.
Important: after reloading it, the GPS will activate the first stroke in your plan, so before loading it, set the heading indicator to the current heading and switch the autopilot to heading, then load the revised plan, then open the GPS, click on FPL (flight plan), click on the large button on the bottom right, find the waypoint to which you want to fly using the large knob, then press Menu, then Enter. Finally switch the autopilot back from heading to loc.
I hope this has been useful to someone.
very useful thanks
+Airline Pilot Thanks for watching!
i am really scared when atc says climb via the SID cuz i dont have a FMC, and i have no idea how to fly it with a default gps, help!
You can download at flightsim.com a simple fmc just search for freeware bendix fmc in wich you can program your vertical navigation (VNAV) that fmc takes you're default flightplan , you can change your flightplan during flight if you use the direct to VOR option you have to manualy select every VOR . That is a big workload during flight. You can also load every star and sid manualy in your FSX flightplanner copy the waypoints from the plates and save those sids and stars as flights. Now you can select during flight your appropriate sid /star wich you manualy programmed before, when FSX asks you to put the aircraft at the starting airport just select no. Your flight goes on on the place you were (in the air). Now you just click on the Honeywell Bendix free FMC hold and the first waypoint of your star.
Hey, I've noticed you used the Honeywell FMC for a lot of your flights in VATSIM, like with the MD-83. My issue is that when I click on the DEP and ARV key, it won't let me put in the SID or STAR for either airport. Is there anything I'm doing wrong?
The Honeywell FMC relies on the Default fsx Nav database, it doesn't recognize SIDs or STARs
Whenever I plan arrivals in Sim Brief ATC at Vatsim assumes that I do not have one planned and plan a totally different arrival... Is there a way to tell them my planned arrival? (Flying without FMS only with GPS)
Make a note in your flight plan (I use vPilot). 99% of the time they're cool about it, as long as it falls within guidelines
how do you go direct to a waypoint and not delete the fpln?
The free new airac cycle is 1603, which was released last year.
is pfpx ok to use in vatsim???
Having trouble finding the waypoints on the map just copy the locations from the plates and paste that in the map locations if you choose {alt}{world}{map} this means that you make your flightplan at the gate in game that makes it just so much easier.
If I am flying on VATSIM and and let's say I take the HYPER4 arrival would I file the HYPER5 arrival because it's current?
Late reply, but yes. These departures and arrivals are nearly the same when they are updated.
you can leave it like that the atc will change it
It's from the best so I trust your tutelage groundpound
how do you direct to a waypoint by defult fsx gps
Thank you
If ATC told me to change my arrival from one star to another, how would I do that with the default gps while on VATSIM?
That is where flying with GPS becomes a challenge. You would either have to advise them unable (which technically is allowed since you're the pilot in command), or go into the flight planner and manually revise your route with the new waypoints.
@@reecearcinas9837 Does it pause your fsx when you do it?
I don't know how to update Fsx navaids update...
ive been looking for SID charts for a while but I can't find any. do you know where I can get some SID charts?
+Mr Void you can look for the ICAO code of the airport and then put charts behind it
+HarambeAce a good resource is FlightAware, it would be at flightaware.com/resources
Do you have a link to a good full video with you using default 737 on vatsim
+GENIUS316 ruclips.net/video/Dg4Qjmp6frA/видео.html
+Airforceproud95 thxs I'll post to this thread if I have other questions
+Airforceproud95 I'm confused when they say do the XYZ arrival what that means and how you find it out and put it in GPS
That means they're issuing a STAR to you.
Is it absolutely necessary to use SIDs and STARs, or is it perfectly fine to fly a simple flight plan on VATSIM?
You can declare unable to the ATC and he should vector you with heading and altitude instruction
It gives me all the way points I need but also way points that I don't need
you can also plan all stars as alt routes wich you can bring up during flight the sim will never pause. if there are 5 stars for that runway you can be assigned just make the string for that runway 5 times over and just click in your GPS direct to --> and then the first waypoint of that star . Also save your flight with the runway number and sid you flown example EHAMEGLL36LREF1LAM3A so the next time I'm flying to LondonGatwick and my starting runway is 36l I can just edit my flightplan to Heathrow from my last waypoint before the star. That way EGKK becomes my arrival airport and EGLL my alternate . just find out where the flightplans diverge and program from that point if the arrival airports are further apart.
Great video, but the problem with vatsim is that nobody bothers to learn how to actually fly. If you give them an aircraft, without an FMS and no RNAV capabilities, they would not know how to fly it. VORs and DME is what they used, and what they still use to fly SIDs and STARs without a fancy FMS. As a controller I've heard too much of pilots saying "I dont have that in my FMC" "Where is that in the FMC". If you really want to fly, use VORs its the most fun.
7 years in WWII Sims, just give me a map and I'll navigate with landmarks myself controller man!
there are less and less VOR procedures. they're being slowly replaced
sim brief uses AIRAC 1703 which is outdated
i tried updating my fs navaids but the apllication says i dont have permision to use it... any ideas?
Make sure you're running all programs as administrator.
How would you fly direct to a way point?
This is the same issue im having, I cant figure out how
Vnav?
But how do I start in a gate or parking????? I start in the middle of the runway, please help
Get a brain.
When you are loading the flight planner, you can edit the gate number by hitting change on the departure airport, on the bottom right, it should either have a number written in, or it may say "active runway" hit it, then scroll down and choose the gate you would like ( this may not work on all airports). Happy flying!
When u can't afford PMDG
u crack it just like i did
Going old school!!! Old vid!
What if you get rerouted mid-flight?
Tuckthemuck then your fucked
I suggest you to download Little Navmap which is really great at creating routes, it also exports files for FSX/P3D and shows your and other planes' positions and info on the map. Will VATSIM controllers smite you for not using SIDs and STARs?
Most often they dont let u even request delivery clearance without a flight route
Or use vasfmc? It's free!
Thanks :D
just saw this video, and now I feel like a complete ass. I had been using the default FSX flight planner, and always wondered why the vectoring was off from default ATC. Also, I'm still a bit of a noob with this flight sim stuff, so easy with the trolling.
I think no ones gonna troll you
shit, just want to get my mic to work. VERY NOOB here. Can fly but cant talk. :)
