I really enjoy EastEnders from during this time. The acting and stories all feel very true to life. It's weird seeing the other Peggy with the Mitchell brothers.Funny that she and Sharon also hated each other! I love Billy Idol's White Wedding playing during the car scene where Phil & Grant are on the chase to stop RIcky & Sam's wedding :D

They had no choice but to re-cast Peggy when she returned in 1994 because the original actress who played Peggy in 1991 had sadly died and Barbara Windsor was the perfect choice and she made Peggy a legend

No the original actress was Jo Warne and she died in 2017. They recast her because she turned down the role to revive the character

​@@mattfisher694 she would've been rubbish compared to Barbara Windsor as a permanent character. She was a good actress but Barbara's character based on Ronnie Kray was so much better and personality-wise, she was more believable being a mother of the Mitchell's.

@@grxgghxrpxr In fairness, when Peggy made her first appearance in 1991, it wasn't envisioned that she would become a major player later in the decade and I think Jo Warne pulls it off fine- physically she looks similar to the kids (especially Phil) and gives as good as she gets. Barbara Windsor was offered the part in 1994 because she was a friend of Mike Reid and looking for some full-time acting work- Jo Warne wouldn't have been considered anyway, not least because by that time she was playing Julie Corrigan's mum in Grange Hill.

Sam/Daniella Westbrook really was beautiful, she could have played a character in Jane Austen or another period drama. There were endless possibilities then, instead she turned to some stupid white powder that ruined her prospects, reputation and good looks.

Eastenders IMO has been a piece of crap since around 2003, but these classic clips, especially the Mitchell bros from the 1990s are just great. At least they resonate with a believable cockney east end, unlike todays crap.

+James Feighan It's Peggy's boyfriend from the early 1990s, Kevin. By the time Barbara Windsor took over the role of Peggy in 1994, she had split up with him after he had done a runner without the Mitchell brothers knowing about it :-)
