- Hey you guys! This week's Go Travel On The Cheap episode is a sampling of our slot canyon fun at a slot canyon at Red Hollow Trail near Zion and Bryce. This is a must-do of slot canyon hikes and desert hiking. There are so many slot canyons in Utah and slot canyons near Escalante Utah. It's awesome to be able to go hiking in a red rock canyon and Red Hollow Trail is definitely less crowded than some of Zion National Park slot canyons...perhaps it is even one of Utah's secret slot canyons hikes! If you have any questions or would like to share your thoughts, please leave us a comment below! Share our video with a friend, and like always, thank you for living life! 😊

Never heard of Slot Canyon before. Thanks for taking us there. It looks like a great hike (if you're not claustrophobic 😉😉😉). We are due to go back to that part of the country. We'll add it to our list. And we'll bring proper hiking boots 🤣🤣🤣.
LOL, my Tevas are usually fine to hike in--but not so much in slot canyons, I learned! If you do come this way, we would love to do a collab/show you around... Let us know!
This is beautiful. Perfect hiking area, I would love to do this hike
And did they actually shoot 127 hours there?
I believe I say in the video that this is not where they filmed 127 Hours, but it reminded April & I of that movie while we were exploring the slot
Is this a national park? I notice you flew the drone there and I always wonder what drone regs are like in America? The canyon is super impressive! Damn, it does get narrow though. Yeah I thought of 127 hours too 🙈 I can't believe that's the trail, It's crazy. That rope part is so steep. I can see why you'd want a helmet.
This hike is not in a NP, just near Zion and Bryce NPs... No drone flying in NPs here. It is crazy how many hikes there are like this just here in UT!
I'm so with April on this one! Totally a no go! Way to narrow, and that rope, that's way to steep. The layers in the rocks are amazing!
Hahaha, maybe next time 😎
Nice. We have a Zion and Bryce video coming up...as soon as I can find the time to edit the footage. That view at 2:36 - LOVE IT. Looks like there's a lot of shimmying to hike Slot Canyon.
Thank you for watching & commenting, man...how have you been? Hahaha, yep--especially when you have a bit of a keg on your front side like me 😎
@@GoTravelOnTheCheap It's been a rollercoaster with the move to your neck of the woods this year...trying to keep my head afloat!
I can imagine...moves are stressful
This is a bucket list hike for me! I cant wait to go there one day and get some footage for my channel! Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
Thank you for watching & commenting! Where is home base for you? When do you come here, we'd be happy to show you around and do a collab, even... 😊
@@GoTravelOnTheCheap no problem! We're out of Atlanta Georgia through a lot of our videos in the surrounding states and the North Georgia Mountains. Well if I'm ever out that way I'll let you know!
Cool, April and I are both originally from FL, so know Atlanta and those surrounding states pretty well! Safe travels
@@GoTravelOnTheCheap awesome!
This is definitely a pretty state - Utah is simply amazing. We only have been to the Arches and Canyonlands, and opted to skip Zion and Bryce (for next time).
The red hollow trail reminds me of Petra - red glowing and dusty pathways, which is amazing. And yes, of course the 127 hours with James Franco, yikes.
Stay safe and we will be traveling again soon!
I bet Petra is incredible. We are lucky to be so close to so many awesome places to explore! We haven't been to Canyonlands yet. We love Bryce!
0:57- the contrast colours sky and red sand. Awesome. What a labyrinth of corridors. Bit narrow for my claustrophobic angst I'm afraid. I was sweating just watching...pffff 🥺. You guys rock you know that? Amazing adventures. 👍 🎥 🌷 🙋♀️
April didn't go any further because of her own claustrophobia tendencies... 😬😊 Awww shucks...thank you for saying so! We try to push ourselves to live life and enjoy the journey as much as we can 😍😁
Those red sides to the canyon must create such an atmosphere walking through. SO happy you mentioned that film that is literally all I could think up until that point!! Defo won't be doing this in flip flops!
It is other-worldly and magical to explore slot canyons! I shouldn't have been doing this in my Tevas, but it was a spur of the moment hike and that's all I had for footwear 😎
It's great to go with you as I doubt we would ever get there, so experiencing it through your video is perfect. Looks fascinating. Looks a squeeze. ❤️🌈🎥👍
It is quite narrow in some spots! A squeeze indeed for me, hahaha. Thank you for watching our video all the way through 😎
This looks like a really nice trail! Was the temperature any cooler in the slots? It looks amazing in there. I was just thinking it looked like 127 hours before you mentioned it! Good job on making that climb in your sandals Wayne haha! Definitely got to do this when we're next stateside! The blooper made me lol too!
It was cooler in the slots, thankfully...still, July in this part of UT is hot! LOL, my Teva sandals are usually good for hiking, but not so much in a slot canyon. Glad you enjoyed the blooper 😆
The colors of the rock are so beautiful and vivid. Good job for exploring somewhere new! Especially in that heat. I liked how smooth the filming was as well :)
Thank you! Yes, we are fortunate to live relatively close by 😎
What an adventure on this Canyon! Looks really good even in videos! love the way you edit your video too! Cheers!
Thanks for watching from start to finish 😉
Wow!! Southern Utah looks incredible!! Added to the bucket list :)
It really is!
Wow what an awesome place to explore, those canyons look fantastic and you deffo need to go back and climb that rope :)
It's amazing what Mother Nature has created for millions of years. LOL, maybe...
Just found your channel and love the videos, we subscribed! All the best.
We appreciate your support!
This has been on my list for years, but kinda far away from other attractions .Now it is back on my list. Great color and day lights effect at every turn. Some spots don't look like a real path, so much fun and adventurous. Love it, Thanks for sharing.
There are so many slot canyons in Utah... Hope you can explore one someday 🙂
Whoa…the slot canyon looks hella narrow, but it’s so cool looking! “No we’re not…it’s a ladder!” 😂 Looks like you guys had a blast exploring the canyon…”but hell no, not with your busted back” 😂😂 You guys are hilarious! Thanks for sharing Wayne…be safe!
LOL, we are such goofballs... But we have fun! Done a slot canyon hike yet?
@@GoTravelOnTheCheap Never done a slot canyon, but I got into plenty of scrapes doing stupid crap with my brother when we were younger 😂
😆 Sounds like you had a great childhood then... My body is like 15 years older than I really am for all of the stupid crap I did when younger--and not so younger, LOL
Great video! Seeing you explode together is lovely.
Thank you watching, we appreciate the support!
Go Travel On The Cheap Most welcome, we enjoy seeing fellow travel video making couples! :)
I've never been here but it really reminds me of some of the landscapes in the north of Argentina. Our kids would love moving through the canyon. Good decision to no climb that rope.
They have slot canyons in Argentina? Cool! We hope to get there someday; have always wanted to visit. Hahaha, yep--better that I didn't climb it
Perhaps not as epic as this one. But definitely some interesting rock formations in the north of Argentina around Salta and Jujuy.
Good to know!
What an amazing place! Always wanted visit the place, I'll go mad with my camera! Great channel guys, no wonder you guys hit 1k subs recently, congratulations! :)
Coming to visit this area should definitely be near the top of your bucket list!
Some beautiful drone shots there! :D I got sweaty just by looking at the video, haha! I'd love to do this trail. That old man looked pretty satisfied with the trail though!
Thanks. It was so hot, haha. We were impressed by him; he told us he used to be an avid hiker/climber, so still tries to do some as he can
I love your intro! This is a great share. The rope looks challenging and I would love to try that. We love nature and we would love to see slot canyons in the future. Thanks guys! Kia Ora from New Zealand c/t
LOL, do you know what movie our intro comes from? ;-) Thank you for giving us a full watch!
It sounded familiar but can’t remember. Hey you guys!!!! I really love the energy/aura
Thanks! It is from the movie The Goonies...ever seen it? It's kind of a classic here in the USA ;-)
very beautiful hike :)
It was, especially in the shaded parts. Thank you so much for watching!
@@GoTravelOnTheCheap your welcome
I really need to get out there and see this! I think the structures there are so beautiful. And I don’t know if I even had to right equipment if I would climb up there lol. Nice video!
Come to UT this year! We will show you around and we can do a collab! 😇 Hahaha, I think April might agree with you on that one
Go Travel On The Cheap What are the best times of year to visit? I’m assuming the weather is similar to Arizona or Nevada but want to make sure!
Early spring or late fall or wintertime...it gets too warm in the summer and too crowded
You can feel just from watching the video how hot it is. The slot canyon looks amazing, so narrow with such beautiful shades of red. I love how the walls of the canyon resemble stone waves.
It really was! (July) Yes, we love the red hues and the wave-like walls...ever heard of Antelope Canyon?
nice hike, I liked the stone colors, I believe waiting till sunset time will even make the color more rich.
Since this is a slot canyon, the sunset wouldn't really touch the majority of the colors here
Southern Utah, that landscape is amazing. Great to see some movie references as well. At which time of the year did you do this trip? It is so amazingly sunny. And where are the bloopers?
It was July...so hot. Isn't me trying to squeeze through parts of the slot blooper-like? 😆😂 Glad you missed our bloopers though
Love exploring the US with you! The canyon look beautiful, we love hiking so this has been amazing to watch! The slot canyon looks like a labyrinth and the space is so narrow, amazing that you made the climb!
Thanks for saying so...one of these days, we will show you around these parts in person when you visit! 😄 Ever been on a hike in something similar to this slot canyon?
Oh gosh, when you starting going into that slot canyon, I totally was thinking of 127 Hours! Glad you guys made it out alive, in one piece. The other thing it reminded me of was Petra in Jordan, although this seemed a bit more adventurous, which is probably more my style. Yeah, sandals are not appropriate footwear 😂
Hahaha, my Tevas usually work fine for most summer hikes...but not so much in slot canyons! You need to plan a trip to the USA and we will show you around/do some adventurous stuff 😄
@@GoTravelOnTheCheap Yesssss!!
Such a beautiful hike. Wow, too bad you couldn't go all the way. Such an adventure!!! Gotta have the right equipment though. Safety first. :) Hahah, April!
It was so cool...but so HOT! (Better in the shade of the slot though) She keeps me grounded, or tries to anyway, LOL 😎
@@GoTravelOnTheCheap hahaha, tries to for sure!
Looks so awesome, we're going in September. And reminds me exactly of 127 Hours - can't imagine being stuck in one of those slots! -c/t
Where exactly are you going in September? Might you be interested in collaborating? We live about 4-5 hours from southern Utah, so it's easy for us to meet up 😎
@@GoTravelOnTheCheap That'd be awesome! So our main road trip is to Jackson Hole, then our goal is to head back to Texas but drive through Utah since we've never been. This will be mid-September so I'll definitely reach out! Just depends on how many days we can squeeze into our trip.
Sounds great! We are only about six and a half hours from Jackson Hole, and we'd be happy to meet you up there/show you around, etc. Feel free to friend me on FB and let's PM as the time gets closer! If you want any suggestions for the Jackson area or here in Utah, please don't hesitate to ask!
Is this the place where they filmed 127 hours? looks like you're wandering on Mars. Ah thanks for answering my question IN the Video, lol. The arm still there? It actually doesn't look like you're wearing the right footwear for a hike in a canyon, haha. THATS WHAT I AM SAYING! not prepared, haha :D
Thought I said in the video that it actually is not where 127 Hours was filmed...but it's what April & I thought of while hiking in the slot... 😎 Hahaha, Tevas are pretty good to hike in--but not so much for this terrain. I only had these on me, as we'd done a quick trip south to collab with STUFR, and this slot canyon hike was an impromptu thing 😃
How far from the red hollow canyon trailhead to the slot canyon? Thanks!
This hike is just over a mile roundtrip, and the slot section is at the end for about 100 yards before you have to turn back. Let us know if you have any more questions, and thanks for watching! 😊
