How does it compare to Super Mario Maker World Engine?
@jasonhunter1685 It's probably been a year or so since I tried world engine, but considering when I tried it the original Mario Bros X from 2009 was way ahead of World Engine in terms of content. So I'm guessing this still smashes World Engine out of the water in that regard. Not that World Engine is bad, but World Engine was made to compete with Mario Maker 2, where has Mario X was created to be the definitive (mostly Mario World inspired) experience. So in terms of easy of use, World Engine certainly has X beat. But, they aren't really trying to do the same thing.

As for fan based Mario Maker programs, other than these two are there any other top their programs I should be aware of? ( These were the only two I found, so I'm just curious what else is out there. )
Yesterday I made a really fun level in MM2, but since I don't have Nintendo membership I can't upload it. If I put the effort into making some fun levels I hope that years down the road I can come back to play them, so I'm now much more interested to play PC versions which I can save and transfer files to preserve their longevity. If my switch dies , or Nintendo takes down the server then the levels I create will be gone.
I really like to design levels based on the rules and mechanics of the game. Such as Bros 3 can't wall jump, so I can make traps where wall jumping isn't allowed, but in new Mario bros wall jumping is a feature so I design levels that requires you to advance by precision wall jumping. Not intending to make kaizo levels but levels that are much more challenging than just the traditional games. Mario Wonder the Jump Jump Jump level was my favorite level and it's basic premise was to wall jump off off disappearing platforms. Plus if I can combine different mechanics together it can create and alter entirely different game play. Finding new ways to play old games, that's part of the fun.
I grew up on Bros 3 and then I went with Genesis system with Sonic. A couple fo years ago I played Mario World to completion but I didn't like it as much as Mario 3. I thought the cape was sort of a cheat to fly past the level. I liked the raccon tail in 3 because you could go places you could originally not go but it also wasn't easy to get where you wanted to go. I also like power ups that make the game more difficult to play. Such as force you to play with the frog suit on a land platforming level above ground.
Not sure which I'll get into yet BETA 5 or World Engine. Having more options is a definite plus. Having a more polished software to make levels is also a good trait.
Ya, I'm just trying to get an idea of what's out there and then decide which direction I want to go.
using these hard working devs to insult the series that inspired them is such an insult to everyone who works on smbx

I remember I used to use SMBX all the time and I have gotten into it again recently, which makes Beta 5 of SMBX2 perfectly timed.

Funny how SMBX nailed the Mario maker concept before it was a thing, and how fans keep making it even better
For real I can't believe a game I was playing when I was 8 years old is still getting updates and doesn't feel at all like it's more than a decade old (even if it's fan updates, I mean, it's fan content that's bringing life to this game in the first place)

The two are completely separate. Both projects intend to serve as successors to version 1.3 of SMBX, but 38A is its own software developed from the ground up whereas SMBX2 is being built around Redigit’s original code. *As a result, compatibility with older episodes tends to be much higher in SMBX2 than in 38A*"

It is wonderful that we still continue to have news about SMBX2, even I am learning a lot about programming, especially Lua, with all this I want to tell you that I am very grateful for the time you give to development and dedication to this game, I even thank the same creator, now I'm just thinking about whether it's possible to continue with my projects and also use some game scripts, I'm thinking about adding a map in effect 7, and testing it, but most likely with a lot of progress and effort this is also included, cheer up!!!

No! No more betas! After this, the next version should be the finalized version. SMBX2 is over 8 years old now. Way too long to in the "beta" stage.
@@Animebryan2 There are games that are like in EA for over 8 Years and nobody is complaining, the game will be done when the devs decide to call it finished.
Plus the amount of custom things people outside the dev team can do adds so much to it already.

Holy shit, this update's looking positively hype-inducing! 4 years was plenty worth it.
Wild to think we're getting this massive update during times where both Mario Maker's courses are facing purgatory through Wii U's Wi-Fi closure next month and Mario Maker 2 having long been abandoned by Nintendo.
This would make my child self, who was sooo excited at the prospect of an SMBX 1.4 that never came to be, SO happy. It’s heartwarming to see this level of care and effort.
