After watching so many Strat set up videos. This is the best I’ve seen by so many miles. Simply presented without frills or camera tricks and tells you everything you need to know without assuming that you already know it’s really important
You are jam up my friend. Thankyou. I copied your info onto index cards so that I will keep them handy. Im headed for my Strat right now. My guess work has failed me. Excited
I'm totally new to this. Just bought my first Strat....This information is very appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. LIKED/SUBBED.....
your first minute and a half showed me so much more than the last video I just watched. and that one was almost 22 minutes long. Thank you for such a precise video for set up. now I'll watch the rest of it. LOL Thank you for a great video.
This is of course a starting point and does not need to be strictly adhered to. It all depends on what your playing style is. Higher action is my thing because I tend to play harder and bend strings and I don't want my strings to buzz against the frets. Avoiding fret buzz according to your style is to me a more accurate measurement tool.
Finally a guy who knows what he's doing and can teach as well. Thank you for this Video. I kept going through videos on RUclips trying to find someone who could answer my questions about seeing up my Fender 51 but in general acute knowledge about pickup height and overall specs from the fender factory. So many videos I went through because guy would say, ("there isn't any exact measurements from fender", I've looked for them and found no results when I used Google.) I was like OMG idiot. But you sir was very helpful and I enjoyed you tips for measuring and other tools you can use to measure. You my friend are very likeable and interesting. You kept my attention throughout this Video and also inspired me as well. Great lesson you have put out there and I hope you do many more. But most of all thank you for being smarter than a fifth grader and 97% of the guitar tech guys on RUclips. Why aren't you bring paid by RUclips I imagine you are someone very important at whatever job you do in life and I hope you body makes you feel that way because damn I need just one friend in my circle half as intelligent as you Sir. Have a blessed day and thank you thank you thank you. My Fender 51 sounds amazing since I used your knowledge about the pickup heights and applied it to my Baby. Everyone keeps asking me what kind of guitar I have our an playing and when I tell them they don't believe me. Finally quest is done problems solved and I soaked up everything n this video thanks to the way you explain things. I cold wire a book about how much I enjoyed this lesson and almost did un-intentionally. So thanks again your f in awesome brotha!!!!!🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥💪💪💪💪🎸🎶🎶🎶🎤
Very nice helpful video. Any input on the pick up height in a MIM strat 2010 model. I believe there just standard pick ups. Its a fsr special candy apple red. Humbucker single single set up. any input on this? Thanks
Great video and thanks for the cheap option on everyday objects that can be used as feeler gauges. I'd like an explanation on when to file the nut. For me it's either (1) if you can get the action perfect with the capo at 1st fret, but it's too high with the capo off or (2) if you just bought a new guitar. Seems like every Fender, Gibson and especially Martin comes with sky-high nuts. I guess it's easier to lower than to raise, but geez, it's a pain for people who have light touch and need low action.
It's exactly what I was looking for thank you very much for your explanation. Very well done. I subscribe to your channel already. Very detailed explanation. You are amazing.
is that Kenny F****ng Powers!? omg, I cant get over how much you sound like Danny Mcbride...but seriously, great freaking video!! quick and to the point...every Strat setup video on you tube either sucks or is super long. This had everything I needed. again thank you!
After 16 years I brought out my guitar that I never used and just bought some parts for it and when the equipment arrives will be setting it up 16 years later. It is an Indonesia made Squire from 2004 that uses Duncan humbuckers. What do I set them at as there are two of them in total?
👏👍 perfect….if you don’t mind could you go a bit deeper and confirm the nut adjustment clearance heights at 1st fret…that would complete the whole lot. Also what your thoughts on upgrading the standard tuners. Example is i just got a American pro Series 1 and the low E and A has the 2 taller posts and the remaining 4 ( d g b e ) have the shorter posts of equal height. BUT if you buy a locking tuner kit from fender there is 3 tall and 3 short…will there be any break angle issues in your opinion. And its hard to but single tuners for some reason. Loved your vid by the way and very clearly presented…cheers from australia.
I believe that 2 tone is an American Special Strat 2015, I have one with 3 Texas Specials. Great guitar. I locked the trem. down. and my action is bit lower at the 7th fret, but still don't have Stratitis. As of 2017 you can't get a sunburst American Special. Notice the vintage tailpiece and saddles. You can learn to play so the saddles don't scratch your palm.
But, what do you do if after measuring at the 17th fret, the string height is wrong? Kapo is on, stri g doesn't seem to be pressed anywhere. Does this mean it's time to adjust the bridge?
why strats have put HBs in the bridge is beyond me. ( maybe it's they wanted them to sound more like any other strat shaped guitar, but with more oopmph..geez just get an LP lthen)...what's the measurement if you have a single coil in the bridge spot? thanks!
great tutorial, how about the string heights adjustment on the individual saddles? Could you please make a video how and when do you need to adjust it within the step by step process.
String Heights should be the same across the Fretboard: 4/64" / 1/8" for each string. Those heights are adjusted w/ each individual Saddle using the little Hex Wrench that comes w/ your Strat. Note; Lowering the Saddle under string tension is okay, raising it is NOT, loosen the string first. Also, the Saddle must be Level, if you turn one screw a 1/2 turn, turn the 2nd screw the same amount. Setting up a Strat is easy & DON'T be afraid of adjusting the Truss Rod. Many Neck & Fret issues can be corrected by a small adjustment of the Truss Rod. Remember wood changes (Expands, Bends, Shribks) with Humidity, As a World-Renowned Guitar Tech says: 'Gremlins aren't sneaking in at night & changing your Saddle Heights'. :-)
After watching so many Strat set up videos. This is the best I’ve seen by so many miles. Simply presented without frills or camera tricks and tells you everything you need to know without assuming that you already know it’s really important
Detailed and to the point. Having the dimensions written out and displayed on the video was very handy and a great idea. Thanks for sharing.
Don’t go into half the detail and explanation that someone like myself needs. Again, thank you for the time and energy you put into this.
Best descriptive walkthrough on strat set-up I’ve seen so far!! Thanks for making the video 👍
This is the best setup video I have found. Camera is a bit out of focus but didn't stop me from properly setting my guitar. Thanks a lot.

Awesome video. I’ve come back to it like 20 times now when setting up different Stratocasters.
I’m mad I just found this channel but I’m happy I did. Simple and straight to the point and most important not to confusing.
Super easy and straightforward, followed this video with Regular Slinkys and my Strat plays so much better than it ever has before!
This is the greatest guitar video I have ever seen. Told me everything I wanted to know in 5 seconds.
Thank you for the ever man's guide to set up. Watched other videos and became very confused. Thanks for clearing the fog in my eyes!!
Been looking for a while for the specs, thanks for the measurements reminder in the beginning
Absolutely informative! I'd like to see you make a video for beginners where you go from start to finish on an out of whack guitar. Again, good stuff!
I’ve been looking for all of this info, and have watched many videos in my search! Thanks!!!

Thanks for all this info , It worked great on my Fender Classic 60's Reverse headstock Stratocaster set up.

One of the best videos on the internet. Thanks for doing this!
You are jam up my friend. Thankyou. I copied your info onto index cards so that I will keep them handy. Im headed for my Strat right now. My guess work has failed me. Excited

That was so helpful, many thanks :)
Never heard of placing a capo on the 1st fret when adjusting the action. It does not say that on the Fender site either.
Super useful! thanks. do you have one like this for Teles?
Great video!
Damn good tutorial! Thanks much!
you do good work guitar guts i subscribed thanks for the tips

Good Job ! She sings like a little angel again :-)

Hi ,
Thanks for the video. I have an SX as well i noticed the trem block looks bigger did you put a fender in it?
Thanks
setup and messurements in player position or over the table as you?
Can I set every string to the same height if I have 7.25 radius neck? What’s the lowest I can realistically set that too ?
great info thank you
Wouldn’t an improper string height throw off your relief measurement since it’s relative to the bottom of the string? So you’d do string height first
It seems that a good set of feeler gauges would be very helpful.
Are these values the same for the new Player Series Stratocaster?
How tight are the bridge screws supposed to be?
why strats have put HBs in the bridge is beyond me. ( maybe it's they wanted them to sound more like any other strat shaped guitar, but with more oopmph..geez just get an LP lthen)...what's the measurement if you have a single coil in the bridge spot? thanks!
Is it mandatory for the bridge to be off the body? I don’t use a trem so my bridge is fixed (from factory I’ve never touched it)
Where can I find the mettalic calibration sheet?
What pickups are used in a 2018/19 Player HSS Strat?
Beautiful :)
great tutorial, how about the string heights adjustment on the individual saddles? Could you please make a video how and when do you need to adjust it within the step by step process.
String Heights should be the same across the Fretboard: 4/64" / 1/8" for each string. Those heights are adjusted w/ each individual Saddle using the little Hex Wrench that comes w/ your Strat. Do you leave the cappo on when measuring the pickup heights?
Thanks for making this video. I’ve referenced it at least a dozen times. Best set-up video for the Strat on YT.
AWESOME!
Will these specs work for a Squier Strat as well? Thanks!
