As a Taiwanese, this video just brings back so many memories. The term "神奇寶貝" is an old Taiwanese Mandarin translation of "Pokemon". However, in 2016, Nintendo aimed to "standardize" the translation across Chinese-speaking regions, so they changed it to "寶可夢", which is just a transliteration of "Pokemon". It's heartening to see that somewhere out there, "神奇寶貝" is still on someone's shelf, bearing witness to history.
Elliot after finding a piece of lost media nobody knew about and just peacing out without dumping the rom like nothing happened. Yeah it's a bootleg but it's still lost media
I dumped my copy of the Pokemon Emerald game by Sintax if you are interested. I posted it to the Bootleg Games Central forums under its Chinese name, 口袋妖怪绿宝石
The Pokémon “Green” was probably just Pokémon Blue. It started with the same animation and the sprites are from that game as well. The original Pokémon Green had different (and very ugly) sprites that got redesigned for Blue. Then we got Pokémon Blue sprites for our Red and Blue versions everywhere else in the world.
In the last game (the platformer with Raichu) I'll guess all of this: - The grounds sprites look ripped from Super Mario World - The music and probably some sounds are from GB Castlevania - I'm pretty sure the frame around Mewtwo in the game over screen is from the title screen of Super Mario Bros 2
To this day I watch YT vids like this in hopes to find out the game I played in Kindergarten. It's similar enough to regular Pokemon at a glance, but all you do is throw balls or rocks at some sprites approaching you from the edges of the screen. I know Onyx was one of the sprites, but I don't remember much else anymore. It was what I assumed Pokemon was until I actually played it in 2nd or 3rd grade.
I am jealous of those knock off Pokemon carts. I need to keep a better eye on stuff like that - pretty difficult to find online though since most sites don't allow bootlegs like that for sale.
I love a load of them, I have a few that I've collected over the years because of the novelty of them, you won't find these games for download anywhere else too
@@ashens2 I know someone who got a hold of a copy (I don't think they have a spare though). It is an alternate version of a platformer starring Chikorita

Your Keith Haring video has really stuck with me since it came out, and recently inspired me to write my final A Level essay in art about him. Thank you for putting so much effort into all your videos!
Looks like a romhack of a wonderboy/monsterworld game with the dropped pink boots and tunic at the start with sprites turned into pokemon.....thats a wierd one.
I have a old bootleg copy of “need for speed” for the gba that i can’t handle anymore, it’s so weird it has a battery and off brand cart designs similar to this
The third game with the charmander, clefairy and squirtle on the front is actually blue version, not green. The jigglypuff battling gengar in the game's intro and the sprites gave it away.
Your Pokemon Green version was actually Blue version with a green pallet and a modified title screen. Pokemon red has a Charmander standing next to the player sprite, blue has a Squirtle and Green has Bulbasaur as the first Pokemon after booting.
I'm just thankful my parents weren't the ones that fell for the fake game or console bs that flew around when I was a kid honestly cause I know explaining why it's the wrong game or console would've been hell
Wait wait, what is that teal gameboy with the led screen that he is using? It looks astonishingly beautiful. Ok he does say analogue pocket, I looked it up and it's pretty pricey for what it is. Still very tempting, lol.
That one game saying Niutiude or whatever on the logo screen probably has something to do with the Analogue Pocket not running it. Also, I thought hacking a custom logo onto that screen while still booting was only possible on the DMG and GB Pocket. Those read the logo from the cartridge once to verify it and then again to display it, making it possible for a cartridge to present the correct Nintendo logo the first time and then the custom one to show. While the GBC and GBA read it once and both check and display what they read.
Is that last one some bootleg Castlevania they put a Pokemon skin on? That music is definitely from the Game Boy trilogy and that attack sound is the Vampire Killer.
Pokemon Green was changed to Blue when it was localized by Nintendo of America because they thought Blue would sell better in the West. Blue is the one that truly never left Japan
I have Pokemon Black and White 3 on Game Boy Color as Pokemon Crystal graphics and plays like Pokemon Black and White it's pretty sick and then I got the orange the Indigo League ones pretty dope and a few other bootlegs that are sick based on story lines
You are kind of right but kind of wrong about us not getting Green. The localized versions of Red and Blue are JP Red and JP Green's encounter tables on their "third version" -- which was Blue -- engine. We got Blue's art and bugfixes/stability, but Red and Green's adventure. The only reason we didn't get "Green" is that the NoA thought Blue/Blastoise would be more popular than Green/Venusaur. We have Red and a re-labled Green on a 1.1 engine. (I think Yellow could be considered 1.2?). The only reason Green is considered "so different" is that we didn't ever get to see 1.0, and it's even more of a glitchy mess than what we got.
We didn't get any of the japanese Pokémon red, green or blue. The Pokémon red and blue we got in the West was the Japanese Pokémon blue with the Pokémon placement of japanese red and green. The actual japanese Pokémon blue had unique placement for all of the Pokémon. You could get all of the trade evolution Pokémon from the npc that trade with you. What we got was more like an official rom hack of japanese Pokémon blue. I know this information because I have played through japanese Pokémon red, green and blue. Red and green were pretty much the same game, and blue was unique.

4:18 That's a hack of Pokémon blue, not Green. Pokémon Green didn't had a Jigglypuff in the intro animation and the trainer was on the right side of the screen without a Pokéball on its hand. They just changed the version name in the title screen.
You called a Mankey a Meowth and it made me irrationally upset.
My day was ruined.
I wonder if he did it on purpose knowing 🤔 it would be Irritating? Clearly that was Brock at the end there but said nothing...
ikr, Meowth is my favourite and have tattoos.. bruh haha
also Mewtwo XD
I haven't paid attention to Pokemon since the 90s, and even I was like wth dude.
He also called Mewtu Mew...
"is that raichu"
"pink mew"
"it's meowth"
Can't tell if I'm being wound up
Old bootlegs always intrigued me because there wasn't exactly an effort to replicate the actual style but instead making it appealing.
I'm Chinese and I used to play the Pokemon Red version showing in the video when I was a kid. It's so hilarious to see in Elliot's video

If Elliot ever watched the anime, i bet he could never get the "Who's that pokemon?" during the show.

That sounds like castlevania game sounds. The whip strikes heart pickups the death music.
Yup.
