    Needed to create a video looping kiosk for an up coming event, so I was extremely pleased to find your up-to-date implementation of a video looper. Nice job showing how to use the Raspberry Pi Imager. Great explanation of setting up the Raspberry Pi OS and doing the SUDO commands. The Remote access (SSH) is good info but didn't use it to implement. Just used the standard monitor and keyboards. However I will reference this video when I need to do a remote access project. Keep up the good work. Hey do you happen to have a video on how to setup a wired and wireless NAS?

    Can I do this with the raspberry pi ZERO? Is the video quality on the Raspberry zero the same as the Raspberry you are using? Do any of the raspberry's have internal memory to save the video on, or do you always need to leave the USB in the raspberry? Can you please show how to make the raspberry play the the video automatically on boot, like if it was headless? Also, you don't need to continue to be connected to WiFi right? Only during software loading right, after that all you need is the USB to work?

    • @WillLawson
      @WillLawson  4 года назад +1

      Hi Jack, 1. Yes you can use the Pi Zero 2. Yes it will be 1080p HD quality 3. The micro SD card you load Raspbien onto acts as internal memory as well depending on how much storage it is rated as. The SD card I used was 8 gig :) 4. For the video loop to start there needs to be a USB inserted with the movies on it, so yes there will need to be a USB left in the raspberry bu they are pretty low cost :) 5. If you leave the USB inserted into the Raspberry and boot it up the videos will play automatically. 6. No, you don't need to be connected to Wifi, only if you want to shut down the Pi over a wireless network to prevent corrupting the operating system SD card or the USB with the movie files on it. You can also use hotspot from your phone like I showed in the video. Hope this helps. -Will

      @@WillLawson Thank you for your response. I have some more questions. I am planning on using this in an art piece t that will be on continues play for hours, maybe all day. Do I need a cooling device/fan/heat sink pad ect.. some forums and sites say yes for different versions, Would I need it for the Zero? I read that the raspberry transfers reading or something when it gets which then slows down speed or something like that? Another concern I have is with the USB getting hot which they tend to do, thus over heating and eventually or quickly breaking or damaging the Raspberry pi. Is this a possibility? Is there a micro SD card that has enough storage space so I don't need a usb drive , Would a 16gb be enough for a 5min video in 1080p hd or 32gb? Can you recommend a genuine microsd card brand that is dependable? I plan on buying a bunch of Raspberry pi's and using them on a wide variety of different size screens (cheap LCD screens that I can find on ebay), can I adjust the display resolution on the Pi to fit the screen just like I do on windows 10?
      I just subscribed to your channel and gave the video a thumbs up

      1. A few different video artists I've seen, have had their raspberry pi model 3 or 3b+ playing in gallerys for up to 4 days without them over heating, so I don't believe they need any extra cooling. Could be different for Pi Zero though.
      2. Also haven't heard of USBs overheating and breaking either, but maybe a test is in order. happy to setup a Raspberry Pi zero for a number of days and get back to you with the results if this helps.
      3.16gb is more than enough. even a 8GB should be large enough for a 5 minute video in 1080p.
      4. This setup unfortunately requires the use of a USB, Sandisk is a reliable genuine brand for micro sd cards and USBs though.
      I've been looking to pick up a Pi Zero to make an adblocker for a TV with streaming services those ads can get annoying!, so happy to do that test with the Pi Zero if it suits your time frame for the art project. Otherwise you might be better off doing a test with one setup first before making the investment in multiple. All the best Jack.

      @mr_hppd348 4 года назад

      @@WillLawson thank you for your response. I would greatly appreciate any tests you can do. When you say that your set up only works with a USB, is that because the software you are using will only recognize/compatible with/play the video if is on a USB drive? Could you please recommend/make a video that shows a setup that can work with just a micro SD card and software that doesn't have a blank screen in between the restarting of the loop? Also could you make another video showing how to install a power off button on the raspberry device like people would use with a headless setup?

      Hello Irfaan, thanks for the question If you'd like to change from usb_drive to directory, update the configuration to look like:
      #file_reader = usb_drive
      file_reader = directory
      To choose the directory that will be used for movies, scroll down to this part of the configuration and change the value of the path configuration:
      # Directory file reader configuration follows.
      [directory]
      # The path to search for movies when using the directory file reader.
      path = /home/pi
      but in your case you would probably use path = //servername/video make sure the Pi is connected to the same network your trying to retrieve the video from otherwise it won't work. Hope this helps. :)
