While I’m not usually a fan of CGI in anime, I think it really fits here and adds to the unsettling atmosphere. The black and white was a good choice for a Junji Ito adaptation.
Is rotoscoping considered cgi?
it is not really CGI or at least not alone it is a combination of CGI and rotoscoping where thing are all 2d for the most part but they are simply drawn over CGI and real life motion
Yeah, I like to think they save the more complex movements are rotoscoped while the simpler shots are done with reference from animators

Yeah Uzumaki means spiral. Naruto Uzumaki is named after the Narutomaki 🍥 fish cake found in ramen that has a spiral on it. Also in Naruto, the Uzumaki clan symbol from the Land of Eddies is a spiral. 🌀

Boruto is also a Japanese pronounciation of “bolt” which is an object threaded with a spiral.

Junji Ito the most famous japanese horror mangaka. Everyone who knows his work has been very hyped for this. It's been a great adaptation so far, really capturing the visceral horror of the manga

I ❤it. Big fan of Junji Ito’s work. Very Lovecraftian, in fact I read that he is also known as Japan’s Lovecraft. I just got another of his masterpieces “TOMIE”. To me it feels rotoscoped vs 3DCGI. Love it. The spiral 🌀 reminded me of the mathematical concept called golden ratio, specially in nature and life. Google that out and you may never see a spiral the same way again.

as someone who read the manga, you guys are NOT prepared for the hospital scene, it was a traumatising scene and im not ready to be traumatised again by the anime
You are wrong about one thing, it looks so good n eerie BECAUSE it is in black n white with a lot of sketchlines. The author Ito Junji had a lot of his other works adapted in color n it looks bad, it just too much color n distract away from his art that makes it eerie in the first place. U guys shud continue to watch it, the story is bigger than just few incidents, n the author is not just creating gory events but he knows that true horror for human is their minds n the fear of the UNKNOWN, not becos of a physical creature or monster or ghost (cos if u can talk n know a ghost u wont be afraid of them anymore). Uzumaki is one of his greatest work ever, can u imagine this series was started adapted from his works back in 1998

When it comes to Junji Ito stories it always gets MUCH WORSE except Cat Diary: Yon & Mu that's just looks creepy because of the art style

if youve ever watched Hereditary or The Menu, Colin Stetson's style of music should be recognizable

ironically, junji ito's work is tamer in color. They've tried to adapt his works before but nothing compares to this. There was even a saying that you cannot adapt a junji ito manga because the colors lose the creepy feeling of the images. And so adult swim did the unthinkable and made Uzumaki in black and white to preserve that eeriness of the manga images. Junji Ito's work is creepier in black and white.
