They released a podcast episode and they talked about how they were suspecting something was going on until they saw the photos and went “oh this is happening” and took action. So they didn’t know for sure until they saw the pictures, got really distraught (they had been friends for years and felt betrayed and hurt) and had to make sure Ned couldn’t sue for wrongful termination etc. I don’t know if they could’ve terminated him if he cheated with someone outside the company even if they wanted to. It was probably such a 180 even for them

It doesn’t work that way when there is a power imbalance. Ned was the person in authority who could end Alex’s career if she refused him. Yes Alex is in the wrong but much much less so than the person who was her employer who engaged in a predatory and illegal workplace sexual relationship.

That’s not why. There’s a power imbalance with a company OWNER and an EMPLOYEE. It opens up lawsuits because Alex (employee) could sue for being coerced or say that her job was threatened if she didn’t begin a relationship with Ned. If she were to get promoted, it again causes issues because she was intimate with her boss and might be seen as unfair. Other employees could speak up about how she might have received special treatment or if she were paid more than them, because of having a relationship with Ned. It puts their company in a very vulnerable position for legal action against them. Even if all that wasn’t the case, he should still be fired for cheating since his wife is an active member within their company.

Fully believe the “wife guy” role started to become oppressive to Ned and he felt like since he’d made it his whole identity, he couldn’t “escape” a situation that no longer made him happy, so he started to cheat instead out of temptation but more so resentment against his wife and colleagues. That’s why he made it so obvious, he kind of subconsciously wanted to get revenge on the people around him. He didn’t realize that he was guaranteed to get caught and it would only backfire on him and destroy his life, because he’s completely un-self-aware. He was the wife guy but if he had simply divorced his wife he could have saved his life from the utter destruction it’s in now. He probably would have retained his role at the company and they could have pivoted their content and figured it out eventually, although it would have been dramatic it wouldn’t have blown up like this. None of this surprises me at all. The majority of the people I met who based their entire personality around their relationship were either cheating on their partner, or arguing with them all the time in public.
For real! The only situation where I can see the whole “my partner = my personality” thing being kinda understandable is for those couples who start dating at like 13 or 14 and stay together well into their adulthood. I’m sure most of those high school sweetheart types end up being totally normal, but since kids around that age are figuring out/establishing their self-image, I can imagine how easy it would be to start seeing “I’m __’s bf/gf” as like an essential part their identity, y’know? The couples I know like that act almost like two halves of a whole instead of two fully-realized individuals, if that makes sense lol
