Thanks for the honorary mention. I think there’s one Directive 8020 Easter Egg you missed. At the end of The Devil in Me, the Curator says that maybe we will meet “in the future.”
Here are maybe two more that you guys missed. They could be referencing The Craven Man. The empty room in the prologue is called the Rathlin Suite, maybe referencing the Rathlin Island from Zain's map. Playing this game right after launch, there was this glitched book that you can't view. The book was about bird watching in the British Isles.
Oh god yes! Completely forgot about these two - so well remembered! With all the clues, it does seem incredibly likely that we'll get at least one game in Britain, which I am chuffed about. ~ Jack
Imagine in Directive 8020 having all characters survive until the end only to lose them all by crashing the ship when trying to return home like the plaque foreshadowed, kinda like the Man of Medan ending where everyone gets gunned down by the military. And when the magazine mentions ‘stasis technology’ it got me thinking, what if this stasis tech utilizes the fluid from House of Ashes that kept Kurum/Balathu alive for centuries and kept Rachel cocooned. We saw at the end of HOA that the analysis team recovered some in a vial, maybe they’ve been able to replicate its functions in the time between HOA and D8020? I also wonder if we will encounter the bat creatures which weren’t infected by the parasite since we are heading to the Cetus Constellation which they originated from, if Mary Hodgson was right then they may be friendly and something else is the true threat. Another thing is that in Little Hope you can find an article about the Apollo 10 and 11, I think this may be the prologue of D8020. I’m almost certain that Winterfold will take place in the actual Winterfold forest in the UK especially since it is circled on Zain’s map in HOA. For The Craven Man I still think it will take place on Rathlin Island, both TDIM and HOA make reference to it specifically and it would make sense with all the Irish folklore. My guess is that it will be a cult horror. And Intercession I’m not really sure, I was thinking about exorcism and demons but the stuff you guys mentioned is very interesting! Great video guys! I’d definitely be a fan of a video about references to past games :)
Agreed! The prologue for D8020 is certainly something I'm curious to know. Especially since it could be set in the past, present or future 🤔 plus how much it ties in with HoA because the links are so apparent!! Thanks for your support as always Kade! ~ Jack
@@ButterflyEffectPodcast Ok so I’ve been doing a bit of digging and found something quite interesting about Winterfold, basically the actual Winterfold forest has this urban legend called “The Acrid Critter of Winterfold”. The story goes that in 1967 two lovers by the names of Philip Freeman and Angela Carter (maybe foreshadowing from LH?) were driving through the forest when suddenly there was a thick fog that clouded the car’s windows so Philip got out to clean them. But then noticed a disgusting smell, before getting back in the car he noticed something by Angela’s window, I’ll use the exact wording of the article I found here ‘It stood around 4 and a half feet tall and though it had a face, the thing had no eyes, nose or a mouth. To Philip it appeared to be emitting a faint light where the details of its oblong face should have been. He then noticed something that could have been an arm touching the hood of his car but the thing made no other movements or gestures.’ Philip then got back into the car and drove away but he looked in rear-view mirror and saw the thing again and it seemed like the creature didn’t have any legs. That’s basically the entire story, there were no follow ups or any other information really. But Philip did draw a sketch of the creature, unfortunately it just looks like he’s drawn a fucking teapot aha. So that’s it maybe there’s something useful here and the game will have something to do with the urban legend or maybe not.
@@kadeavison7996 hmmm very interesting! Has echoes of The Quarry prologue about it. We do know that SM like using urban legends as inspiration so it is possible. Maybe the zombie poster is TDIM is a red herring? Interesting too because the more I think about it, the more I can't envisage zombies for some reason. They'd need a lot of character models which isn't something they usually have in these games. ~ Jack
@@ButterflyEffectPodcast That is a very good point about how they’d need a lot of character models! I hadn’t even thought of that. Back in Man of Medan when Brad is hallucinating the WW2 soldiers as zombies they all use the same character model, I think if they did that for a full game it would be very noticeable so I’m not sure what they could do about that.
Guys! I think I found one. Jessie Buckley from Devil in Me is in a film called Men. This could hint that the next Supermassive game will have men in it. Obviously because I extensively researched this, you do not have permission to share this Easter egg as i don't want you taking credit for my work.
A game set in Ireland would be very cool. I don’t know why, but I’ve always liked Ireland for some reason. I can see Craven Man or Intercession, if I had to bet, I’m gonna say Craven Man, that’s the game I hope comes after Directive 8020 and Intercession will be set in. If Intercession is in Ireland though, I hope it has something to do with the Banshee. As for the Yellow Cross book, I didn’t notice they were by the same author, hmmm. I wonder if this T.S. Hartley could be a potential future protagonist they name dropping ahead ahead of his future game like they did with Kate Wilder; maybe his character like to travel to places a get inspiration for the books he writes, that could be an interesting character idea. Also, I never advertise my accounts for other sites, but I’m making an exception because of something you guys once said that inspired me. A few days ago, I remembered you said if the Devil in Me were a book or movie, you’d have the Ultimatum ending be the ending. I’m not writing Devil in Me, I started with House of Ashes since if this doesn’t do well and decide not to do more I at least want the one I do to be my favorite one, but if I do do Devil in Me, I will write it with the Ultimatum ending where Du’Met shoots Kate and Mark. I’ve got 2 chapters downloaded so far and three written out, just started the fourth. Regarding your comment on T.S. Hartley being a potential future protagonist. It's possible, but unlikely. It is unlikely that he would be a present day protagonist. The reason being is that T.S. Hartley's book "The Shroud of Innocence" appears in the Clarke Family home in Little Hope during the prologue which takes place in 1972. Assuming that the book was a new release at the time and assuming the author was in their 20s at that time then that would put T.S. Hartley's age in their early 70s as of 2023. We know based on the hotel registry that the Devil in Me takes place on October 26, 2022. We don't know if the "Yellow Cross" book in Charle's room was a new book or used book/reprint. Then again Stephen King is 75 years old and is still writing. There's also the fact that Supermassive Games likes to keep the endings open ended. While everyone would say that the "Everyone Survives" ending is the True Ending, the devs won't confirm it because who lives and who dies is left up to the player's experience. For this reason I consider it unlikely that T.S. Hartley would be a protagonist, unless they are a prologue character that dies. If they is the protagonist of a game whose main story takes place in the past. The presence of "The Yellow Cross" in the present would imply that they survived which would go against Supermassive's Open Ended ending structure. I hope I'm making sense.
@@puzzle1022 Now that you point that out, I realize I didn’t think of that. So Hartley would have to be either a prologue protagonist or a playable character of advanced age, which could be interesting or we’ll just get more books. I was wondering what you think of this for release order predictions: personally, I think after Directive 8020 it'll go Craven Man > Intercession > Winterfold (Season Finale) but I could also totally see why they'd go Craven Man > Winterfold > Intercession, as ending season 2 with a game set entirely within the past (at least in my opinion) would be equally as cool as a game set during a zombie apocalypse, simply because no DPA game has been set wholly within the past before (House of ashes Doesn't Count, it's way too recent), and there is a lot of evidence pointing towards intercession being set in the past.
