most men with sisters or daughters would prefer having them married to a Col Brandon than a Willoughby type.

I love how Miss Jennings redeems herself here, in a way. Up till now she’s seemed like an untrustworthy rampant gossip and nothing more. But here we see she absolutely has morals, and her loyalty to the sisters is unshakeable.

Poor Marianne, my heart always breaks for her in this scene, but at least she fell for the more honest, less flashy Brandon.

One of my favorite movies. Everyone brought their A game in terms of their acting. I never read the book so don't know how well it was adapted to the big screen, but I love it and have watched it many times.

I love that she has a sister and a friend who tell her he's a dick and that she can do better. Then let her cry while they get her snacks.

You will always hurt more if you believe more in the possibility that one you love will not marry someone they are seriously dating and especially more so if you keep hoping and you hear of the approximate time the marriage will take place, rather than believing in the probability that they will marry that person. Hoping for a different outcome is fine, but hoping strongly in such an outcome will bring more heartache or more serious consequences as the movie later shows.

This movie would have been perfect, but they cast Emma Thompson, 20 years too old for the part.

Alan Rickman and Hugh Grant are too old as well, why mention only Emma? I’m more not comfortable with Rickman and Kate Winslet’s age difference. Emma wrote the screenplay movie wouldn’t be possible without her contribution. If there’s any person outside her age we should allow to play the role, it should be Emma.

@@Girl-rj3qe Perhaps if Alan Rickman and Hugh Grant switched roles. Hugh Grant looks young for his age.

@@flora235___7 He looks 35 to me. People just got used to watching very young female leads next to older actors that’s why Emma Thompson seems so jarring to people. I don’t agree to switching either since Edward Ferrars is much younger than Colonel Brandon, making Rickman’s age difference to his character worst.

I loved Emma in the role even though she was supposed to be only 19 years old & was really 35. But the same for Hugh Grant he was also supposed to be 19 but was 35 years old. The only one that played his age was Alan Rickman who was 35 & played a 35 year old Colonel Brandon.
