- For Episode 4 of ERA's we have a guy from the Pacific Northwest who happens to be one of the best guys to ever race a dirt bike; Ryan Villopoto. Sure he has 10 championships but let's answer the important question, can Ryan Villopoto ride an old 2 stroke? Today at Chaney Ranch we find out on this 1993 YZ125 during a head to head lap time challenge. In the "ERA's" series, I will ride Every bike, Racing anyone, Anywhere! As far as 2 stroke riders, Jeremy McGrath was my idol as a 90's kid. Wish I could see him in his prime vs. Carson race today on 500cc bikes. That would be a PPV worthy event, IMO 🤘

Anybody that doesnt ride should pay attention to how important Fitness is when riding. Riding is much more physically demanding then most people realize.
Nobody will understand until they get on a bike. Everyone I've gotten into it is stunned at how much just normal riding takes it out of you, let alone high level riding on track.

I'm the only one of my riding buddies that maintained my fitness levels into my late 30s. I usually take a fully-dressed KTM690 with panniers, luggage, and all out on 18psi and still outride my friends on their enduro 250 and 300 2-strokes. I also go the other way with a yz125x. Haven't ridden moto in years, but I can run a 20min 5k so I wouldn't be worried about it. Skill and fitness but both matter.
A guy out of Australia recently did a study of professional athletes and his study determined pro motocross and supercross is the #1 most physically demanding sport in the world. Highest heart rates over the longest period of time over every single other sport. Some heart rates measured up to 210 bpm. So its literally the hardest sport in the world

My first 'motocross' bike was a 1993 yz80, in year 2001. Love this era.

I had a ‘94 fully restored it years ago it was pretty slow but so light and so much fun I had more interest at the local than my modern bikes
94 was quite a bit faster than the 93. A competitor of mine raced a 93 and besides a full pro circuit motor, he had to retro fit a motoplat ignition. To fully wake it up.

I had this bike! I bought it from a local NESC expert named Todd Richotte back in the day. Fun fact - In 1986, Todd beat another local amateur named Doug Henry for the 1986 NESC 125cc amateur championship. Todd still rips to this day, and the bike I was able to procure from him was built to the hilt. Although the motor was tweaked to the max, it still wasn't as fast as a bone stock 1993 Honda CR 125. I remember this bike as being ultra stable as the frame was reinforced at every weld. I've never ridden another bike that instilled so much confidence going through the rough stuff. I could ball through the nastiest natural terrain that was roughed up by thousands of laps of every bike known to man, and that bike would stay straight as an arrow. I'm sure it had something to do with the suspension being professionally tuned along with that reinforced frame. I really miss that bike.
Be sick if you could get RC and Bubba on here on a 125 or 250. All 3 go against eachother, maybe even throw reed in there also

RC or JS7 aren’t doing anything like this anymore I promise you that.. an not that they can’t obviously but they don’t want too they have both said that they’re not doing any racing of any kind on a dirt bike anymore.

This is the Greatest thing in MX today. . . . Now we just need to improve on what the ama is doin . The AMA has futures class in SX. . What the Nationals need is a 125 class, Combined 250 2t&4t class, & Open (unrestricted).

This is awesome! I cant wait to see the WR500 in action with CB vs RV! The old air cooled bikes can be more reliable if set up correctly. I own some cool yamahas myself. 82 yz490j 80 yz250 and 81 it175.
I had a 1993 YZ 125 back in the early 2000s and it was, hands down, the best handling bike I've ridden before or since. It was pretty quick, too if you kept it on the pipe. Excellent motorcycle.

Great bikes, bit of porting some boyesen reeds and a pipe they really wake up nice and the handling is briliant for the era 👍
Even after that they're slower than a stock 93 cr125. My friend that raced a 93 yz (against me) did all that plus had to go to a motoplat ignition. The ignition was what really woke it up. According to him. It was fast.
@@OGLizardKingwell you've got to sent the bike to a decent tuner that ports and tunes for the parts on the rolling Road or its a guessing game, at least when done properly they are quick for the era, I've always been a honda guy and still own them and have also owned 2 93 cr125 great bikes but the handling of the 93-95 yz was briliant regardless and having it properly tuned which I assume your mate didn't makes a big difference 👍
