I'll be 2 years sober at the end if this month.only thing that got me through it was working on vehicles and mowers you had a big part in that, So thank you. I'll be following along with this project, looking forward to more updates!
Brother I feel for everything you've shared in this video. I've been abusing substance for the past 10 years. The amount of projects I've started while being in a terrible state, only to wreck things and move backwards. Most of my memories bring me to shame. You are a hero and a legend for not giving up, having the guts to talk about it publicly. I'm here for ya in spirit. Never give up my friend.
I feel your pain , have been down that same road myself However in order to get to where we are now , we have to come from somewhere Keep growing and keep dreaming
I am sorry to hear that you struggled with alcohol addiction. Like so many others I also struggled with alcoholism most of my life. The biggest step in recovery is admitting you have a problem and facing those demons head on. We cant change the past or who we were when we were using but we can change path in the future and be a better person. I have definitely messed up my vehicles working on them drunk. Being able to revisit failed project might be very painful at the time but when you can correct past mistakes it can be very healing. I hope the best for you in your recovery. If you need a sober buddy to wrench on the Monte Carlo I'd be happy to help my father owned the same 83 SS!
Holidays alone are rough man I wouldn't be so ashamed I thought there was drunk driving involved but nobody got hurt and it sucks but we all have are rough patches and Im really excited to see you working on it and the pain now will turn into happiness when you finally get it done
Thank you for Sharon I had a brother that was alcoholic he just died at 54 years old I I do know what you mean you it's day-by-day he wouldn't stop drinking was always Skinny and the one picture I notice you start to get a stomach on them and he went down to Florida and gonna work on a tractor and I just dropped it at 54 years old I appreciate you taking us along this journey and so many ways you'll never no don't have my brother with me anymore I tried to work with Him on so many different jobs but it just couldn't stop drinking But his wife tells me that I had to get used to him drinking That's why it's important to me to walk with you on this journey I appreciate you Sharon
I've been married, divorced, and remarried (thankfully no kids from the first). Sometimes my wife will ask why I listen to some of the music that I do (think sad, think old country), I'll redilly reply: "To remind me how good I've got it now." Don't lose sight of the past but don't forget how good the simple pleasures are. You've come a long way in a positive direction.
Hey Bro. I KNOW where you're coming from. Years on alcohol and heroin then I got clean and sober. Owned 7 paint and body shops then 20 yrs in prison for hurting someone. Now I'm a free man but still remember my past so I don't make those mistakes again. Building my wife a 66 C 10 and working on me a Rat Rod lawnmower. Legally blind but I keep on trying Stay Strong Bro.
I commend you for cleaning your life up, now you and John could live the great life you and your family deserve. If you ever need someone to talk or talk shop a little, please don't hesitate to contact me. Keep up the great work, keep your head up.
I installed front springs in the rear... it made the handling awesome...I put 245 60 16's on mine... I could slide3 it sideways at 60 MPH... mine had the 225 hp 305
Lost my father to addiction about 5 years ago I think about him every day glad you stopped not only for yourself but for you son sure wish my father would have but not everyone wins
Just take it one day at a time. Your a strong man, alcoholism runs in my family, I’ve reached the age of 21 without touching it. I doubt I ever will for fear of addiction. Thankfully it dosent call to me like the tractors do. One thing I’ve learned on emotional projects is to touch it at least once a day. Whether it be unhooking the battery one day, then hooking up the battery the next day, it keeps your mind in the game.
I know where you are coming from, I struggled myself with alcohol for most of my life. I hated myself at times, but I quit years ago and I'm glad you did to. Stay strong brother 💪
Wow, I knew there were some major problems but I am so glad you made it through. It looks like you are in a much better place now. You have a great girlfriend and an awesome son.
I'm also an alcoholic. I started drinking heavily after my grandfather passed in Jan 2015. After my son was born 2015 I slowed down. Now instead of drinking a 30 pack a night for 5 years. I might drink once a week.
Man, I've had dreams where I've torn apart my vehicles on some kind of alcohol or drug fueled blackout. But I've never actually woke up to such destruction. I take that back. One time i stripped down an old land line telephone, thinking it was my alarm clock, and i was cleverly disabling from waking me up the next morning. Boy was i disappointed.
The not my welds got me lol. As an alcoholic those were your welds. That's one thing I noticed when I quit drinking my welds and hand writing got better. That car really doesn't look that bad tho.
As a fellow G-Body owner, that car is totally fixable if you are motivated enough. Just get your suspension back together and make it roll, make it stop, clean and inventory everything and make sure there are no rust related deal breakers before you worry about getting it running. You are more than welcome on the G body forums if you need any help or are looking for parts. A someone who has had to do a life reboot themselves, I think you have done pretty well for you and yours, all things considered. Some people never get themselves together and lose everything in the process. You've came a long way from the cabin.
I know what can do remorse. It hurts a lot, but you will have to scratch that till it will bleed and, I hope so, you will heal. Keeping my fingers crossed for that project. If you can, weld patches, replace all rotted steel, rather bondo-ing crap out of it :)
I remember videos from back then, with your first wife and when both kids were quite young. From what I remember, you definitely didn't appear to be a heavy drinker in your videos. I remember a Q&A video, with the boy's mother reading off the questions and you answering them.
I was what they call a high functioning alcoholic. It's the same idea as Doctors who take pain pills all day yet pull off surgery. Your fine as long as you have the drug of choice. But more then an hour without and the shakes start. I was so bad I drank a shot and a beer going to bed. A beer at midnight often times another at 3am then a beer and whiskey with my coffee
KEEP THE CHIN UP YOU'VE HAD UPS AND DOWNS BUT YOU HAVE A SON AND A GREAT GIRLFRIEND WHO THINK THE WORLD OF YOU👍. THE PHOTO OF YOUR DADS MOTOR LOOKS COOL... Keep calm and carry on... Nice video 😊🏎️. 🚓🚓
Hey, gess, what ? Your not the only one who has been down that road. Time to brush it off and go get it. The slate is clean start a new chapter with your son rebuilding this dream. Enjoy the rest of your life. The rear view mirror is just that. It's all behind you know
That Would Have Been Really Hard Talking About Your Past & being A Alcoholic. Good To See That You Are Past That Stage In Life & You Have Your Son With You Now - Take Care & Don't Look Back
We all fuck up my friend, you are not that guy anymore. Let me know if you want a hand, first off de-smog that poor thing... you'll need a new distributor, a carb or modify that one and remove/block off all that air piping garbage. I used to specialize in making those 80s GMs run right and it's been a while.

Thank you for sharing, tough start but you have done a great job for yourself, Jessi and John. Keep up the good work and looking forward to more.
Thank you for sharing this. I think as you uncover some of the parts that you have in that garage, you'll be even more motivated. I'm tuned in.
Utmost respect for you for beating your addiction
Keep moving forward. I have A project in my garage that needs me sober so I feel ya brother.
Hey Neil, Take it one day at a time. You got this. Hope to see it back on the road soon.
I know where you are coming from, I struggled myself with alcohol for most of my life. I hated myself at times, but I quit years ago and I'm glad you did to. Stay strong brother 💪

I have to say that I’m really excited for this build I love these cars

Inventory right now is the big thing. The big items are all there its just figuring out if they survived the last 10 years of neglect.
You have alot to rediscover. Great car.
Looking forward to seeing it driving!

Just another reason to give you a thumbs up man. I still just can't get right in 23 years.
For a good start of a project.
