Taylor just wanna let you know how appreciative I am for be able to learn to and attempt to do stuff on my own, you made me want to do a swap so bad I I finally got my first start up two days ago went from a v6 to v8 and you made me feel so comfortable tackling it after all your builds I’ve watched
Dude this is awesome! Thanks for letting me know this! Congrats!
I hear ya on that one, I've done engine rebuilds and stuff but after watching the cefiro build and seeing how great that has turned out I'm going to be doing the tdi swap on my ford ranger soon.
@@Taylordrifts you are super educational. and make these big projects feel less stressful than they really are.
it's at 69 likes can't ruin it
Ya, I'm still not washing my truck, but I'll watch Taylor putt around in his shop all day long.
The video we have all been waiting for sence we seen this car!
You need to put a vacuum tester on the power brake booster. The diaphragm could be leaking. Most people never expect it to leak.
Hey Taylor I had a 86 SS back in the day watching you clean this car up and driving it around feeling proud brings back some really good memories thanks.
You did a great job cleaning up this car, as I knew you would. Your Grandma should be proud she has such an awesome grandson. I hope we get to see her reaction to your work and her drive it again, that will be really cool.
Love that car. Bc My 1st car was an 85 ls. Dad and I made really nice until I totaled it…..
That monte carlo looks so sexy all cleaned up with its badging back on. Always loved those cars for its stance and body lines.
The car came out great. On the cold starts, the old rule was pump the gas twice, and foot on the floor for a cold start, and depending on the carb setup, light tap before starting for warm start.
Great job, love the Monte Carlo SS, I'm sure your grandmother will love seeing, driving her car again. Wish more kids took an interest in the cars older family members had when they were growing up!!
I can't help but wonder what Sam can do with it. Loving it so far.
Sam has plenty of cars to shine up as is. Anybody can do what sam does, even ole Taylor here.
Ol Sam would have her shining like a diamond. Can see the reflection your soul on it lmao
I thought the same thing , this unit will be mint with Sam .
So stoked to see what you do with this bad boy!
It’s surprising how nice the headliner is in that car. Usually they’re drooping or hanging down. I guess it’s from being under a shaded car port
This! 😂
being white probably helped keep the temps down even when it was in the sun
I think he mentioned that it was replaced
This car was pretty well taken care of. It may have sat but when it ran she got all the love.
We called the droopy headliners “Gnat Beaters”
Great looking SS! This is the video I was waiting for, so satisfying!!! A good body shop should be able to repair that rust and repaint from the bodyline down, I wouldn't repaint anything you don't have too.
Taylor if no one has already said it, there is a very affordable tool that you can buy on Amazon to help identify vacuum leaks. Tool has a cannister that you put baby oil in, has a small heater in the cannister, heats up and smokes the oil, tool connects to shop air and has an internal regulator set for 1psi output, air pressure pushes smoke through the vacuum system helping to identify leaks, cracked line, leaking gaskets, etc.
So much anticipation for this portion of the series! 😍😍
Also, that "enough jibber jabber" pocket t is one of the most comfortable shirts I own!
Thanks taylor!
I'm glad you like it! The pocket comes in so handy when wrenching! Lol
Turned out so good! Didn't even have to use a buffer or abrasive machine. 80s GM clearcoat is extremely thin/sensitive so that is huge.
Should be lacquer if it’s original.
This has been such an enjoyable series so far for me! My first car was a 1980 Monte Carlo that my dad and I rebuilt the engine in together. I drove it several years through high school and college. It still holds a place in my heart like all "first cars" do for car guys. Keep it up, Taylor!
I'm absolutely loving this build. Mom had a Monte Carlo, my in-laws met cruising their Monte Carlo's, and my grandma is in hospice right now with all of the memories we have of driving around together in Cadillac Seville. I am so happy you got to do this car justice and bring it back. Can't wait to see where you take this thing. Memories are the true time travelers.
Been looking forward to this video ever since you picked the car up! Can't wait to see your grandmas face when you show it to her and let her drive it again!
I enjoy that you split the videos evenly through these series but still pack them with a good amount of content. Keep it up, I experience too many other videos with 8 mins of intro/outro and jibber jabber😂
Dude, this has been one of my favorite builds so far because I have also been fortune enough to get one of my grandparents vehicles. I haven't been super motivated in fixing it up in a while but this has brought that spark back for me to get it done so thanks for that. I'm super stoked to see what you have in store for the Monte Carlo in the future because its already looking so good!
T-Ray! Next time your at the shops, grab some "fallout spray" / "Iron remover". It helps with little specks of rust all over the car, and would probably help clean up that lower door section.
I think we all knew she would clean up pretty well. But damn, it looks so amazing. Paint the door and the rear piece above the back bumper along with a paint correction on the whole thing and wow it would look brand new.
What a transformation, it's amazing the difference the new decals made.
The OCD in me was waiting for you to wash it last episode, I'm content now. This is one favorite body styles in the 80s era cars.
There's probably nothing more satisfying than a car wash video going from something that has 22 years of buildup and grime to affresh clean brand-new looking vehicle so satisfying
Yes! New video on the best car you own. (Ok Miata is equally as awesome.) Thanks for the amazing content Taylor! 🥰 Brightens up my day! 😍
Love how patient this guy is. Those old GM cars can be frustrating.
This has always been one of my favorite cars....super stoked for stage 2.0
I think it's great he doing a different type of build than his usual drift car project.
@@kzarnold3678 hopefully he keeps this stock...other than building the motor and maybe putting a Whipple on her ect 🤔😂
Man this is bring back so many memories! My first car was a 1979 Monte Carlo when I was 16. It had the same interior as yours but came with a Buick V6 for which I promptly swapped out with a 350 out of an Impala station wagon.
The car is looking great! Looking forward to more videos of your progress. As soon as I saw the oil leak I knew what it was, that happened to them quite often.
Looks really good. The carburator has a fast ideal choke. Check that. Also the door has drain holes in the bottom. If they clog you will get that rust on your door. Pull the door panel and reach in there and see if it's rusty or clogged. Good luck. Love this build. I love these cars. G body !!
Came here to say the same thing about the choke. Choke should kick down/off. Honestly that’s what it sounds like to me.
Speaking of the carb... holy hell, HOW?! it shouldn't even function after all these years but alas, here we are lol
@@fast97z24 you’re not lying. If was able to get ahold of something like this for anywhere near a decent price, I’d probably go all original. I mean everything is there already in mostly pretty dang good working order and shape. So after just initially getting it running, redoing to carb would be next mission. I’m not judging what the guy’s plans are with the car or anything but there’s tons of hot rodded monte Carlos out there. How many all original SS’s in that good of shape do you see out their. And it’s only going to get more rare as time goes by.
VGG would tell you to use some SOS steel wool pads to clean up that surface rust on the doors. You will be amazed at how well it works.
The moment we’ve all been waiting for the cleaning of the SS Monte Carlo. That car is in excellent condition and the fact it’s still in your family makes for a great story.
Now we can all be held in suspense waiting for the engine swap. I would go for a BBC even though a turbo LS would be a nice setup.
The car cleaned up nice now all you need is a set of Center Line Convo Pro rims. I had set of them back in the day on my Corvette and loved that trash can look.
Brud. I literally learned how to walk at my Grandad's Chevy dealership, first car was a 84 Monte Carlo. When I turned 16 in 92 these SS models were so hot and I wanted to drive them every chance I got. What I'm trying to say is your car here flips many many of my car switches. You've got a really great piece here and that it's a family car is such a cherry on top. Enjoy!
FINALLY! Been waiting for this!
Now to have grandma drive her old ride, also i will warn you Taylor the trunks on these cars are extremely difficult to track down.
Sure did bring me back to another point in life. Thank you Taylor and I'm sure the family is looking at the progress each episode in awe. Good friends and family always bring joy. Very nice work.
This is the video I've been waiting for. I subscribed to you after I stumbled across your first video you posted about this car, when you went and picked it up. I love these 80s Monte Carlo SS, and had one of my own, an '87. I loved and miss that car!
Can't believe how well kept this classic is. Those SS are such a Gem
If I had a dollar every time you said “20 years” I would have about 2,200 right now 😂
So sweet to see one of these getting restored and luved ... I remember cruising in one of these with a friend of mine back in the day and it was so cool cruising with the Ttops out .. thanks for the videos.
TAYLOR! Bro long time since I’ve left a comment. THIS is the video I was waiting for with this car, your killin it with the Monte Carlo content. Keep it up bro it’s turning out great and not to mention the family legacy you are restoring slowly but surely. That’s special, car is a true Gem for sure!
Such a sick car! Cleaned up amazing!! Love the clean stock look!
Would be really cool to see your grandmas reaction to what you did with the car!
My father told me "how you do anything is how you do everything" which means, do everything with detail. Making excuses about not caring for cleaning or stickers leaves your growth potential to suffer when you are willing to sacrifice. Anything worth doing is worth doing right
Right? Thank you. This irks me so much with Taylor. Oh it's 80% meh who cares attitude.
Those cars are so cool. The transformation is awesome cant wait to the next phase. Hope your grandmother loves what you done with her old car
So far love this series. I do not know how stock your plans are for it but a pro touring build would be quite interesting with keeping the OEM vibe. Best of luck!
Dupli-color black trim & bumper paint is your best friend when it comes to revamping an 80-90s car or truck!
Taylor just take a piece of the vinyl that you cut off and patch the little piece on the right front fender. That is if you didn't crumple it all up into a ball. It will look better patched than missing!
This takes me back to 17 year old me cruisin the main strip with my buddy in his M/C ss!! I loved that car and this one is in pretty sweet condition! good job Taylor!
Nice job! Funny, I know a lot of Grandmas who owned one of these Carlos. Best Grandma car ever.
Night and day difference man. Putting the decals on really set it off. We need a video of you showing it to your grandmother. I know she's gonna love it. And I'm sure your grandfather would love it too. Good job man!
So glad you got this car Taylor. My first car was an 87 Monte ss and I miss that car so much. These have been making my day!
That has to be one of the cleanest original monte carlos out there. I would be lying if I said I wasn't jealous. One of my favorite cars of all time.
Been waiting for this video for a week! Worked my butt off all weekend and this was the perfect Sunday night wind-down! Excited to see where this car goes.
Looks Amazing! Grandma is going to be so happy, I just know it. Can't wait to see the underneath to be cleaned up and prepared for the upgrades and new power plant. If it was me, I'd clean everything up and put on some Eastwood rust encapsulate
I love your description of why you only wash your cars rarely. I feel the same way
She is a clean car. Decals look great. I always loved the Monte SS. And the El Camino as well.
Good to see you still grinding content out mate , thanks for giving me the motivation to get my car built I love your content
Man this is soooo awesome to see a monte carlo ss on you tube getting brought back to life!!!!! Love the videos and cannot wait to see the build as it progresses!! I have a silver 86 SS with T-tops...... i have a bunch of engine parts to get installed and this is motivation for me to get back on it!!!! Keep it up !!!!
Best diagnostic tool I’ve ever found is a smoke machine. When I finished the build on my 67 Cougar, I couldn’t figure out why it wouldn’t idle and run right. I hooked up a smoke machine I made to a vacuum line and found and sealed all of my vacuum leaks. Car fired right up and ran perfect after that.
Those beauty rings, caps, and graphics REALLY sets this car off! I would rebuild the carb, get it idling correctly, get the rust door bottom fixed, etc. Then that car will be top notch! Congratulations and enjoy it!
As someone who get old cars started and driving again for a living, I’d highly recommend replacing just about every rubber component on the car. That being: tires, brake lines, fuel and evap lines, coolant hoses, and gaskets and seals as needed. It will make the car more reliable and safer to drive
The headliner not falling is the biggest surprise for me
I seriously didn't want the video to end, lol. I love breathing new life into things and cleaning/restoring them and this was right up my alley. That thing cleaned up so dang good and seems to be running so well. It honestly makes me wonder why it even sat for as long as it did at your families place? I know you have a phase 2 version in line for this thing, but I dunno if I'd be able to stop myself on adding some nice white lettered BFGoodrich's in the proper size to those wheels to REALLY make that thing pop. All in all, the thing came out amazing, dude. Stellar job!
Hopefully you can catch your grandmothers reaction when she sees it. Grandpa would be proud of you, bud.
Special place in my heart for monte's. I've owned 6 in my life and will own one again and it will be the one I keep forever. Subbed
I seriously love this car and it's e sentimental value it has. Seriously interested in watching you work on it every time.
I love watching you bring this back. My first car was a black 88 ss with t-tops. that my dad sold me for cheap. unfortunately I totaled it after 6 months. My Dad still hasn't forgiven me and I haven't forgiven myself even though it was over 20 years ago lol. Do just about anything to get another one someday. Never see them on road anymore 😕.. Yours is looking great. can't wait for more videos on it!
If the fuel bowl isnt slowing leaking fuel all you need to do to start the Rochester carb is reset the throttle plate. That only requires one full pedal press to reset the choke.
I'm happy to see this car back on the road. I don't ever see them up here in Minnesota. It'll be fun to see the future transformation. Keep It me boy. 👍
I love the look of this thing already, can’t wait to see what you end up doing with it
Have a look at replacing any of the rubber fuel lines that remain. Fire is a huge risk with something that has sat this long. That interior is amazing.
Vacuum leaks can be found usually fairly easy just by spraying brake cleaner in random places around the motor. If it revs up, you hit a leaking spot.
As a detailer this video was super satisfy. Just needs a good compound and finishing polish once you sort the rust in the door. Keep up the hard work dude love the content
Hey man looking good, brings back memories for me. My Mom had a Cutlass I miss it. Great clean job, be sure to take the back seat out. Before my mom sold hers we took the back seat out. It was a time capsule, I found stuff that been lost and forgotten. Love your videos keep them coming!
"I can't stop smiling" next scene not smiling at all, haha. Love the work though Taylor. Nice to see you bringing this car back to life.
Man, it cleaned up nice! So freaking awesome!
I wish I had the powerful sun in the winter issue. Instead I have snow. And clouds. Thanks a lot Michigan…
The monte carlo SS has a special place in my heart my dad being a race car mechanic specifically drag cars iv seen these kind of cars come and go in just about every configuration some clean some dirty some junky and decent looking hot rod or prospec 454 big blocks 383 strokers all kinds of stuff i love this car it is my favorite classic car of all time good you got yours running looks nice hold on to it
I had a black 87 SS when I was 17. My godfather handed it down to me to learn how to work on cars so we swapped a used craigslist FBO 355 and 700r4 in it. One of the coolest cars I ever had and selling it was one of the biggest regrets of my life. He died a year after I sold it and I never forgave myself. This build brings me back and I hope you put a big block with spray in it like we always wanted to.
WOW! Great job! That car was my mom’s favorite car for the longest time!(She past away a couple of years ago) but I am really enjoying this series!
T ray thanks man it's a miracle you cleaned the windows" hallelujah" "hallelujah" you cleaned the car ""hallelujah " lol my ass off ,a bad ass stock car motor? Ps I'm one of those who have been begging you to clean the glass for 5,6 years since you and fed had that house can't wait to see what you do,with it have always loved those cars.
Grandma with a SS 👍
History will not be denied .
1968 SS 427 L72 Chevelle Z16
The decals really made it sweet. Love this car and your passion for it, i grew up with these GM bodies, the Cutlass and Monte Carlo's and always liked them, they cruise smooth. Now to fix that back bumper black faded area, that would really set it off...
Nice to see Taylor getting a hug from the algorithm, views are way up! Way to go man!
So very cool love the SS. Nothing is more gratifying then when you get to save an iconic car full of memories from way back in the day preserving the history. Great American Muscle Cars! I can remember Dale Earnhardt and Rusty Wallace terrorizing super speed ways in those iconic Nascar rides. Your Grandma is going to love seeing her ride again. And your grandpa and dad would be proud. Great job!
My dream car. I worked on my 87 bumper to bumper. You're doing good with yours. Check the timing. Seems like it needs to be factory reset. Also the idle air bleed valve on top of the carb. Definitely get a Haynes book lol. Be careful in reverse. They are sensitive transmission. Don't stomp it in reverse or you'll break it. The car is worth more stock motor. It's up to you if you want to replace the engine but I'd leave it stock.
Taylor Ray, this is a great video. something about cleaning up a vehicle and seeing the progress. It means more because it was in your family so long.
I'll kindly take that off your hands
Great work brother. It's my dream and all time FAV car, OF ALL TIME, IN THE UNIVERSE, EVER!! Awesome work!
Yes! Have been SO KEEN to see this thing clean.. been kinda jealous, I wanted to clean it up
It is always great to watch videos like this because I have a 83 non-SS that I am going to be working on come spring and these are some really good things to look out for if I run into the same hiccups when going for say that "first drive". Thanks man love the videos.
Finally washed. Now we can see what we're working with. Looks like a solid project
All I'm saying yes we are fully invested in this built/reveal. We, the people would like to tag along when you show your grandma.
That car has been a dream car of mine since I was little thank you for cleaning it it looks so good now
Awesome job I am so looking forward to see what you do with this car it looks so good cleaned up I absolutely love this body style Monte Carlo
Taylor…looks great, what a transformation! I’m excited to see what you have in store for the ol’ girl. Take care and God bless…. David.
Sheeesh doing gods work over here. Bringing back these old classics love it good job keep it going!!
Living up here in the rust belt with -2 degrees day I couldn't help but shake my head in disgust when you are talking about the sun in winter and the surface rust. It's all good though I am just a little jealous 😂
Hands down my favorite car . My first car was an 85 and what I would give to have that car back . You have an amazing gem . Great watch
Taylor I have a 62 impala with a bored out big block chevy in it. Now you have somehow given me the confidence to convert it all to global west coilover suspension and install a quick performance 9 inch. I might need to bug you for advice lol. Keep up the amazing videos!!
Looks good man. Total night and day. It definitely cleaned up good after 20 yrs of sitting. Can’t wait too see what plans you have for the monte SS
Hey taylor. i still have my 85 ss that I got when I was 14 years old. It’s a primered roller at the current time and tore up. Was a sharp car back when i first did it up with a vortech 355 and chop stick and a Porsche red paint job ($7 an hour pushing shopping carts and bagging groceries for 3 years😂😂😂) and I drove the car to highschool one time for some addict to slam into it and destroy the whole front end. To get rear ended on the way home that day so call it a double whammy. Tore it all down again around 2006 to start over and lost my dad during the project so a coat of primer went on the twisted body a 383 from my late dads vette and I drag raced it. In 2012 I got a turbo 6.0 ls set up put it in (first in the south jersey area mind you 😊)but life happened again and it ended up getting pulled out. Well 2023 is the year I give it to my 7 year old and we are starting it over again. Seeing you do this gave me inspiration to dig in now. She’s getting a big block and a tkx for sure and I just want to do my pop proud. Weird how I started it with my dad the first time as a kid and now I’m restarting it with my kid as a dad this time. Sorry for the novel I’m sure you won’t even see this lol.
One of my kids sent me a picture of the before and after. I sent him a message back saying that can't be the same car. Good job on getting the car looking great.
