- Dear Gentle Reader,
It's time for season 2! I am so excited for the new season of Bridgerton on Netflix that I decided to make my own Bridgerton inspired Regency gown. I used Butterick 6074 (now known as McCalls 8132), style A as a guide and it was certainly a challenge. I learnt new skills, got thoroughly confused but managed to create a cute gown worthy of the Bridgerton family ... or at least one of their staff. This was a very difficult historical sewing piece and with all the challenges, I now want to make a Featherington gown!

Sewing, a kdrama and your furbaby! That's life!
Welcome to the frustration of following pattern instructions. They can be so confusing. I religiously use to follow the Instructions but as I gained experience, I started to use the pattern instructions as a guide only, as I'd learned enough to understand what the instructions were trying to say,
The dress turned out beautiful, and the colour so suits you.
I don't like hearing your self doubt, you deserve to feel accomplished! It was your first go at this style, you should definitely be proud. Also your hair looks great , you styled it very well! I'm sorry about your migraine, that can definitely mess with your mindset. I hope you're feeling better now and you have a more positive view of your work
I absolutely loved how it turned out! Also I recognise those gardens.. I did a Bridgerton shoot with my friend there last year!
I was not even aware, another season came out yet-so thank you for letting us know. I think your dress came out super adorable and there is no need to (gatekeep) or tell sewists that things are not historically adequate, Costumes this day and age are meant to be Fun representations. Those comments drive me crazy....people just need to let us sew and create the fantasy without judgements.
It's so tricky to look at your own work without seeing the flaws, but the dress really does look beautiful - I hope you're proud of pushing yourself to achieve it!
Oh you're so sweet
I'm going to be trying this pattern after having it in my stash for a while, definitely appreciated you sharing where this project threw you for a loop!!
Love your fabric choices
Honestly I think you did an amazing job! I'm glad you made this video because I'm about to sew this dress too but I decided on view B after hearing about your struggles with the draw string lol!
hello!! I have made this entire pattern several times, and I understand your frustrations! I can tell you that dress style B is easier than A. Your dress is LOVELY! You did such an excellent job. Also - thank you for doing your hair! It completes the look so well.
Hello, I am making dress A and I trying to find out the reason for the shoe string and understand the drawstring situation. If you are able to provide me any information that would be wonderful.
I'm glad I read your comment and watched the video. I'll definitely be making style B haha
You look so beautiful in your dress, I hope you do another one, I am off to buy some fabric and will try Moodsewcity
Lovely! also made my own Bridgerton dress and made a video! it was so much fun :D
I have this same pattern and was thinking about trying it soon, but thanks to the comments under the video I will stick to pattern B since I am new to sewing. The dress looks lovely on you and I like how you did the embellishments! Also a few other Bridgerton videos I watched did a lot of hand stitching and used ribbon instead of a drawstring. I don't think this pattern is supposed to be exact, but more as a guide. Great job fighting the good fight with this one.
All in all, your results turned out marvelous, keep up the good work! 💪
I think your dress turned out very lovely for your first time trying this.I can't wait to see the next regency style dress you make.Your hairstyle and the dress is giving me Wendy from Peter Pan vibes(in an adorable way)along with the tv show look you you were going for.
Dommage que ça sois pas en français mais merci beaucoup de vos explications
Je pense que je vais pouvoir y arriver grâce à votre vidéo 🙏
Just got this pattern and can’t decide between A and B! Thank you for the video I think it came out pretty well even with the struggling😂
You did a wonderful job, you should be proud of yourself! Regarding the appliques: to get the Bridgerton look you should add a lot more! On the sleeves, around the neckline, and along the hem. Historically the hemline was almost always super decorated. The appliques do look a bit grayish compared to the light blue fabric, so you could balance it with perhaps some white flowers, or dark blue?
I would also love to see you try this again, maybe in time for the third season's premiere in May?
1) You look fantastic in regency. You are probably correct; you are used to one style/silhouette and so it feels funky. 2) The dress looks great. I find that I make things and they have issues. As my sewing improves or I make another copy, I realize what I can do to fix those flaws and I fix it then. As you said, you haven't made anything like this before and it really made you grow and learn. That's part of the fun. 3) Yes, keep going. You don't have to make the dresses as everyday wearable garments. You can look at it as having fun and learning new skills. If you were ever one of those girls who loved playing dress up, lean into that.
Also if you want to use the appliqués, may I suggest a hair piece? I know that those were a thing in the regency era and I assume Bridgerton has a few in the show.
Thank you so much for your kind comment. You are right, it's probably me trying a different shape that my eye's aren't used to seeing on my body and not my body being the issue. And what a great suggestion about the hair pieces! I will look into it for next time!
@@MissMonMon I think you're right about the silhouette being unfamiliar. You look gorgeous in the dress and quite slim. Your hair is perfect too.
I liked it! You did fine!
Beautiful work…
It’s beautiful well done
The dress is beautiful! I think you should be kinder to yourself. Its always easy to see your own mistakes, but as an outsider when I see your dress all I can think is wauw! So be proud of what you maken and learn from the things you like less. But I still think you should be proud of such a beautiful dress😊
It looks very Bridgerton! I’m going to make view b but reading through the instructions has been a bit confusing 😝
Great colour/fabric choices and epic sewing adventure. Sadly we all struggle when learning new skills so, be encouraged! Personally, I'd move the high-waisted embroidery piece to higher up as it detracts from that area. Maybe something in a plain darker blue colour to add variety and interest? For example, a dark blue pearl added to the centre of the right side embroidery piece?
While I adore the Bridgerton dresses I wouldn't watch the series.
It's so stressful for me to see you younger ladies struggling so much with what should have been taught to you while at home or at school etc. When a sewing instruction doesn't work for me, I try various methods until I get the effect that I want. AND I think that this is what's missing from the younger generation sewing experience. I watched my mother and grandmother problem solving without patterns. Growing up, we didn't have bought patterns. It was knowledge passed down so that any future sewing issue WAS NOT a problem. we had learned skills with which to solve any issue that arose. So, please remember that you don't have to religiously follow an instruction for the garment to be right!
I often have to add extra material or binding to 'get around a problem.' BUT I don't let ANYTHING stop my progress. lots of love for future sewing!!!
Well stated. I'm 34 and I wish I had been taught sewing and especially drafting.
Girl your dress is GORGEOUS. Im a beginner sewer and of all the bridgerton dress videos, i think yours is the most realistic and will be the video i will use to reference when i start to make mine xxx
Oh you're so sweet! I watched a lot of Bridgerton videos as I made this dress and I just wanted someone to struggle with me! Not sure how everyone made it so easily and I was on the struggle bus haha! Good luck with yours! Please send me a photo when you're done!!
I love Your stunning dress in Bridgerton style. Please, wearing also ultra long opera white satin gloves.
Greetings from Italy.
Thank you so much for your kind comment!
You did good, the fabric you chose is beautiful!😊 the gown looks amazing on you, and no you don’t look pregnant 😊
This looks amazing! Great job! Thank you for persevering because that looked difficult!
Thank you so much! I hope my next attempt will be easier
Thanks for your video! I bought this pattern as well and I’m already confused. So I was happy to find you sewing this dress and helping me! Not sure how this is going to turn out, just because I wasn’t aware off the ribbon part. But anyhow I love how your dress turned out! You really can be proud of yourself!!! 💕
I think it does suit you. Its only that this pattern has a lot of material at the front - thats what makes it more maternatyish. If you look at daphne, her dress is actually flatt at the front. In stead they gather more at the back. If you do that next time, I think you will be happier. Looking forward to your next regency dress :)
Gorgeous!!!!!
Thank you darling!
I sew often and also found this pattern confusing!
Oh I'm so glad it's not just me!!! Did you end up finishing it?
You're being far too hard on yourself. I've been sewing for almost 25 years and I think you did a lovely job. We always see the flaws in our works because we saw what we did. The public does not though, all the public sees is lovely fabric choice, and wow they MADE that!
I'm going to give S9502 a go since it has a pattern for Lady Danbury and Eloise in addition to a party dress.
Well, I personally love the dress and think you did a great job sewing it
Hello! Thank you for such a kind comment
Amazing 👏 😍 🙀
Thank you darling
Beautiful dress - it looks great on you, not maternity at all! Also find a good acupuncturist trained in China and get acupuncture for your headaches - it really does help, cut mine and my sister's headache days by more than half - maybe 3/4.
Hello, I am making dress A and I trying to find out the reason for the shoe string and understand the drawstring situation. I would appreciate any assistance or insight that would be wonderful.
Beautiful dress but not a great fan of the extra 3d pieces sewn on. Fantastic job.
Thank you! Yeah I don't think I'm a fan either... tempted to remove it.
I was just about to make a muslin of this and I am so confused. The waistband inset, piece 4, should sit right below the bust line but it is about 8 inches too long and I’m baffled. The bodice is gathered before being attached to this band so I am even more baffled. Did you run into any issues there? ☹️
Gorgeous dress tho and I hope I’ll be as good as you one day!!!
Yes! I'm certainly not perfect at anything but looking at some of my first sewing attempts, I've come a long way! You can do it!
Was the pattern itself a challenge, or the fabric itself? I want to use this pattern as a non-overlay dress…
I’m new to making dresses and it sounded like you were speaking a different language at some points hahha
Haha sometimes I feel like you need to learn a new language when you start sewing. If it makes you feel better, I started a sewing book when I first began learning and most of the pages are filled with definitions and self drawn diagrams of different stitches. We all need to start somewhere!
