Sewing a Designer Inspired dress on a budget! $3000+ vs. $50 DIY with Miss MonMon
Просмотров 838Месяц назад
It's time for another Vintage Sewing Adventure but this time, I see if I can create a designer-inspired summer dress for a fraction of the cost! Recently, I fell in love with a Dolce and Gabbana Gerbera Daisy dress but couldn't drop over $3800 on her so instead, I made it for about $50! There was a bit of an issue with my fabric as it wasn't exactly as described when it arrived but we did our b...

It's time again for the annual Perth Pinup Prom which means despite having plenty of dresses hanging in my closet, I want to sew one. Today I share my process of sewing a 1950s-inspired cupcake prom dress using the Liz Dress Pattern from Charm Pattern by Gertie. Come on Barbie let's go sewing! Sewing a Three Coloured Gingham Ruffle Dress using a Vintage Pattern - Vintage Sewing Adventures
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.Год назад
I've been seeing lots of multicoloured gingham dresses around lately so I wanted to try and make my own. I used a retro Weigels 2089 pattern from the 1950s/1960s. Using pink, orange and yellow gingham I created a ruffled panel skirt with extra swish and despite a few hiccups along the way, it turned out to be quite the cute summer dress. We will be visiting Sephora, Mecca, Myer and David Jones and trying to find a ...
Sewing a Dress from 70s Flower Power Bedsheets - Vintage Sewing Adventures

I hope you're feeling pretty groovy! In an attempt to reduce waste, I wanted to use some damaged vintage 1970s floral bedsheets and turn them into a summer dress. It would have been logical to use a 70s dress pattern, but I opted for a 1940s Blackmore 8672 sewing pattern instead. The process was quite the challenge but I love the outcome. Just going to highlight that I'm an aussie, and we spell it pyjamas, not pajamas. Moving on... Back in October last year, I wanted to make some cute Halloween inspired pumpkin pyjamas using Vogue 5725 from the 60s. I never got a chance to edit the process into a video but as voted by you on my Instagram, I was told to just release a video anyway so here we are. This Vintage Sewing Adventure was...

I believe its Zhuzh. The cardigan came out gorgeous!
Thank you!

Beautiful
Thanks for sharing this! I’m not a seamstress but I just bought a vintage cupcake dress and I really wanted to learn more about the design and your video is so good!
And your end product is beautiful!! The color is perfect for you.
still a great dress
So cute
So cute! Also, I love the Mulan mag, where is it from please 🙏🏼
Also those pretty flower earrings!
Very cute and very on brand for the era.
Which pattern did you make the dress you are wearing out of? The cut is beautiful!
I think this was a purchased dress from Unique Vintage. I've had it for years but it's so comfy!
I honestly think your version is prettier than the original. Loved your video!
Thanks grandma!! ❤
Might be genuine deadstock? Design houses do sell off the remaining fabric after they're done with the run of making their garments. The bigger the name, the less likely they are to try to use everything up the way home sewists do.
Yes that is very true. I think thats what this fabric must have been :)

Beautiful dress! Would you mind sharing the link for the fabric please?
Sure, here it is: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DFGIBqj
@@MissMonMon Thank you!
Ending is hilarious! 😂 My view on the fabric - fabric is fabric - designer brands are fabricated - you fabricated a beautiful garment out of a fabric with a fabricated logo - philosophically and ethically speaking - who cares! If you look and feel gorgeous, that's all that matters. Forward all legal claims to me, and I'll make them go away! 😊
You are overthinking the fabric thing. I saw a gorgeous Carolina Herrera dress. I fell in love with it. I found the designer fabric at Mood on line and bought it - wish I had bought more. I used a McCalls pattern similar to the $3k dress and made it. I was so happy and it cost me $72 in fabric instead of $3k.
Oh wow that's amazing!! I hope the dress came out INCREDIBLE!!! I think I'm definitely overthinking haha
@@MissMonMon it came out just fine. Not an exact dupe, but in a similar style pattern I like a lot. ❤👍 I got the fabric for $24 per yard which was a deal.
7:31 I haven't tried it myself, yet, but there is a method of gathering without a gathering foot where you put the tension all the way tight and the length of the stitch as long as you can, and it apparently causes a ruffle. I'm sure you can probably find someone someone in RUclips who can explain it better than I do but I am definitely gonna try it next time I am making a skirt!
It looks amazing!
Yes! I know this method and I've tried it but my machine doesn't have a wide enough stitch (or at least I couldn't do it correctly). I'm hoping to get a new machine soon so maybe in the future I'll get this gathering method right haha
This dress is soo beautiful. And yes, I am team sharing the Aliexpress link
Thank you so much! Here's the link: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DEssWVV
Thank you too @@MissMonMon
It looks amazing. Fabric also really suits you!
Thank you so much :)
The colours look great on you! And don't feel bad about the fabric. It could be leftovers or something that wasn't 100% up to their standards so the factory is just selling it.
Thank you so much and yes thats very true! I didn't think of that so thank you <3
Ahw, its too tight around your chest. Did you see the skin bulge over the dress?
Yeah I know, trust me when I say that months ago when I made this dress she fit, but then my mum visited me for 3 months and I couldn't say no to her cooking XD purely my own fault for that one haha
Pretty!
Thank you so much!
Love this info
My bodice was a nightmare with all the layers of fabric,
I am interested in beige dress I don’t see link to purchase help please🙏🏻
Absolutely Lovely❤️
Love your dress do you have link?
I am interested in the cat but cannot get the link to work🤣

I cannot find the last dress you showed I need help!!!!! Love it
Absolutely love your videos my style thanks for the links
Im elbows drep in this pattern right now, and realised i underlined 2 lattern pieces incorrectly. Thank you so much for this, it makes me feel less alone! ❤
Beautiful. I like it better with the bust matching
I absolutely loved how it turned out! Also I recognise those gardens.. I did a Bridgerton shoot with my friend there last year!
Madam tell me how to purchase the clip on earings.I cant able to wear my normal earings, becoz my left side ear lobe got swelled kindly share how to purchase these type of earings
I like *rrcopys* bags's bags very much. I have to admit that their bags are really well done. There are many styles and colors to choose from. I've had it for a week now and I'm very happy with it.
Thank you for letting us know…photos can be so deceptive 😢
Interesting...did your pattern instructions not include pockets?? The pack I bought includes them! And thank goodness because I'm still a total newbie and appreciated having the pieces and instructions. For me personally, having only really made a pillow case and a tote bag, this was an intimidating but doable project. I had tried V9075 before this but only got as far as the mockup and decided I didn't like doing sleeves just yet, lol, so V9100 ended up being the perfect project! I really appreciated getting to watch this video before starting in, and watching it again now that I'm almost done (months later because... procrastination 😉) I think I _may_ be brave enough to follow your method with the lining and straps for dress number two, but we'll see haha. Thanks so much for sharing!!
It’s so sailor moon cute tho
Just finished up a muslin and thought "there's gotta be a video showing a normal way to do the lining" and here it is. TY
Thanks for this .... i actually only bought a belt from them came a million weeks later but came. Its ok/ doable and i was concidering buying some of the clothes from them but saw this video and one other warning me about this company so i decided not to buy any more from them.
❤
Beautiful dress - it looks great on you, not maternity at all! Also find a good acupuncturist trained in China and get acupuncture for your headaches - it really does help, cut mine and my sister's headache days by more than half - maybe 3/4.
cat!!
Ponds Cold Cream is 5 stars its the best
Strangely it was discontinued in South Africa. I used it as a teen in the 90s and then all of a sudden it was off the shelves. I'm so happy to have found an alternative one that is exactly the same this year.
Love the series!
Oh wow it’s gorgeous!! Good pick with that fabric even if it wasn’t in budget, it’s so pretty!!
It looks very Bridgerton! I’m going to make view b but reading through the instructions has been a bit confusing 😝
