The hair guy was Robbie Steinhardt. He was a vocalist and played violin. Sadly he died a couple years ago before his solo album "Not In Kansas Anymore" came out. It's a killer record too !

Kansas was a great band from the 70's. Their musical style is a fusion of hard rock, southern rock & progressive rock. "Carry On Wayward Son" & "Dust In The Wind" are their 2 biggest hits. But they had other good songs such as "Point Of Know Return", "Hold On", "People Of The South Wind", "Play The Game Tonight", "Fight Fire With Fire", "All I Wanted" etc. You really need to watch their official video to this song!

I love hearing your reaction to discovering Kansas. They seem to me now to be 12 bands in one. So talented musically, and I love the lyrics too!

Actually, the song was written in a day at the last minute then recorded live in the studio in one take. Magic. And now their 50th anniversary tour is happening.

We who grew up with this music aren't always aware that younger people have never heard it. Back in the seventies, we didn't have to have music sent to us or recommended to us, because the best-selling songs were played over and over and over on the radio for all to hear. We didn't have to seek them out. I forget that it isn't like that today. Also, if you like this 1976 song, you'll also like mid- to late seventies Boston. Try "Foreplay/Long Time" from 1976. Also try "Roundabout" by Yes from 1971. Those should really appeal to a keyboard player like yourself.

The cw network had a show called "supernatural" it was on the air from 2005 to 2020. Kansas was always featured on the show,s soundtrack. Wayward was played every second or third show. That's why kansas has never faded away.

Kansas has an entire Universe of great songs that no one (besides true fans) has heard before. Sure everyone knows the 2 great tunes they released on singles, *Carry on Wayward Son* and *Dust in the Wind* (which you must listen to next!) but there are many other tremendously inventive and progressive songs. Try the following 11 on for size when you get a chance (listed in order of release) --- and there are many other's --- most of their great material appeared on their first 5 albums released between 1974 and 1977:
    01. *Belexes*
    02. *Child of Innocence*
    03. *Icarus: Borne on Wings of Steel*
    04. *The Wall*
    05. *What's on my Mind*
    06. *Miracles out of Nowhere*
    07. *The Spider* / *Portrait (He Knew)* --- _listen to these as one song._
    08. *Closet Chronicles*
    09. *Sparks of the Tempest*
    10. *Nobody's Home*
    11. *Hopelessly Human*

Back in the day when this was hot for some reason Kansas NEVER played in Nebraska. I lived there so a buddy and I had to go to Red Rocks Colorado(God's Cathedral). Very well worth the trip and a nice ride on a couple of Harleys with our girls. 300 miles each way with roughly $1 a gallon for gas on bikes. Hell yeah.😎😎
I've seen them since then with the new band members in Reno (Harrah's former outdoor venue) Still killin' it.
    I still have this LP./Album.
"Point of Know Return" and "Dust in the Wind" are two other awesome songs from that era 45 years ago.
They're still played on classic rock radio.
    "Surely Heaven waits for you"😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇

Now listen to this with this in in mind. This was written for men returning from Vietnam with severe PTSD, minds broken. The tempo changes signify the pain going on in their minds. He is trying to tell these men, please dont cry. Lay your weary heads to rest. It is a very sad song actually. Oh the chaos in their minds.

As it turns out, the song almost did not make the album. Kerry Livgren wrote the song one night and shared it with the band, who were already packing up to leave the studio. Once they heard it, they unpacked their stuff and recorded this song. Don Kirshner knew this would be their breakout song when he heard the track
