    This is on of those songs where all the instruments are going crazy. The guitar riff and solo is great. The drumming is constant and wow throughout. But ... this is one of those songs that makes me wish I knew how to play the keyboards.
    If you like some violin in your rock music, try Kansas's "Dust In the Wind" ... its beautiful.

    Kansas is a very underrated band... Formed & rose to prominence in the 70's, Kansas has kept recording and touring w/ their brand of progressive rock music until today w/ a changing line-up for decades... Current Deep Purple guitarist Steve Morse was once a member of Kansas. They are known to craft music w/ complex arrangements like Rush, Yes, Dream Theater, and Tool.
    The band was formed by Phil Ehart (drums) and debuted in 1974 w/ Rich Williams (guitar)... Steve Walsh (vocals & keyboards) did this 1976 record 'Leftoverture' w/ Kerry Livgren (guitar/ piano/ synthesizers), Robby Steinhardt (violin/ viola) & Dave Hope (bass) ...This line-up also recorded the other big Kansas single 'Dust in the wind' (from the 1977 album 'Point of know return')
    Kansas has released 16 studio albums since 1974 ...their latest records being 'The prelude implicit' (2016) and 'The absence of presence' (2020)... The current Kansas line-up: Phil Ehart (drums), Rich Williams (guitar), Ronnie Platt (lead vocals), Billy Greer (bass & vocals), Tom Brislin (keyboards & vocals), and David Ragsdale (violin/ guitar)

    Freshmen year of college. Every song brings me a memory. It’s why music is so important to me. When you are old, keeping your memory sharp is really key to growing old gracefully. Every time you react, you take me to a time and place.
    Left you a note in Messenger. Go to Def Leppard RUclips page. They announced tour with Motley Crue, Poison and Joan Jett. They just added five new cities, one of which is Indianapolis. Thought you might want to check it out. Instead of watching concert crowds, you can be in the crowd. Now a lot of older peeps are gonna be there. But you will love it. I hope you get to go. ❤️

    Towards the end of recording this album, they realized they needed one more track. Kerry Livgren, lead guitarist and songwriter, went back to his room and knocked this masterpiece out...in one freakin' night! He came to the studio the next morning and asked the band: "What do you think?" Needless to say, the band rather liked it, lol.

    "Kansas" is one of the best Prog Rock bands of the '70s, with many epic songs. It's one of those bands that you need to pull up the lyrics, because they're usually deep. I recommend "Song for America", "Dust in the Wind", "The Wall", "Child of Innocence", "Point of Know Return", and "Icarus (Borne on Wings of Steel)".

    • @trenken
      @trenken 2 года назад

      Idk i would put rush over them. First of all rush was great for farrrr longer, but in the 70s alone rush changed quite a bit while kansas kinda stayed the same.

      @@trenken Note I didn't say "the best", but "one of the best". I recognize that "Yes", "Pink Floyd", and "Rush" (I love all 3) were in the same era and are all are great. I think "Kansas" is generally under-appreciated, though.

    • @trenken
      @trenken 2 года назад

      @@roccaclassico9028 kansas never really got that big even at their peak. Dust in the wind in their only super recognizable song by average people so the band was kind of forgotten about over time. They also werent that productive after the 80s so that didnt help.

    • @roccaclassico9028
      @roccaclassico9028 2 года назад +4

      @@trenken Not true. They were very popular at their peak (in the '70s). They had 5 platinum albums, three of those are multi-platinum. They were playing to sold-out stadiums, including Madison Square Garden. Yes, their popularity faded in the '80s because they had lineup changes. But, I was pointing out that they were one of the best Prog Rock bands in the '70s, and didn't claim that they had they same longevity as others. Your statement that they weren't that big at their peak proves my point how under-appreciated they are.

    • @trenken
      @trenken 2 года назад

      @@roccaclassico9028 i meant relative to rush who got much bigger than kansas bc of permanent waves and moving pictures. Rush also put out far more albums and sold far more. And its bc they kept the same lineup that was working. Kansas couldnt keep their key players and people lost interest.

    What you just got your first taste of progressive rock. You were saying earlier about how the song "transitions" so quickly, is exactly what progressive rock does. It progresses. That is the beauty of the genre. Kansas is my favorite band, and their singer, Steve Walsh, is one of the greatest of all time in rock and roll. There is a reason they are *the only* American prog band that come to mind. They made prog a thing in the Americas, and there has never been a band nearly as impactful and famous as them over here. Their lyrics are the best and most impactful out of any band I've ever heard, and you have Kerry Livgren to thank for that. They are just so deep and emotionally intellectual. I can't describe how happy I am that you guys reacted to Kansas. If you guys want to hear more of Steve's vocal prowess, I recommend songs like Journey From Mariabronn, Belexes, and Dust In The Wind and if you want to hear more of the band's sound, I recommend Song For America, The Wall, and Apercu. You HAVE to listen to Apercu. It's a masterpiece in musicianship. You don't wanna miss it. Don't let Carry On Wayward Son let you have a false idea of what this band sounds like though. They actually use the violin in 95% of their songs, which is what garnered them that unique sound that set them apart from the rest. it's a crime they aren't a part of the R&R HOF, but they are one of the best prog bands for a reason. They still tour and I'm seeing them on Saturday. Propelled by six country bumpkins from the middle-of-nowhere Kansas, they made themselves who they are.

    So my friend bought this Huge stereo system. It was freaking awesome. This was one of the 1st albums he played on it. Like I've said before sweet memories and a little sad. If you can keep your friends close. Glad to see you guys appreciating music 🎶 memories

    Kansas is on another level of uniqueness and creativity. I’ve been listening to them for ages and still sounds incredible for me. Additionally, bands from 70s usually tells a story and I’m really into it. ❤

    Kansas had so many great songs they had some radio hits, but much better songs that wasn't radio airplay. First 5 albums all great. Next 2 or 3 were pretty good.

    This song is kind of the unofficial theme song for the TV Show "Supernatural", playing in the last episode of each season except for season 1.

    I was born the same year as your mom and as your parent, I'd be proud that you're keeping an open mind and showing appreciation for music and culture beyond what you might have grown up with and experienced up until this stage in your life. Keep that growth mindset up and you will go far.

    Awesome live shows, saw these guys twice back in the late 70's. All their earlier stuff from the mid 70's to early 80's is / was pure gold. There out on tour right now. I'll be going to see them again in April (St joseph, mo or springfield, mo) or maybe in manhattan, ks in may, we haven't decided yet, still trying to work out the details of getting time off work to make a reasonably short road trip.

    No auto tune back then. Either you could sing or you couldn`t. The 70`s was a ground breaking decade with so many great bands coming out. Led Zepplen, Pink floyd, Kiss, Kansas, it was a get high good time to be alive. I did all that and am so glad to have been there to do it. I am 61 yrs old and had more fun than anyone of you kids today. We rocked hard and loud back then and drank till we passed out. We smoked the good shit from columbia and had so much fun. I wish the young people of today had what I had back then. Music was real! They played that shit for real! Talent was in the person rather than in the electronics like today.
