ℹ️ We have tried to clean out our garage twice before but now, it was time to do it right! We bought 12 new storage bins so we could actually organize and label everything. Because we had gone through everything twice before, there wasn't as much to filter through this time around but truly getting everything organized was a huge game changer. And we were even still able to get rid of a decent amount of stuff! I hope you enjoy this KonMari Garage Declutter!

I agree, when I click on a video that says ”KonMari” I expect a good declutter, not someone organizing their space and not declutter the stuff.
It’s not worth keeping all the hangers. Looks like you need to declutter more or your garage will only temporarily be organized.
Keeping the hangers for our twice-a-year consignment sale actually saves me a lot of time and saves us money by not having to buy the hangers each time (thus increasing the profit we make off of what we sell). 🙂 It has been 2 months now and it is still organized so it definitely works for us. 💙 I love how what works for one family might not work for another though. It keeps the world interesting 💜
not much decluttering - just moving around existing stuff.
This was the third time we tackled the garage so there was less to get rid of than the first two times, but we were still able to give away a big car seat box full 😁

Good job tidying, looks nice. With the little ones, those chemicals and sprays seem awfully inviting and at their level. Could they maybe be moves higher or put inside a tote?

I do not understand why are there so many garages dry walled and taped but not painted.
Omg me neither! 🤣🤣🤣 I’m glad I’m not the only one. We painted our garage in our last house but it has been a last priority here lol!
Is all that stuff worth it it looks like a lot of clutter you could be having a family day
It definitely looks like a lot but considering it is a small 1-car garage and our only storage (no basement, attic, shed or indoor closet space is used for storage), and the fact that it is all stuff we actually use, we are happy with it :) It has stayed organized too so that actually gives us more time in the long run. We have plenty of family days and definitely make that a priority too 😁 We feel it is very important to model hard work and handling responsibilities for our kids too so finding a balance is what we strive for 💙
Sometimes a mom needs alone time, me personally I like to declutter when I need time to myself. I kill two birds with one stone, me time and getting something done
I too have a one car garage/storage-it can build up, good for you for giving this a go!
OK, so now what's left to clean? It is amazing how quickly the garage can become cluttered - I have a friend that had such a loaded garage that they MOVED! Now they have a two car garage and it is still a mess! 😂😂😂 You would hate them. Their mother does too.😂😂😂

Lol!!! Garages can definitely get cluttered easily. And they feel impossible to keep clean even once you do get them organized lol!

Our double garage here in New Zealand looks the same as yours but I recently spotted a rat up in the rafters now I am scared to go in there alone

I like to imagine if I went thru someone else’s things, and they asked me to pick a few things that I actually like or would find useful and actually pay money for.
Most stuff we only convince ourselves it has some sort of sentimental value.

It totally is! The crazy thing is that we use it all at least once a year too (with the possible exception of the small amount of sentimental stuff that we hold on to). I keep wanting to purge more but then I remind myself that it's just a small one-car garage and that it's our only storage area (no attic/basement and we don't store things inside the house that we don't use regularly) 😂

The problem with garage clean out, for me is, it's just as bad as a full move house. I've had lots of experience with that. You have my sympathy. Big job.

The guided journal "Throw It Away" by Guru Notebooks is great for this. It's on amazon.
Wow, you've done an amazing job - especially with the little ones. Suprising how much space baby things and other things take up. We don't have a garage but a HUGE cupboard which is overflowing. If you open the door you're at risk of something falling down. I know what's in there - bins are clearly labelled and boxes self explanatory. Your garage looks fab, super organised and now you know what you have and can put your hands on it straight away. Brilliant. Thank you for sharing, from UK England. x

That was a lot of work. You still have tons of stuff but at least it’s somewhat organised now.
Great job! I started doing my garage with no driveway to sort so it’s taking me a week!!!! And I’m still not done. Just FYI bike helmets deteriorate in heat, so check the linings. I learned this the hard way. 😬😬

@@MyPerfectlyImperfectMomLife my pleasure. Yeah I pulled out my helmet (Trek) that was still in its box after a year of being the garage. Sat it out for a ride then we started noticing pieces of padding everywhere,looked in the helmet and it just crumbled.
My garage is a catch all too! 🤦🏻♀️ helps my house stay cleaner 🤪

We have a three bay garage and we don't own 1/3 of the stuff you have. LOL!

@@MyPerfectlyImperfectMomLife I'm in the process of organizing the Mr.'s tool boxes, garage cupboards, and tools (carpenter, metal fabricating, auto mechanic, fireplace/gas tech, and garden tools), if I'm lucky I'll finish before I die. My husband is physically and mentally (dementia) handicapped so it's all up to me at this point and I'm 71. Wish me luck.

Very inspiring video!! Many Americans can relate to this kind of video! We have a 2 car garage that is twice this bad. We moved 4 months ago and are now faced with wanting to get rid of it all. This was very motivational and the after looks great!! Especially since you use all of it!
Thank you! I'm so happy to hear it motivated you. Garages are daunting for sure and take a LONG time to declutter but it feels so good to be done.
Can I ask why you are keeping coat hangers?
We sell all of our kids clothes that they grow out of at a consignment sale every 6 months and clothes have to be on hangers 😁 Once a month I grab the bin of hangers and put any clothes they’ve grown out of on hangers so it isn’t so much work all at once ❤️
Using matching totes also helps things look more uniform and organized. Plus they stack better and you don’t have to be worried about trying to Tetris them together.
Definitely. Eventually we will have everything in those clear totes with matching vinyl labels.
I think River is an excellent supervisor in the garage de-cluttering process- give him a raise! ha ha Enjoyed the music you added and the happy interactions of your family members. Your husband seems to have a sense-of-humor! So good for kids to know this about their father... Lastly, I love your denim shorts with the lacey accents at the sides- rockin' the threads while getting it done- good for you!

This so NOT Kamari method, however you definitely did your best considering your limited space.
I would agree. Marie Kondo is more the big purge with only keeping what "sparks joy". A nod to minimalism. I don't see a lot of joy being sparked. More like prepping for the apocalypse. Nicely organized, though.
Loved the video, brought back lots of memories of when my kids were little, I loved when you were holding River! I also like your perfectly imperfect garage, i did things a little differently because I had a couple storage rooms in my basement. But good job on grouping things together. I was wondering if you are able to switch out some of the bins so they would fit, like paint?
Thank you! Our garage is definitely a great example of our perfectly imperfect life 😆❤️ Switching out bins is a great idea! We’ve done some more decluttering since this video but it can always get better for sure. My dream is to have all matching shelving and all matching bins with nice vinyl labels on them all lol!
Why are you keeping all those hangers?
We sell all of the clothes our kids outgrow at the JBF consignment sale every 6 months and we have to provide our own hangers 😊 For now, the space they take up is worth it for us not to have buy hundreds of hangers every year 💙

You conquered a big job. I did somewhat the same this last spring. My son and I cleaned painted and reorganized a studio area attached to the back of the house. It was a big project but it now looks so much better.

I must say that garage was quite a project getting it all cleaned out. I just found your channel, also found that you're from Puyallup. I drove on I-5 between Lacey where we lived and Ft. Lewis where my late husband was stationed. We lived there in late 70's, left as Mt. St. Helens blew it's top. Nice video, looks like even though you have a lot, but it looks organized. 👍👍👍👍👍😉🇺🇸
Yes, it was definitely a huge project but felt so good to have it done (and it has stayed organized too which is awesome!). Was there a lot of traffic along that stretch of I-5 in the 70s? It seems to always be backed up there now.

It’s the perfect amount of stuff for our family in our current season of life. It has all stayed organized and we use all of it 😁I love that everyone can choose the amount of belongings that is right for their family ❤️

It’s a great idea but we just don’t have the time to do that 😔 It was so much easier putting everything we didn’t want on the sidewalk with a free sign and having it gone the next day lol! 🤣
