No matter how many clever happiness hacks you try, if you’re not taking care of your foundation-eating nutrient-rich foods, avoiding harmful substances, and giving your body what it truly needs-then all those shortcuts will fall flat. Real well-being starts with respecting your health, not just stacking up life hacks.

I think we’ve lost sight of the basics, like you said, the foundation

"Whatever I need to know will come to me at exactly the right time" Louise Hay. A couple of days ago one of your Podcast's showed up on my RUclips feed and I watched it, it as the one with Dr Santos, "The Science of well-being, Powerful Happiness Hacks that 5 millions people are using." Then I watched the one with your Beautiful Daughter about breakups, and today was the first day since April 2, 2024 that I have not cried most of the day. I was in a terrible relationship that took me years get out of and it took a huge toll on me. Thank you so much for your incredible manner, and grace and deep thoughtfullness for all of us. I will need much more support, including direct support from my family and friends but what you are doing really, really helped and I will continue to watch your incredible Podcasts! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Karen F

Outside of all this rich content, which I will have to listen to again and again to use and share, I have a compliment I wanted to share. Actually, three. One, the auditory quality of these two voices was incredibly soothing and easy to digest. I always love Mel's voice, but Dr. Santos was equally compelling. When you have such rhythm and poise, the information just comes alive for me. Second, Mel taking the flat tire on your vehicle analogy to the next metaphorical stage was amazing. Yes, when you don't give yourself the opportunity to be happy (fill up those tires), you don't go anywhere. You are stuck! Brilliant. Third, eliciting a hack of my own for how to share from a space of gratitude. When you recognize something you are thankful for about yourself, ask, "How can I share this with someone right now?" For example, I am so grateful for the view I have from my office window. I overlook a creek that is surrounded by tons of trees and wildlife. When a client comes in, I can point something out I see or just invite them to look out." Lunch is over and I am going to try it in my next session. Thank you both for such a wonderful episode!

What is happiness. There are many theories on this. Is it feeling content and peace within yourself. Is it accepting yourself and all your mistakes and faults. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. I’m seventy and doing life in a calm acceptance of who I am. Being at peace and not caring about what people think of me. I am at peace in knowing the past seventy years I did the best I could. I know I’m not perfect. I know there have been times I’ve been wrong. I’m human. It’s ok. Just live and find things that excite you. There are things you can do all day long that make you happy. Little things. I have a ritual I do every morning that start my day with peace and deep meaning for my soul. Sets the day up for calm and happiness. Happiness is different things to people. What makes me happy may not make someone else happy. Find your own happiness.

Great podcast. It is so true how the busier we get, the less we will be willing to help and the more unhappy we will feel. Just stop and take action. Where are we running to anyway? What has mostly boosted my happiness over the last months is meditation every day. It helps me to connect with myself, to prioritise better, to make better decisions and helps with focus and with being present in whatever I am doing specially present with other people. I want to improve my social skills though cause sometimes I still hold myself back and I want to take action more often because only action leads to result and not always motivation or preparation.

Don’t wash the dished to eat off wash the dishes to wash the dishes so I say that the whole time im doing it and it brings peace. I did it stacking wood the other day. Instead of saying im stacking wood to build a fire for warmth(which is in the future) I said stack the wood to stack the wood. So much peace and enjoyment that way

Happiest comes from being grateful for what we have; family, faith, friends, health, love. I find by taking the focus off of myself and helping others, gives me a sense of purpose and peace, but my main source of happiness comes from my faith and trust in Jesus. Another thing to note is that we might not always be happy, but we can always have joy. And that’s where it comes from knowing how blessed we are and how much we have to be thankful for. I believe many times people try to chase happiness in material possessions, relationships with others, and forget to look inside and realize that it comes from within.

You just said happiness is being Greatful for what we have and then ended it by saying it comes from within.... you also said chasing relationships with others(that's what family and friends are)... so is it externally or internally?

God 1st, always. Happiness is innate. I have never cared what people think about me. A retired woman(Boomer) here. Happily Debt free. Not broke. Not struggling. No stress. No regrets. Never lonely. I have never been materialistic and always a saver. Not a spender. 🤑 I live frugally and am a minimalist. Consumer marketing ploys won’t work on me. I don’t need their stuff. No make up, cosmetics, jewelry, purses, etc. So much B.S. in this world. Life is too short to waste precious time and energy on B.S. The older I get, the less B.S. I can tolerate. As the saying goes, “Don’t sweat the small stuff; and it’s all small stuff”. Time and Family is what truly matters. Sharing delicious homemade meals and connecting with family and friends just can’t be beat. Good times. Today our family of retirees is gratefully blessed, thriving and enjoying a well earned comfortable retirement. God is providing. 😊 Bless the people around you and you in turn will be blessed. Thank you for this segment Mel. I appreciate you.

And even more complicated question, how to give a compliment without lying? What if there is nothing positive I can think of that I could tell someone in last 7 days? I did not anyone who I would think have nice nails, or cloths, and I can not even imagine ever thinking that. Like nails are nails, what can be nice about them? Or what can be so extraordinary about cloths to seem nice?
