Tahoe area charge from $3000 for small roof $6000 to $8000 for large snow roof cleaning ! This is greed at its finest! These companies pay there workers very little and pocket the huge profit ! It’s worst in Big Bear CA !
It's not "cleaning the roof" that is necessary to prevent all this seepage into the interior of these houses. Maybe people who haven't experienced the problem personally don't really know how it occurs. It's caused by the "ice dams" that can form gradually above the gutters. The home provides heat that can melt the snow that is in contact with the shingles. It flows down towards the gutters, gets out over the eaves where it re-freezes due to no longer being in contact with attic heat, and forms solid ice that increases in height over time. More meltwater descends, gets prevented by the ice dam from flowing into the gutters, and follows gravity by flowing underneath the shingle flaps and into the attic and walls of the interior home. Yes, removing all the snow ends the problem (and also prevents a roof collapse), but all that is really necessary is to break up the ice dams so that the snowmelt from the roof can flow into the gutters rather than inside the home. Most leases would have a clause in them making snow removal the responsibility of the tenant, and the sort of damage depicted in this video would entitle the landlord to keep the damage deposit and elect to sue the tenant if the costs of drywall, cabinet, molding, and painting repairs exceeded (as it almost certainly would) the amount of the damage deposit.
Thanks for your detailed response. Yes I was aware that it was ultimately the ice dams causing the backflow then leading to the leaking. As you mentioned, I do think it is highly dependent on the lease. All of the people that I mentioned said that their leases stated that they needed to manage snow removal from the driveway and deck but to inform the landlord of any problems such as ice dams. These friends did just that and landlords decided to do nothing. Also I think it should be said that these tenants have worked consistently throughout this season to keep their drive, decks, and walkways clear.
Sue the tenant and the Court would hear that case? The tenant ruined the House by not doing enough to save the House? Seems like the owner failed to show up and whoever is in the House is the in fact owner. Hopefully that is a Family Member I would think but maybe then again *"just abandon it...never knew who owned it in the first place."*
Alot of those landlords are probably charging such absurd rent they would have no trouble payig several thousand to clear that roof although if I were a landlord in that situation I'd take a day off work and clear the roof myself but it fits with the idea that most landords are really lazy. I can undestand tennats not willing to do anything especially if the landlord is ripping them off. I know I sound kind of cynical but I had to rent a room in a house full of strangers for many years and while I had one decent landlord at one point that was the exception most were greedy/lazy and one tried to force his religeon on me and violated my civil rights.
Tell the story about how to deal with the melting snow and how to protect the house from all the water. How are your neighbors are dealing with the roof loads. Show a van trip in video from NZ.
Now comes the aftermath from the heavy snow and rains…something you don’t wish on anyone..It might be tough for abit for many of you folks…Sometimes life takes one on a journey you may not like but during it is where you get refined..like fire on gold….At the end of it, your life will have changed to where you’ll have a deeper understanding and wisdom regarding what is most important in your lives..and definitely, it’s spiritual growth as well! Hoping for the best for you, brother, and your lovely partner and your pets, and everyone affected everywhere❤️🙏🏽
😮this is horrible and the greedy landlords that refused to clean roofs were dummys now they will have to pay much more with all the mold in the walls too
Just looking at the weather forecast for 4/26 and we be sandbagging down the road.. wait you have ice dams on your roof and you still haven't showed it up that's nuts... Full send on snow removal a hope it worked out but why.
I would love to see waterfalls eventually. Desolation wilderness up past eagle falls once accessible. Any and all waterfalls. Thank you for the videos and sacrifice of time
SAVE money by opening a passage way for water to drain inside the house....otherwise the drywall will absorb too much water and make the mess worse. Get air into cavities as soon as possible to avoid mold.
If your house has water getting in, is everybody’s doing that? That’s horrible. Even when the roofs were being regularly cleaned there was still a foot or more of snow/ice remaining. I have the impression that every single house there has major water damage inside. Yes? No?
Are people not smart enough to keep the roof shoveled off? Doesn't matter if it's a rental or not, failure to do so will come back to bite them in the a#s one way or the other.
Yeagh you never showed your roof was clean your just a complainer looking for low skilled labor, You should be on the roof during the peak of the blizzard
@@tahoemountainlife it’s 100 percent not their responsibility. It’s considered basic up keep to a property in regards to where you live. If damages occurs because this isn’t taken care of it’s on you not the landlord. Does it suck sure, should the landlord maybe help? Probably but it’s not required. Someone who moves to a location knowing it snows has an obligation to clear snow. What’s next the landlord gotta come clear your driveway too? Your back yard also? No, your responsibility and no one else’s.
These people chose to live in the mountains and are willing to pay outrageous sums of rent, they have to deal with what goes with the territory. All those houses so close together and no place to pile all this snow to get it away from the houses, that’s the price you pay. Just like people who choose to live on beaches have to deal with hurricanes and rising ocean water, it’s the price you pay for your view. Same with people who build on cliffs overlooking the ocean in California!

Shovelers make $100/hour and a snowblower earns $1,000/hour.
Figures misguided
If you live in Tahoe you can afford it.
Straight pay $25 hr. It's the steady paycheck plus OT that makes the money.

I really enjoyed your cross country Eastern Sierra camping trip with the family video!
Me too !!!! Amazing. Yes waterfall and spring meadows. Of course with the pups.

Aways buy a house in Tahoe , drive way facing south🌬️
I’d just like to see a drive around the lake to see how everything is looking.
*"Warming up starting to compact! And soon these glaciers will begin to March...in April?"*
Ahh mountain life. We love it.
Melting snow. From the Roof to the Rivers to the Reservoir!
They all sound good. Pick your favorite.
Tell the story about how to deal with the melting snow and how to protect the house from all the water. How are your neighbors are dealing with the roof loads. Show a van trip in video from NZ.
We will have to show the bongo bus in NZ. Thanks for recommendations Jerry!
fan of the dogs, thank you for making this effort, enjoy a lot,
glad you enjoy it!

I’m interested to see how long it will take until the last snow will be gone
I'll always vote for more doggos! 👏📤🌞

One of those people who lives in a lake, Pretending Tahoe is a city. You found out it’s all lake Tahoe
You do some breathtaking video, my friend. Very impressive.
Thank you for the entertainment.
Thanks mate!

Lake Tahoe in summer!
Having too much snow on the roof is dangerous. Shovel the roof.
I am curious about people that had livestock or Sled dog teams. What did they do for them?
Just looking at the weather forecast for 4/26 and we be sandbagging down the road.. wait you have ice dams on your roof and you still haven't showed it up that's nuts... Full send on snow removal a hope it worked out but why.
Hey there, hope your place fairs okay with this upcoming heat wave. Our roof is clear at the moment.
Well if the cost of maintaining property goes up, then so must the rents. Rents must go up an amount that’s fair to all.
The dogs! The dogs! Show us the dogs! I mean, your cute and all, but the doggos have you beat!
Dogs and snow melt problems.
2:38 Wow your handsome. I watched several of your videos and I don’t remember seeing your hair before. McDreamy❤❤❤❤
New Zealand! (always dogs!)
you got it!
I would love to see waterfalls eventually. Desolation wilderness up past eagle falls once accessible. Any and all waterfalls.
Thank you for the videos and sacrifice of time
Rainbow falls is the nearest. Nearest to mammoth lakes
for sure. We will be doing some hiking into desolation when able!

You live in Lake Tahoe
The leaking is very serious problem.
For sure. The landlord in that situation I showed has now agreed to hire someone to clear the ice dam.
dogs and flooding tour

This is a guess but I think about 50-60% of homes in Tahoe have had some sort of a leak this year based on my polling around town.
Living in a slushy
Time lapse high Sierra

Lazy , clean your own roof
I do clean my own roof. I'm talking about people who are renting here.
Yeagh you never showed your roof was clean your just a complainer looking for low skilled labor, You should be on the roof during the peak of the blizzard
Wow Teddy..you are rude.
Say something nice, or don’t say it at all.
Somebody told me I don’t know how to act right in Lake Tahoe so they didn’t invite me. I don’t see housing for Migrant Snow workers
Where is your housing for my migrant snow workers, Never mind where is your housing for Migrant firefighters?
Ain’t the landlords job to clear snow off a roof it’s yours. No one forced you to live in the mountains
questionable. You bring up a reasonable point. I think it depends on the lease.
