Now, as much as I love this show, it always left me with questions. One of the biggest being where did Pearl come from and how did her father end up being a crab? It's a question that's been asked many times and never directly answered, however there have been many theories to pop up on the internet over the years. Today, on our nostalgic walk down memory lane, I'm going to explain my theory AND provide you with evidence to support it.

Since Mr Krabs was in the Navy, I just assumed Pearl was an orphan he adopted.

That would imply that whales are the spongebob equivalent of Vietnamese,as MR Krabs fought in the war(he was born in 1942 so the only war he was able to be enlisted for was the Vietnam war)
i personally believed since he was a war vet, one of his war buddies died at some point. she had no other family so he etheir choose or was asked to take care of her, and could have helped cure his depression.
Orphaned child is far more realistic than the abduction theory.
But that's such a normal reason.

I saw a picture years ago of Mr. Krabs, finding baby Pearl next to her harpooned mother and taking her in. And that has always been the backstory of them in my mind.
I agree with that and I think that’s the backstory. Ever since I was a kid I had a feeling Pearl was always adopted and people always said how does he have a whale for a daughter? I would always say it’s because she’s adopted, but we never knew the backstory to why, but I believe her mother being harpooned is the backstory.

Yes I sae that few years ago and im skeptical it seems ti make sense but we do see in 1 episode a picture if mr krabs brining pearl home after she was born so I'm sirta 50/50 on wether it can fit in or not
another theory that's plausible is that mr krabs and pearl's dad were in the navy together, and mr krabs is pearl's godfather. pearl's biological dad dies, and mr krabs now has custody of pearl

I still think Pearl is adopted, just like how Heffer was adopted by the Wolfes.

Ever since 1999 when I first sae this show I was always wanting an answer for pearls backstory and 25 years later we still never got it i honestly feel they dont want to explain it since I bet at the time they did not know spongebob would become this big and it prob became ti complex fir them to write sometbing fir it and just keep Pearl an episodic character

Itd possible i feel after 25 years now without an explanation they might never answer this and leave pearl as a side character it may just be up to us fans to decide
I think there should have been more krabs and pearl episodes, with krab being less cheap, and Pearl less bratty.

@@joseph-pf5fr you're not wrong but hey, remember when Pearl saw her dad choking says "oh dad, you're embarrassing me again", or when mr Krabs gave her and her friends free water, she says thanks dad with a angry look for no reason.
Or all those times where she act intolerant towards him. And the only times krabs act cheap were The Slumber Party, Whale of Birthday.
We saw him giving Pearl the shoes she wanted in Squeaky Boots, or when he wasted money for her in Bossy Boots, or when he gave her money without exitation in Tutor Sauce. Krabs is not that horrible as dad, with a few exceptions
They've been flanderized since Season 5, all the characters have. The second movie was good and we had a few good episodes in the 2 or so seasons following it (when Stephen Hillenburg came back to work on the show more, R.I.P), but honestly the show's characters have lost most of the little nuance the had in the first three seasons and the first movie.
Is this why Krabs' family don't seem to know about Pearl? Krabs' grandpa didn't seem to recognize her at all.
Yes and we never saw mama krabs and pearp together and she seems very close to her son mr krabs my guess is they could see eachither off screen visits but thisnis what happens when a series goes on for so long they change details

They did make an episode where it was revealed that she was sent to Bikini Bottom for an extended scientific investigation, so I just always assumed that they sent an entire team of engineers to build the dome down there.
She's an undercover agent. She works with the showrunners to keep things from getting out of control, and keeps SpongeBob from finding out he's on a show.
Mr krabs knows not having pearl would save him money. But he probably doesn't ever think to give her up as that's his dear daughter pearl showing while he loves money pearl is definitely above money
He tore out his own solid gold tooth to bribe Squidward into not calling the police on him while he was raiding Squidward's fridge for Pearl during her growth spurt. He did not even hesitate.
Krabs definitely cares about Pearl, she's just in competition with his love of money. 👀
I never really thought of it as a kid. I just assumed that Mr. Krabs had a wife that was a whale, had Pearl, and fell for Mrs Puff some time after the loss of his first wife.
I think its just as likely nickeldoen or Stephen hillenburg just about never put much thought into it when they started spongebob and they still never really touch on these details and just move forward on the episodic level then real conclusion

Wrong. In SpongeBob SquarePants, Pearl Krabs' mother is a whale. A 2016 skit performed by Lori Alan and Rodger Bumpass at Dragon Con confirmed that Pearl is not adopted and that her mother was a whale. A 2000 trivia book written by former SpongeBob writer David Fain also states that Pearl "takes after her mother," implying that she is Mr. Krabs' biological child with a whale.
Not to mention Puff is explicitly stated to be a widow in the episode that introduced Krabs’ romantic interest in Puff

In the episode, Growth Spout, Mr. Krabs says he got Pearl's bed when she was a newborn.
In the episode, Whale of a Birthday, there's a banner saying It's a Boy with Boy crossed out and Girl is written. And Mr. Krabs said he got that on the day she was born. If he crossed out Boy, then that must mean he was expecting a baby boy.
Perhaps there was a surrogate involved? 🤔
That's possible but when I saw that I just laughed in the sense that he probably got that for free or very maybe he could not find a sign saying its a girl and changed it himself with him being cheap anyway
I feel like it would be a really good episode of Pearl questioning where she came from and going on an adventure to figure it out.

but instead of poachers, it was Mr. Krabs himself who shot the mother by accident
he would feel regret and terrible about what he did, so he adopted Pearl and promised himself to give her the best life he could give
Hear me out hear me out , they went on the run SEPARATELY without knowing where each of them was going, and then when Mrs. Puff went to the Krusty Krab it was their first time seeing each other again since they were on the run, so it was like fate finding each other again, that’s why Mr. Krabs reacted the way he did. He was genuinely excited but knew he had to tell SpongeBob a different story.

Bro, I’ve always wondered where pearl comes from. There are so many theories on the internet about this that are very interesting. However, in a canonical and non-theoretical sense, I guess it will remain kind of a mystery to everyone

I remember that animation by Cooler2000 which gave an idea of where Pearl came from. If Pearl was adopted, that would honestly be wholesome.

I just always assumed that Pearl was his adopted- or step- daughter, and that her mother died some time before the start of the show.

I take the side of the theory that Mr. Krab took part in a war where he murdered a whale that turned out to be Pearl's mother, adopted the orphan whale. Also I think the Krabby patty is made out of whale meat, because it sounds like Krabby doing that.
I'd like to direct your attention to Season 1 Episode 20 "Hooky" as Mr. Krabs at least knowing of Pearl's mom. He gets poked by one of the hooks while lecturing SpongeBob and Patrick and screams, "AH! Mother of Pearl! Fire on the poop deck."
As far as I can remember that was the first mention of Pearl's mom. Even if it was for a more comedic effect.
Even Spongebob repeats this in Season 2 Episode 12 The Smoking Peanut when he reacts to the oyster's pearl hatching at the end of the episode and exclaiming " Mother of Pearl! The oyster's a mother!" Now granted I'm sure Spongebob only said this after hearing Mr. Krabs shout it first in a prior episode, so we can't confirm he knows her personally.
But seeing as both instances were uttered as a quick reaction, I can imagine this was the way the show went for the character to exclaim the equivalent of "Holy crap!" or some other saying I'm not aware of with the words, "Mother of". "god" perhaps? Idk.
Maybe there was some form of extreme when it came to Pearl's mom, either through her actions or personality wise. What can you imagine would make you exclaim something out loud related about your child's mom like it was a thing to do? Was she infamous/famous? Just something to think about.
Anyways that was my 2 cents and just happened to swing by through the recommended feed. I used to binge SpongeBob with one of my oldest friends back when we were kids and I happened to remember those specific lines. Hope this helps! Sorry if it doesn't!

Still find it an odd choice of words as it was used in the show as seen in my previous post, especially if it is related to that material.

Mr Krabs and Mrs Puff love story was forgotten, but in the newer seasons there will be a lot of episodes with them

Mr krabs is very old while pearl is only 16 so it's possible
I never questioned it as a child and at that point in my life, I liked it that way because it showed that not all families look the same and not all people have two parents. I also assumed that he named her and gave her the name of a precious material because he valued her as much as he valued money.
I like the theory in one of Alex Bale's videos that Mr. Krabs killed Pearl's mom in the war, then found Pearl and adopted her because he felt bad about causing her to be an orphan.
Here's my theory.
Mr. Krabs is Pearl's stepdad. Pearl's mother was very rich, and Mr. Krabs married her for her money. When she died, Mr. Krabs discovered she had actually left the money to Pearl's, with him as custodian and executor until Pearl turned 18.
This explains why, even though he tries to be as cheap with her as with everyone else, he occasionally has to buckle and spend money keeping her happy. His time is running out (by show canon, Pearl is actually now seventeen). He gets out of line, and she's out of there, taking the majority of his fortune with her. His ability to stay well off relies on staying in Pearl's good graces.
The Mrs. Puff dating thing is probably either a timing error on the part of the show creators. Or a product of the time limbo of the cartoon (the same as the fact that, under my theory, since Pearl was 16-17 the first time we saw her, she'd have WELL passed the age of majority by now;she'd be in her thirties.)

the theories themself are really interesting, so on that aspect, great work! I think looking into the criminal history aspect of both Mrs. Puff and Mr. Krabs is a very interesting dive to take, and it does still leave so much room for future evaluation on both sides.
Video wise, I feel like each point was a bit too short to split up as frequently as they were in the video. I feel like a few minutes to a few smaller points/theories that fit together and separating based on general time (say like- first few years, after the adoption, etc.) would flow a lot better, and would prevent the amount of frequent transitions present in the video. While the presence of transitions to points isn't at all bad, it just gets a little jarring when every 1 to 2 minutes, or say- every 1 or 2 statements, there's another transition. It makes it a bit hard to focus, whether as background noise or as someone fully engaging.
Overall, you're doing really well in your experimentation with your videos, and I do hope it's been fun for you! Keep up the great work, and I hope to see more in the future!
Now I wanna see someone make a fan made film on this theory! Come to think of it, I don't I ever had any actual theories on how Krabs got Pearl. The ones that come to mind where from other people like Pearl's parents were killed and Krabs took her in or he once dated a whale. However, a theory I just now came up with is suppose Pearl isn't a whale at all. The reason I say this is cause in the episode The Algae's Always Greener, Plankton remarks about Krabs' daughter by saying "look at his daughter she's as big as a whale." Suppose she's only seen as a whale by the other characters because of her large and strong appearance and she's been a victim of body shaming. This is probably a major reach but it's just a random thing that came to mind as I was writing this comment. 😂

One thing to prove mr krabs and ms puff knew eachother is in camp coral he runs a food truck in the camp ms puff owns meaning they would’ve had to interact
Maybe Mr. Krabs was good friends with Pearls mom. Not in a friends with benefits kind of way. Or maybe he served with her real dad in the war, he was killed and upon delivering the news to his widow, she died of heartache. Krabs noticed they had a daughter and he adopted her from there... or just took her.
What if Pearl is his stepdaughter? What if Mr. Krabs fell in love with Pearl's mom, got married, and then Pearl's mom died or left? And for some reason or another Pearl's dad isn't involved and Mr. Krabs got custody of her and raised and loved her as his own?
I think it was a fan art but it was Mr. Krabs finding Pearl under her dead mother’s body after the mom was killed by whalers and he adopted her. I believe that one personally 🥰

One big problem with a former life for Mr. Krabs. Unlike Mrs. Puff, Mr. Krabs has FAMILY living in Bikini Bottom. We've seen his mother, his father and his grandfather on different occasions, and at least his mother appears to be a permanent resident. If he had started a new life with a new name, he'd have had to drag ALL of them with him; setting up new homes and identities for his parents and letting his grandpa know where he was. Plus, we know Mr. Krabs and Plankton have known each other since childhood. This all points to Mr. Krabs being a born resident of Bikini Bottom.
Is everyone forgetting about one of the newer episodes where SpongeBob and Patrick go to prison thinking it’s summer camp and there was a whale with the prisoners aka pearls dad

Whale meat! How do you think Crabs can have that much meat in his restaurant? And Mr. Krabs' returning from war or being depressed after the war is why he has Pearl he killed her parents and is using Pearl to fatten her up and then if there is a shortage at the restaurant, he could just use.....Pearl.
From the episode where Mr. Krabs and Mrs. Puff were dating, I always assumed that they were both widows who were just starting to take steps into dating again, which is really cute. I wish they showed them together in the background more often other than just those two episodes. (The second one I wasn't aware of until now since I haven't watched Spongebob for several years, so thanks fo that 😄).
I say widows because of that one gag where Krabs asks what happened to Mr. Puff, and they just show a lamp made out of a puffer fish and Spongebob being like, "She doesn't like to talk about it." (Come to think of it, maybe that's why she moved to Bikini Bottom with a new name? 🤔)
Maybe he was married at some point with Pearl's mother, or, as others have mentioned, another favorite theory is that Pearl's adopted. Whatever it is, something happened to Pearl's mother, which caused her to be out of the picture.
(About your comment on it not being easy to kidnap a baby from a hospital. It has happened. Several times. There was even a whole scandal in Spain where the church was involved where they would tell the mothers that their newborn babies had died, when in reality they were being taken and sold to multimillionaires back during the 50s and 60s. There was a case some years back where a girl found out that she had been stolen from the hospital as a baby. Her kidnapper disguised herself as a nurse and took her. It would probably be very difficult now because of the cameras everywhere and because it's virtually impossible to NOT leave a paper trail after you these days, but back then it was certainly possible.)
I mean, Mr. Krabs could have been through a Godfather system for Pearl, if Pearl birth parents are no longer in the picture, then Mr. Krabs take over as Pearl guardian, what if Pearl the daughter of old Navy friend that Krabs knew, but when passing with his wife (or in-prison if one Idea is though true) then Krabs take in Pearl as his own Child.
I always thought that maybe Mr. Krabs found pearl during the time when he was in the Navy. She found her as an orphan with a dead whale during the war and she was all alone till mr. Krabs as her own blaming himself for what
happened at the same time wanted a child and Mrs. puff so half of this could be true and soon later, he probably found out that part of his Krabby Patty recipe was whale to eat plans to maybe kill pearl later on and make more cry patties. I’m not sure if that’s true but it could be he does like me a quick buck
Real world crabs and puffers can't breed, no, but this is a cartoon - one meant to NOT make sense, at that. I'd say all 3 are likely:
1, She might be a secret love child btween the two, because cartoon logic exists in that world.
2 Mr. Krabs could have kidnapped her
3. *and possibly the most likely one) Pearl was a war orphan Mr. Krabs adopted in the Navy

Pearls was the daughter of a navy buddy. He went to jail and krabs took her in. You can see him in the newer jail episodes. And in navy buddy pictures
Another thepry is that Pearl is Krabs and Puff bio kid but the reason why she's born a whale was due to Krabs having whales in his family. How else would he aware of Pearl's growth spurt?

the abduction theory doesn't really work with the characters. the timeline also most likely doesn't follow our own so the first meeting most likely be the actual first meeting. another thing is that peral would of still stand out fro being the only whale, also doubt the mother whale would of allowed her baby to be taken since the mother whale would be much bigger then the both of them.
I think it more likely that crab did adopt peral or took her in as a orphan. are we sure that she was with crab as a newborn or later on? he would of have money or he wouldn't of got the restaurant. another thing is that if they did kidnap peral why would they commit crimes, it would give them a lot of attention which would lead to peral's discovery even in a small town.
17:36 this could also be why spongebob never passes his driving test. It's a connection to Mr crabs and pearl that isn't suspicious
So where does Plankton fit into the equation? Because I'm pretty sure it's hinted at that Krabs and Plankton have always had a lifelong feud. If Plankton and Krabs have been enemies for so long, then Plankton would of used the leverage of witnessing Krab's heinous acts in order to get the formula, no? Just a thought idk

I once heard somebody suggest the possible theory that the male whale we frequently see at the Bikini Bottom jail (heh, that rhymes) is Pearl's real dad. That's the one I'd like to believe.

As a kid, I 100% just accepted Pearl as Mr Krabs' biological daughter.
The furthest I thought about it was, "oh! Pearl's mom is probably a whale."
I still think mr krabs is a sugar daddy because think about it pearl always calls him daddy daddy dadddy and only appears whenever pearl want something and mr krabs just always gives her whatever she wants think about it people think lol i no sounds absurd but is true

All in all: Very entertaining and more beluevable than you seem to even realize. I feel your case coulda been made a tad bit smoother, but your points ultimately make good sense..
Do wish a bit you looked at what 2000 Spongebob episode most closely lined up with the 16 years comment just for laughs, but I can see how that would be too low relevance to matter.
To be honest, I was kinda "panicking" when you asked the Questions about Pearl, the secret formula and Mrs Puffs past in the same minute...
Alex bales darkest Theories are the ones that answer these very Questions and they are disturbing (even if in a good way). But I'm really that you build your own Theory!
The problem with this theory is it’s very well established Mr. Krabs is from Bikini Bottom given his life long friendship with Plankton and his Mother living not too far away

I don't even think Pearl and Mrs. Puff have ever had one single interaction, on screen, with each other through the 25 years SpongeBob has been on the air. If they were together before the show started and abducted Pearl and Krabs still has feelings for Puff, I highly doubt that Krabs wouldn't have had at least one Freudian slip and let slip that Puff is her "mother".
Weirdly enough the writers involved in the patrick star show made it seem like he killed Pearl's mom and at most used her body in early krabby patties

Mayonnaise IS an instrument.
I bet he found a random whale and kept it to harvest Ambergris from, as its extremely valuable stuff. (It doesn't have to harm the whale to expel the Ambergris, in theory)
... Except it turns out it was a baby, and before he knew it, he was doting on his new daughter.
I could potentially see a whole episode about it, where he greedily takes a whale, is eaten up by his guilt, only to find that she was, in fact, an orphan.
