Wow Emily has a strong portfolio and explain in depth what she did with meaning behind them. I just graduated today and I feel that my portfolio aren’t as strong. I know we are not supposed to compare ourselves to others but I definitely have all long way to go as a graphic designer. It is incredible to see her work even in early stage, I can see why she is valuable as a designer. Time for me to get some courses on The Future to learn more about design. Thank you for sharing Emily. I think you guys should do a few episodes on critiquing brand new graduate or self-taught graphic designers on their portfolio. Criticism can be such an asset to someone like myself.
Mandy Crawford thanks Mandy!
We will have more episodes coming!
Dang. I just graduated and Her portfolio is better than mine by far. I gotta step it up! Well done Emily!
So how about now?
i've been looking up to emily since she had the exposure here on thefutur. she really is good with what she does. impressive.
Yeah she is great.
This was great, two designers breaking down work in a very natural way. Hearing people speak the language of design is always inspiring and Emily had some awesome stuff to show!
It's amazing to see Emily thinking in so many different ways. In one project, she shows that she can create an entire solution from print to motion. Multi-talented in this case would be an understatement.
This video couldn’t have been better timed! I’m in the process of prepping my own portfolio! Awesome Emily! Thank you!
Good luck on your portfolio Ashley!
Happy you enjoyed it!
do other blind members portfolios after they got out of school too!
I'm sure it can't be that bad haha. I am close to graduating from design school right now and it's really nice to see peoples work when they were in school, especially seeing their growth over the years is very inspiring
kkeeeeen
We will!
I'd really like to see Ben Burns, doesn't he have a unique background being mainly self taught? It'd be cool to see someones portfolio not coming from a design school.
@@MatthewEncina bump ;) aka. let's not forget haha
You guys doesn't stop making good and interest content. By far, one of my favorite youtube channels. Keep it up!
We won’t stop!
This is awesome. Speaks to me on so many levels. I studied film and worked my way to be a cinematographer, but I realized it along the way it's not really working out. I switched to graphic design, but I still love the movie format, the motion, and the big picture. I really want to get involved with that more, but now as a graphic designer. This video reel idea is so great, I think I might give that a shot. Also, I love the whole Futur team, but Emily is definitely my favorite! Go Emily!
Great video. Aside from the wonderful work, she’s also extremely articulate and does a great job of walking us through her process (which isn’t always easy). Also, the lighting is gorgeous in this video!
Emily provides some of the most thoughtful insight on this channel.
she will be missed.
I'm such a huge fan of Emily! I love her works and she's really amazing. Awesome video, guys! Thanks 🤗
Harriet C. Thanks Harriet!
We are a huge fan too :)
@@emilyxie9011 'I love you'r designs.👍
Emily's personality mostly matches with my thoughts as she said she liked graphic design with a little bit motion graphic. I think that's the sweet combinination for a lookout
Man!.. I just love how you treat graphic design in there.. you have colleges for it and you take it the way you should have taken it.. here in Syria we don't have that kind of thing.. when you want the graphic design to be your major.. you should do it your self and struggle to find resources
Just wanna say THANKS FOR EXISTING the Future.. your videos like the best free resources for inspiration and graphic design related information ❤❤
I love how she says "uh huh"
Usually I don’t comment on videos, but in this case I need to make an exception!
All of the work looks just awesome! I really liked the last one, especially because it is kind of experimental with a scientific background.
Great work Emily, can’t wait for part two.
Greetings from Berlin, Germany.
Thank you for the comment, glad you enjoyed it, more to come :)
Thanks for commenting! Can't wait for part two too!
emily making incredible stuff i really luv her work , it's simple & aesthetic someting u'll remember it for a long time
I am an Advertising Student & want advice on what should I have in my Advt portfolio & how can I land a job in an advt agency? It would be a great help if you guys made a video on Advt Portfolio. Thanks for sharing such awesome knowledge.
It's awesome to see Emily again!
Great stuff guys! The word "extraordinaire" wasn't exaggerated...She's amazing!! 👊👊👊
Joshua D Mugayi aww thanks joshua!
Yes she is :)
Really inspiring video! Related so much to Emily especially with motion graphic. Another way to continued working hard to become a graphic designer!
She is pretty good, from the start, congratulations! I think she is going to have a very successfull career, power to you!
Can't quite say that this content is something I can get into but I can say that Emily seems like a pretty chill person.
She seems amazing even in her school. Good work Emily
Love that Honda Research America logo... and I certainly saw the “R” lol
This is great! Would you guys do a series for graphic design prompts similar to Emily’s school assignments? For beginner viewers
While designers are creative, many don’t yet have the life exposure to business, the other side of the brain that is charged to come up with rational content and subject matter , may be the biggest challenge...it’s like I want to write a book , but what is that book going to be about....?
Hence it would really help that many collaborate with writers and marketing minds...
This needs imagination not rationality! Imagination and creativity are probably the most basics of the design field. Thus, I believe a designer in my opinion is more adept at creating Content and subject matter. Rationality is what most of us lack!
damn, her work is beautiful and so inspiring to watch. really glad to learn from her! an amazing designer
Would love some breakdown of Blind's work too. Case studies on the site are great, but would like this personable breakdown too! Anime Expo!
Emily, I loved the light pollution idea and design! So cool! I can see that being used today.
Great video. Emily I'm curious to see you new portfolio. Pretty sure is amazing, you where already talented!
Gianfranco Cioffi you can check them out on my website at

Emily Xie, hi! Did you create your portfolio website by yourself?
Really enjoy watching this video. Amazing portfolio for such a young designer. I’d be amazing to watch something like what employer is looking at while recruiting a new person for the agency. Why this stands up and what could we work on to make things better. I’ve already learned presentation is the key and it’s definitely worth working on this. I’m always confused how many pieces of work should I send and should I have something to explain what is it about or let the work speak for itself.
We've done several videos on how to present your work, and how to land your first internship. Also on various live streams we talk about what we look for in portfolios and people:
1. Work that looks like it belong's in the company's portfolio
2. An awesome personality.
Your portfolio gets you the interview. Your personality lands you the job.
i guess i will have a look. well said "your portfolio gets you the interview. your portfolio lands you the job."
loving the new outro music...awesome!!
love the hidden wonder concept, very intresting
Amazing!!! I love seeing an updated portfolio from a student!!! Setting the bar Emily!
Crushing heavily on Emily. The fact that her work is so good doesn't make it easier lol!
Love the back ground song✍
Fantastic video - great work, people, editing & sound design. Exactly what a design channel should be
i like the way how they ve changed the title song ...its sweet
The last part was just simply dope...super original
emi and chirsh u guys ar such and inspiration who made me learn some thing about typography and print media... and @TheFutur was my boost up for my 2018 end up marvelouslly
It's good to see Greg starring in a show
I agree :)
I love Emily! She’s so talented!!! 💕
We love her too!
That HRA logo is on point!
Where the heck did this girl study? we never had access to projects like this at my university :(
She graduated from ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, CA. Chris, Matthew, and a few other Blind staff members graduated from there as well.
I was fascinated with Emily's strong portfolio! I enjoyed this video.
I came across this channel not long ago, and I'm intrigued by the content made by this channel…I’d like some advice from the Futur Team, I freshly graduated from senior high school. For my future career I want to be a graphic designer. I’ve applied to a few universities, waiting to get accepted. Some of the unis I applied to require a portfolio…I have a blank portfolio, I don’t know where to start or how I can build it up from scratch.
You are awesome Emily! Congrats ✨💕
I remember working on and completing my graphic design reel back in 2012
Idk why, but Thats so emotional 🥺🥺🥺 ❤❤ . Thank you, great guys🙏❤
Thank you 🙏
@@thefutur I just come to rewatch it and I find you here guys, Thank you again ❤🙏
They have some chemistry!
Watching this for the first time today and I just want to say...I saw the "R" right away. lol
I thought the background on the "What's / Next" screen was a B&W picture of a dune. The time-space continuum figure looked to me as a red cell instead. The elliptical shape, and the red color, threw me off, even though she had provided context. The one in the middle even looks like a coffee grain. The idea of simulating light pollution with the panels was awesome. Having said that, I wish I could do the things she showed.
you can Edwin. we all start somewhere. stick to it.
Fantastic insight, thank you!
Excellent work Emily!
Thanks Constantine! :)
Awesome Erika, your work is among my favorite. I look forward to your futur endeavors.
Loved this vid, Emily is super inspiring and talented! ✨
she is.
Incredible.
Beautiful work, very inspiring.
John Valatos thanks John!
Dunno why but the last couple of videos looks a lot better than usual. I don't mean the content which of course is great, the video just looks a lot more "professional".
Aaron is stepping up his game
Great stuff!
Such a good video!
Review Jaime next!!! Or Molly!!!
Your videos are very inspiring and helpful! Thanks a lot!
Thank YOU Inder!
Awesome content!
Your portfolio looks really cool. I especial like the museum project. What code language did you use in your museum project? Thanks for sharing
Heidi Skovbjerg Brandt it’s a program called processing
Thank you for taking your time to answer. :)
Emily is amazing! by the way does anyone know of resources where i can learn coding on processing? thank you!
I love this.
this is awesome!
That was ur first portfolio???? It looks really professional!
art center helps to prepare students to enter the work place as a professional.
emily is lovely! but im abit confused, did she have anything to do with all those 3d animations on her real (ice age/etc), cuz there are a ton of them.
No, she created the information graphic overlays that animated on top of the content. This is known as a "broadcast package" or "channel identity system"
Question - can we also see more behind the scenes work from the new brand identity work Blind are doing?
we will try.
Is she using a MacBook air for graphic design? I am interested in purchasing one because it's very lightweight and "more powerful" compared to Macbook 12". A lot of people told me it's already enough despite of the display. Please let me know of your opinion guys. Thanks.
I use a Macbook Air 13'' for my graphics work and some mild video editing and it's been okay for me. I do feel like a bigger screen is needed sometimes when I'm editing photos but so far, it's been great for me. I hope this helps!
Venissê Lindenau Thank you! 😁😁
Really enjoyed the video! Btw, who was that person that told us to subscribe? Never saw him before lol!
Bash 717 thanks Stewart the awesome guy that edited this video!
Stewart is our editor
I'm curious what was the work that got her the Blind internship?
Maybe Emily can answer that.
One of them was my HRA rebrand, the others are.... in my hard drive, archived away from the public. Haha.
soo sweet!
I just wish i could sfford to learn all this.
If the portfolio has any flaw, Emily's smile and laughter will cover that up.
Client: I can't understand the design. Why this why that?
Emily: :-) ... haha
Client: Here's 20000$ in advance.
Haha
Cool video. The background music feels too somber and distracting, though
Side question: What's the background music at 17:35?
Amazing portfolio! Anyone know what the "What's Next" typeface is?
It's called "Vaud"
I'm really confused by this why is Alvin and the Chipmunks movie on a student demo reel?
The guy at the end appearing out from nowhere scare the shit out of me
Great content, but I'd revisit the music choice for future iterations as it felt a little too on the nose inspirational. It kept taking me out of the experience.
Keep rockin' it!
I really like the music, it just felt maybe to intimate
Where's first portpholio?
I enjoy some of her work, but everything I’ve seen so far of hers is all the same Black, Red, White with very similar little icon treatments.
Artsigma please
Eh lohh chef Renata udah ganti career
Is Macbook Air a good laptop if I'm gonna be concentrating mainly on graphic designing? Is the display good enough? I'm looking for something that's not very bulky but can handle Illustrator, Photoshop and the lot. Can anyone suggest a good laptop(Windows/Mac) for less than 1000$?
Subin Krishna it will go above your budget but I would suggest the MacBook Pro 15 inches. If not, 13. MacBooks and MacBook airs won’t have enough processing power if you are doing heavy things on ai and ps. Also I feel like the standard for Apple products are all Retina display now and MacBook Air still isn’t.
Notification squad
Emily Love from pakistan i'm your Biggest fan
wait...she is a pro back then..:)
I would have died to get 2k for a school project in college
I dont really understand what she worked on in her portfolio. What is all the Pixar stuff doing there?
omg emily is so cute
Wow she is so young... yet she is so much more experienced than me
Great math.. "interned in 2014, so it's been two years, almost three.. well, almost four".. hahaha
Artist for a reason.
what's wrong with the alignment?
whose house it's this? it's nice
MORDEKAIZ it’s blind! Lol.
I don't understand what you mean by blind? lol, I was just wondering to see if in the art industry could get you a fridge like that one ;)
MORDEKAIZ it’s the office of Blind and The Futur.
oh cool! thanks for the reply
what typeface is that ?
ChinWag which one?
Emily Xie what's Next screen
ChinWag it’s a typeface called Vaud
Thank you
Hmm, it must've taken alot of patience to look up information on design and apply it to your own skills, instead of figuring it out by yourself.
