- Want to move WSL and its VHDX to another drive but don't know how? Don't want to use the normal method of backup and restore? This new method is SUPER quick, and I have no idea why nobody else is using this. There's probably a reason, but it works just fine. This is the forbidden method of moving WSL and its files to another drive.

Great tutorial. I used it to move Ubuntu 22.04 (jammy jellyfish) to another drive because it was taking up all the space. For some reason the link shell extension was only working when i ran the installation as administrator if anyone is having issues. Cheers mate you are a life saver !!!!!!!
Well explained and elegant! Thank you bro!
It's working very well. Thank you so much!
Extremely helpful, thanks a ton :)
That is the most brillent thing i've seen in a while!! can we use this method to move different pakeges and sections of the memory since it's all a pointers?? thx!!
Thank you bro my C: Drive was so full.
OMG you just saved me a headache. I was about to migrate my whole OS to a new 2Tb Drive cos my dev files are eating up space.
What a good idea, cheers mate

Damh bro awesome ❤❤❤❤👍👍
Did everything as instructed on the Symlink method. Everything seemed perfect-ish, but i happen to have an error whenever i try to open VSCode inside the newly located Ubuntu. It goes 'ENOPRO: No file system provider found for resource', and it doesn't 'connect to WSL remote', it seems. Any ideas on that?
you a god you must be appraise
thanks bro this thing exist
what about the packages that i install in wsl after moving it to a different directory? will those package also be downloaded in the directory that i moved it to?
Hey I tried this and it didnt work and now I cant get it back i was using wsl2 though should that make a difference
Excelllent..
awesome
I ran into this problem
touch: cannot touch '/root/.motd_shown': Read-only file system
Does anyone got this error, and how to fix it?
this has issues sometimes it make the wsl run in readonly mode for some reason and doesnot wont to exit the readonly mode
That's great, but I wonder if I can migrate a WSL VM to a full Ubuntu machine?
Does moving the WSL file mean that it uses up the storage in the new drive? Basically, when I try to extend wsl disk space, does it use the space in the new drive or does it still use the old one?
It uses the new one, mate
