    I've never owned small animals. I'm getting two rats pretty soon. And with all the research I've done, I can tell small animals aren't for you. That wheel is unsuitable for the poor thing. It could hurts its feet really bad. The cage is unbelievably too small for it. Rats and mice like to climb. That one is just in an itty bitty box. Please do some research and prepare before you get these types of pets.

    I think that the reason we end up getting more pets even after our previous ones have died is because even though their deaths are hard and difficult to get over, the joy and happiness they bring when they're alive is worth the grief and sadness of their passing. My pets are my best friends, and they help me get through life even if its for a short time.

    It's kindof cruel that you just let them bleed out. like really? Even if you couldn't afford a vet you can at least wrap them so you don't just watch them pass right Infront of your eyes! And that cage..... IS SO SMALL! you wonder why your pets die? Maybe do some research and you can avoid everything that you did wrong. Sickens me to see this video😞

    wow so sad that these animals all came into your lives and were neglected, you kept a gerbil alone then dropped it ! you got a mouse to live alone you could not convince your parents to take your rats to the vet after she broke the skin ( you should not have let it get that far ) you could have shown them how cruel it was, that cage is not a cage its a tiny constricting torture chamber its sad that your parents let you have pets at all i don't think you deserved them after how you cared for them and all mice should live 3 years its not exceptional its just because you did not care for all the other rodents properly :( please do your research

    I really enjoyed this film and it was very well done! I must say people in the comments are criticizing you for your care, but honestly, I can tell you care about your animals. I'm really sorry for what happened with your pets.
    I just say that though you care, your pets are not receiving proper care. It's not expensive to care for them properly, in assume you just don't know how. Mice are really curious and need really large cages. You can buy glass aquariums or you can just buy a plastic bin and add mesh wire to the lid for ventilation. Also, rodents need a skid wheel that's around 12 inches in diameter. Otherwise, they spines will unnaturally curve.
    Also, I understand where you are coming from, but I hope your pet journey doesn't end here. Mice can live a long time just get from a good breeder. Pet store mice always have some problem or another. Also, small pets may not be for you. You can always get guinea pigs or rabbits which are still inexpensive but have much longer life spans and are much hardier
    What ever you get, please take some time and do proper research. It doesn't take long but it can help you save lots of money and provide a much better life for these amazing animals

    I have had 7 hamsters. All of them have passed away, but they have lived good long lives. However, one hamster had his life cut too short. His name was Hammy, our only male. Hammy was put up for adoption and my family took him in. He was treated with the same care and respect my other hamsters got. One day, when I let my hamsters roam free in their balls, his eyes were shut and I didn't know what was the problem. He wasn't as fast or energetic as the rest by then. A week later, he died. At the time, he was my fourth hamster and first to have passed away. Even though your rodents left a different way, this video reminded me of the way hamsters can die because of sicknesses and not by age. R.I.P. Hammy, you will always be missed.

      Montelle Kamara Trying would mean not to get pets when you can't care for them properly. Try to resist your egoistic desisions of owning a living creature. Mice are incredibly smart and clean. Rats in fact clean themselves just as much as cats do. They can be used to do a police dog's work and learn their job faster.

    • @nonyabuis4590
      @nonyabuis4590 8 лет назад +2

      +Kaylea Lawley The wheel is incredibly dangerous. If the animal missteps even once it's leg could fall in between the wires and break its leg.

  • @Jesserca313
    @Jesserca313 10 лет назад +14

    If you did research youd know the proper care. The cage is far too small the wheel can cause harm and who even knows if you give them decent food and fresh water everyday there is a lot that goes into a pet and just from this it isn't surprising your rodents don't live long. Its a miracle what proper research can do for the life of your pet.

    I had rats when I was a very young kid. My mom had to "set them free" in the woods because my little sister liked to toss them in the air and catch them. Sometimes they hit the ceiling. Sometimes she missed when she tried to catch them. I've had hamsters and mice too. They don't live very long, mice and rats only live 2 or 3 years. I got new rats when I was 13 and they were the best thing to happen to me. I keep getting rats because I know that even though I will get heartbroken every few years, giving these creatures a happy life is worth it. A rat's flame burns quick, bright, and passionately. Their lives are short, but they are so full of energy, love, and happiness. One of mine is giving my fingers "kisses" as I try to type this. I've taken breaks from having them because of heartache, but I always find myself getting them again.
    I'm sorry that people in the comments are being rude. You were recounting your childhood experiences. My parents were ignorant about rodent care. My father grew up on a farm. If an animal was sick there, his dad shot it to put it out of it's misery. A $5 hamster wasn't worth his time to even whack it in the head. He just let nature take its course because that's how he was raised. Sadly, a lot of people scoff at the idea of taking a rat to the vet because they only cost $6 at the pet store. It's not your fault.

    I love how everyone is flipping out over the cage, and making it sound like 'no wonder his pets are dying'
    But all of the issue he just described of his pets dying had NOTHING to do with the size of the cage. People freak out over all of these problems that can occur with 'unproper' care, but how many times do these problems actually occur?
    Also, this is not even close to animal abuse.
    Will you people just shut the heck up, please?

      Whitney Richardson I completely agree. Rodents don't live long and are prone to certain diseases which are beyond our control. He is grieving the loss of his friends because they matter to him and he cares. I see youtube videos of people feeding perfectly healthy rodents to their pet reptiles. Why not go complain on their channels, just to be fair about animal treatment.

    • @MIZZKIE
      @MIZZKIE 7 лет назад +3

      If you really think this isn't animal abuse, then please lock yourself up in your bathroom and live there for a month without any TV, books, internet, games, smartphones, computers, etc (meaning any means to entertain yourself). If the bathroom has a window, close it and put curtains so that you can't see outside.
      It will only take a few hours for you to feel the agony of boredom, the same stress that animals - especially intelligent animals such as rats - feel when kept in tiny cages with no mental stimulation.
      Abuse isn't just about physical punishment. Prolonged psychological stress is just as much abusive as a punch or kick.
      No matter how you put it, no matter how you try to justify it, keeping an animal in an inadequate living condition for that species or individual is ABUSE. Period.

    I have kept my fair share of rodents, mainly gerbils and my heart breaks every time one dies. I had 2 sister gerbils who were together for 4 years. One suddenly died and left the other alone. She got so depressed and lonely without her sister. I tried everything to keep her happy but nothing worked, she stopped eating and she died 2 weeks later, even though she was perfectly healthy, she just didn't want to be here without her sister. It was the most heart breaking death so far. RIP to them all.

  • @firefairie94
    @firefairie94 10 лет назад +3

    I have to say everyone, don't freak out so much over wire and mesh wheels. If your mouse or rat is doing fine not catching it's footing/tail, they will be fine. I'd choose a mesh over a wire one, but they are still ok. But by how your mouse is* hopping, the bars are too far apart for it.
    But GuitarClock your mice will live MUCH MUCH longer if you got them a bigger cage. Your mouse can't exercise. All it has is a wheel that is meant for a dwarf hamster, and those are actually too small for mice. Ive noticed they don't like their tails crammed over their head. But a wheel is not the only thing you give your mouse for exercise. They are intelligent and need LOTS of things to explore to be happy and a lot of room to run, even for just one mouse, because they go go go for along time. Also at 3:19, by the looks of your mouse's fur, it isn't grooming right. Your little guy needs looked at, he is too mellow and im pretty sure he has scabs on his side. With those itchy scabs, the best bedding would be paper towel instead of that blue bedding that can make the itching worse.
    Mice may be small, but you can't get away with putting them in something that small. They just get depressed and bored.
    I don't mean to sound like a dick, but your mice seem to have had a lot of skin problems in the past and you may want to look into how your caring for them. It's normal every now and then, but not one mouse after another.
    Also the reason it's great to get pets you outlive, is because you get to bring a great life to even more of those animals in the time YOU are here.
    Good luck on your future pets :)

    Hey, I just wanted to say how sorry I am for Theo! I just got a couple of mice, I'm usually a dog person, but I'm having the time of my life watching them grow and play, and learn. Rodents are amazing! I understand your pain, my best friend, my Sunshine she picked her cancer constantly. And we had to go for that walk to the vet... And I wondered a lot about why getting another dog, and I realized that, in my case, it was something I did for myself. During this time Sunshine was part of my life, she saved me in every way a person can be saved. In return I watched over her. I didn't do for her half of what she did to me, but I tried to give all I could for her. Pets add shimmer in our lives. They shimmer in their own glow.

    In 2010 you had so much proper info about mice online, it's horrifying that you kept one like this! The fact that they died was probably the best for them rather than existing like this. Don't even mention how much the treatments cost, that makes you even sound more like an idiot! Don't let a mouse 'bleed out', have it either surgically treated or euthanised! Research their cage requirements, get a wheel which is not a death trap, etc etc!

    This made me cry because of the state the cage was in as in size and the things the hamster could do. It had no chews and the wheel was not safe. Also why would you fight over an animal so that it becomes in such a state that it could die. Remember they are fragile unlike humans and you have to be careful with them.

    can i give you some advice ? when you hold color mice as your pet please get a pair of them , most of the mice species are group animals ... next the cage. if you want a good cage get a cage with the measures of 100x 50 x 50 , put in some wooden litter and get a weel from the diameter from 20 cm not lower and get one that is completly closed. i saw that you fed theo with nuts and sunflower seeds , you can do that but not to often because they are to fat for mice and other rodents ... and yes even those small animals net to see the vet if they are ill. if you thinking they are cheap because they don't live long or because they are so small forget about that... i had a mouse that was very sick and i went to the vet 2 times a week and every time i paid around 10 - 15 euros ... so i beg you please inform yourself about the animals you want to hold as a pet ! the animals will thank you for that

    I lost my dog of 13 years last year, but had been away from him for the last 6 years of his life, since I was at college. That didn't change how much I miss him, even until today. I've been planning on getting rats for a few months, have brought the everything. The cage is late, but I want to be a mom already! I have finally decided to go ahead and get them and keep them in a large plastic bin until the cage comes, so that come Christmas they are ready to leave with me.

    plz get a larger cage please. the wheel is too small the cage is too small and the wheel should not have a metal bar bottom. The tiny feet could get caught.

    my girly ratties had the same mamory tumor i paid a lot to keep getting them removed and once they both reached the age of two they were starting to show their age a little so i left them and in the end they grew too large, i kept cream next to my pillow all night and she passed early in the morning, custard i got put down when she got to the same stage cream did, it was incredibly hard to lose such good friends. i hope you continue to have rodents and love them as you clearly have in the past.

    Rodents are quite prone to these sorts of things, and it's really very terrible when they get sick. It is always right after you've become unexpectedly attached to them. Our home has never recovered the loss of our first rat, and we constantly worry about how the other will pass. We wanted to buy her a new cage mate, but cry every time we meet a potential new pal for her... unable to convince ourselves to go through it yet again.

    Dude stop buying pets! I know that they keep dying due to cancer and skin disease but come on! Research the type of rodent you want and what it needs! That poor mouse lives in a dang shoebox! Its SMALLER than a shoebox! And it has a wire wheel! Stop buying them and save up money for a vet fund!

    oh my god saddest video ever!!! :( I'm sooo sorry for all what you've been through, I know how attached one can get to ANY pet.... seriously your video made me cry. I don't want to sound rude but, if somebody decides to bring home a pet, no matter what it is, the very first thing to keep in mind is if you have the possibility to afford a vet if anything happens to it

    I don't have small animals, know why? Because I KNOW my small pets wouldn't have a great life if I bought them. Plus, a rat is expected to live 5 years. Petco says they live for two years because their animals are sick. My cousin, however, has a six year old rat. Turning white, incredibly active.

    To those who's are commenting hate- I understand your anger and worry but the world already has enough hate in it so you can stop; I doubt you guys have missed the other 1000 haters saying the cage is too small or the wheel shouldn't be wired, and I agree, but being aggressive about it and saying that the pets aren't better off dead than in that environment, you're lying, life is life and I doubt anyone or any pet would prefer to be dead rather than having less space or a bad wheel, so please just keep the comments appropriate and friendly, it's obvious why the world has war when people argue like this on a youtube channel

    I cried... My first hamster, Hamtara died because my sister dropped her and she broke her leg. At the time i didn't care much because i was in second grade and Hamtara always bit me whenever i tried to touch her. A few years later i got a new hamster, Squeakers. He died last week and I arranged to get another one next week from a girl who lives in my area (To fill the void left my baby, squeakers). He lived for 4 full years while most hamsters only live for 3.

    As sad as this seems , people need to realise this was filmed in 2010. There is now more places to research about pets and there is also more facts about keeping pets especially on knowing what to and not to do. I bet he has improved his pet care since then. As strange as it seems people most likely understand so much more about pets now than ever before. More facts are being found and more information on care is being shown. I feel bad for these creatures but like I said this was a long time ago and he possibly improved his care for pets. -Chloe

    I had pet mice when I was younger and for bedding (not what they slept on, but to cover the cage) they made me use sawdust. I've recently found out that this can cause breathing problems and possibly contain parasites :/ so this is a reason some pet mice die.

    I know why you get new pets. Because you know you can give them the life they deserve. I have four mice, and I have had three hamsters and two rabbits in the past. When they die, I feel terrible. But when I get over it, I devote my time to another animal, to make his life just a good as it gets.

    Your video made me cry....I enjoy having pets in my life but I haven't had the best of luck with pets either. over the the course of 12 years. cats=Cancer, killed by a dog, & ran away. Hamsters= sick, spider bite in the eye, froze to death. Ginea Pig= heat stroke. Dog= got ran over 7months ago. And my son is ready for another pet hamster. I strongly agree that people, especially children should have some kind of pet in their life. So it's time for another pet.
