How to Bake a Wedding Cake:
    2x 6" round cake pans
    2x 8" round cake pans
    2x 10" round cake pans
    Cake boards (6", 8", 12")
Vanilla cake batter (or any flavour that you prefer)
    Vanilla buttercream
    Wedding Cake Recipe Procedure:
Preheat oven to 350F. Grease and line each pan with parchment, or wax paper. The 6" pans will require 2 cups of batter each. The 8" pans will require 3.5 cups of batter each. The 10" pans will require 6 cups of batter each.
Bake the 6" pans in the oven for 25-30 minutes.
Bake the 8" pans in the oven for 35-40 minutes.
Bake the 10" pans in the oven for 55-60 minutes.
Allow each to cool completely on a wire rack before proceeding to coat in buttercream.
Attach one 6" cake layer to the 6" cake board, using a swipe of buttercream to "glue" it to the board.
Cover the top of the cake with a layer of buttercream, and then place the second 6" layer on top.
Cover the whole cake in a crumb coat (thin layer) of buttercream.
Repeat for the 8" and 10" cakes.
When the crumb coat layer has crusted, you can apply the second and final layers of buttercream. Smooth the buttercream using a metal spatula.

  • @erinlaurent1492
    @erinlaurent1492 8 лет назад

Thank you so, so much for this! I am getting married July 16th in Paris and though the French have some great bakers, they're not used to making "American" wedding cakes. I told my fiancé (who's French) that my only real request was that we have an American wedding cake (and not a "croquembouche" like the French normally serve at weddings). We found a baker near our venue who's willing to try to make a tiered cake, but wanted as much information (recipes, advice, etc.) I could give him. I'm just going to send him here to your youtube channel and ask him to follow your videos to a T. Thank you so much for these videos -- even with the language barrier, the visuals will help immensely! ~Erin

Wax paper should only ever be used in cold applications, otherwise the wax WILL melt. Parchment for hot applications. Beware! When the wax melts in the oven it dissolves into your cake! Yuk!

Hi Jen! I can't tell you how much I love your tutorials! You are so cheery and not to mention very well spoken. I really enjoy watching them, thank you! This particular tutorial provided me with information that, as a home baker, I've wondered for quite some time. Thank you, thank you!! I was asked to make my first wedding cake coming up in August. I am beyond excited but terribly nervous. Can you offer me any tips on creating a semi-naked wedding cake? Also, how many cups of batter would you say to use in a 9 inch pan?

  • @pipari100

Wedding is in two days. Every other tutorial went totally over my head (I cook, I don’t bake) and looked like a fortune in equipment.
But I can do this. This is doable. You have completely saved my ass.

1.) Can i make this a day ahead?
2.) Can i use chocolate mousse or cheesecake in between the layers? Do you think they will hold?
3.) Other than sponge cake is there any moist-er-ish, or softer cake that can hold 3 tiers?
Thank you thank you thank you and thank you so much for this video. I find that your videos are the most informative.

For a wedding cake, you usually end up having to use a firmer cake batter so that it results in a firmer cake because it will hold up better to stacking.

      @lmal8207 7 лет назад +8

Jan Davis i asked myself the same question. All my cakes are sponge cakes and they are very smooth batters. my Chocolate cakes are made with a really runny chocolate batter and is super moist. Shes probably using a pound cake recipe but any recipe is fine. As long as u support and dowel it correctly your good to go. Also for wedding cakes u should always use a drum board that is 4 inches bigger then the cake so u can get a good grip when ur holding a really heavy wedding cake. i work in a wedding cake shop :)

This cake will be dry and not very tasteful, I'm afraid. The cake layers are too thick in comparison to the layers of buttercream and lack moisture. I would suggest thinner layers and jam. Even wedding cakes don't need to be so compact as you support each layer anyways.

gigglemama111 There are usually several "pet peeves" of mine that I see her do/Not do in her videos. I just chalk most of it up to differences in the way ppl work. But sometimes it's just general sloppiness or shortcuts that I can't deal with.

alexea 209 Please post the videos of the beautiful cakes that you have personally made so that we may all see what the standard of your opinion is and post our own opinions. Perhaps some of us will offer constructive criticism rather than going out of our way to be nasty for no good reason.

…🌱🪴🌻You’ve all heard of DIY “Quarantine Hair Bleaching” (and been there done that successfully); well I am not a professional baker, however, been asked to make a 3-tier Wedding cake (is why I am here to study these tutorials); so my point is it’s like “Quarantine Wedding Cake Baking” for me lol.

Cookies Cupcakes and Cardio Hi Jen, how many wedding sized servings would the 10, 8 & 6 provide? I have my first wedding cake order and i need to serve 75 comfortably. One vanilla cake, one chocolate cake and one diabetic friendly vanilla cake all covered in buttercream except the top tier which will be the diabetic one. It's a Harley Davidson cake. Really excited but very nervous. It's for the 18th of July so i'm baking today :-)

It serves 82 ppl. But you're making an extra cake si it'll work (ps: i saw in one of her comments that it serves 82 ppl, so i'm not really sure)

This series is so helpful. I wondered if using square pans instead of round ones would the quantities of cake mix be the same? Thank you. :)

Jen, I was just wondering if you ever use a custard filling, or do you usually just use buttercream in between the layers. Can you maybe show us sometime how to do a tiered cake with a filling?
