This was so much better than other videos I’ve watched, you really broke down each strat into smaller and more easily understood tips and tricks. For example, pivoting and strafing were well explained
This video is absolutely gold, thank you for making this. This is probably the most helpful video I've seen about getting better at Tarkov. Maybe people who take these games more seriously already know this stuff, but for me this was like hearing how an Olympic athlete thinks about and practices their sport. There are many good Tarkov players, but what's important here is that you're conscious of what you're doing, why you're doing it, and you're able to articulate that to others. After watching this video, go watch some of Desmond's other videos or streams, and you'll see how they put all these techniques together. It was awesome to watch him go jump fire, jiggle peak, circle strafe, etc. (Then get reported as a cheater...) Desmond: "As you can see, I haven't warmed up yet, obviously" Me: "I have never hit that many consecutive shots on the best day of my entire life."
I've watched a ton of beginner videos over the last 2 years since I bought Tarkov and this is by far the greatest breakdown I've seen out of any of them. I had no clue it was like this. As you said, pure gold content here.
How can someone be underrated when nobody is being rated? Who has ever said this guy isn’t good or that other streamers are genuinely amazing at the game? Nobody.
Amazing video. This is one of the only games where aim has so many incredibly subtle mechanics to grasp that rarely if ever get covered. I'm happy there's a resource covering those instead of just being basic aim training advice universally applicable for every FPS and found in videos for each of them. This is the difference between a game feeling slightly off and being aware of what's causing that and compensating for it.
This is the only Tarkov aim video worth watching on RUclips. I've got 2800 hours but this was great reinforcement into what I should be considering during a fight.
Getting used to the gunplay systems in this game given how different it is to other games has easily been the hardest, so a guide like this is greatly appreciated
I appreciate you passing on the experience. It is always great when veterans like you share the knowledge. I am glad that my friend suggested watching you, and naming you the "out of this world thing" due to how good your plays are.
Absolute banger of a video, so much useful info and some shit I didn't even know was a thing, like character pivoting. To this day I haven't found a player more methodical in their gameplay than you Desmond, keep em coming dude!
Leaning is something I realized I had no idea how to use correctly, I’ve been trying to pay attention to when I lean and I think you explaining the breath holding is super useful, same with the jump shot stuff, I need to practice this movement stuff and honestly I need to find a better sensitivity to do all this but knowing that these things are possible will help me improve a lot faster
This is probably the absolute best "git gud" at shooting video I have seen! Nobody else has ever mentioned the shooting range or talked much about the mechanics of the game. Most has been about rotating and gameplay methods rather than actual mechanics to practice. Also, the shooting range was mentioned to me by buddies when I first began playing, but will admit that I have failed to use it. You have done an extremely good job at relaying just how important a high level shooting range is and putting time in may not be the most fun, but can be extremely helpful. I look forward to your future videos!
I will most definitely give this a watch once I have the time to do so, I am a pretty decent FPS player mechanically but I struggle immensely in this game, thank you for creating videos like these
This video is literally so helpful. You cover just about everything I feel people would have questions about. As always, banger video Des, keep it up homie 💯
This was so helpful it was unreal I have 3k hours and this made a huge impact on my gameplay the little adjustments I made me a better player thank you for breaking it down and talking through it good
I have 2000+ hours in this game and I found this video incredibly helpful. Your shooting skills are next level and the video is very informative. Thank you for the hard work!
Thanks man I have 600 hours in Tarkov and didnt even know that crouching makes you more accurate, thats crazy. Everybody should watch a video like this it's so important to understand the mechanics of the game
Ayo I've been loving your in depth guides. Covers stuff that many of us know but don't think about/reflect on when we die and just assume "ugh he's just a better player I guess", but if you watch the replay you will see you made a dumb mistake. Also, when you explain the nature of the mechanics that you're talking about it helps solidify why certain habits are good and how to use them most effectively. Between your movement and aiming in depth guides, I'd like to hear some suggestions on how to better implement these into gameplay. Too bad arena isn't out yet cause that would be so dope to use and try to change some bad habits and try some more advanced movement/aim techniques. Getting pretty experienced at the game (~1000 hours) but still got that gear fear lmao
first time seeing one of your videos, but you have to be one of the best players ive seen at tracking, even just trying to track the moving targets in the shooting range can seem super simple but a lot of people cant have smooth tracking like that.
So, you're telling me that I actually have to practice my recoil control, movement, key binds, and generally become more skillful at the game? That's not very instant, I've been had! For real though, awesome tips! I can't wait to try some of these out.
There's a lot of good info here for improving in shooters in general as well as tarkov! Talking about the nuance of the sway and recoil in tarkov specifically was really helpful. Could never figure out why I have so many consistency issues in tarky specifically. Thanks broski.
Bro, thanks for this video! I always sucked at gun fights in Tarkov and it became a glaring problem when I tried Arena. I implemented your tips and it’s changed my fights for the better. I’m actually hitting headshots consistently now. (Also your tip about leaning in the correct spot is like god tier advice. I used to think leaning was pointless until you pointed out how people are doing it wrong) Again, thank you. This feels like a whole new game for me now.
Well, now I know exactly what I need to practice on, and actually have a solid plan for improving those skills quickly. As well as a couple things I need to adjust. This is top-shelf, my dude.
I'm approaching 2k hours, and I can see my faults. I know a lot of note knowledge and do most of them habitually. This video compounds those good habits and def helps me root out the bad ones. Especially since I know I'm a decent player but I lack the real game experience. Love this, it's going to help me so much once I train to implement them.
Don’t forget about practice mode too. I’ve found it super helpful especially when I’m trying to learn a new gun to just load into Factory on practice mode and kill scavs. Really useful early wipe if you don’t have the shooting range built yet as well.
This was a great video. A point on turning speed penalties for different armor/helmets: different gear sets will change your sensitivity, so when you first get into the raid, do just 2 or 3 aim drills at a few objects in the world. Helps reduce those first engagement throws. Btw Desmond, your tracking is actually insane 😅
If i swap to some vastly different turn speed kit i will sometimes hop in range, usually do it every time i swap guns just to make sure i have recoil down on anything i use, like if i go from using an mp7 to an hk or something
Really nice video dude. One thing that would make it even clearer is having an input tracker on screen for this. Makes understanding the jump shots a little easier to visualise for example
Thanx dude...ive only got 500 hours in game but felt that was long enough that I shouldn't suck at aiming...these concepts are things I never considered. I appreciate it my guy!
Hands down the best guide for tarkov ive ever seen (besides the wiki for quests lmao). But seriously I got 2k hours and in eft and did not know how to counteract some things you explained. Would love to have more vids of this type. ❤
You went from playing tarkov to apex when you started sprint jumping and jumping again hahahaha that’s cool I never saw this before. Awesome content bro thank you
Hey Desmond! One thing I'd love from you in a future video is going over the lean mechanic behind cover. But more in depth. There's a particular way to do it that I just can never grasp. I see you do it, I see nogeneral, glorious doing it. It's very specific. You covered it here, but maybe show it against scavs offline or even just around different pieces of cover. Another thing would be flanking, noise fear, meaning that you're afraid to flank because they're just gonna hear you and they're gonna gun you down and wait for you to break cover. I know you always complain people don't move, and they don't. I think this is why. If we can train people how to play maybe they won't be so afraid. I think I've told you before that I truly believe the way you play is how the games mechanics are supposed to be used. Maybe touch on gear fear stuff, but I'd mainly like to get better at peeking corners because I mess it up all the time and just spill out into the hallways.
I definently have noise fear. I'm always wondering who can hear me and how far away gunshots are, most being insanely closer than I thought especially on maps like shoreline. The other day I ran into the dude by car extract on woods and we did circles around each other before our final showdown. It felt really good to move and reposition but I didn't always hear him move and was often afraid I was being super loud. I did do the chad move and dropped my backpack somewhere in the trees which helps alot but it got lost in the weeds. Anyways after some cat and mouse I tagged him good and found he had bp ammo the whole time and I beat him with some ps ammo. Also with gear fear I just sell it to fence if I have thoughts of saving it for some big task instead of dealing with some loot anxiety.
@mcbacon5786 I'm kind of learning that people don't hear you as often as you'd think. But I'm very much overly conscious of how much noise I make because I hear almost everything. So everyone else must too. Apparently it's not the case most of the time(imo).
great video! Just my opinion, but strafe mirroring is a double edged sword. It makes it easier for you to hit, but also make you easier to get hit. i recommend doing opposite strafing, and getting good at hitting people that way, as it handicaps both players, and if you can get good at the handicap, you will win more fights... i also try to not use movement to help aim, cause it can cause some bad habits, of you needing to move to aim. Again thats just my personal opinion, may help some, may hurt some... so just like he said, do what makes you succeed more. Just figured id give my 2 cents, incase anyone else reads it and has a similar playstyle to me But again, great video, love to see people helping others get better
One of the best shooting-recoil-movement guides out there, well done sir! Clear and simple explanations! This is my first wipe and I have seen an immediate improvement in my shooting. Thank you!
Great vid. I agree that when your staffing left to right it's the same speed overall for you legs but if your leaning from left to right while walking from left to right it reduces the amount of time your head is away from cover. Only slightly but it all adds up.
game has pretty criminal input delay sometimes and if you press keys to fast they wont work at all like sprinting, you character needs to reach a small momentum before a sprint can register so you cant press keys at same time, can kinda get you mixed up
@@DesmondPilakSprint always messes me up. But usually going from a sprint to ADS+steady aim. My steady aim is the same as sprint so I always start sprinting again because I usually need to re adjust with WASD because my gun is running into the wall or I'm not in a good position, but I'm trying to steady my aim, but now I'm sprint out of cover and getting head, jaws'd by a scav. 😢 There is also a small fraction of time where the game will register shift as sprint and take me out of ads by I'm not moving.
Thank you for this video Desmond. I'll definitely try and get my fire range up and running so I can practice. My aiming is generally pretty on point but like you said Tarkov has so many different mechanics to practice.

You can also bind ads on press and hold breath on release so when you you already holding breath, at rare occasion it may not work so it better to have RMB as secondary bind
And I thought the streamers all had special high lvl equipment keeping their gun firing in a straight line. Well made video, very informative, cheers. Beginning players, like me, are overrun by the many buttons, the default setting doesn't feel right so it's actually a search for the best setup. Afterwards these tips & tricks will come in handy for sure. Also, Tarkov is one of the few games altering your stance if you stand too close to an object, for example, firing around a corner makes you lower your weapon if you come too close to the wall/door, takes a lot of experience just to predict how far to stay off...
Great vid! You did awesome explaining some of the more complicated points of shooting that I struggle to put into words for my friends. Will for sure use this as a reference in the future. Thanks bro!
You are one of the best players I have seen. You should consider putting out more content, I think your subscriber base views will skyrocket. Live the dream my man!
So much good information here im going to have to watch through a few times. Tarkov is the first computer fps ive really gotten into and boy my aim was trash. Its a litte better now but i still need major improvement. So this vid comes at perfect time.
I appreciate the tips. Currently, I've been making use of the offline mode map since the firing range is unavailable to me at the moment. I've been refining the skills you demonstrated in the video by practicing in the horde mode, and I've noticed significant improvements as a result.
I'm speechless. Great video of mechanics and great examples how they works and combines! Big thanks! Still exicetd to try it in actual raid and mos def will practice in shooting range. Now i know where to get most useful Tarkov tips! Thx again!
Widely-known as one of the best players in EFT. Not all new information, but not often spoken about! Stuff to learn here, even as a veteran of the game. Great video, happy to see different stuff.
An idea for another fresh topic video is perhaps mindset or mental for EFT players. I'm a good enough player to detect sus shit, and a bad enough player to think everyone cheats who kills me. Not another "Cheater is a problem" video, but I wonder about the mental side of EFT players for someone like you, Smitty, Landmark, and other good players who are in the public eye but don't really ever get to the meat of why it feels so grimey (to have to suspect) when you die to 5.45 T ammo in the thorax only from incredible angles. Perhaps how you deal with some of the unfairness, even from a legit situation. I know a lot of this sounds like being a jaded-auto reporter, but if anything has killed Tarkov for me it's that I've learned map patterns and get salty when shit gets unpredictable or unfair in general. I don't see many videos talking about the mental of this game, and many people might benefit? TLDR - Anti-Salt, Anti-Toxic video I guess. Holy shit none of this came out well.@@DesmondPilak

great video!
Just figured id give my 2 cents, incase anyone else reads it and has a similar playstyle to me
But again, great video, love to see people helping others get better
That was huge man thank you. It's nice to just have something to work on thanks again
One of the best shooting-recoil-movement guides out there, well done sir! Clear and simple explanations! This is my first wipe and I have seen an immediate improvement in my shooting. Thank you!
This was extremely helpful, for me as a returning player who needed a refresher. Appreciate it man, you rock!
Great vid. I agree that when your staffing left to right it's the same speed overall for you legs but if your leaning from left to right while walking from left to right it reduces the amount of time your head is away from cover. Only slightly but it all adds up.
This is probably the best video every tarkov player wanting to improve should be watching.
The timing is what gets me. I feel like half the time my inputs don't register on my key press. More practice needed
game has pretty criminal input delay sometimes and if you press keys to fast they wont work at all like sprinting, you character needs to reach a small momentum before a sprint can register so you cant press keys at same time, can kinda get you mixed up
@@DesmondPilakSprint always messes me up.
Yo, first video I've seen of yours and I've needed this for soooo many wipes.. ty! This is g
I swear i have the mandella effect going on rn ive been watching for so long and just now realised you only have 16k subscribers. Bro should be top 5 no cizzy no cap fr on god.
It's really awesome! You guide is absolutely unique, that's a lot of info I didn't know about before. You play style is amazing and your guids are solid, please keep going!
Thanks for this video and how to better use the range! A lot of good information that I didn't have before and need to try out now.
Fantastic tutorial! Gigabeef dropped your name today in his stream, so hopefully that gets you more attention!
huge
You can also bind ads on press and hold breath on release so when you you already holding breath, at rare occasion it may not work so it better to have RMB as secondary bind
Was waiting for a video like this from you, super insightful.
Dude, this is an insanely resourceful video. Props!
Super helpful. Def gonna go into the firing range and try a bunch of this stuff thanks
Every word Jesse has said about you is true. S tier teacher and player.
Damn I am glad this popped in recommended. Very informative. Thank you.
your aim is fuckin insane lmao you also manage to explain things very precisely but in a way anyone can understand, pretty pog
Great vid mate. Your right that not alot of people know these things.
Really appreciate the video I haven't enjoyed tarkov's Inertia update and never knew these high level tips
I don't comment much on YT bud, but this video is so well done. Your narration and explanations are very concise. Very well done bud.
Great video. Love to see the youtube popping off.
huge work here, thanks you and greetings from Chile
Second wipe so far, and Im glad I have learned stuff. Thank you for passing off knowledge, Desmond
Very detailed analysis of all the reasons I’m terrible at EFT.
Dezzy my Dude with the Clutch tips!
Great content. I’d really appreciate a video over no-scoping. How you master it, mental cues etc.
So much good information here im going to have to watch through a few times. Tarkov is the first computer fps ive really gotten into and boy my aim was trash. Its a litte better now but i still need major improvement. So this vid comes at perfect time.
Thanks for taking the time!
I appreciate the tips. Currently, I've been making use of the offline mode map since the firing range is unavailable to me at the moment. I've been refining the skills you demonstrated in the video by practicing in the horde mode, and I've noticed significant improvements as a result.
This is my first wipe, great info, thanks!
I'm speechless. Great video of mechanics and great examples how they works and combines! Big thanks! Still exicetd to try it in actual raid and mos def will practice in shooting range. Now i know where to get most useful Tarkov tips! Thx again!
Loved the vid man. You make the game look easy so it's nice to see the pointers *pun intended*
Thank You! Have fun out in Tarkov!
Dudes a beast learn so much from this video then I have playing and watching for a year 🤟🏽much love brother
Widely-known as one of the best players in EFT. Not all new information, but not often spoken about! Stuff to learn here, even as a veteran of the game. Great video, happy to see different stuff.
Great advice 23~ to 26!
yeah not really worth mentioning the same old right hand and sprint free look
Good stuff, you and chucklesTV are very good at presenting a practical guide, and make it feel so simple, I enjoyed it very much. Thank you
chuckles has a head that looks like a thumb and banned me from twitch because i said GG after i killed him on labs
@@ghost7403sounds like he didnt chuckle?
Awesome vid! your voice is hella calming too
